Scammed by barman: I went to the bar here, and later got a notification from my credit card company that a 114% tip had been added to my bill. Sure enough the barman had added a massive tip to my bill after I'd left. Called the hotel about it three times, got nowhere, after a week, they eventually agreed to refund the entire bill - but never did. Be very careful going here. I now have to follow up with my credit card company, BBB, etc., and pursue them for fraud. read more

I love Obscenity. There, I've said it. Great bar. Cool vibe. Great play list. And a great bartender: Megan. Who is not obscene but makes obscenely amazing mix drinks. She's a pyromaniac with her butane torch burning herbs and spices and turning the glass over the embers while she mixes the drinks. We had three variations on an Old Fashion. Wow! I stayed at the hotel that this bar is located in. I noticed they had a TV so we were hoping to catch one of the world series games here. They were supposed to be ope at 4:30p on Saturday (game started at 5) but the bartender was running late (according to the hotel concierge) so we ended up going to a restaurant/bar around the corner. We left that place halfway through the game hoping to catch the rest of the game here. They were finally open when we got back but when I asked about putting the world series on, the bartender refused. Her exact words were "I don't want to watch that" - presumably because she is a giants fan and the dodgers were in the world series. She had some random college football game on instead. Wonder how the owners of this establishment feel about their bartender actively preventing the bar from gaining business due to her being childish and being very late. read more

Known as the BEST 10 Bars in Union Square, Obscenity has been getting some raving reviews on their Yelp Page and I can definitely see why. The ambiance is SEXY! From the moment I walked in on a Friday night, I was greeted by the lovely desk staff. With a huge smile and a warm welcome, my friend and I walked in and noticed the sexy vibe of the lounge. Catered to anyone this lounge is perfect for any occasion: date night, solo and just want to chill at the bar, large groups, and friend gathering--you name it--the can make it happen. We noticed many people would have rather lined up in the long line to enter Pacific Haven Cocktails then to go into Obscenity. Well, my homegirl and I are relieved that we went into here because we walked out feeling really good! From the moment we sat down, we were greeted by our lovely server, Fabian. Oh, what a great experience we had with him. He provided us several popular items on the food menu and even pointed out the lovely cocktail drinks. We both opted for the impossible sliders and the truffle fries and for drinks we ordered the "Naked Brunch". Their cocktail menu offers a Signature Offerings, which are original, uncensored and obscenely good--also, the Classics--just like the menu says, the original are good, but the classics are better! Halfway through our meal, another one of the wonderful staffs came up to talk to us. Megan was such a DOLL! She informed us that the bar has been opened since February but did a big opening in February. Megan went on to say that the Hotel is only about 90+ rooms and really caters to the San Francisco residents and the hotel guest. No lie, my ears perked up when she stated that. So, I went on to ask how they catered to City Workers--you know a sista' had to see what they offered City workers--hey, HEY! I was super surprised when Megan stated that the lounge offered City workers up to 25% off--WTF! I'm SUPER SOLD! Sign me up, baby! Like seriously, that's a phenomenal ol' deal! That's like a buy one get one free on a drink, since the drinks are technically $14 and the discount was $14. Just to top it off, thinking the night couldn't get any better. We received our bill and it was less than what we expected! Because of that we used the rest of the money and threw down for a good ass tip; BOOM! Obscenity offers a lovely vibe and is open every night in the early evening till about 2AM. Not only are the drinks tasteless, but the customer service was phuckin amazing! For a hotel lobby bar, this place is great. It's cute, has a very small food menu (popcorn, nuts, and a couple sushi rolls), and decorated nicely with a chic vibe. However, it's not much beyond a hotel lobby bar. While the staff is super nice, I didn't feel the service was more than you'd get at a chain restaurant bar. I also wasn't sure what vibe they wanted to go with- there was a football game on the tv playing loudly and some other random music on the speakers in the background. It would have been nice to remove the sports and to lower the lights and add more lounge-chill type music (it is a lounge bar after all!). read more

Decided to go here cause it was the first thing that came up as a "gay bar". I mean I guess everything is gay in San Fran, but it wasn't a gay bar. We liked the decor and how it was very chill. The check being brought in a book is a great touch! The drink was disgusting but for about $16 I still had to drink it and not let it go to waste. DO NOT GET A MAD HATTER! This place is excellent! As an book nerd, I love the beat generation literary theme of the bar. The place feels warm and has a hip, relaxed vibe. I tried a couple of cocktails by Ms. Nora, and my favorite was the one that came in flaming--Mexico City Blues! Megan highlighted some items on their new food menu which I happily ordered. The empanadas were clutch and the meatballs were perfect! I also tried the ahi tuna tartare(with Tajin?! Yes please!) and my husband joined me after his meeting for some wine and the espresso ice cream. The staff is so friendly and Nora and Megan (who helped create the cocktail and wine list too!) ran the place with ease and a smile, even as it got much busier. This bar is a hidden gem and so is the bartender Jesse! I came across this bar after seeing a sign outside and saw this beautiful, warm, welcoming lounge. The bartender greeted me and explained the menu, telling me he creates all their signature drinks. I had a black Manhattan which was unique and hit the spot. Had another drink and had him make me something creamy. I don't know what was in this concoction, but it was delicious. It's a good sign when you can give the barman a challange and they don't freeze up and deliver. As much as I'd like to keep this place a secret, this is a must visit if you're in Union Square. Website said they closed at 9, so we specifically left a different bar to Uber there and make it in time. We got there at 8 and it was closed. Not really closed, as we still walked in and sat down at the bar. But when no bartender showed up in 15 minutes, we asked the hotel's front desk and she said "no one came so she closed early and went home." Who does that? Especially after a pandemic when bars suffered loss of business? The bar looked nice but is much smaller than you might think. If you're going to close before closing time, at least update the website to say that it's possible. read more

Lying in bed last night wracking my brain trying to figure out how my bar tab was $34 for two drinks, one of which was a $14 glass of wine. Did I seriously imbibe a $20 Old Fashioned and not notice until I got home? Must've been a good drink. It was; but not that good. A group of friends and I tried this place because we used to drink there when it was the library bar, which was cozy and quiet and had bar snacks and decent drinks. Obscenity has no food, not even a bag of chips, and while the bartender was terrific she was completely under water. It made no sense that some guy from the back came in to have a serious five-minute-long conversation with her about something or other while she was in the midst of making two elaborate cocktails and still hadn't poured my wine. I should've asked him to. Oh, and the seizure-inducing virtual fireplace in the back! Oof. Won't be back. read more
