Although not the most traditional of restaurants, this is my friends' and my favorite place to do dim sum. They have all of the classics (congee, tripe, chicken feet, shumai, etc.), they do sometimes mix it up by throwing in some of their own creations. At least I think they are since I've never seen them elsewhere in my years of dim-sum-eating. The decor is much better than at most dim sum places, and the service is decent. The only critique I have is that carts don't seem to actually go around and around as much here. On our most recent visit, we were bombarded by several carts and servers with platters when we first sat down, but had to practically flag the carts down after that. Not a problem, I'm just used to a more steady pacing. I most definitely want to come try their normal fare, but haven't quite made it in yet. read more

My husband and I dined at the Pacific Kitchen for the first time this evening. We had a good meal overall. The service was attentive and friendly. Our beverages were refilled often. Our server answered all our questions. The restaurant was pretty outside and inside. It was a spacious restaurant with booths and tables. There was a bar and outdoor dining as well. The bathroom was clean and nice looking too. According to one of the servers, the chef has family origins in China and Vietnam. The menu had an extensive selection of food choices from different Asian countries. Each item had a flag next to it to signify the food's origin. I really like the different number of options on the menu. We really wanted to try this restaurant because it had Malaysian food. Both my husband and I love Malaysian food. We used to eat at authentic Malaysian restaurants in NYC when we used to live there. I also cook authentic Malaysian food. For our appetizers, we tried the Malaysian curry wings, Cantonese wonton soup, and the shrimp dumplings. We thought the Malaysian curry wings were delicious and the shrimp dumplings were good. The Cantonese wonton soup was much better than wonton soup from typical Chinese takeout places. For our main entrees, we ordered the Malaysian curry beef (instead of chicken) and the shrimp Shanghai noodles. Both entrees were beautifully presented, large portions. The Malaysian curry beef was great. It was not as delicious as Malaysian curry dishes from our favorote NYC Malaysian restaurant. But it did satisfy our desire for Malaysian curry. The shrimp Shanghai noodles would benefit from a little more soy sauce. It was a little on the bland side. I solved the problem by asking for the sambal chili sauce. We do hope to return to this restaurant again. We cannot wait to order other items from its extensive menu. Overall, we recommend this restaurant especially if you have never had Malaysian food. Please note that the closest place for authentic Malaysian food from our home in Louisville is Atlanta or Chicago. It's tucked away behind the 53rd bank across from Kroger on Montgomery. Theres a bar area in front, spacious seating area in the back and decor is modern and pretty. I have been here a couple time now, the food is really good - not authentic but they do a good job on Asian fusion. The menu is pretty extensive and cover pretty much every county in Asia lol. The only complaint I have is the service is pretty slow; both times I was there the place only had a handful of seated tables and we waited a long time. Yuca fried - sooo good definitely recommend. It has nice spiciness to balance out the fried-ness :) Five spices pork tenderloin- pretty good, it's nice and crispy outside and tender on the inside. I do wish it comes with some sauce to help balance it out. Roasted duck with steamed buns - I'm a Peking duck fan so this one gets a meh. read more

My boyfriend and I have been talking about coming here for quite some time and decided to try it on New Year's Eve. We love Asian fusion food and I read all the good reviews on here so we were pretty sure we would love it. The ambience is very nice and the staff are quick to check on you and always keep the water glasses full. We ordered the 5 spice calamari appetizer and it was very good, not too spicy. My boyfriend ordered a duck entree (I can't remember the exact name) and it was not at all what he expected. The portion (of duck itself) was also very small. He was a little disappointed although he said the sauce was very good. I ordered the Hong Kong Wonton Noodle Soup. It was a big bowl and came out piping hot. It was good but not spectacular. I honestly don't review often but this place was bad enough for me to take the time to do it. I ordered the faux spare ribs which tasted like stale bread drenched in clumpy curry. The vegetables were soaked in some kind of oil and severely overcooked to the point that they literally melted in your mouth. I ended up throwing it away after a couple of bites. Another thing is that this place is severely overpriced for the quality of food. I've honestly eaten mall food better than this restaurant. I recommend that you find another place to eat. I always get concerned when I see an Asian restaurant that has too many cuisines. Normally, it's a sign that it has an identity crisis and you can't be great unless you have 10+ Asian grandmas working in the kitchen. The Pacific Kitchen surprisingly wasn't horrible, but I would say that the food has been adjusted to American tastes. So it's very accessible to try different Asian cuisines. They always recommend the Bip Bip Bop which is a solid choice, but the Shrimp HarGow was the best item I've had because of the sauce. I also would say their peaking duck had good flavor, but the skin wasn't crispy like I expect. Vietnamese eggrolls are also amazing. Aside from the food, the service is where this place suffers. Food took over an hour to come out, so the kitchen again I think suffers from such a massive menu to cook and the server rarely checked on us given the delay of the food. My advice is I think the menu should be streamlined and focus on delivering amazing quality over quantity. I like the fact that the spring rolls were crispy but not to the point that it starts chipping out in layers when you try to cut it with knife. We loved it! This place looked so familiar. It turns out it used to be the same location of Pacific Moon from over 10 years ago. I was intrigued by the very positive Yelp reviews thus my wife and I had to check The Pacific Kitchen out. We got there after 8 pm and got seated right away. The place is really spacious with a lot of seating choices. They had two big groups and a few couples dining otherwise they weren't that busy. Our server came promptly, was very friendly and got our beverage choices from their decent wine list. We noticed that we would needed extra time to peruse the menu which had tremendous choices of Pan-Asian dishes. You almost want to try everything but you know you can't. We were starving so we ordered Vietnamese spring rolls while we continued to make our choices. The Vietnamese spring rolls were awesome. They were fried but you also get to wrap them further with lettuce so you end up with a spring roll in a lettuce wrap. It was delicious and a great start for dinner. We decided on another appetizer - the Skewer Sampler which allows one to pick three skewers. We had the fish balls, pork belly satay and beef skewers. They were also really good and delicious. We had the Beef Shabu Shabu and the Goat Curry Stew for dinner which was quite an experience. We ate our entrees family style. The Shabu Shabu, served boiling on a portable stove, is a kind of soup which you actually get to cook yourself with thinly sliced beef and a variety of vegetables and mushrooms, and get to flavor to your choice. It was piping, steaming hot and so water-salivating good. Asians find this as a comfort-food experience. The Goat Curry stew was also very good but could be a little to spicy for others. We ended with awesome desserts. My wife ordered the Mango custard and I ordered the Green Tea "Gelato." They were both gelatin-like desserts which we found both to be excellent desserts that were delicious and yet not too sweet. We were given a surprise bonus dessert of Coconut "Gelato" because my wife had expressed her "fear of disappointment" if she ordered the Coconut Gelato. She has a bias or preference for "baby" coconuts for desserts and dislikes the type of "mature" coconut used in American/Western cuisine. Well we were not disappointment. If anything the Coconut Gelato, also a gelatin-like dessert, was the best of the three. We had a very positive experience dining at The Pacific Kitchen. They are an Asian Fusion restaurant and yet are able to preserve the essence of the Asian dish they serve. I'm sure their artistic presentation of foods adds a positive visual stimulus which makes the dining experience even more pleasurable. I remember eating here when I was a little kid, and my family was really sad when it closed down since it was our favorite dim sum place. We were ecstatic when we found out it re-opened. We made it a priority to set time aside to try it out, especially since my parents are friends with the owners and wanted to support them (I will try to be as unbiased as possible despite this!) When we arrived, it was very busy, but we were just lucky enough to get a table without waiting. However, it took a while for a server to greet us and get our drink orders. After we did get our drink orders in, we did not receive our drinks until halfway through our meal, after reminding the server twice. In the end, we only received 3 glasses of water for our party of 4. Those tending the push carts, however, did a great job at making sure to get us our food and making several rounds back to us. The food was delicious. Pacific Kitchen, in my opinion, surpasses all other dim sum places in Cincinnati in regards to taste. My new favorite which I have never tried at any other restaurant before is the scallop dimpling! Whenever I go out for dim sum, I order turnip cake because it is my absolute favorite, and I am so happy Pacific Kitchen did a great job with this dish! I do have one concern. Most of my food was warm, but I can remember receiving two dishes that were cold. They were in one of the see-through carts kept warm with little tea lights, so maybe that's why. Our check came out to be $100, excluding tip (for 4 people). I personally think this is reasonable to pay for dim sum, although I have definitely been to places with cheaper prices! After paying our check, the manager dropped off 3 plates of desserts for us, free of charge, which I really appreciated! Overall, I think the customer service was subpar, but the quality of the food makes up for it. Love their food but service most of the time is poor even though they have a full staff the times we've been here. We went there with our kids (5 and 1) most recently and it was a slow day for them so the staff seemed to be in a hurry to serve minimally so they can get back to socializing with eachother. Each time the servers brought us our food, they'd put the hot plate in the corner of our table, closest to our 1 year old who was sitting in a high chair who'd almost burn his hand everytime. This was happening from the very beginning when the table was empty and then when the table was starting to get full, we'd clear the middle of the table for them away from the baby, to make room for the hot plates to be placed away from the baby but the waitress would still put it right next to the baby. The waitress also barely stopped by to take the empty plates/dim sum trays away unless we asked, even when she was there to drop off a new plate of food, she'd leave without clearing the table unless we asked. It was really disappointing and ruined our experience there. The food was gorgeous. The taste was not subtle, yet not overwhelming. I had the Hong Kong wonton noodle soup....my only suggestion is the noodles are served crispy ON TOP of the soup versus IN the soup to allow for a more textural experience. My husband had the Cantonese chow mien...I've never tasted such a flavorful, yet subtle chow mien (it's usually very bland). The Vietnamese rolls as an appetizer were amazing! This place has been just ok so far. Not much to write home about yet. I'll give it another shot eventually, but I've been here twice and both times I paid a lot for average to before average food. I don't even remember what I got the first time, but I remember not liking it so much because everything was overly sweet. I got the pork belly ramen because everyone on here said how great it was. Now I got it to go, so that probably did make the dish suffer, but I'd put that on them more than anything else because they put it in a smaller bowl that was completely stuffed with food. I could barely add the broth because there was no room. Either put it in a larger bowl or have some level of restraint. More is not always better. Now as for the dish, I found it didn't have the flavor everyone here described. I tasted a ton of butter. It was also a bit sweeter than I'd like. I got maybe halfway into it and tried adding soy, but it wasn't very good. I'd only get it again if I was eating inside, but maybe a different Ramen. I saw so many reviews saying how large the portions were. I see that as a negative. Just give me quality. I don't need a bucket full of average. I tried the beef bulgogi and this was what I remember from my first visit. Overly sweet and little other flavor. I've been to Asia and very very little food is ever anywhere near the scale of this sweetness. I think when Asians come here they feel they need to up the sweetness for Americans because they think this is what we like. Maybe many others do, but this is why Asian food isn't very good in the Midwest. This is maybe the 4th dish I've tried at this restaurant and all were sweet. I also tried the Korean chicken wings. Being in Kentucky, there is a dearth of places, forget good places to find dim sums and Cantonese style food. We are originally from Lexington, Kentucky and it took us a year to find this amazing place, I can't believe it. We are huge fans of dim sums and looking at the amazing pictures posted in Yelp, it got us soo excited. We decided to go to this place on a random note and it was the best decision ever. We went again today and coincidentally it snows every time we come here! The first time we came it was almost 3pm and there was no crowd absolutely (also they close out their dim sum carts by 3pm, so if you have to go there, go early). This time we reached around 12pm and the place was packed! We had to wait just a few minutes to get seated but we could already see 3-4 parties of 4-5 waiting to be seated. We sat down and promptly got served with hot jasmine tea! The staff around this place is quite friendly and helpful and unlike most dim sum places, they speak and converse in very fluent English which is a huge bonus! Once seated, the carts keep coming and do not worry about anything you get to eat but do not really understand what it is - Everything is soo good that you will not regret it! My opinion is you go for the small dim sum plates first, that way you will not fill up quickly and still keep trying a lot of dishes. My guide to must haves are - 1. Sticky rice in Lotus Leaves (has pork and shrimp) 2. Spare Ribs in Black Bean Sauce 3. Steamed Pork Buns 4. Shrimp and Chive Dumplings (Fried and Steamed both) 5. Sharkfin Dumplings 6. Shrimp Dumplings 7. Pork Potstickers 8. Scallop Dumplings 9. Eggplant stuffed with Shrimp dim sum 10. Jalapeno stuffed Shrimp dim sum I know the list is long but it only has 4 pieces/plate and if you go in a group, all this will be over in seconds and you will have a lot of real estate still left to try or repeat other stuff. It's a shame I do not stay in Cincinnati, else I would live right outside this restaurant and feed here day and night. The first time I tried to visit The Pacific Kitchen, I got there and they were closed due to a water main break. Their menu was so appealing to me (seriously, check it out) that I ventured back on another date. It happened to be during dim sum service and during a special menu for Chinese New Year. They were crowded and it took a bit of time to get a table. You could tell they were short staffed, because all the staff members looked frazzled and things seemed a bit chaotic. There's a wall division in the restaurant and instead of spreading patrons out amongst the whole restaurant, they smushed everyone into one side of the restaurant. Ultimately, it was super crowded and super loud. I had to shout to the person I was dining with. The service was sparse and it took a bit for the food to come out. Overall, the actual dining experience was fairly poor--but I'll chalk it up to the short staff/dim sum/special menu trifecta. The food itself, was delightful! The singapore noodles were the best me or my dining partner ever had. The serving size was extremely generous and between the two of us even had some left over. It was the perfect level of spicy, where you're reaching for your water often, but not painfully so (they use Thai chilies!). The steamed BBQ pork buns were soft, flavorful, and generous with char siu. I'd like to come back and try more dim sum. The crab meat cannolis were really just crab rangoon filling in a spring roll wrapper and fried, but it was good! The only thing I wasn't impressed with was the cantonese spring rolls, which tasted like something I'd buy from the grocer. I'd warn you that the menu is overwhelming and warrants a look over before you get to the restaurant. When you walk in it feels really fancy but all the staff are really relaxed and authentic. The menu is so comprehensive I don't know where to start. It's so full of options from so many countries (marked with flags) there is no way you can leave dissatisfied. They are currently giving the menu an overhaul so it will be even better by the time you read this review! I went with my wife and son on my birthday for duck and dim sum and I was in foodie heaven. There was hardly anyone there and we had a booth near a window where we watched the snow fall. It was such a great atmosphere. They also have a selection of wonderful Japanese Whiskey by Suntory and Nikka. This was an added bonus given my fondness for Japanese whisky. I had this place bookmarked for quite a while and I'm glad I finally had a chance to go. Prior to my visit here I was driving all the way to Columbus for Dim Sum!!! We started off not completely loving this place, but our past few dining experiences have been amazing! The menu is huge, as are the portions, and the service is always good. I ordered the spring rolls and curry noodle soup, and would definitely order both again. All of the adults in the party were pleased with their meals. Since moving to the Cincy area a little over a year ago in most ways my wife (Korean born) and I have been less than blown away by most Asian restaurants with few exceptions. This place, however, manages to dabble in a wide variety Asian cuisines while doing them all (at least based on our family's three dishes) very well. But being the rice-lover that I am, what stood out to me most are the rice options: plain, vegetable fried rice, and my fave - coconut rice. It was a $2 upcharge but totally worth it! Review for lunch - I went here for lunch on a weekday with some friends. The good: The concept is nice - there is a wide variety of food options at a reasonable price (most of the entrees were around $10 and comes with a small salad) from various countries in Asia. There are a lot of options to choose from so you can experience cuisines from a lot of different countries. The multi-page menu ranges from dishes that are pretty common (fried rice, bibimbap, pad thai) to more unique dishes like laksa. The staff was friendly, too. They offer some vegetarian options too, which I hear taste pretty good. The reason for the three stars: the food is very average (pad thai, which normally does not have sauce, had a pool of it at the end). The other members of my party also agreed - food would receive three stars. The food is also is not very authentic. I ordered the Laksa, which is a Malaysian coconut curry soup with rice noodles. The veggie egg rolls and the chicken pot stickers were just OK, not bad , not great . Meal : Pine nut dick fried rice was MASSIVE. The portion is more than enough . The duck was so tender , juicy and flavorful . The entire dish was very flavorful . I stick with the rice it comes with . Although , you can choose what kind of rice you desire . My friend ordered the Chicken Bibimap. That too was a flavorful dish . We were looking for a new spot to try on a Sunday afternoon and this place DELIVERED. Give them a try . The menu is VAST. I have been here a couple times and have had a variety experiences. The one thing that seems sure is that the service is slow. The food is actually good, but if you come at the wrong time you can expect the wait to be exceptionally bad and the service to be stressed and unpleasant. Most recently I came with a group of 6 on a Saturday night. We expected we would need to wait at a popular time without a reservation, so the 30 to 40 minute wait the hostess told us seemed perfectly reasonable. We happily found a spot at the bar to enjoy drinks while we waited. The bar tender seemed a bit harried at first, understandable for her being the sole bar tender of a popular place. I was willing to accept our drinks coming slowly. But the service quickly turned more sour when we tried to order an appetizer. Her annoyance was clear. She absolutely didn't want to deal with us. I did feel bad for her bar, but I am also paying customer. I don't go out to be made to feel like crap. After more than 40 minutes of waiting passed, we asked the hostess for a status update on our table. She told us she made a mistake - it would probably be another 40 minutes. Again, I wanted to be understanding. Unpredictable things happen, but I wish they would have been forthright of the mistake and come to tell us the wait was going to be longer than expected. We ended up leaving after this. I can only give this place two stars because I know the food is good from previous experiences when they weren't so busy. But even those times the service was slow. If this place truly wants be successful, they are going to need to put a few more hands on deck. read more
