After receiving multiple "oh no" responses to my 5 star review from 8 months ago even as late as today, I realized that something is up and I needed to investigate. I quickly found out that one month after my visit, the owner of this establishment was captured on video in an apparent road rage incident yelling expletives at another person and repeatedly saying "your 1/2 N word brother" as an insult. He then looked directly into the camera and said "I am a racist" when pressed about using such a derogatory word. He held a press conference to apologize afterward but it was only because he was caught and this revelation was affecting his business. Stopped for dinner after a trying week - had to cancel our vacation the weeks before due to a family illness among other issues. Suffice it to say I wanted to have one great meal with hubs to close out our nay-cation. I haven't been to the Paddock for decades. This was a great place for an excellent seafood dinner. Best jumbo lump crab cakes - no filler here. The filet was butter soft - extremely delicious. The shrimp were large and juicy. And the scallops were great. Our waitress Connie was great. In fact all of the servers were - they took empty dishes / glasses when they were walking by. The price is what I'd expect for fresh seafood and delicious steaks. My filet / crab cake was a special that came with 2 sides for $58 - was worth every penny! I also had a bloody mart which was very good as well! My wife had set -up my 70th birthday party here . We had a party of 12 . Everybody enjoyed their food . My son doesn't like seafood so he had a rib-eye that was delicious and cooked perfectly ! Havent been to paddock in a few years, having moved away. So glad we visited. Had salmon shrimp and scallops across two entrees between my wife and I. Everything perfectly seasoned and sauced. Home made unsweetened iced tea is GREAT, and the side salad with the house made dressings is crisp fresh and fabtastic! Our server was amazing, food came out hot and timed to our consumption perfectly. The sunlight beaming in through the cool skylight and side windows with fresh flowers in vases on the tables completed the perfection. Oh and the cream of crab soup was perfect delicious and full of meat! we will return soon for the crabcake special! read more

First off you will pay here but the food is well worth the price. So it's not a every week or every other week stop but when you want excellent seafood or a special night out, you won't be disappointed. Crab cakes are amazing. This restaurant is expensive but the food is outstanding! I loved the crab cakes but they could have used more Old Bay seasoning (this is coming from a true Marylander). The reason I chose this restaurant is because they are open on Sundays while some other places are closed. The restaurant was quiet as I would expect for a Sunday afternoon. First, let me say we have loved the Paddock in past years. Our food has always been wonderful and never disappoints. HOWEVER, my curbside exoerience this week was my last time I will eat there. After leaving the gym and not wanting to go inside in gym clothes, sweaty... (you get it). I ordered online and paid (and tipped). I received a text message immediately thanking me from my order and telling me my pick up time. The text also gave me a link to click when I arrived. I parked in the designated spaces at my pick up time, clicked the link in the text to check in and received a thank you message for checking in. I waited 15 minutes and the food never came out. Eventually, I went inside (what I was trying to avoid) and saw my bag of food sitting on a chair by the checkout station. When I told them i placed an online irder abd checked in but my food never came out, I was told - "that's yours, you can just take it". When I asked why it wasn't brought out when I checked in (explaining i had been waiting almost 15 minutes after clicking the link and receiving a thank you message for checking in), the manager told me you need to call the number in the parking sign to check in. I explained the text message from them said otherwise, to which they replied "yeh, we don't know why it dies that. You need to call." Okay.... but how should I know that?? Instead my $50 meal sat for 15 minutes on a chair. No apology for the confusion. No offer to give me a warm meal. Nothing. Instead I was treated like it was MY fault. This place has incredible food! The crabmeat, in all their dishes, is the best quality! We had a table of 13 for a special occasion on 1-4-25. Everything was excellent, the food, service and homey atmosphere. Their lobster sandwiches, scallops in bacon, steaks, shrimp dishes were all excellent. Our waitress was so good too. COVID UPDATE: The Paddock has turned their front parking lot into socially distanced outdoor dining! It's wonderful. The tables are beautiful and widely spaced apart. The service is still at the impeccable levels as dining inside. Even the traffic noise from the road is not a big deal. It's just so nice to be able to go out again. All of the food comes packaged in to-go boxes which is a little weird for such an upscale place, but to minimize washing and breakage, it's totally understandable. The crab soup was great but the onion soup, although it tasted good, it was actually in a cup sized small crock and needed more cheese and less bread. For comparison, the First Post has a normal French Onion soup crock, more cheese and is $7 vs the $7.95 for this. We shared a fish sandwich but it wasn't as well done as we had in the past. It still is big and shareable. My wife thought it tasted more fishy this time. I did not but it wasn't crispy as I had in the past. It was also very busy but service was still good. So my girlfriends and I went to paddock for a couple drinks today. And appetizers. I asked for a Beefeaters gin and tonic in a rocks glass. I was served a 7.5 ounce glass. I know that because I have the same glasses. It was literally all gin with a splash of tonic. Awful. I I had 2 thinking the second would be better. Not!!! And I had a cup of soup. I took my 92 year old mom at the Paddock. It was horrible! I got stuff jumbo shrimp with sautéed Brussels sprouts & fries. They were ice cold. I sent back & they were cold again the shrimp was like rubber. My mom got crab quesadilla. You couldn't cut is with steak knife! My husband got steak with crab. The steak was good bit nothing else. We had to hunt down waitress for coke refI'll then wait because they ran out of coke or Pepsi. Then they were out of ice tea. Mr. X and I visited The Paddock last night on a Thursday since work took us again to York. We had seen the Paddock many times and always said we should stop in and give it a try. It has good points and not-so-good points, so let's take them one by one. We park behind the restaurant in their spacious parking lot. The doors for the entrance are actually on the back of the building, which makes it convenient to enter the building from the parking area. We were greeted right away and seated at an attractive table by the windows. Our waitress came by offering drinks from the bar. I got a Strawberry Daiquiri and Mr. X got a Margarita (each 7.00). They were both good, but neither one of us tasted any alcohol in them at all which was extremely disappointing, so we stopped at one drink each. Further, they were served in pint beer glasses instead of the appropriate glassware. My Daiquiri could have spent a little more time in the blender, I like a smoother consistency, so if you my readers prefer it the same way, I'd probably ask that it be kept in the blender for longer. The whipped cream is a nice touch. One thing that was odd was when we asked for some bread with our soups, we were told "we don't serve bread". I repeated the question but in a way that suggested that I'd be glad to pay for the bread, and I was again told that no such bread exists. Shortly after this, I noticed that the table right next to us were served large, buttered brioche bread slabs with their pasta entrees. The correct response would have been "Let me go ask and see what we have" and then come out with bread. How this was handled was not cool and made me feel weird about asking for something that should be served automatically without even needing to be asked for. We both started with a cup of Cream of Crab soup ($6.95). It was excellent, even if not hot enough for my taste. We both really enjoyed that, served with oyster crackers. Very good, though unfortunately we ridiculously couldn't get some bread we really wanted to go with it. I ordered the special Haddock stuffed with a crab cake ($32.95). I thought it was delicious and I could eat it every day of my life. Mr. X and I are from Baltimore, so we know what a crab cake is, and these were fine. The lemon butter sauce over the entire entrée was perfect. I'd hope that becomes a permanent item on the menu. My sides that came with it were Brussels Sprouts and French Fries, which again were pleasing. I can't say I'm a huge fan of the ultra-shoestring fries they serve, but Mr. X seemed to enjoy them. They are basically like potato sticks and so of course they get cold quickly. I feel like if you have a restaurant in the higher-price category of the Paddock, you should be preparing your own fresh-cut fries in-house. There's no excuse for frozen french fries today unless you're a diner. Mr X. Got the New York Strip with crab cake ($46.95). He ordered it medium, but what came out was almost well. He said it was fine, but said it was advertised by our server as "hand-trimmed", and this was anything but. Several times he had to spit out gristle and other inedible portions. Overall, he said it was "OK", but it seems a shame to pay so much for a 12 oz. Prime steak that isn't cooked correctly and is just passable. Maybe this is just how Pennsylvania does it because the steaks at Hoss's down the road are the exact same. Again, it wasn't horrible, but a bit disappointing. He commented that he also did love his crab cake, however, so all was not lost! His sides were asparagus and a baked potato, which were good. Kudos though must go to the tall and extremely courteous young man (I didn't get his name) who made sure our glasses were refilled and who also removed finished plates quickly. Great job done by him! One unfortunate thing though is that the bathrooms are located right next to where people stand in line for the hostess stand. When the men's room door opens, passers by have a perfect view of guys peeing at the urinals. A bit awkward to me, but hey look all you want I'm not shy. Overall, The Paddock is just a little better than OK. Greek diners could pull this off at a much more acceptable price point. We paid $110 for two with one mixed drink each, excluding tip. I think the fine dining level prices might be a bit much for the quality, and fine dining this ain't. I do understand people need to make a living, and running a restaurant isn't cheap. I would probably return, but I'd have a talk with the management before ordering to take care of the issues I have addressed here. Get some bread and butter on the tables. And guys, I'd pee before leaving the house unless you enjoy exhibiting your private areas to strangers. tl:dr: A bit pricy for experience. It's OK, but not one of those "knock your socks off cant wait to return" restaurants. Beware of ordering steaks which may not be as prime, trimmed, or grilled as represented. $110 for two with one mixed drink each, excluding tip. read more

The Paddock (Redo) 3.5 Old habits die hard and returning restaurants you've frequented for decades is one of those habits. We've always had great service at The Paddock...since the 1960s when we began visiting this well-established bar-eatery. Same thing this last visit. I had to change our reservation multiple times since we were trying to organize a family dine-in and we live about 750 miles away (even had one relative show up at the very last second! Arrgggh). BUT, the Paddock was as accommodating as ever and made arrangements for us to sit at our scheduled time even though the place was packed. All the servers were genuinely congenial and chatted amicably with all of our guests. Food, on the other hand, got some mixed reviews this time...mostly good, but one glaring foul up. Kitchen & chef .... I'm at a loss for words. The traditional classic onion rings were fantastic - breaded beautifully, fried perfectly, a tasty delight. The Lump Crab Dip in a Pretzel Bowl - boom good! My Maryland-style Crab Soup was spot on and filled with strands of crab and plenty of veggies in a tasty tomato broth. My crab cake was deliciously seasoned with only a little filler for binding. My wife's Marcos Island Salmon with Citrus-Dill Reduction was also a big hit with her. Other entrees our group ordered were just fine. Here's the food issue we had: Two members of our party ordered French Onion Soup. It was delivered to the table in the traditional crock with a nicely browned cheese topping. But, alas! When both folks dug beneath the surface, the soup it was cold! We called a server over and she took it back to the kitchen. And when she brought it back...it was barely warm. (Probably microwaved...but with little body or fat, a microwave isn't going to heat it properly.) This is just unacceptable. You can fake the cheesy top, but the body of the soup HAS to be hot, and in these two cases, it wasn't. #Disappointed long-time customer. read more

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! Have never been treated so poorly at any restaurant, anywhere. We were walk-in and told they would have a table in 5-10 min. After 30-40 min of us waiting, we were told that they did not know when we could get a table, if at all, as they needed to honor reservations first. The hostesses suggested we leave. We understand honoring reservations, but you just don't tell customers you will get them a table, change your mind for some reason, and suggest they leave as there is no guarantee. I mean who does that? RUDE! Customer service means nothing to this establishment. We will not be going back!!!! read more

Their menu sounds appetizing, but the food we got last night was horrible. Mashed potatoes half tasting like paste with giant clumps of uncooked potatoes mixed in. Shrimp overcooked w/ no cocktail sauce. Our scallops were not seared at all. The dish was almost $40 My husband got a cheesesteak and fries. My husband and I heard great things about this restaurant so we made reservations for 7:30 tonight on Valentine's Day. We were unaware that these reservations were 30 minutes before they closed, and we were treated just like that. My salad was forgotten and I was asked if I wanted it to go. Two waitresses stood at the bar near us and complained that people were still ordering dinner, and one of them talked loudly, dropping swear words a few times. We paid quickly and left. My wife and I ate here last night celebrating our 43 rd anniversary. We always love the seafood here and last night was no different. But I didn't follow my golden rule of not getting beef at a seafood restaurant. I ordered the combo of a crab cake with prime rib. The crab cake was great as always but the prime rib was lousy. It was a reheated tough piece of meat that I ate a small amount of. I don't recommend ordering the beef to anybody. We had the crab bisque for an appetizer and it was to die for. We loved it. My wife got the Maine combo of lobster tail, crab cake and scallops and it was great. If I had gotten all seafood I would have given them 5 stars for sure.
