I was forced to hire another painter for $400 more dollars. Final issue, the crew, which changed four times, left my bathrooms destroyed with skim dust and overspray. The Pros: ~Job quality was well done and in a timely manner. ~Staff were pleasant and obliged with wearing booties in my house. ~Price was competitive with other estimates. The Cons: ~Communication was a little tough going trying to get the original estimate. The owner was contacted 3 times (Text/VM) before we heard back. ~They arrived 10 minutes past the 'window' promised. ~We were not given a receipt/proof of work at the end of the job. Note: Our job was postponed due to bad weather which affected their OTHER jobs. This wasn't their fault and they did let me know the day before they were due, but it was inconvenient because we'd changed our own schedules and I had to then rearrange other vendors. I hired the Paint Guru to paint selected stucco sections of my house that had been stained by the elements. The paint match was ok, but not great. The problem was that his crew tried to patch hairline cracks in the heavily textured stucco. Huge mistake due to the patches not matching the texture of the rest of the exterior walls. The patches stood out like racing stripes on the house. It looked like the house had been vandalized. It took David several return trips before the final product was acceptable. Not good. Dave (owner of Paint Guru) is nice, affable guy, but here's why I'm compelled to submit a one star review: 1. Despite investment in Sherman Williams Super Paint, poor prep work by Paint Guru's is resulting in massive areas of peeling on my house front (see pictures). I reached out to Dave to ask if a crew could come by to repair and repaint and he declined to answer my email. 2. Paint Guru failed to paint the top of my trim for the entire diameter of the house, resulting in soft wood and water seepage through the trim (see pictures). Again, I asked Dave to come by and he failed to answer my request. 3. Paint Guru missed areas requiring painting around the house, only realized after closer examination. 4. After two consults with Dave at Paint Guru, where I expressed my concern over possible dry rot, his contract quoted a wood repair cost and service that he does not provide. AFTER the house was painted, I called the wood repair crew that Dave recommended and was quoted $9K in wood that required repair, much of which Paint Guru painted over. The entire Pergola they painted was sunk cost because the wood is beyond paint/ repair. 5. Knowing that I intended to save the remaining matching paint, Paint Guru crew threw all old paint screens and rollers into the paint cans - making it very inconvenient to recover the remaining paint. read more

I recently took on a painting project at the condo building I live in. We had several HOA meetings and decided to have the exterior trim of the building painted. The existing paint was dull and old looking, so we wanted to spruce it up a bit. I decided to be the one to research painters and colors. After a week or two of working on this, I decided to ask about painters on a Yelp talk thread. Someone gave me the company called 1-800-Paint-Job and said to talk to David Aguirre. I emailed and then he called me back. We chatted over a few days and he sent out the bid for the job right away. He was very friendly, informative and prompt about everything throughout the process. He worked within our budget and was honest about what we really needed and what we could do without. He went by the building several times to make sure of what needed to be done. No one even had to be home. Over a week later, I got the rest of the tenants to approve the bid and color, but we hit a snag when people changed their minds about the color the night before I was to let David know we were ready. He understood and we worked it out. Once the color was picked, I called David and set up the schedule for the job. They started on Monday and were finished by Wednesday! The crew worked diligently and were very organized. They did not leave messes anywhere and no paint was spilled or sloppily applied. First of all, David matched me up with a color consultant who helped me come up with a palette that still wows people when they walk in my house. Initially all went well, they seemed a nice crew. This was a large painting job on a large and high end home. Because they didn't use masking tape in the window frames they splattered paint all over the glasses. When I told them about it they said no problem we will clean it. But they scrape it with a razor blade leaving permanent scratches all over the windows. Their insurance ended up not covering it and now it is in our hands. The painting job was ~$4000 and the repair of all the glasses severely damaged are $5000. Need to say more? Would never recommend them. I recently needed 2 stairwell painted so I went on the Better Business Bureau site hoping to find a good painter. When I called David it was explained that they had a minimum. I said we would be able to meet that, figuring I have plenty to paint why not take some of it off my hands. David did come, look around and once done said he would email me the estimate. This was a month and a half ago. I have since sent an email asking for said estimate and no response. A simple "I don't think this is gonna work" would have sufficed.
