The atmosphere of the restaurant is pleasant. The walls are filled with cartoon sketches of notable people. I would not recommend the seafood dishes, we had the calamari and lobster bisque, they were subpar. We sent back the calamari and the lobster bisque was barely warm. Raisin bread was phonmenal. Came here with high expectations-- for their steaks at least... But that doesn't mean I won't get me some appetizers! We started with the carpaccio of beef tenderloin & bacon wrapped scallops. The carpaccio wasn't anything special-- I wouldn't recommend it. The bacon wrapped scallops were way overcooked. For my steak, I got hte bone in ribeye, medium-rare, with the classic Oscar. My friends got it without the Classic Oscar. It was alright. Mine was cooked more on the medium side. I still expected it to be more tender than it was for a medium steak... It was a bit chewy. There wasn't much fat on my steak either. As for the flavor, it's nto the best I've had. It was okay, but I feel like if we're adding salt, or having to dip it in some type of sauce, that means it wasn't as tasteful as I'd like from a top notch steak house... For sides we go thte creamed spinach, mushrooms, hash browns, and asparagus. The spinach and mushrooms were my favorite. As an appetizer, we split the carrot cake. It was very good-- very moist. I came here on a Friday night. It was really packed, so maybe that's why everything wasn't prepared correctly. Waiter was really nice and friendly, but he left us sitting around a lot of times and was real slow. To his credit, he did apologize and explain the situation though. Maybe they should hire more waiters, lol. Digger Phelps & company were in town for the cuse/gtown game. They were probably the #1 priority. This restaurant is also surprisingly loud. It didn't seem like there were so many people in there, but you can barely hear people across the table. Was so excited to have their clams casino, a happy hour favorite for me back in NYC. But oh no, the bacon had curled, burnt on the top and not done on the bottom. I had to send it back. It came back not much better but at least edible. Then my entree came, the 9 oz filet, Oscar style. The good news, the crab was sweet and enough, but my filet was a little more than medium and luke warm as was the hollandaise sauce which I scrapped to the side. On the plus side, the manager and server tried to enhance my experience but as I had already sent back one dish, I passed on sending back another. BTW, the creamed spinach had a tad too much nutmeg but the wine "An Educated Guess" was very tasty. Disappointed! I continue to miss NYC. read more

The Palm has a nice and classy atmosphere. It says it's dressy, but you can go in casual. Wait staff was excellent as well. Their signature drinks weren't bad, but for the reputation of the Palm, I think I expected more. The food was good, but for the price, I should've gone to a better steakhouse. Maybe I'm just used to better steak in Texas. The classic potato's were also a bit bland. Their wedge salad was done well. I really enjoyed the dressing. Also, bread was delish. we ordered a 5 pound lobster for New Year's Eve, drove to DC to pick it up and did eat the tail last night! we tried eating the claw's tonight and they were extremely salty. I called and spoke to Solomon and told him that I wanted to let them know that we couldn't eat them because of the saltiness and he said "thank you I'll pass it on". I have been eating at The Palm at least twice per month for the past 16 months (when I moved from NYC to DC). The food is good, and the power lunch is very reasonably priced. The service, however, is subpar. The last two times I ate here, the waiter was just bad - not attentive, late in bringing the check, never asking if I wanted a refill. I am giving the restaurant the lowest rating possible because the service on my last visit made me walk out, even before I sat down and made an order. On March 6, 2020, I made lunch reservations for 2 (which I did every week for the previous 5 weeks). The hostess told me to wait as the table was prepared, even though I was at the restaurant at the time of the reservation. Two separate parties of 2 people showed up after me, and both were seated immediately. I am certain the second party did not have a reservation. They never went to the hostess, but rather shook hands with a gentleman who personally showed them to their table. I have eaten at The Palm at least 35 times in the past year. I'd say that makes me a regular. I'm not asking for preferential treatment, but if I see that someone else is receiving special treatment while I have to wait to get seated, I prefer to not dine at your restaurant. I've eaten at both NYC locations, the location in Atlantic City, and in DC. It is only the DC location that has bad service, but because of the latest debacle, I'm unlikely to visit the restaurant again. read more

I ordered exactly what I've always ordered. This time was a real disappointment. It has me feeling sad and let's down. The Fall of the Palm. A firm believer in the legacy of the great franchise, I think it's time to say goodbye. My doctrine is that a steakhouse is to serve a proper steak. Ordered a medium rare filet, it came out blue. So blue that the meat pulled apart on the knife like shredded lunch meat. Couldn't cut the meat without it bowing down to me like I was the queen of Yelp reviews. I had to follow the meat to the plate with my knife before it even started to cut through. I don't care that the service was fine, or even that the sides were pretty good. If I have to send a steak back at a steakhouse, and they think they can charge $56 for a 9oz filet, you're done. It was also completely dead on a Sunday night. 3 parties in the whole restaurant and they sat us right next to each other so it wouldn't feel like a dying brand. :( read more

Sad to see the lack of stars and reviews on here, it definitely should be higher on both ends. It's definitely a classic visit and best with company. The staff is attentive and the portions can definitely be shareable. If meat and potatoes is a staple in your diet this place will not disappoint. Definitely a lot of business attire but don't let it fool you because everyone seemed to use this as place to decompress and relax. Went in for our anniversary dinner and were treated like royalty. Wife had the Ribeye rare and came out exactly as asked, delicious, creamed spinach, best I've ever had, not so milky as some can be. I had the veal parmigana, delicious also. Let's just they comped us on extra booze and desert, very generous as we don't order cheap drinks. Key lime pie with blueberries was wonderful. It's ok.. you're definitely paying for the ambiance. Atmosphere: it looks gorgeous especially from the outside but the inside is not AS nice as what you see through the full length windows outside. The inside is darker with paintings of faces over the walls - more like a regular nice steakhouse. Most of the people here, when i went on a friday evening, were in suits or dress clothes. Definitely more for dates or work events than a family restaurant. Service: our server was really nice and funny and attentive. He even gladly put my steak on the grill for a little longer because I misjudged how i like my meat. I would give the service 4.9 stars with the 0.1 just because he got one of our orders wrong. But it's ok it was good anyways and not worth correcting. Food: the serving sizes are HUGE like i swear I have leftovers for 2 more meals. One meat dish could EASILY serve two. One salad could also easily serve two. The dessert slices are huge too. Share everything! The food was good but nothing to rave about. I think youre paying more for ambiance and portion sizes rather than out of this world flavor. Price: you should check the menu beforehand haha it's definitely not cheap. Is it worth it? We're in full-modified COVID mode and are not eating inside at restaurants. We decided to have our New Year's Eve dinner on Thursday, and so we place a phone order for take-out from The Palm. We had a rib-eye and a small filet; fried onions, salads, and a piece of their delicious key lime pie. We got to the restaurant early, so I called and said we would wait in the car and could they call us when our order was ready. They did. I paid inside, there were two bags. One, we were told, was for the hot food. One was for the cold. A very nice touch. We paid the bill and were back in the car within five minutes. We got home, set the table, unpacked both bags, and enjoyed a marvelous pre-New Year's dinner. The food was wonderful. The service was, if possible, even better. read more

Worst service I've had in a long time I went to The Palm to celebrate my boyfriend's 28th birthday. I indicated in my reservation that it was his birthday and the host mentioned it when we arrived. I would say we were the youngest in the room that wasn't a child by 10 years. Maybe that's why our service was so incredibly bad? Once our orders were taken we were ignored throughout our entire meal. The food itself was really good - I got the 12oz center-cut filet and my boyfriend got the NY strip. Meat was cooked perfectly and sides were great. The food is the only reason this isn't a 1 star review. Once our plates were cleared we were held hostage for 30+ minutes waiting for the server. Finally the older male server comes to our tables and rattles off some desserts. No "would you like dessert?", literally just lists them. I'm trying to salvage this night and think that they are asking in this bizarre way because they are planning to sing happy birthday to my boyfriend when they bring out the dessert, so we ordered the fruit. Throughout the night we had heard other people be sung to and I figured that was going to happened, but it didn't. Our dessert finally comes without any celebration and then we waited another 15-20 minutes after the plate was cleared to finally get our check. Extremely disappointed in the experience. I'm not sure what the issue was - maybe because we were young? No idea but I haven't had service that bad in a long time. Always loved the Palm and search one out whenever I'm traveling. Last night in DC the food and service were all good, chicken parmesan is to die for. I was a bit underwhelmed with the chop salad, which came out formed in a mold of what appeared to be a soup can. At first I thought it was a crab/avocado stack and not a salad at all. He rushed us to order and also mentioned twice how the kitchen was about to close. When our food finally arrived it was uncooked and actually tasted pretty bad. My lobster macaroni was literally watery with 0 flavor, my calamari was soggy, my crab cakes weren't too bad but by this point my appetite was completely ruined. My dates salmon was forgotten and when they finally brought it out it looked raw as well. He sent it back.(even after we complained about our meals we weren't offered a substitute or even just simply checked on to see why we were unhappy) I've been to many top rated restaurants Benihana, Ruth Chris, Mortan's, Fish, Joes, Etc. NEVER felt this way at any. I could rant on all day but these were the key factors that brought me to this one star rating. The easiest thing to do after a very poor restaurant experience is to immediately write a bad review for the restaurant, ripe with raw emotion. This is not that kind of review. On the contrary, I decided to wait no less than 2 weeks to properly reflect on my evening at the Palm and determine just how bad it really was. My assessment: Dining here was not only bad, but it was also degrading. I never want to return here again. I should begin by saying that I have always loved the Palm. My experiences in New York City at the TriBeCa location and the midtown location have always been first rate. As such, it makes sense that I might wish to celebrate my birthday at the Palm restaurant in Washington, DC where I now live. We actually arrived nearly 10 minutes late for our reservation, but the host was very accommodating and even jocular. We were seated right away. It made for a good first impression. The server was diligent about listing the specials and promptly took our orders. That was the end of our good experience. While waiting for the first course to arrive, we took in the restaurant. The layout was compressed, and, as such, the dining room was very loud. Above the general commotion, we were immediately interrupted by a man yelling. Apparently, a server with hot plates in hand was yelling repeatedly at an older gentleman who stood up in the aisle, to move aside so he could pass through. COMING THROUGH! The elderly man was slow to understand and respond, so he was yelled at no less than three times. Oh, my. My first course eventually arrived. The wait time was approaching 30 minutes or so, so we were antsy. I had the lobster bisque. This was nicely sieved allowing for a silky texture. Actual lobster meat was scarcely found, but the dish was tasty nonetheless. The wait began anew, this time extending past 40 minutes for the main course to arrive. Eventually my bone-in ribeye arrived with a side of potatoes au gratin. I had requested medium rare, but it was actually rare. I understand with the bone-in, the temperature can be uneven. It wasn't an egregious error. The meat was cool though, and the juices had settled making for a lackluster steak, not the usual high quality steak I am accustomed too. It sufficed. The potatoes were fatty and average. My girlfriend's lobster was fantastic by comparison though. Then we waited and waited. All the while, there was one chorus of "happy birthday" being sung after the other, only to be intterupted by a chorus of "happy anniversary". It was my birthday too, and I anxiously awaited my turn. It never happened. After more than 30 minutes of waiting, a check was --tossed-- to the side of my left arm, landing on the table with a soft thud. No birthday song for me. Time to wrap it up and head out, I guess. Apparently, my girlfriend made a signal to the server after our extended waiting, and we were dismissed rather than being offered the usual chorus, a chance for dessert, and the like. After paying the bill, we motioned for the server to return, and I explained that it was my birthday. Alas, no song would be had; no apology would be offered. As we walked out, my girlfriend was approached by a staff member who explained to her that the server simply brought the bill because she requested it. Fine. That could very well have just been a terrible misunderstanding on our part. It's not clear why they would skip the whole special occasion thing, but fine. We waited for the valet to return with our car. While waiting we were approached by another staff member. He asked how everything was. I said, in a single word, "terrible". His response? "Aww come on. Because you didn't get your song, you are going to say we were terrible?". Very patronizing. Not to be outdone though, the staff member went into an unprompted, extended defense of the restaurant. He wanted me to know that our server was the best server he has. Also, the restaurant has been written-up in the Washingtonian. They do very well and are very well regarded in the area. I simply offered that we have been faithful regulars at other outposts, and the standards have always been much higher than what we found here. That last gentleman could not have been more of a jerk. I'm still waiting on my second cocktail. I think someone should fill our waiter in on a little secret. You work on tips. The more items you sell, the higher the bill, the larger your tip. Sure the food is good - I mean I probably looked like Carnie Wilson from 1990 Wilson Phillips when I destroyed my 14 ounce medium rare Filet Mignon so bloody the chupacabra would ask for a bite. And everything on the side from hollandaise sauce to asparagus to wild mushrooms was great. But the service and atmosphere were as sloppy as a drunk transvestite during a gay pride parade. It took 30 minutes to receive our FIRST (and in my case, only) adult beverage. A piece of lemon served had mold on it (photo uploaded). The kitchen was in my direct line of sight from my chair and I saw an "out of work actor" eating off the serving line. My dining companions refused a new bottle of wine because it took so long to arrive they had already finished eating their entrées. The crowded and cramped dining room was so loud I could barely hear myself drink. I was offered a second cocktail and it never showed up. There were dirty, half eaten dinner plates on the table while dessert was served. Christ on a cracker what is going on here? The dessert was pretty standard for a chain restaurant. Delicious high calorie sweets most likely mass produced in Omaha and defrosted in DC. I guess the moldy fruit was an inventive touch? :( Ruth's Chris and Capital Grille rank higher on my list of good chain steakhouses. If you happen to shit hundred dollar bills then by all means The Palm is your place. But for me - I can cook my own filet mignon for much cheaper at home - and at least there I'm allowed to eat with no pants on and drink endless chardonnay out of a coffee mug like a normal person. read more

Out first night in DC and my friends and I decided that we needed to treat ourselves! We heard alot of good things about The Palm and we took our chances. Oh, were we glad that we did because The Palm did not disappoint with its absolutely delicious food, friendly and helpful servers, and the fascinating decor! We started off by ordering some oysters from Massachusetts that the waiter had recommended and it was a wonderful start to our dinner. I had the Veal Parmigiana with grilled mushrooms on the side and finished off with with classic vanilla creme brulee. I highly recommend all these food items! We ate dinner here on Easter and had a nice experience. Our waiter, Reggie, was very engaging and super accommodating (we had a picky eater with us)! Food was well cooked and delicious for the most part. Sides easily serve 4-5 people. I would avoid the home fried potato--too thick, not enough crispy bits. One of the best happy hour in town. During Palm's prime time (4:30-6:30pm and late night), you can get all the bar menu for only $3.50. If you like steak, try Palm's happy hour at the bar. 3 Veal parmigiana slider and 3 filet mignon capri slider. Flavors of both sliders were awesome. Veal and filet mignon were juicy and soft.. You would want to order another set. Calamari was well seasoned and crispy. Three mini crab cakes were full of crab meat, no filler. I've given this place so many chances. So. Many. Chances. I never come here by choice. But as it seems to be one of the boss's standbys, I figured I'd try to find something that I like. First was the salads. Soggy, devoid of texture, devoid of flavor. Next I went for the sandwiches, which turned out to be very mediocre. How bad can a lobster roll be at a fairly pricey restaurant, you as? All I got was a dried up bun filled with small pieces of lobster hidden inside a mound of runny coleslaw. So maybe I should stop skimping and go for the bigger guns? Chicken parm? A flat patty of chicken with watery marinara. The trout? Flavorless piece of indistinguishable fish. I could probably go down a longer list, but nothing I've had here was really worth remembering. The last time I was here, I ordered the bento box special. When the box arrived, I thought I had finally found the one dish that would redeem Palm in my eyes. In front of me was a succulent array of seared tuna, crab cake, fried shrimp. It was a no-fail menu. And yet, somehow I found myself picking at the hard batter and dry tuna. What was surprisingly yummy, however, were the green beans. Which is kind of sad if you think about it. The one thing I haven't tried here is the steak. And considering it's a steakhouse, I'm willing to accept the possibility that their signature item may be what gives the Palm it's fairly good reputation. Went here for a company event. Had reservations on open table but b/c of all the corporate holiday parties we were delayed in being seated by about 10 minutes. The place was over crowded and extremely loud. I can picture things might be more civil on an ordinary week night not around the holidays. We were finally seated and waited 23 minutes (yes I kept track) before a drink order was taken. The drink order was taken by the gentlemen who seated us as our waiter was no where to be found. Eventually, he came around and we decided it best to order appetizers and entrees as well as another round of drinks. We figured it would be another 15 min before our waiter would come back around and we were right. I ordered the filet w/ mac n cheese and it was pretty good. Nothing to write home about. Better steaks can be found at Bourbon Steak, Maestros, BLT and Del Friscos. The sides were decent but again nothing out of the ordinary. I have been to the Palm for a couple of Christmas parties in the past so was looking forward to celebrating my anniversary dinner here. When I made reservations I mentioned it was for an anniversary and requested a nice booth. When we showed up, all the staff congratulated us and were very warm and friendly. There was also a nice signed card from the entire staff at the table. Nice touch. We started out with a couple of perfectly-crafted cocktails; lovely dirty martini with blue-cheese stuffed olives and a Manhattan. Perfection. We started off with the bacon-wrapped scallops; not too bad, bacon overpowered the taste a bit and the balsamic it's served with I found to be unnecessary and unappetizing. But scallops were plump and flavorful. Now, onto the best part: the amazing wine list! Let me tell you, I've seen many a wine list, but the way they have organized their wine into regions, categories, tannins is PARTICULARLY impressive. Great labels, great vintages. We went with a Stag Leap's blend from '12 around the $70 range. Wonderful. So I ordered the bone-in ribeye with the brandy peppercorn sauce and my bf ordered the filet, Oscar style; both MR. We also ordered sides of: mushrooms, creamed spinach, and hashbrown potatoes, family-style. Family-style is a HUGE portion, so I would probably not suggest that, especially if you're going to be ordering so many sides. We found the creamed spinach to be okay, the mushrooms to be pretty good, but the hashbrown potatoes kind of lacked flavor (and salt). I would recommend sides of: goat cheese mashed potatoes, asparagus fritti, and the leaf spinach (not the creamed spinach). Much better sides. Our steaks, however, were phenomenal and cooked to perfection. His filet was SOOO flavorful and tender and my ribeye was bursting with smokey flavor, my mouth is watering thinking about it right now. If ever there was a doubt that The Palm has declined in quality and is overrated, I am here to debunk that today; their steaks are not to be rivaled. The dessert, on the other hand, was a huge fail. I had heard great things about the carrot cake but sadly, it was a frozen, dry cake on a plate. VERY little cream cheese frosting. Excuse me? The frosting is the BEST PART. I could tell they had just grabbed it out of the walk-in; sad, sad carrot cake. Our server was great though. Friendly, warm, made us feel welcomed and comfortable. Made it a special, celebrated occasion. They were going to sing a little anniversary song for us but we nixed that. We don't need all that. But the gesture was appreciated. Overall, they really know how to make a special occasion memorable. Amazing steaks, welcoming service, and lively atmosphere makes The Palm a class act in my book. read more

This is just for HAPPY HOUR, which is an excellent deal!! $4.50 for the bar bites? Wow. I went with a few friends on Monday evening around 6 pm, half an hour before the happy hour ended. The Palm was surprisingly empty! We sat at the counter next to the bar and ordered some food and drinks. I tried one each of the Prime Steakburger Sliders, Mini Broiled Crab Cakes & the Nova Scotia Lobster BLT Sliders. I thought the sliders were both delicious! And those waffle chips? Addictive! My boyfriend had a mojito, which was quite amazingly good. I wish they had drink specials, too, but you cannot complain with the great food deal. The Palm is a bit far for me on a busy day, but I am glad that I finally made my way out there. It was a fun place to hang out with my friends to grab a bite to eat. The food was not out of this world, so I am not sure I would go back, but if in the area, it's a great place to stop in! read more

A good friend's visiting DC, so we decided to kick off the three-day weekend with dinner at The Palm, a classic restaurant that's been on my list for a long time, and this classic certainly didn't disappoint. I got to the restaurant a little early, so I decided to just saddle up to the bar and order a cocktail, and the Mary Pat behind the bar was incredibly welcoming, making this first-timer feel right at home. She makes a mean cocktail, too! Once my friends arrived, we were seated towards the back of the house, surrounded by the caricatures adorning the walls that The Palm is famous for. I started my dinner with a small Caesar salad, perfectly dressed, with just the right amount of parmesan to complement the dressing. One of my buddies started with the lobster bisque, which he said was "out of this world". It is The Palm, after all, so my inaugural visit had to feature a steak, and I opted for the filet mignon. I like my steaks medium-well and it's amazing how few places can actually get that right, but the folks at The Palm did, butterflying my filet, seasoning it simply, and serving it with a great brandy peppercorn sauce. The three of us split several sides, including the creamed spinach, the sautéed green beans with pancetta, pepper flakes, and pine nuts; and one of the house specialties - the Half and Half: half freshly made cottage fries, half fried onion strings. They're ridiculously addictive and were a great complement to my filet. To round out the entrées, one buddy had the chicken parm - I got a taste of it, and it reminded me of the chicken parm you'd find in Little Italy in New York. My other buddy went for the crab cakes, which he said were good, but not as good as he's had elsewhere. At this point, we were thoroughly stuffed and passed on dessert, but we have it on good authority - my friend's mom - that the cheesecake is excellent. What really makes this place great is the service, and our server Jimmy took great care of us throughout the evening, from taking us through the menu to suggesting the perfect side dishes to giving us the history of the restaurant. He's a great guy, and you should definitely ask to be seated in his section when you head to The Palm DC. Jimmy also helped dispel my preconceptions regarding the restaurant - I had always thought of The Palm as a stuffy place but, now that I've been, it's really one of those comfortable places you can go to dressed casually and just enjoy some really good classic cooking. My next visit will be for lunch, since the menu's a little different - and I already have my eyes on their Bozzi Burger! FUN FACT: The Andy's Mixed Green Salad is named for Andy Cohen of Bravo TV fame. Who knew? read more

I finally made it the DC Palm and had the steak and lobster of course. The atmosphere is like that of a Capitol Grill or similar and according to my fellow diners always packed. The servers were top notch and the food was equally good. The lobster was fantastic and the desert, huge and delicious. If you go, best is to take the Metro to Dupont Circle south exit and walk the couple of blocks as parking is limited. read more

My co-workers and I came here for dinner last night and had a wonderful meal, as well as a really top notch waiter, Jimmy, who knew seemingly everything there was to know about the menu and the history of The Palm. This was my first time dining at The Palm (at any location) and I was really pleased! The entire atmosphere was preferable to other, similar multi-location high end steakhouses. The cartoons and caricatures were really interesting, particularly given the location and political powerhouses who choose to dine here. There is such a story and so much history in this establishment - how can you not love that? We started by sharing a lobster - and a 6 lb one, at that. We were told that all of the lobsters they use are freshwater caught, and thus a big guy like ours is just as good as a smaller size (it wasn't chewy at all). For dinner I got the 9 oz filet mignon, which came out with a nice almost charred sear on the outside while still really tender on the inside. I opted not to have them top it with a sauce and in retrospect I probably would have liked it even more with bearnaise. We also split several sides, and let me tell you - that creamed spinach is INSANE. Seriously, if you like creamed spinach get this ASAP. So worth the price and calories! A really great spot for a nice evening out where the $$$$ is no concern. You will be taken care of well. read more
