I would certainly recommend the Palm if you are looking for a steakhouse that has more going on than just steak. I booked the Palm for a retirement lunch for a colleague. Our group of six were treated to superb service that was competent but not overbearing. I booked a table through the OpenTable and it was an absolute breeze. They were not too crowded today but it was following a holiday weekend. First, the breadbasket featured some fantastic fresh baked loaves. The baguette style loaf was my favorite. The whipped butter was good too, but lacked a salty kick. It was a nice touch to include slim breadsticks in a pack along with the breadbasket. The "Power Lunch" menu has to be one of the best deals in the city. Three courses all for $29 (the dessert course is optional, without it the cost is $26). There were about three starter course options from salad to soups. There were about six main course choices from fish, steak, and chicken. Also available on the main course was the catch of the day which was Sea Bass. Instead of an item from the pre fixed menu, I went with the grilled romaine salad with Jumbo Lump crab meat and a burnt lemon vinaigrette. I added the world's best homemade blue cheese dressing on the side. The blue cheese dressing is a better pairing than the vinaigrette. However, the crab lacked that sweet flavor I associate with Jumbo Lump crabmeat. It seemed fresh, just missing that delectable flavor profile. The whole time I wished I could have had a crab cake, shrimp, salmon, or any other protein from the menu instead. This is the reason for four stars not five. However, I am told the kitchen shines with steaks and other fish dishes. A must try is the creamed spinach. It tasted so rich but not overly so. Nutmeg is an ingredient that most recipes call for and it was definitely present in this dish. The table shared a family tub of it much to our enjoyment. From that one dish five adults (always one person who hates spinach like a petulant six year old) had five plus nice sized servings with enough for leftovers. Dieters beware, the key lime pie will have you reaching for stretchy pants, gleefully so. For me it is something magical about the interplay of sweet and tart. I could see and feel bits of grated zest, which is a good thing. The crust was fantastic too. The blueberry compote was an unnecessary addition, so next time I will just leave it off. However, the fresh whipped cream and mint leaf was a much nicer accompaniment. I will order the key lime pie all day and twice on Sunday. My colleagues swooned over the 7 layer carrot cake, not my bag but they were over the top with the love. My colleagues enjoyed their meals with standouts being chicken parmigiana, the Lobster Salad, and the grilled chicken topped chop chop salad. Unbelievably, no one ordered steak or wine (we had to go back to the office) I will revisit this review once I try that for which they are renowned. All in all we paid $250 including tip for six people with three desserts. Between the ambience, the good food, and the superb service; I shall return. read more

TWO THINGS ABOUT DELIVERIES: First, I ordered from The Palm via grubhub for the second time, and the food just does not travel well. I will not order for delivery again. Second, The Palm should do what Morton's does--put a tamper proof seal on the bag used for delivery--Morton's just uses a sticker to close the middle of the bag, so no one. can get at the food without removing it. Not love, like...not because it isn't good (it is) but rather that's it's always so innocuous & staid. Conservatively predictable, much like Capital Grille, Joe's Stone, Old Ebbitt, et al. Consistent and often just a tad above underseasoned. High end cooking for the masses, I guess. Not complaining - JusSayin. Here for a 5:30-8p networking. We had a 3-course prix-fixe. I skipped dessert and coffee. The lump crab cake was nice, accompanied by a tasty slaw. The filet mignon was soft enough to cut with a butter knife (which I did since I didn't have a steak knife). My neighbor gave me half her steak. Cooked medium. Nice lady. Sharing is caring. The sea bass was so rich it tasted like a block of butter. Often super creamy with this particular fish, but this was a smidge over the top. I had the wild sauteed mushrooms. Tasty with a touch of sweetness. Virtually everyone ordered creamed spinach but weren't really eating it for whatever reason. One guy had the chicken parm - which looked really good. Covered his whole plate. Lots of wine - red, dry. Food was good. Conversation and interactions were terrific. Wishing I had more time to network. The parking garage I picked closed @8p so I had to dine 'n dash. Will be back. Had the New York strip and was terribly disappointed. Zero flavor, not sure it even had salt on it and it was over cooked. For what it cost I expected a top cut, but had an inedible layer that was very hard to even cut off. Lobster bisque has zero lobster in it. The Palm is an old Washington establishment. Haven't been here for a long time but doesn't look like much has changed. Although I kind of remembered that the dining room as well as the caricatures on the walls were bigger but that was probably due to faulty memory. On the other hand the very nice glass enclosed porch area in front could be a more recent addition and is a great place for people watching. Inside you pass through a darkish partitioned bar section with a few very roomy booth seats before you reach the brighter dining room which can be quite noisy when full - as it was today due to this being a Friday during winter restaurant week. The RW offerings are fairly standard for a traditional steakhouse - we had Ceasar salad, steak, salmon, and for dessert key lime pie and Zeppoles - somewhat unremarkable but well prepared and perfectly good as expected. He was really interested in what he did, and only asked him questions when making small talk about his life. What a great DC dining experience! Beyond great service from John (wish I'd caught his last name), great lobster, great filet, great gin & tonic, very great creamed spinach... I'm sure the entire menu is still great. I really wish The Palm Restaurant in Denver was still in business as it was my go-to location for special occasions, (I still have my 837 Club membership cards from over the years), but this was a great first visit to the DuPont Circle location. Celebrating a long overdue reunion with an overseas friend, I pre-ordered an eGift Certificate from the Landrys' website to start the evening's surprises with. I love the feature where you can upload a color photo to accompany the certificate. This went off without a hitch! The only real bummer for me was the recipe for Shrimp Bruno seems to have changed since I last tasted it (less mustardseed?). It was still quite delicious, just different. Disappointed with their current lobster sandwich promotion for $15.00. A couple of observations. The buns were small, old and hard. Not more than about 4 - 5 small mouthed bites if that. The lobster was over salted. My friend took one bite of the sandwich and immediately took the lobster out of the bun and ate it by itself. The bun went straight to the trash can. No excuse for this whatsoever. Pitiful excuse for a lobster roll. BGR's lobster rolls in Arlington use hoagie sized rolls which are stuffed and contain no filler like celery. Atmosphere - The restaurant was dimly lit, had tablecloths and real tealights on the tables (vs. electric). The walls were wall to wall pictures of caricatures of famous people (I didn't know many of them though!). Male patrons were wearing button down shirts, slacks, shoes (vs. sneakers) and most men were wearing blazers. Women were neatly dressed. It is a nice special occasion place and I can see business meals being had there as well. Food - Delicious! We split a shrimp cocktail, split the porterhouse steak, split hashbrowns and split chocolate cake. We each had one cocktail and I ordered a hot tea. The chocolate cake was worth every calorie. YUM! Service - AMAZING. Our waiter was really funny and made sure we were happy throughout the meal. I believe his name was Charles. On OpenTable, I had written that it was our anniversary. I wrote it kind of tongue in cheek but since I haven't been in a serious relationship in 7 years, 9 months is momentous to me! When we got to the restaurant there was a happy anniversary card on the table. Charles asked us which anniversary it was and I laughed and told him it was 9 months. The rest of dinner, he teased me about it. Finally, he had 4 waiters come up and sing Happy Anniversary to us. I laughed so hard. The dinner was a blast. Wow. I am generally easygoing and understand mistakes happen but this was just a horrible experience overall. Walked in at 8pm without a reservation and the restaurant was still lively but not crowded. We were seated quickly. The waiter was hovering and didn't give us much time to decide our order. Fine, no big deal, we were probably his last table for the night and he wanted to keep us moving. We got a few cocktails, a shrimp cocktail, and the three of us each got a steak, medium rare, and a side of green beans to share. Should be easy enough. Shrimp cocktail was good. Steaks come out and two of the three steaks are cooked medium plus. One steak was cooked correctly at medium rare. I'm not generally fussy but a $70+ steak should be cooked how I order it. The two of us with the medium steaks decided to politely ask for another. I don't know if the waiter didn't hear us but at first he tried to only replace one steak. He barely apologized and treated us like we were criminals for asking to be served what we ordered. We were starving so we thought, oh well, we can eat the green beans while we wait. We could not. The green beans were an oily mess and had a distinct flavor of...GARBAGE. All three of us could not eat the green beans as they were flavored with essence of garbage. I let the waiter know it seemed like something had gone wrong in the green bean preparation so he took them away. So two of us sat there starving waiting for our steaks to come out. When they finally did, they were more rare than medium rare, but whatever, I'd rather have an undercooked steak than overcooked. The steaks were okay but nothing special and definitely not worth the price tag. We each had a glass of wine with dinner. All of this was ok, I could have done without the servers attitude, but I wouldn't have even bothered writing a review if not for this simple fact. The customer service was terrible. If this had happened at a place with half decent management, a manager would have come out and apologized, offered a small consolation like a glass of wine or a comped dessert for our trouble. None of this happened. I didn't ask to see a manager, I'm not that type of person. I just definitely won't be coming back. It's a shame as one of my dinner guests was looking at booking a large event here but that is definitely not happening after our sad experience last night. Hopefully there's a plan in place to improve management at this location. And if not, there should be. read more

Rest In Peace, The Palm. It is with great sadness that I write this review. I've been going to The Palm for over 30 years and enjoyed it every time. I have (or had) loads of points in the 837 Club, had family meals, business meals and even meals alone at The Palms in DC, Vegas, New York, Chicago, Boston and LA. Lobsters, shrimp cocktails, half and half, filets, New Yorks, rib eyes, cheesecake, creamed spinach, mushrooms, broccoli - it was all so predictable, consistent, delicious. The service was upbeat, friendly, honest. The ambience was steakhouse-perfect. Jeez, I even craved the breadsticks and raisin bread. My experience last night was awful. The place was dead, the host was pretentious, the server was rushing us, and then the death knell. The waiter told me that the 837 Club has been cancelled because - wait for it - The Palm has been sold to the Dark Side - a conglomerate that owns McCormick and Schmucks, Bubba friggin' Gumps, and some other crap hole I wouldn't set my worst enemy's foot in. Yup, they sold out. My steak needed to be sent back twice to achieve a medium rare temperature (buy a goddam meat thermometer!), the shrimp cocktail was mediocre (aren't they supposed to have a bit of pink on them?) and the creamed spinach was cold (rookie mistake). My guest's fillet was the filet tip and had the consistency of shoe leather. There are so many great steakhouses around, that The Palm is now dead to me. I hear Taps playing and I'm tearing up. So many memories. Bathroom attendants handing me my towel, mouthwash. Laughter. Steaks so good I wanted more when my stomach was saying "get the f$@k out of here" ... and I would reprimand that foul-mouthed hydrochloric acid sac by stuffing it with cheesecake and strawberry goo sauce. Don't place an order via their website!! If anything goes wrong, don't expect them to care. I placed an order today via their website with a scheduled pick-up time of 5:15 PM. I received a confirmation email with all my order details. Thank goodness I did not select the option to pay in advance. When I arrived at the pick-up time, I called from my car to check if my order was ready. The person who answered took down my name and number and what I ordered and then checked and reported back that they didn't see that I placed an order. That person connected me to someone else who asked me the same series of questions and also asked where I placed the order. I said I placed it online directly via the restaurant's website. That person sounded surprised by the concept of an order being placed via their website and put me on hold. A THIRD person came on the phone and said, "How may I help you?" [I took a deep breath because I really don't like being passed around from person to person with each person not being pre-briefed on why I called and asking the same series of questions each time.] After explaining the same thing to this third person, the response I received was, "We don't have it." I'm thinking, "Yeah, that's pretty obvious by now." The problem I had at that point was that I realized I was naive in expecting to hear: "I'm very sorry for this mistake. I'm sure it is a true inconvenience. Would you like to place the order again? I will put a rush on it and get it ready for you right away." Instead, the "Where did you place the order? Was it this location? We don't have it." from the staff felt very dismissive and almost accusatory. I reminded the third person that the mistake was on the restaurant's end and expressed that I did not feel any sincere apology coming my way. I also went inside to show the staff at the front desk my confirmation email to let them know there's an issue with their website. They didn't seem particularly interested besides some blank nods. I only ordered from this restaurant because it's the closest Landry's restaurant to my house, and I needed to earn 11 more points to get enough for a $25 gift card from Landry's before my points expire in a few days. Given that I gave the third person on the phone an unwanted lecture on customer service, I decided it wouldn't be wise to place the order again through him. I placed an order at McCormick & Schmick's (a nearby Landry's restaurant) instead. Their menu prices were better anyway. I don't plan to visit The Palm. Unfortunately, this evening's dining experience was disappointing. We were celebrating a birthday and this was meant to be a special evening. There were several issues with the dinner and beverages, but the most apparent were the entrees. We had ordered the "Surf and Turf," which was incredibly misleading. There was no significant seafood served with the filet. There was a spoonful of lobster flavored sauce. This was completely mislabeled on the menu and very misleading. Even the server acknowledged the bamboozlement of the menu wording. The other entree was the 14oz NY Strip, which according to the menu, seems to be served "as is" with no additional sauces or sides. However, it was served with a generous spoonful of the lobster and cherry pepper sauce. This is not listed on the menu at all. For someone that cannot eat seafood, this was upsetting at a $70 price tag. Having spoken with the server and manager, it was my hope that these issues would have been rectified on the bill. That was not the case. For a dining experience like this, I would have expected The Palm to extend some responsibility with the confusion on their menu. I'm hoping some reimbursement or credit can be extended. I look forward to hearing from you. read more

I went to the Palm last Friday for a business lunch because we were all craving steak, it ended up being a mistake. I am so disappointed because I really love the Palm franchise and I'm giving them 2 stars not based on this experience but based on previous excellent dinner services. I think Lunch at the Palm is a terrible idea. We had a reservation and still waited 10 minutes to be seated when the restaurant was basically empty. We all decided to order the lunch special which was a soup/salad, entree, and dessert for $26. We were celebrating so we decided to order a bottle of wine as well. Our first course went well and was pretty speedy. I ordered the lobster bisque and I really enjoyed it. It was very flavorful and had nice chunks of lobster. Next course is where everything fell apart. It took maybe 30 minutes after we had finished our starters for this course to show up. I ordered the filet medallions and they were drowning in a sauce with some flavorless green beans. Everyone's steak was cooked incorrectly. I ordered medium, it came rare. My coworkers both ordered rare and received well done steaks. The restaurant re-cooked both steaks but it was just a huge disappointment. The only thing our table could agree on being good was the french fries that came with the steak. The restaurant did refund both of the major fail lunches so that was a plus. However, our server told us point blank that the lunch NY Strip is not as high quality of a cut as it usually is at dinner. That was a HUGE red flag for me. As someone who used to be a Palm loyalist, they may have lost me on this meal. read more

All the small plates are $3.50 and oysters are $1 each. mini crabcakes-It had very little binders, but the taste paled in comparison to Oceanaire's crabcake sliders. filet mignon sliders-Husband loved those sliders (minus the tomato of course) and thought they were the best. I didn't think they were particularly flavorful, but the filet was very tender. oysters-They were fresh and clean tasting. The kitchen also did a good job of shucking the oysters, so no bits and pieces of shells to spit out. A friend gave me a gift card here (yay, Molly!) and I was actually surprised I'd never been after so many years in D.C. I used to work around the corner, but it always seemed like a place "real" adults frequented and I was fresh out of college. Anyway, I guess I'm a real adult now because both my husband and I enjoyed it. We wanted a table on the enclosed patio, but seating was only available inside. The ambiance definitely felt suited for an older crowd, but the dim lighting worked for a date. Our servers were very attentive and we received drinks and appetizers quickly. For dinner, we ordered Chilean Sea Bass and Veal Parmesan - both dishes were hearty and well-seasoned, and I was very happy with the portion size. Most of the other tables near us ordered lobster, which looked amazing. I wasn't disappointed with our meals at all, but definitely going for the lobster next time based on its popularity. The table next to me assaulted because I articulated an experience I had at the Miami club called 11. I am 5'7 175lbs and the guy was at least 350 6'4. I never used a cursed word but I did say after "4am it's Strip club " the man at the table next door said he'd fight me but I didn't oblige and meet him outside. He challenged me, got out of his chair, leaned down into my face, while I didn't get up. Waited for 20 minutes and decided to engage management. They did nothing and I left. Seems the palm steakhouse would rather not engage than ask an aggressive person to relocate to a different table in an empty restaurant. I am born and raised in DC, and have been coming here for years. Disappointed. Will not bring a client here again, will not let my sales team bring their clients here again. My best friend and I have been going too the Palm to celebrate our Birthdays for years! During the pandemic, I ordered delivery from the Palm over 100 times! We've love going here as you could always be guaranteed an excellent meal. Going back for the first time in more than two years was very disappointing! The bread we looked forward to was no longer! While you'll rarely leave The Palm spending less than a few hundred dollars, you'll leave believing it a bargain. The steaks are corn fed, aged at least 35 days, and cooked to perfection. This is also one of the few steakhouses where seafood reigns equally excellent. Petit Filet done Oscar style is superb. Giant shrimp appetizer and creamed spinach side and you've had a great meal. Lunch or dinner, The Palm never disappoints. I've dined in their restaurants in Boston, NYC, Washington, Miami, Las Vegas, and Atlantic City. I'm a member of the 837 Club and have never had a bad meal or anything less than outstanding professional service in every Palm. read more

I came in here a day before easter with a reservation and everything was great minus some of the pricing but for a place like this with a big reputation in multiple locations you have to expect them to overprice some things. The service there was great, your water was always being refilled, dishes removed to have a clean table, and bread basket refilled when requested. For a family of four we ordered Appetizers -Special cauliflower soup This had to be one fo the best soups I ever had. It was so creamy and savory with a small hint of spices and bacon. Amazing! -Caesar Salad A classic done well. -Scallops Very tender in a good sauce. -Fried Calamari This was super butter and crisp. No chewy or rubberiness to it. Dipped with a marinara sauce Dinner -Wagyu Which was phenomenal. Its almost like a filet mignon yet it had so many more flavors and tenderness to it. -12 ounce filet mignon (cooked medium well) Super tender and buttery but not as much as the wagyu. -Crab Cakes These happened to be baked which give you less oil which I think is better (and healthier). Crisp and delicious. -Chicken Parmigiana This was one of the biggest chicken cutlets Ive ever seen for a dish like this. The chicken had to be pounded down because it was very thin (which is my favorite), and crispy. It had the perfect amount of cheese and sauce which were both great. For desert we had the donut holes which were great and made right before. With a chocolate and raspberry dipping sauce. I have not been to The Palm in DC in years but I remember it had great food, great drinks, and a good vibe. So when my wife, daughter, and I decided to est out for Christmas this year we were excited to make reservations at The Palm. The food has gone downhill from what I remember. My wife's octopus and bone marrow ragu was too salty - so much so that she could not eat it. The sauces for my daughter's chicken parm and my veal chop Margherita was unremarkable and bland. Our side order of asparagus and Tuscan white beans was pedestrian at best. We were really disappointed in our meal. read more
