I would love to give this place a higher rating but I do think they have a lot for improvement. As some who visits this restaurant are, I'm a self-proclaimed Whovian who just needs to visit this place. This restaurant is located on a little quaint town called Beacon. It's a very lovely town and I believe is probably a vacation spot for upstate New York. If we had time I'd love to explore the rest of it. We arrived about 40 mins after it's regular opening hours and there were already customers in there. It's a very small place so now I understand how it can fill up quickly. One thing I noticed as soon as we walked in is it is very quiet. And I think it's because they would normally run episodes of Doctor Who on the TV but it was off that morning (they didn't turn it on until we were about to leave and by then there was only one table occupied). What I love most is the decor. It's got every basic element of Doctor Who, mostly from the 11th Doctor. Now to the food. We ordered Fish Fingers and Custard as appetizer and I'm surprised to say I do enjoy it! It's a sweet and savory dish. I ordered a Curry Chicken sandwich and squash soup. The sandwich is very good. The soup would've been better if it wasn't so salty. My husband ordered a baked dish which I can remember the name of but it was delicious as well (it has potatoes and veggies). My friend ordered another dish which I also don't remember the name of but it has mashed potatoes and sausage or meatloaf. Very delicious. Finally, I've read many people complain about the service. I do say though the one waitress is not the typical outgoing, bubbly waitress you get but she wasn't mean or anything. She was pleasant and maybe a bit shy and was quick in getting our orders and getting our food. I may come back but it's kind of out of the way for me so unless I'm in the area it'll be hard for me to visit more frequently. So excited, finally got to this place. As everyone says the bathroom is the best. If you a true whovian you will enjoy but I agree with other reviews they could have added much more on the decor and names of foods. That said food was very good, of course had the fish fingers and custard, k9's, and a sandwich special. Staff was very friendly however a tiny bit slow. All in all a pleasurable experience, except for some absolutely obnoxious Russian bully who yelled at the waitress for nothing. But thank god an older woman, owner maybe, cane out gave them what for and kicked them the hell out, she was Great for sticking up for her girl like that!!# read more

I brought my homebody husband who is a Dr. Who fan as a treat on our trip to NY. We actually went for dessert only and had the Madame DePompadour, a light mascarpone cheese with fresh berries AMAZING cake. While it was kinda pricey, both of us had generous servings and it was worth it! The lovely British lady went back and forth with hubby about Dr. Who references and I enjoyed learning the meaning behind several menu items. You can tell that she put a lot of effort into making the restaurant reflect the show, even to the silverware pattern! This is a cute restaurant, for what it is. Dr. Who themed with the TV showing a bunch of episodes as you eat. I'm not a huge Whovian as my friends are that I've been here with several times, but I can appreciate the place for what it is. The theme or decor of this restaurant is definitely not why this place only got three stars. I'm disappointed in the food. As I mentioned, I was here several times. The seasoning is often off, either bland or just too much. I ordered the thymey whimey beef cottage pie, which was ok, definitely not like a traditional British cottage pie with its grounds beef. The thyme was overwhelming, though I know it has "thyme" in its name, it was just too much. The bangers and mash are not consistent, really flavorful one time but not the next. I want to love the fish fingers and custard, but they're just friend carbs and the custard has no flavor. The tea is always good, at least. read more

I was drawn to this place by my absolute LOVE for Doctor Who, and many people recommended it to me. I visited once last year, and once again this year and both experiences were wonderful. I love that there are so many delicious vegetarian options for me to choose from! This time I had a falafel wrap & was amazed. The tzatziki sauce was amazing & portion size perfect. My daughters and I decided to try this restaurant, as we live just across the river but had never gone. My daughters are avid Dr. Who fans, so that was the main reason we went. The three of us loved the theme and the decorations. They also were excited to see the various props in the display case up front. I was also pleasantly surprised by how good the food was, as I wasn't sure what to expect. My younger daughter couldn't wait to try fish fingers and custard (which were fish sticks with a cup of custard to dip them in). I chose the falafel wrap, which was VERY good. My older daughter enjoyed her cranberry chicken salad, and the cake they ordered for dessert was delicious. Our server was very friendly and discussed the "best episodes" with my girls. This restaurant was great for "Whovians" but not so overdone that non-fans would feel out of place, and the food was terrific. Definitely stop in if you are in the area. read more

Fun place to eat after hiking Mount Beacon Park! We are not Dr Who watchers but were educated on the show and the playful origins of the named dishes. Shirley showed us our names in Gallifreyan! Food was good, menu is mostly British with a Dr Who twist (fish and chips becomes fish and custard, though you can still get fish and chips, of course). This establishment can't hold reservations properly. No apologies were issued. A reservation table of 12 was made a few weeks ago. Upon arrival, our reservation was bumped to a later time. As we arrived later...the 12 of us were crammed into an area with barely any space. When asked to move elsewhere (the restaurant was EMPTY), we were told the other tables were reserved. As we finished our meal an hour later...the restaurant was still empty. Reserved....right! As a restaurant that claims to have a theme off of Doctor Who...one would think photos would be allowed to be taken of the painted artwork on the wall display. We live in Beacon and have wanted to try the restaurant for a long time, just never got around to it. We were very pleased with our service from the greeting of the hostess, Jess, to our delightful server, Amy. The side salad that came with our entrees was very nice and even our 13 yr old son complemented the dressing. Three of us ordered the bangers and mash, because, hey, bangers and mash! There was nothing left on our plates. My father-in-law enjoyed his Cottage Pie. The 'Sweeties' were quite nice, too. We are fans of Doctor Who, though the kids are kind of growing out of it - lol!. The decor was spot on - not over the top, but cleverly executed. We also liked the old-style English China that food was served on. If there were different ratings for ambience and food this would have gotten a higher raiting. The theme was spot on! They executed the Dr. decorations. Loved every inch of it! Even the bathroom was awesomely decorated. I loved the weeping angel and the Ood. Although I sat at the table directly in front of the Ood so I kept thinking someone was standing directly behind me the entire time. The food was OK. The Whommas was just a plain Hummas with pita bread. I think a flavored hummus would be nice and my pita chips were a bit too hard for my liking. I ordered the special of the day which was a chicken wrap. And I had the house fries. But we're excellent. The wrap was wrapped perfectly and didn't fall apart when eating. Very important. I took half my lunch home with me as the serving sizes were quite large. Something I'm not complaining about. The menu was very clever in its enteee names "I want my Mummy meatloaf" "fish fingers and custard" and the "Sally Sparrow duck salad". I didn't have room for dessert but the Madam De Pompadour cake caught my eye so I took it to go. Especially since the waitress said it was her favorite item on the menu. Here are the reasons I'm not giving it a higher score 1. It took 15 minutes from being seated to receive even a glass of water. I had ordered the tea of the day which I had been advised was Raspberry. After 10 minutes of waiting for said tea my not so attentive server appeared and announced that the tea was actually mint. I politely declined and said that I'd be happy with water...which took another 5 minutes to arrive. My server also passed by my table 3-4 times filling other tables water glasses but never once offered to refill mine. I finally had to ask. Even though my glass was obviously empty. 2. In general the service was rather slow. Granted I did come at a busy time of the day 1:00pm on a Saturday and they graciously accommodated me without a reservation. Being from out of town I didn't realize reservations were necessary. But almost everyone seated after me had their food much earlier than I did. 3. The Madam De Pompadour cake which I brought home and ate later that evening was extremely disappointing. I will admit that I am a chef and specifically a pastry chef and my standards are rather high. I don't usually order dessert because quite often I'm unimpressed. That was definitely the case here. You could tell that the cake was homemade which gets a thumbs up from me and it was dense like a pound cake. But the entire cake lacked flavor. And when I say flavor I don't mean sweetness. I'm not a big fan of super sweet desserts so that doesn't bother me. But it was dry and had no flavor. I was really disappointed. 4. This is more of a suggestion then a complaint I would love to see the servers look like they are part of the concept. Perhaps wearing a fez or suspenders and or a bow tie. Or maybe even Converse shoes like the 10th Doctor. Although a trench coat and or Tom Baker' scarf would be completely impossible to wear while serving. They are best hanging on the coat rack in the front window as they are. I would also suggest the TV play Dr. Who on a continuous loop via Blu-ray or DVD vs. BBC America. The commercials detract a bit from the ambience. Overall it was a really great experience and if I lived locally I would go often! If you go make sure to visit the bathroom for more surprises. People from all over flock to this restaurant for their creative menus. The atmosphere is always vibrant and inviting. Every member of staff has a deep passion for all things that are Doctor Who related. The staff will make sure you receive the most fantastic customer service. They have no problem with talking about Dr Who episodes while your food is descending from the heavens. During the Pandemic Shirley has been working non- stop to make sure that everyone can get their Pandorica fix on. Unlike other restaurants on Main Street the staff of Pandorica will never gossip about you. If you're having trouble on what to decide from the Curb side pick up menu, I reccomend the Pork pile up(Where's Lazlo. It is a staple of the Pandorica. The owner Shirley is one of the kindest restauranters in Beacon. Forgetting the Dr.Who theme which I am not familiar with and don't care, the service was the worst I have experienced. The food was not bad, well presented and quite good. The entire wait staff seemed to be on prozac, spaced out and perhaps spent to much time watching Dr.Who episodes. Just ordering drinks of which 2 orders were plain water was an ordeal. The waitress told us that they had "special water in bottles that you can take with you". we were expecting some fancy European or exotic flavored water of the month but was presented with regular Poland Spring water. Our lunch finally arrived after 40mins & asking politely several times, the restaurant only had a handful of diners at the time. Then getting our check took another 10-15 mins. If I were a Dr.Who fan I wouldn't mind since I could watch TV and get lost in the show, but we came to eat not watch some lame TV show. This was by far the worst dining experience we all had, so bad we didn't leave a tip as we felt unwelcome and more of a burden. read more

I finally made it to Pandorica today. I have wanted to dine here for over a year...and I was not disappointed! My wife and I only found Dr Who a few years ago and we are big fans of the show. The show is well represented in this restaurant. The decor is tasteful and not tacky. Ok, this is the third paragraph and no mention of the food. The food is very good and many of the entree names on the menu are clever references to the series. I had the Are You My Mummy Meatloaf. The serving was more than I could finish.The mashed potatoes were NOT instant and the meatloaf was moist and flavorful. My wife had the Timey Wimey beef cottage pie. She told me it was very good and more than she could finish. We ordered the Fish Fingers and custard dessert and it was very good. We brought the bread pudding home and have not tried it yet, but I am not worried about it. Our appetizer was the Sontoran brigade...it was delicious and the presentation was very creative (looked like tiny Sontorans in battle armor). The staff were friendly and attentive and wanted to be helpful (they were). After greeting us, our server wanted to know if we were Dr Who fans, as some people just wander in for a meal and have no clue about The Doctor. As one final note...my wife is handicapped (just a cane to assist her in walking today) and the staff was very accommodating as far as seating (a table my wife could get into and out of easily and sit at comfortably). I mention this because of the staff at Pandorica wanted my wife to have a good experience and because we have been to restaurants who have made my wife's visit miserable. Owner cashes in on Whovian gullibility; Whovians cash out on Owner. A group of friends and I were excited to try this quaint little place in a beautiful area in Beacon with the highest hopes for a good time. None came. The first indication of inadequacy should've come from the owner's interview with WPDH in which she states that she had to rebrand her current restaurant with something that be more appealing. Shirley may very well be a marketing genius, but a manager she is not. After trying to call all day and only getting a prerecorded message stating that the wait time was two hours, my group of 7 showed up and was seated immediately. After this high point of our experience, we quickly realized how wrong the reviews on facebook were. The menu(or 8.5" x 11" crinkled printer paper) was shortened to apps, salads, desserts, and half a dozen sandwiches. The restaurant, which had been open a month already, was crammed with unused furniture taking up their already limited space. But most importantly, the waitress was just plain awful. She was rude, told us that we weren't able to separate certain ingredients from the foods, and then proceeded to complain about how difficult we were being for splitting the check. After that, we got up and left, unwilling to even try the food. Guys, don't buy into this hype, at least not until you've actually been there! The server was a complete menace and treated us with incredible disrespect. You'd get more for your money if you invested it in a fake sonic screwdriver! read more

Wait a minute, Slapping up VanGogh TARDIS mural, the Pandorica lodged in the brick, a crack in the wall and painting the bathroom door to look like the TARDIS doors classifies this as a Doctor Who themed restaurant?? I was highly disappointed in this place, I wanted to love it so hard too. It seems NOONE watched any of the Doctor Who seasons aside from the Matt Smith ones. The waitress didn't even get my Doctor Who reference when she seated us. Honestly I should have known from the get go I would be let down. We ordered appetizers and drinks around lunchtime. Unlike most other yelpers, my cousin and I had a great experience on Sunday. We arrived shortly before 2 and after the three reserved groups were called in, we were seated. Let me say, the decor is cool like bow ties. The bathroom is the tardis and also has the dreaded crack in the wall. There is a huge tardis explosion picture and reruns of doctor who are always playing which is great. The menu is small but has options. I settled on fish fingers and custard as well as a buffalo chicken wrap. Both were good. My cousin had the flatbread pizza and the curried chicken salad which she said was good as well. The staff was nice but the wait was a little long. It seemed like several tables were eating while others still had yet to order but the place was slammed with all but one table filled. This restaurant is for the experience which is great if you're a who fan. If you're not, it's just another cafe with tea and food. I can't wait to go back. read more

I read many of the reviews on this site regarding this restaurant. Here's some background: In August of 2014, a report came out that there was a Doctor Who themed restaurant opening. Being a fan I was thrilled. I wasn't sure if it was going to be one of those overt, gaudy IN YOUR FACE experiences, or a nice, subtle nod to the show/history of the culture. Sadly, with it being in Beacon, NY and I being out of state, I had no real reason to go. Fast forward to 2015. I am making plans to go to out for Valentine's Day and wondering what I can do to make it special for my girlfriend. It dawns on me to take her here, as we're both huge Doctor Who fans. She was thrilled, but I was nervous after reading some reviews that the theme wouldn't be enough. Well, reviews can be wrong, thankfully. The place was quiet and there was one large table celebrating a birthday when we walked in. There was no clear host stand, so we made our way up to the bar. The theme of Doctor Who was present and not overwhelming at all. There was fan art/art from a local artist on the walls, the cute menus, and of course, the much talked about Tardis bathroom. There was a big screen playing Doctor Who (David Tennant-my girlfriend's favorite Doctor) and another party waiting to be seated. This was around 6:30 or so and by the time we left at 8:00 there had been a steady stream of at least three other tables. It was quiet, like I said, cozy and the noise was NOT overpowering. In short, it was just right. The food-also mostly Doctor Who themed and very British- was standard fare. The portions were spot on and tasty. We shared the K-9 appetizer, little mini hot dogs in a corn dog batter that were tasty. My girlfriend had the falafel wrap and I had the meatloaf sandwich. Both were tasty and filling. They came with chips and a creamy coleslaw that was nice. We shared dessert-the very tasty fish fingers and custard and an apple tart with caramel and ice cream that was warm and delicious. We split a nice bottle of of wine that was reasonably priced for a restaurant and thought that the prices were very reasonable for the food we got. The food wasn't gourmet, nor was it spectacular-it was a nice meal. That is not a slam to chef or the kitchen or the restaurant-it simply means that if you go for the food, you will not be disappointed. The staff took the time to create some fun names and ideas for the menu, being Doctor Who based, without being tacky and lame. The food is served on traditional tea serving flatware (this being a former tea parlor and all) and the tea-that very British staple-is still served with care and pride. The restaurant was fun, the staff was very friendly and fun and they took the care to make things special. The owner had contacted me via a Facebook message after I inquired about Valentine's Day specials to make a reservation, because she knew that it was important to me to be able to take my girlfriend there. The food came out at a good clip and the waitress was very friendly and nice. Plus, they use Square, which is great-no more waiting for your card to be run and having it take more time. You can do it right at the table and be done that much fast. Kudos to bringing that to the table, so to speak. This reminded me of going to your friend's house and being able to geek out while watching Doctor Who and raiding their fridge for leftovers. We were made to feel welcome, cozy and comfortable. We definitely have plans to come back and even purchased some art prints for our house (all the money goes directly to the artist, a great way they support their community.) For some reason we had a totally different experience. Place was empty and the waiter seemed to have an attitude like we were bothering him. No background music at all. The primary goal of any restaurant is to provide good food and with good service. the theming is merely a hook or a way to distinguish themselves from everyone else. Unfortunately the food was not good, the service not great, and the theming seemed halfway thought thru. i could forgive the theming if they served good food, but they don't. Everything about the Pandorica is uneven. The menu: it's confusing. It's part british pub, part tea shop combined with Dr Who puns, then things like roast duck that just don't fit with anything else on the menu. Theres only one item I could see for children (fish custard with french toast sticks instead of fish sticks). They have a heavy bent towards the tea shop but you have to ask for sugar? and for spoons? There's two dozen decaf teas but not basic black decaf tea? If I order unsweetened iced tea, why would I get Rasberry iced tea? The service: We walked in and the waitress didn't notice us because they were too busy BS'g about DW with the lone patron there. Then we had wait to order because they were still BS'g with the other patron. We're not Rory the boy who waited. Geeking out about DW is fine but not when it interferes with the primary function of the business. After that the service was fine but the damage was already done. The food: the mashed potatoes were good but the meat loaf had a weird taste to it, and the shepherds pie... i dunno. My GF did not enjoy her food either but Ill let her speak for herself. Theming: They have a beautiful exploding tardis wall mural and DW artwork done by a local artist but also cardboard daleks and weeping angels that you can buy at spencers.You can't throw some LPs on the wall, put out a cardboard cutout of Elvis, show me a menu with a black and white on it and say "Hey we're a 50's diner!" You need to put more thought into it. I now understand why the locals go to other establishments and why we were the only patrons in the entire restaurant for the majority of the time we were there. read more

Its all great. But.... When I go to themed restaurants the food usually leaves me wanting, Wanting to go somewhere else. Not here. The food is excellent, great service, and so much to see. I know nothing about Dr. Who and though I'm sure the decor is a thrill to fans I don't really care. We sat at a cute little café table on the sidewalk on a beautiful summer day so the decor inside didn't really affect us one way or the other. But our setting outside was extremely pleasant. The food is delicious and the waitstaff helpful and attentive. They have many gluten free, vegetarian and vegan items. I have been to this restaurant several times before joining Yelp. I have brought several of my geek friends (including my husband,) We all love this place. The decor is totally appropriate. The owner knows her Dr. Who trivia, and will patiently chat with any geek about it. The food is unique and delicious. My only complaint is they need to give more of it for the prices. I haven't had a problem with service there. My favorite experience here was coming out of the bathroom, and photobombing a group taking a picture in front of the TARDIS door! read more
