Ohhhhhhhhh mama! I did NOT think I'd find a place that has better eggs Benedict then state street cafe (they have the fire sauce) but I found a place and you know what makes it so good? The fact that they don't over feed you. America has portions that will feed a family so to see portions that can only feed like two people instead of four makes me happy. I'm trying to shed 30 years of lard my mom used to cook with still. ‍ we'll talk about that later though. My first time to The Pantry and a wonderful experience! Arrived around 12pm on a Sunday. The line was out the door but I was told it's usually much longer especially when school is in session. The line moved pretty quickly and we had a nice conversation with the owner while waiting. About 15 minutes later we were seated at a window-side table. I ordered an egg white omelette with mushrooms, spinach and cheese and we also got the cinnamon roll pancake to share. I don't usually enjoy home fries or any kind of breakfast potatoes but The Pantry's are amazing-super flavorful and crispy! The cinnamon roll pancake and coffee was also super delicious! Tasty breakfast spot! Enjoyed our selection of two (fluffy) eggs with breakfast meat (bacon for me and sausage for my partner), potatoes, and toast. I wasn't too found of the blueberries, they had no favor and almost appeared fake. Aside from that the flavor of the batter was out of control. My wife's cinnamon swirl pancakes were amazing. My wife got the scramble eggs with a side of home fries and English muffin. Both excellent. My only grip is that my omelette did not come with home fries. If you're okay with discrimination and workplace abuse, then this is just the place for you! (Sarcasm). Just left this restaurant and experienced work place abuse against the busser (a woman of color) and patrons (people of color) by the manager/business owner (an older Caucasian male with a ponytail and glasses). It was a very busy morning and the busser was overwhelmed with the amount of tables needed to be bussed. Two women of color walked in and tried to seat themselves since no one greeted them. The manager, a caucasian white male, rudely addressed the patrons for trying to seat themselves and proceeded to take his anger out on the busser in front of all customers! He said to her, very aggressively, "you need to do your job and get the tables done. You need to stop creating more work for me!" The woman didn't defend herself and looked like she wanted to cry. Even other customers complained about how he treated her and were baffled by the mistreatment. What kind of manager/owner treats their patrons and employees this way?! Pancakes were very tasty, loved the caramelized cinnamon crunchiness embedded in the fluffy pancakes. The short stack was an ample amount of food for me, was very satisfying. Service was also excellent. A great breakfast this morning at The Pantry in New Haven. It's a strong 4 Star rating. Sometimes a four star restaurant isn't always spot on , the pantry for my first time visit was horrible. Let's start off with the fact that they don't have a menu that suits all dietary needs. I would've rather had turkey bacon but the meats were all pork. The wait for our food after we ordered was literally 45mins to an hour. First of all when deciding to go to the Pantry you must be willing to do two things. One drive around the block several times looking for a parking space, and two wait in line to get in. We went on a rainy day thinking the line would be short, we were wrong. We were able to cut the line by grabbing two seats at the counter. We sat in front of the bar in sandwiched between two other tables. The service was slow but, efficient. There was a table that got their just before we did and the server told them to "be careful" because the plates were hot. My wife and I looked at each other and both said "heat lamps". It was a bit salty, but then again, most salmon brunch dishes tend to be. The home fries with scallions were good, as was the cantaloupe. I might come back here during a less busy time than a Sunday morning, but what is a brunch place if not some place you'd want to go to on a Sunday morning? The wait service was quite bad.
