Let me start with, I love bourbon! The Smoke Stack is THE best cocktail! The parlor offers many delicious choices of craft beers and had a delightful blueberry cream ale on tap. I also partook of the peach bourbon lemonade which was refreshing and a total palate pleaser! We accidentally found this place 4 years ago as the 11th stop of our pub crawl and I remembered we needed to come back every year during our annual trip. My experience here for the first time visit to traverse city was exceptional. Sam was my server, and I had an absolute blast. Our group had a round of unbelievable drinks, followed by pizza that ranks among our best ever. We ran into a small snag with a drink that I didn't quite like, and Sam replaces without hesitation with a drink that I will fantasize about for a while. The Parlor is a fantastic place for drinks - great energy, top notch mixologists with a creative cocktail menu, unique techniques and great happy hour prices. However, they've struggled with their food menu for a couple of years in spite of a few revamps. What used to be artisan pizzas are now a bland collection of store-bought crusts topped with scant ingredients. I haven't tried everything but what I have screams afterthought. AMAZING! We hosted our couples baby shower here, yes - at a bar! It was absolutely perfect! Having traveled in from out of state (both originally from TC) it was the ideal location for guys and gals to gather and celebrate. Everyone loved the atmosphere - it was so laid back and casual, the facility has rustic charm that really did not need any decorations, a plus when traveling. The food and staff were incredible! Everything was delicious and fresh, the mac-n-cheese and cheesecake bites were some of the favorites but every item we had was exceptional. This place might be good, but the two bartenders ignored our group for a solid 15 minutes while they chatted with friends and adjusted the amount of salt on a glass rim. We were in a bit of a hurry and didn't want to give our money to them, so we left. Very disappointing. read more

While the decor and ambiance may be appealing as a cocktail house the food and menu lack any certainty. I understand this is a small plates venue but as a native of the Detroit area which has now become a Mecca of tapas styled restaurants I can say this venue is not ideal for large groups. I had a most difficult time choosing appetizers for a group of 14... and eventually did not. Most items are similarly priced and there are no side salads to choose from! My food specifically was the crab cakes Benedict which was seared to a burnt crisp on the bottom. I was too hungry to exchange and the flavor, other than char coal, was pretty good. It was nice to provide my group with half off bottles of wine (Wednesday) but I did notice many of my guests were still hungry after their meal. One is drinking as he makes drinks, one is barely catching one table every 10 min, and one eating with friends sitting at the bar with him. I bumped into this place while trying to find the Big Toe Brewery on the ale trail. Big Toe no longer exists but the Parlor had a nice crowd. It is situated in what appears to be an old barn but there is a warm feel inside. Nice bar, some high tops with chairs and couches/ lounge chairs as well. I found The Parlor to be comfortable. The staff was friendly and eager to serve. The prices were a bit high though. The entertainment was unique. There was a piano player who gave the place a nice touch of atmosphere. On one wall was a projection of a silent movie with German subtitles?? Baseball game on the TV over the bar. A wide range of things to keep your interest. Standard beer selections. Started off by me walking in to a good vibe and ended in such a disappointment. Our group waited patiently for 15 mins without a single worker approaching. We kindly approached the bar to ask for a server, with no help. At this same time another large party walked in and was served 10 mins after they arrived, and we were still not serviced after waiting 45 mins. After asking one of the employees to send someone over for some help again, a worker rudely came over to the table and began to throw napkins across the table with frustration. We decided it was just not the atmosphere we wanted to be in so decided to politely get up due to the mistreatment. As we were walking out the same worker who threw the napkins, harassed us outside the door and began yelling at one of the people in the party with no apology. I have never witnessed such disrespect and mistreatment, especially in the beautiful city of traverse city. Terrible customer service. Walked in on a Monday night with six other people in the place. Sat at the bar for at least five minutes (?) while four employees chatted and laughed amongst themselves and never bothered to greet me or take my order. When I checked my phone, I had actually parked 13 minutes prior in the rear parking lot. When I complained to someone, one of the employees said, "He JUST sat down," which was BS and I said so. The manager, Sam, took my order and proceeded to berate me for my language instead of apologizing or taking any responsibility for the poor service. Combative. Argumentative. As a local, I have been taking out of town guests here for happy hour. Great drinks, interesting food, fairly priced. However, after last Monday's experience, I won't. We arrived about 8:30 pm to have a drink and eat dinner. Although there were few people present, we had to get up and find a servers every time we wanted to order. About 9, after finishing our drinks, we tried to order food, only to be told the kitchen closed at 9. We asked why she hadn't told us the kitchen was closing soon when we arrived. She admitted that they sent the cook home at 8 because they weren't busy. We were told we could order from the Rare Bird's menu as they are located in the same building. Our food arrived 90 minutes later, absolutely cold. When we politely complained that the food was cold the answer was simply that Rare Bird was slammed. More likely, we were forgotten once again and when we did ask where the food was, the server picked up the food which had likely been cooked an hour ago.
