This is a lovely little outdoor grill with a gift shop next door right on the northbound side of 101. Eating mostly pescatatian, I expected to get by with a fried fish or maybe grilled cheese. But I was delighted to find a tempeh Reuben on the menu, with a choice of Swiss or vegan. It was perfect. They have lots of seating, both covered and in the sun. They have a good loudspeaker for announcing when your order is ready so you don't have to stand close. They even have wifi. read more

Never don't stop at the peg house! This review isn't for their more expanded food options for lunch (they look great but I've never tried them) but for their breakfast options, specifically the burritos. For being reheated they're actually pretty tasty! My one request would be to have non-dairy options available. The store itself has basically anything you'd ever want inside, from souvenirs to toys to snacks and drinks! It's cozy but can get pretty busy when there are a lot of people passing through. The people working the counter are always friendly and helpful too. The bathrooms are located out back away from the store and can be pretty hit or miss on cleanliness, but more often than not they're totally fine - we pass through here yearly on our way to a festival, so I'm sure our experience is more of an outlier than the norm. read more

As so many have said, amazing burgers at their grill out back. The Brie with apricot jam burger was exceptional. Well cooked with fresh lettuce, bacon etc. On a ciabatta bun. Worth the calories! I'll also give props to the coleslaw, I'm not a coleslaw person and this is fresh vegetables with a delicious tangy sauce. If you park just past the store at the gift shop sign, there is a place to walk the dog and the bathrooms. There is an entrance to the back patio there. Solidly dog friendly as you can walk up and order then find a seat on the covered patio. The store has a little bit of everything, drinks, snacks, souvenirs, etc. Clean bathrooms, great food, friendly service and easily dog friendly make this a winner. read more

OMG!!!!! This place was fabulous. Was looking for a place to stop while traveling with 5 teenager. Saw their ad in a tourist magazine's ant thought why not. This place is awesome! This review is overdue. Every time I need to go through this area on my way to somewhere for work I make a point to stop for lunch. They have a great menu with regular American food and options like the vegan Tempeh sandwich with fabulous Sauerkraut. They make their own fresh lemonade which is delicious and today I tried their blackberry ice cream which is vanilla with mashed up blackberries all over it. Amazing! They also have a small gift shop that has amenities if you forgot them. The gift shop has coffee if you're going through early in the morning when the restaurant is not open. read more

Love the location for a stopover going from Humboldt to bay area, cool funky spot. But always understaffed and not particularly friendly. Sure, staff says hello but in a harried, 'I'm too busy' way. I know it's a funky chill place but could use a bit of professionalism anyway. Still, good spot to use the bathroom or get a snack. Just don't expect fast service, or genuine welcoming energy. There's a gift shop and cafe indoors, where we grabbed some coffee and chai. The grill is around the corner and offers a bunch of picnic tables for seating. Wow we used to LOVE stopping here every year we go camping, but it has gotten RIDICULOUSLY expensive. Absolutely insane! A chicken sandwich was 19 dollars and a burger is 17.50!!! Almost $18 for a gluten-free burger with miniature bread they charge $2.50 for the bread. It was soft. It wasn't toasted. The burger was semi raw. It was a vegan veggie burger. The peas were like still crunchy there was it was gross. it fell apart. My husband surprised me with a stop at the peg house on our way up north. I noticed looking that they had a lot of burgers. It had the name, but it really didn't describe what it was on there so I figured "how good could it be"? WOW was I wrong, I couldn't decide between two different burgers so I went with the lost Coast burger because I was basically going up to the lost coat. The burger was phenomenal, almost life changing. The flavor profile was amazing. Apparently the goat cheese comes from Sonoma and it has organic arugula, it is top notch. My husband ordered the Bigfoot burger, which he loved also. We loved this place so much. We didn't stopping back by on the way back home from our vacation trip at that time. I ordered the apricot Brie burger, which was delicious and I heard was a popular pick. My husband ended up ordering the sunset burger, which I believe they named it after the fact that they were in Sunset magazine previously for having some of the best burgers. After a fun afternoon at the Drive Thru Tree & walking around the Redwoods, we were starving! We did some research ahead of time and came to the Peg house for lunch. When you arrive, it will take you to a convenience store in the front but you need to go to the back to order. This is a burger/hot dog/sandwiches kind of place. I ordered the Classic Chicken Sandwich and my hubby choose the Cheeseburger. Outdoor dining all spaced out, plenty of places to sit and enjoy beautiful Leggit, CA which enjoying delicious burgers! The sandwich and burgers were delicious! Very flavorful (you can taste the bbq grill flavor) and the buns are soft. Even the mini slaw that was included was delicious and I normally am not a fan of slaw. I cant believe how delicious this was and very glad we stopped here for lunch. read more

Walk into the back area to the left of the store and there is outdoor seating where you can order food from the Peg House! Ordered the bbq oysters. They came out piping hot with a nice Cajun or old bay style seasoning with garlic butter! They were so delicious I wish my per dime budget would allow me to buy 3 dozen so I could get my fill. I stuck with a half dozen so I could comfortably make the long drive home. My coworker was more satisfied with his full dozen. I will definitely add Peg House as a mandatory stop. Went to visit the local side road attractions in the surrounding area. Confusion Hill, Chandelier drive thru tree, and world famous tree house (sadly closed and abandoned) We found this place for the nearest to eat at. I am so glad we stopped here. The smell is amazing and the food hit all the right spots. Delicious and the bread is impressive. Idk if they make the bread, themselves or what but I already want to go back. The lemonade is on point, refreshing and crisp. Not to mention, affordable. There was a problem with the bench I sat on, it had broken plastic parts from nails wearing through the material and my leggings got a cut from it. The bench had many spots like that. I should have said something, to give a heads-up, but it began to rain and we retreated to the car, and thought nothing of it. I love Peg House. We visited 3 times in 1 1/2 days. They use quality ingredients and they don't have to. You can tell when you eat the food. Lots of different choices for sandwiches and they have gluten free bread. These people have generosity of spirit. The gluten free bread is about 2/3 the size of the regular versions so they make 2 sandwiches to compensate. The watermelon is fresh and sweet and the broccoli cornslaw is excellent. BBQ oysters are perfect. Delicious blackberry ice cream. There is usually a band playing in the afternoons. The patio is large and shaded, dog friendly and a lovely garden grows on one side. Bathrooms are rustic but are kept very clean. The cooks and everyone working there are friendly and kind. read more

This place has such a great vibe, chill, relaxed, and comfortable. My husband and I stopped in on our travels to visit our son who lives near Trinidad. Everyone at The Peg House was friendly and talkative. I loved browsing through the general store where I purchased locally made black licorice, ot was fantastic! Outside at the dining area, the burger and veggie burger we ordered were delicious! There was live music on the stage, it was easy listening which was nice. I was approached by an employee and asked if I was Mrs. Ruffner, to which I answered "yes". turns out that the employee is good friends with our son, which only added more reasons to love this place.
