I wasn't sure about our server when he first came over, I thought he was grumpy or in the weeds. But, he was actually awesome!! The food was delicious, drinks were good. Comfortable setting enjoyed being able to see the kitchen staff at work from where we were sitting. I loved little touches like using old liquor bottles for table water. Hey hey, Chatham! This one is truly "As good as it gets". I've been visiting this cute little town for a few years now, but on my most recent visit for the July 4th weekend, my wife and I were walking down main street and noticed something had changed. We had planned to grab a drink and bite at Chatham Brewery, but were stopped in our tracks by a seemingly new** spot called The People's Pub. We ventured inside and were so happy that we did! ** Based on the few yelp reviews and the fact that the outside still looked very much like the old Welsh pub I assume that this place must have opened very recently. (Couldn't tell based on the staff/experience though) DRINK: Where did their beer list come from!? Hill Farmstead on Tap? Someone knows what they are doing here. We tried a pair of 4-cup samplers. It wasn't listed on the daily menu, but as soon as I started asking our server about the beer list, he suggested a sample. Good move! (Ask for it if you don't see it on the menu). Ended the evening with a "Bees Knees" gin cocktail. Superb. FOOD: OK - The plan was for a "quick bite". This is not what happened. We went a little nuts. Let's see... (everything was shared) Fresh Pasta with Pesto - Perfect texture, great as an app to share. The arugula pesto had just a bit of a kick to it. Duck "Steak" (local) - We shared this meaty dish. I was a little unsure about duck, but that was silly, duck is fantastic! Buttermilk Chicken Sandwich - As good as any I've ever had. Crispy, flavorful, HUGE. What made it was a side dip of local "scape aioli". I can taste it now... This could be a full meal on its own. Chicken wings - because we needed more chicken? Yes! ETC: Super cozy inside. Everything was beautiful (& I took a bunch of photos to prove it!) The open kitchen has a huge mosaic carrot on the wall and is staffed by smiling chefs & helpers. It was the delicious aroma that convinced us to stay for more than just a "quick drink." Love the open kitchen and would like to see more places embrace the approach. Nothing to hide & it's fun to watch the commotion. GREAT FOOD & DRINK + Sweet Staff + Reasonable Prices + Beautiful Location = Our favorite new spot in the area P.S. I'm glad that I don't need to break up with my favorite local breakfast spot, Our Daily Bread. For now, People's Pub is only serving dinner (& maybe brunch?). read more

When does your table order three different dishes you windup sharing because each was spectacular? When do you have live music that you can have a conversation with others at your table? When is the Peoples Pub. My first visit was tonight early with two friends .. one very picky and finicky (and somewhat difficult.). We had the chicken sand grilled, the royal burger medium rare (precisely served) The fried steak, pan fried not deep. The uniqueness about this experience was that the dishes were not unusual. Chick sand / burger / fried steak is not unusual but not common. What was unusual was how delicious and flavorful each was. It made for a uniquely enjoyable experience. We had a chocolate desert that I was to only taste but ate a fair bit. It was not overly sweet and had a bit of crunch. Etherial in my mind. In full disclosure one of our party made unreasonable objections to everything I have written. And voiced it to the kitchen. Then again, the exceptional nature of this establishment shown again with listening accommodation and understanding by the chief. The wait staff was efficient cordial and patient with our obstinate diner, but not matching the excellence of the kitchen. a definite return and recommendation. read more

I have heard sooo many good things about this place. I came here for a work dinner and it was extremely crowded. We ended up at a table very close to the kitchen. I thought it was cool that they have an open kitchen, but unfortunately for my coworkers, I would interrupt conversation to stare out at the kitchen staff and occasionally make conversation with them. I loved the bathroom. I know that's a weird thing to say, but it's true. However, I wasn't a huge fan of the food. It wasn't terrible, by any means, but it wasn't great. I guess I mean I expected more. The atmosphere was fantastic, but it seems like this is where they get their reviews from. Also, the drinks are fantastic, so that's good to note, too. The ingredients were of good quality, don't get me wrong. It's that the combination of the ingredients didn't taste super great. Maybe I got the wrong thing. It was my first time there, but I did try a few appetizers and I tasted my coworkers' meals as well. Maybe it just didn't meet my expectations because friends talked it up a lot. It's also very expensive. It's like, painfully expensive for the area. I heard that people from NYC came up here to open this restaurant. Gentrification aside, the pricing may be appropriate for the freshness of the ingredients or maybe just to take advantage of this strange hype... but this is Chatham. It's not yet the NYC-takeover that is Hudson. It is not NYC. I don't know. I prefer good food to bells and whistles. This would be a great place to take someone on a nice date though - definitely not first - and bring a fat wallet. read more

Going to eat at Peoples Pub always feels like visiting with great old friends...the food is ALWAYS great and the atmosphere could not be more relaxing and warm. I love sitting near the open kitchen and watching the kitchen folks function in a calm, flowing manner as they put out their masterpieces. Watching that synergy just adds to the unique friendly feeling. My new favorite place in Chatham! This place is perfect for a night out. It's the perfect balance of casual, artistic and tasteful. My husband and I went with a handful of friends last Saturday night and everyone had a great time. I had the freshly made pasta (linguine with some kind of tomato sauce) which was exceptional, and I don't even typically love pasta! You can taste how fresh it is. My husband has the burger topped with pork torchon which was super rich and amazing. We arrived on the around 6pm and sat right away, athough the crowd definitely picked up by the time we rolled out at 10pm after finishing dinner and sticking around for a few beers. I tried 2 new kinds of sour beer I'd never hear of before, and they were both very good and very different from each other. I loved the open kitchen - so cool to see all the action happening back there. The kitchen also has a beautiful mosaic carrot on the wall. Every detail is so perfect! read more

We've had dinner at the People's Pub many many times over the past 4-5 years. For a long time it was great....and then, the chef changed and for a while - at the beginning of the pandemic - it wasn't so great. Well, not sure who the chef is now...but it's once again terrific food. We've had two 'take-out' meals in the past two weeks that were superb. A truly great burger and fries, terrific brussel sprouts, the asian salad was awesome, and the thai curry was excellent. Every dish was well conceived, creative...and expertly executed. They're doing a tremendous job...under less than optimal circumstances. read more

This review is for the upstairs space, which is a quaint coffee shop! This was the only thing open before noon the day after Christmas and it was the perfect place for a nice cup of coffee on a chilly winter morning. The barista was very nice and played great music. She made our drinks quickly and was really knowledgeable about the different type of roasts they had available. Extremely cozy place with cute booths and cacti in vintage tea cups. Chef Adam and crew made me a believer! I walked in looked at the menu and was an immediate "I don't like" I'm not a picky eater but I don't care for pasta, wings or burgers. But boy was I impressed; fall of the bone wings with an amazing african inspired sauce, a homemade pasta made to perfection and an outstanding local beef hamburger. Yes! A winner in Chatham. Pork Buns and Chicken wings are on a whole new level. Buns are filled with a tender pork with pork fat and kimchee on a soft delicate bun. The flavors are amazing, the pork incredibly tender and flavorful. Chicken wings were huge and the sauce was rich with the essence of fresh lime. The side sauce was tasty but we didn't use it as the wings were so incredibly good on their own. The curried vegetable main course was amazing as well. Rich and full flavored with incredibly fresh seasonal vegetables that carried their own rich flavor. Everything was beautifully presented. Fabulous beer list, and the Manhattan to country cocktail was outstanding. Can NOT wait to go back to try other offerings. The burger looked spectacular. Everything came out fresh and hot. The kitchen and wait staff, bar and front of the house have it together! and it shows. Table Service was spot on - efficient and friendly. How to describe this unassuming gem of a restaurant? Awesome food, comfortable atmosphere, attentive staff, farm to table menu with rock solid consistency. And that's just a start. Like all farm to tables, the menu changes frequently but the staff seems to love the challenges that presents. Sitting near the kitchen I got to hear the head chef speak to his staff with enthusiasm and respect. Want a burger? You will not see them pull a pre-formed patty from the fridge. Nope. They're hand made to order. Pickles on your burger? Those were made by the chef a few days ago. Coffee? No carafe of old coffee here. Rather you get individual pots of fresh French press. A problematic, yet ultimately satisfying visit. Stopped in on a super busy Friday evening, and scored 4 bar seats by the cooks. (Damn, they work hard and in synchronized motion). Started with tasty cocktails (and at $10-11 very reasonably priced). Delicious Caesar Salad arrived promptly. The Grilled Corn was a disappointment. Caprese Salad never came. Fortunately, thanks to being seated at the bar, our intervention stopped the hardworking chefs from preparing the wrong pasta dishes for us (tomato allergy). The Pasta Special (mushrooms, leeks, prosciutto) was quite satisfying. Our apologetic server made amends by comping a couple drinks. (Very appreciated) And we made our PS21 show in time. Amazing. We sat at the chefs table where we were dazzled with this and thats. From the start to finish we were pleased. The wings the duck the steak the peach pear and plum tart. Yes yes yes. Sooo full and satisfied. We will not be waiting long to come back. The waitstaff was great attentive but not annoying tge chef knowledgeable but not full of himself. Had a great experience here in 2017 right after they first opened - and was very fortunate to have my sister suggest this spot for takeout and was blown away! We enjoyed Schnitzel, the salmon with hoisin mango fried rice, Asian noodle salad, sriracha Brussels sprouts and the steak tacos. I don't necessarily have the best luck with eating tacos as to-go food and am happy to report they were my favorite item ordered- fresh, tender etc. Couldn't ask for anything better! A very nice bar atmosphere with splendid service and a good view of a kitchen that exudes passion for food. I had the tofu, cauliflower curry, and was surprised by how full I felt afterwards. Of course, maybe the excellent local beer helped. The earl gray cream brûlée was incredible. Awesome, just awesome. We had a group of ~18 staying in the Chatam area for a cozy bachelorette weekend, and we chose The People's Pub for a nice group dinner. I spoke with Angus the whole time, and he helped me reserve the private upstairs space (which is a coffee shop during the day!). He was so flexible and worked with us on creating a delicious price fixe menu and separate drink tabs. He didn't get annoyed at all when I emailed him for the umpteenth time about changes, either. Our waitress, Katie, was great as well. She let us put on our own music and did a great job wrangling everyone for dinner orders, and was quick with everyones drinks too! They were even totally cool when we had a little dance party towards the end of the night! It was honestly the most seamless party planning experience ever. And the food!!! Everyone raved about how delicious everything was, especially the short ribs, roasted chicken, pappardelle, and chocolate tart. The bride, and all of us, had such an awesome, delicious time, and it really was a great way to end such a fun weekend. I fell in love with this place, service, people, decor..it has a very homey atmosphere with amazing food. We shared crispy chicken wings, cold soup - cucumber yogurt gazpacho - the best gazpacho I have ever tried, pork sliders and cucumber salad. When my entry arrived, I was already full from the apps, however it didn't stop me from eating the duck dish entree. Oh my!!! If you ever wondered what the good duck dish is, try this and you will never regret or forget! The meat was so tender and juicy, that I could not stop eating it. The service was great, from the beginning to the end. I loved the concept of open kitchen as well. You can watch the chef cooking your meal, like watching your mama cooking at home. They charge for bread and do not notify of same in advance. $1 for 4 thin slices of baguette. This is how they hope to improve their profit margin? Generosity is a mark of a good restaurant, imo. And the food takes forever to get to table, even on a night when the place is half empty I'll be going back to the Chatham Grill down the street. read more
