We've visited a few times since. I love the open kitchen, and the food has been excellent each time. A local highlight.

And she was right, as I enjoyed the best buttermilk fried chicken sandwich ever (it's true, ever). RIP; Sadly (tear) another low key Upstate NY classic is gone; now "fashion food" & cliche renovation. Needed a scrub down, menu additions and marketing plan. What we got was another "branded" Willamsburg Brooklyn restaurant, UGH! No booths, just crowded tables, Edison bulbs (again!!), open kitchen (surprise!), noise, smoke (cough!!-WHAT DID YOU SAY?!) and a host to seat you, REALLY! Expensive beer, food and pretense. All this actually is no SO bad (they kept the old bar, CHEERS!)...but the suggested tip "selection" (w/ math calculated for you) of 10, 25 or 30% is just too much to digest - REALLY!) Disappointing experience. Sign in entry offered bottles of wine for 1/2 price- no time limit shown. Ordered bottle chardonnay which was normally $8/glass or $40/bottle. We ended up being charged $40 for the bottle. Had I known this we would have ordered four glasses and saved $8.00. No big deal, but annoying. As we left I noted the 1/2 price wine bottle sign had been taken down. We mentioned the discrepancy to the hostess who responded "sorry", but offered no adjustment on bill. As to the service, our server lacked training. She took my wine order then left without asking if anyone else wanted a different drink. She returned with a bottle, but no glasses. She'd obviously not opened too many wine bottles. After about five minutes she did manage to remove the cork. These things I could forgive as they have just recently opened. Why the Hudson Chatham Winery chardonnay was priced at $40/bottle or $32/4 glasses is just annoying. There was some difference noted on the menu - something about bottles versus draft. It's basically the same wine on this end of the quality scale. What we found lacking was the menu which offered only Kale or a pesto pasta as vegetarian options. At the request of the vegetarians at the table, we went down the street to Destino's to have our dinner. read more

Everyone raves about this place, but my one experience there wouldn't make me rush back, I must admit. Be prepared for a noisy and crowded type of dining experience, which I kind of like..but it was actually on the loud side, even for me ! Wooden floors, an open kitchen, an active bar, and a very narrow space equal limited and very close seating ! We actually sat on a love seat, using the fireplace hearth as our table, which was really fun ! The menu is small, and the only vegetarian option for me was just delicious. The problem is that the servings are very small. I actually ordered dessert because I was still HUNGRY ! That's a first ! The dessert was truly awful. It was billed as a trifle with fresh berries. What came out was a mason jar, obviously pre made and kept refrigerated,, filled with this odd sort of solid vanilla stuff (think kind of stiff cheesecake ?) layered with oatmeal, and on it were three (?!) elderly blueberries on a toothpick, laid horizontally across the top !!! This most certainly was NOT "trifle ", but it wasn't even very tasty. I'm a dessert hound, but even I couldn't eat much. Anyway, it's on the pricey side, it's on the noisy side, it can be hard to get into, because lots of folks absolutely love it ! So...take what I say with a grain of salt..maybe YOU will also love it ! read more

Do not take the kids.3 times to get a burger correct. Food came out 3 different times for a table of 9. Take note we only ordered burgers. No kid menu and in no way good for them. Should not be calling it pub food. To hipster for an everyday family outing. read more

This is our fourth time visiting around the Hudson Valley, Chatham region. We like to visit this area mostly because of the organic markets, farms & produce. We found this spot, apparently it just opened, a couple of nights ago. What a find! Apparently this family run restaurant/Pub uses majority local organic produce. Some of it they grow themselves. The menu is simple fresh & well balanced. Our favorite was the local Muscovy duck, sliced over sautéed Swiss chard...Really out of this world. Loved the tree trunk serving platters & beer tasting sampler trays. Nice touch! All around...Very special, unique, homemade, home grown experience. read more

Love this new pub in Chatham! Huge glasses of wine poured for on tap wine - FANTASTIC duck tacos, and bar menu overall. We had the delicious pork buns made with pickled vegetables and they were the best we've had in the area. The burger is top notch, and the homemade pasta was freshly made when we had it and was incredible. It was made with locally grown arugula pesto and we did wait a bit because the fettuccine was being made on the spot. The wings and dip for the wings are killer. It is a relaxed ambience but so much care shows in the details that it is also quite polished making it either a great night at the pub, lots of fun, or a beautiful date night locale. My wife and I went here last Saturday evening. Food was good but was surprised at menu options - very few. Didn't realize everything was locally sourced and their menu changed very frequently. Had hoped to have their fried green tomatoes and duck confit - neither were available. Settled on the charcuterie platter and burger. Disappointed by platter - very small for splitting (4 very thin slices of salami, a little blue cheese and some other hard cheese like a manchego), but great pesto. Great food with ever-changing menu! Venue has limited seating for dinner, but fanstatic bar serves as a good distraction until a table is available. If you get the opportunity, sit at the counter and watch food being prepared. read more

The service is usually pretty on key. HOWEVER, if you are there after about 10pm, the crowd that they draw in is very sketchy. If you enjoy going out seeing girls make out on the bar, couples go into to the only bathroom and disappear for about 15 minutes, and multiple customers disappear into the upstairs section only to come out looking stung out, then this is the place for you. Like I said I love the bartenders and it's one of the few bars to go to late at night, I just wish they would try and control the environment a little bit, it can get SUPER sketchy!! read more

I went to the peoples pub in Chatham for dinner tonight. The staff was well organized and welcoming. The food was well made and tasted amazing. It is always nice to see good local produce incorporated into the food menu. The beer list is also impressive. There are not many places in the area where you can get as many quality craft beers as at the peoples pub. Great work in the peoples pub. I recommend people to try their food and drinks. The peoples pub is something truly amazing. It's one of the only places within 87.9 miles (yes I've done that much research) of itself that serves one of the greatest beers ever icy cold on tap. I'm talking of course about Utica Club. Sure the peoples pub food is great, their wings are unique and their house cut French fries are fantastic but nothing beats going up to Billy at the bar and ordering a Utica Club. When a Utica Club is ordered icy cold fresh on the tap, Billy runs over to this big bell and rings it. When this happens the entire bar holds their glasses up and yell at the top of their lungs "ITS A UC FOR ME! WELCOME TO THE CLUB!". This makes for such a warming and inviting atmosphere that I've never seen replicated anywhere else. If you haven't tried the peoples pub I'd suggest anything on their menu as the food is great but make sure you wash it down with an ice cold Utica Club. read more

Had the special burger here one night and it was so good it was sort of obscene. I stopped eating meat a long time ago and started again, tentatively, when local farms started producing their own beef and pork. This place is cheery and fun. I always have a good time here. read more

This is a review of the new upstairs coffee house they opened at the same location as the downstairs pub. Great coffee, great WIFI and an unusual Irish pub decor to go with the espresso machine. Quick and friendly service and a 7 am opening makes a great morning hangout. Pastry may follow in the future as business picks up. read more

Delicious, adorable - what a great surprise! We ate early - it's super noisy as it starts to fill up - decibel level goes through the the roof - however the Muscovy duck was some of the best I've had - fascinating avocado gazpacho and a yummy cheese board charcuterie for our dessert. I have returned to People's Pub and in keeping with their name, they listened and have added fish as a selection. Tonight it was seared scallops on a spectacular risotto. The dish was a knock out. Excellent first experience at the People's Pub. Really solid beer list, comparable to many of the beer bar's in the Albany area. I only drank Hill Farmstead Edward while I was there but the draft list included beers from Grimm, LIC and many other great breweries. The food was really fantastic, pork bun's were insanely good and the chicken on my salad was cooked about as good you can do it...super juicy, not dry. I will definitely be making another visit to try some of the other items on the menu. Only negative...it was really warm in there...but I am sure they will correct that. We had dinner here last night, and we are likely not to go back. I had a kale salad that was like eating chopped up thistle weed. When eating raw kale, it is essential you massage these course greens to "tenderize" them. The dressing on the salad, however, was quite good. My hamburger was not moist and tender as I would have expected for the price, but very dry to the point I didn't eat it. The triple cooked french fries should have been cooked only twice, as they, too, were dried out. My burger was served on a wooden slab that was too small, and I wasn't thrilled with my meat served on wood in the first place. Not sure if they sanitize these slabs or not... The menu was very limited, and hard to interpret - so much so that we had to use google just to let us know what we might be eating. The music was so loud that we couldn't hear ourselves think, nor could we hear the waitress when she finally came over to wait on us and explain what certain items on the menu were. The bucket containing water to clean the tables was situated on the floor 4' away from our table and the wait staff kept bending down to wring out the cloth inside to clean the tables. Not once was the water changed. This was a total turn-off! I never saw such a setup! All was not lost - however... my husband thoroughly enjoyed his duck. read more

My friend and I stumbled across The People's Pub tonight. A beautifully simple restaurant in this sweet downtown was a perfect way to spend our Sunday night. We were able to order the "Flights and Bites" with four delicious courses and perfectly paired wine, beer, and cocktails. Portions were plenty and the food was amazing. We shared a dessert which was a great portion and did I mention, delicious?! Everything about this place was spot on. Thank you for sharing the love and making our bellies full and happy. Had great food the first time, but the service was extremely slow. Highly recommend the duck and generous glasses of wine. The second time, I called to see if they would take a reservation for a party of five. I was cheerfully told they would. When I arrived the hostess was very dismissive and told me they were always first come first serve. Only reluctantly apologized and acted very put out. Turns out the restaurant was pretty empty because of the Columbia County Fair. They managed to accommodate us. Food is good, but the hostess needs some customer service training. read more

Went upstate to camp for a few days and on our way back to the city we stopped by for lunch and drinks at this magnificent spot. I cant repeat enough times how amazing this place is. I love wings and it is my absolutely favorite meal ever, the wings at People's Pub stole my heart. We also ordered burgers, shared gazpacho and fried green tomato salad as appetizers. All of the food was absolutely amazing. Everything about this new spot just made me want to come back. Food, drinks (Nitro Porter is my new favorite beer in the world), friendly and very professional staff, the inside and outside look are very welcoming. I particularly loved the décor of the place and the fireplace by one of the walls. Wish it was colder outside just to see the fireplace in action. Open kitchen with fresh mint, basil and dill on the side gave this place a very home like atmosphere. Local flowers on all the tables and calm music on the background was the icing on the cake. This trip was great but after visiting People's Pub it was upgraded to fantastic. Will definitely come back on our next trip and would recommend it to everyone in the area and anyone who visits Chatham. read more

Updated review: I would suggest arriving earlier than later. Every time I've been here, they are always sold out of what I wanted to order. (Odd to be sold out of steak that's always on the menu on a Friday night?). There is also a very limited wine menu - particularly those that can be ordered by the glass. Really great addition to the Chatham area! The space offers a nice atmosphere, with a wonderful open kitchen where you can sit at a bar and watch the chefs work their magic. They offer a pretty decent selection of wines and cocktails, and a very extensive beer list. We started our meal off with the chicken wings and they were delicious. Piping hot and a really nice flavor. I asked the waitress for a dinner recommendation and she said that the burger was the most popular item, but mostly due to the fact that people stick with what they know. I ended up ordering the steak, while my boyfriend ordered the pork. The steak was served with a corn salad and a grilled leek, which was really delicious. In fact, I could eat that every day. My boyfriend was deciding between the duck and the pork, and eventually went with the pork. Unfortunately he did not care for his meal- it was basically a few breaded round pieces of pork, that were either baked or fried, and then placed on top of bread. I felt bad because I think he would have liked any other dish on the menu. We ended the meal with the berry custard which was fantastic! We will definitely be back! read more

This place was overall terrible. There is an open kitchen, which we were seated near, and it was hot and smelly. The wine was way overpriced, and the beer is expensive as well. Only one quality lighter beer on the list, Utica Club, which is excellent. The menu is very limited, and again was too pricey. I do not like grassy beef or range free chickens, and will not pay over 12 bucks for pasta. There was nothing of quality for the vegetarian in our party, either. The place was very noisy. If in Chatham go to Destinos, or try one of the 4 places in Philmont for a better experience. read more

This place is the epitome of gentrification!! A lot of locals used to enjoy this place when it was the previous Pub. I know, I used to be one of those locals. But, who now can afford an $8, 12 oz. can of beer?! It's a shame what this place has become and if they don't adjust the pricing so that the local populace can enjoy this place, then the People's Pub won't last long here.
