Sadly, just 2 stars. Staff was great! Friendly and attentive! The food on the other hand, was a huge disappointment. My wife and I stopped here after going to the festival on Division. The place seemed slightly fancy and was crowded. We thought it must be good. My wife tried a few appetizers. Their deviled eggs, cornbread, & Jerk shrimp. I had their ribs. So my wife's food. The cornbread was good. She said the eggs were alright. The shrimp was not good. Tasted nothing like a Jerk seasoning. It had more of an Indian spice to it. My food was just bad. The ribs may separate pretty easy from the bone; but they had a bit too much of a char / burnt taste. Chewy in some parts as well. Overall, if the ribs aren't better than Portillos ribs I am not satisfied paying that much. But, it gets worse. The fries were undercooked and were just bad. A frozen store brand made at home would be better. And yes, it gets worse. The coleslaw... oh the coleslaw... How on earth did this get approved and put on the menu? It is so bad. There is zero flavor, zero seasoning. Well no, it does have flavor; it tastes like you are licking a burnt grill. I really don't understand how these made it into their final meals. I saw a lot of other tables with salads. Maybe they are locals and know what to order. I'd say pass on this place, try somewhere else. read more

Patronized this establishment yesterday during westown restaurant week. Sat at the bar, it was busy. Wicker Park, Friday, nice weather equates busy. So... at the bar got the menu, first time there. The bartender, a woman short w/ nice tattoos, have me a quick run down of the beers. I told her, i was wanting a cocktail but needed food first. She understood, came back in a beat, and took my order. She never checked on me in terms of the cocktail. Fast forward... I'm eating, the food is good. I got the salmon w/broccoli rabe. As I'm eating midday through my meal. There's a hair as I'm cutting into my salmon, i see it. It was disheartening cause this food was good, and cooked perfectly! I don't feel it was a cleanliness issue overall, now like a hustle & bustle cause it could have been on the plate prior to plating and went unnoticed. So, i let the aforementioned bartender know what's up. She came back and said, "They're making you a new one," I replied. "I don't need another one." She now asked, " You don't want another one?" I stated I was full... so then she says, " Well, what do you want?!" Her energy changed to irritation (rudeness), and it was due to the business, but that's not my problem, and it isn't helpful. My intention wasn't to escalate the issue, I'd assumed from my years of experience (Hospitality & Spa Wellness industry) that some things don't have to escalate and of they do, not in a derogatory space; but here we are. Manager Sergio comes over and apologizes and explains that he don't know how to prorate the pre-fixe menu cause it's pre-fixed which I get. I told him about the exc with the bartender and he made excuses that it was busy, which I'd already given that grace. I had the small app course, and my meal had the hair, and 3rd course, dessert was included. So, I'm talking to him and letting him know, I didn't want another meal, I'm full but, i also wanted to work with them and didn't want to cause any inconvenience (it was busy as hell, in there and again in in service so i get it) i offered to pay for my 2 shrimp....i didn't get the cocktail cause the bartender never came back until i asked for assistance with the hair in my food. In talking to the manager we agreed that I'd take a new main course home (cause that was easier for them cause of the pre-fixe) as well as the dessert and he offered me the(complimentary) cocktail i wanted to try, i was torn between 2 and told him whomever made it can surprise me with either. The original bartender made it, dropped it off, didn't look at me etc... childish. I paid, tipped & left. I've been here twice, both excellent experiences. First time was mid-week with a group of 6. They sat us to the side and surprisingly weren't crowded so we could hear each other just fine. They have a really cool table in the beer vat room (not sure what it's called) that looks really cool, maybe you can request that. All of us loved our food. The French dip was a highlight, the salads were great, Wrightwood Salad was wonderful, and cheese curds for an appetizer were devilishly good. It seems extremely kid friendly here, the outdoor seating is really nice, they allow dogs outside, and other nice looking restaurants surrounding this one but The Perch is always the most crowded. read more

Love the environment there! They have an indoor, semi-outdoor, and outdoor space. Dog-friendly and they even have special popsicles for pups! I highly recommend trying their croquettes- omg I cannot even express how good they are. I got the cauliflower steak on our most recent visit and it was very good - it's a large portion so I had to take some home. Their cocktails are great and they have a bunch of tasty menu options. Went on a Sunday, a little busy but we had a reservation. Severs and staff were very nice. Allowed us to move tables without question. I got the shrimp and spinach dip. Both very good. When summer was back on we wanted to bar hop have some drinks with great atmosphere and snack on things Firstly perch inside and especially their back outdoor area is superb and sooo cute Okay soo when I found out they did cheese curds??? I've always walked past the perch and admired their aesthetics but was super excited to try them out recently. I started off with a beer that tasted like s'mores, followed by lobster deviled eggs, short ribs and then a cobbler for dessert. My favorite bite of the night was definitely the steak- the combination with the salad was amazing. The deviled eggs were ok, guess I was expecting more of a punch with lobster. I came here for an alumni event. The service was really good and I thought the beers were the standout, but the food didn't blow me away. It was good, but didn't really stand out from any other bistro. Our group ordered cheese curds which were decent. I had the burger and a side salad. Excellent food. Been there twice for brunch with family and friends. Well made food. Great tasting great quick service. Pretty. Clean. Well decorated. Clean restrooms. Is not an uppity "gourmet" restaurant but all is nicely presented. We tried the cornbread - to die for. The cinnamon rolls. Prime rib hash, chorizo tostadas, filet sliders, omelets. We came to The Perch for their weekend brunch. The space inside was super cool with the ambience of a brewery combined with a trendy eatery. We ordered the breakfast platter and the quiche. The breakfast platter was quite standard, nothing too flashy here. I really enjoyed the quiche and only wish it was larger. I was a little surprised to see so much salad, but it turned out to be delicious, so it was a pleasant surprise. Since we were too full after the meal but still wanted to try a cinnamon roll, we grabbed one to go. It was HUGE! However, it did not taste as good as it looked... A cool spot for brunch or dinner with almost too many good options to choose from (especially the Wrightwood Salad). I came here for dinner the first time on a weeknight, and it was pretty empty--we got seated in a booth basically right away. We considered pretty much every single side / appetizer on the menu, and ended up ordering Croquettes, Spinach Dip, Skillet Cornbread, and the Wrightwood Salad. The Croquettes are a delicious fried potato ball--warm, flavorful, and only $6. Highly recommend. The Cornbread was solid, though maybe not spectacular. It was cornbread. Warm, good, but not remarkable. The Spinach Dip was dense and flavorful, maybe not elite, but if you like a spinach dip, you'll like this one. I'm not a big salad guy generally, but the Wrightwood Salad was shockingly good. It uses a rotisserie chicken (you can see them roasting a bunch near the kitchen), but it was just extremely refreshing and delicious, to the point that we declared we had to go back to have it again. So a week later, we did, this time for brunch. It was much more crowded--we made a reservation, and both the inside and outside were basically full. In addition to the Wrightwood Salad, we got the Cinnamon Roll skillet and the Eggs Benedict. The Cinnamon Roll skillet, much like the cornbread, was good but not great. It kind of just tasted like a big thing of bread. In a skillet. With some cream cheese on the top. It certainly wasn't bad, but it was not a Cinnamon Roll I'll be writing home about. Just writing on Yelp about it. The Eggs Benedict were solid--the bacon on them was thick and flavorful. Would recommend. Overall, a great spot. We had lunch here this past weekend. It seemed like a cool place in a cool area, right on the main street there. I ordered a flight of beers and a fish sandwich. For my flight, I got 4 small beers; the beers are not made by the Perch, they're made by a regular brewery they must have a partnership with. They were good, except for the root beer infused porter. My fish sandwich was also very good. Great texture and flavor as well as sauce, with just the right amount of toppings. I also got a side salad. My wife had the same and we both enjoyed our sandwiches. We ended up getting and splitting a slice of peanut butter pie for dessert, which was amazing and larger than I expected. The service was good and it was nice to eat outside on a sunny day. The only down side is that our fairly simple lunch was $80, and I dont think that included the tip. I guess the drinks did us in. All in all though, it was good and I would eat here again. read more

Amazing Mahi sandwhich! Tastes like chicken lol. The fish has a really good char to it without being dry. I loved the long pickles and the sauce . Not sure if was the oil from the fish or if there's two sauces but there is also some runny sauce on it that's good and overall prevents it from being a dry sandwhich. And the toppings give it a very fresh feeling. Fries are very crispy and golden and have a little potatoe skin on them that I like. The sandwhiches are more reasonably priced than the rest of the menu. Service was fast and attentive. read more

I tried this place with my brother last weekend and it blew me away ‍ @theperchchicago in Wicker Park, Chicago is the perfect place for a summer brunch or dinner. They have two patio options (one in the back with beautiful ivy walls and more secluded and one in the sidewalk for great people watching)! I cannot recommend this place enough for the service, the cocktails (they also have an on-site brewery and the fooood! ' To start I got the "Random Acts of Flyness" and someone on Yelp called this Chicagos best summer cocktail and I kind of have to agree? Tequila based with aeporal, ginger beer and lime it's like a Moscow mules better cousin. Then for apps we split the skillet cornbread and the croquettes. This cornbread was melt in your mouth with honey butter and actual corn kernels I was in love. I am not usually a croquettes person, but the paprika aioli sold me!! For mains, I got the wrightwood salad without nuts and it was SO GOOD! House roasted rotisserie chicken, goat cheese, CORNBREAD CROUTONS NEED I SAY MORE??? I said I was going to recreate it and I plan to ' ' Allergy Score: this place scores highly for me in terms of allergies. I ordered a salad with nuts and they were able to accommodate my allergy perfectly with no issues. They had several vegetarian and vegan options (even a cauliflower steak and a roasted cauliflower platter I almost got). As for GF, they are very accommodating and my dad who has celiac has had no issues here! Overall? I will be back for brunch and would recommend it to anyone in the Wicker Park area this summer! First of all - what a cute patio! This street in Wicker is a great date night spot. The Perch has a beautiful patio as well as a very aesthetic interior. Service is quick and very friendly - we were quickly seated outside. We got the calypso shrimp as an app - loved this! Very flavorful. For entree, I got the grilled sausage plate. I loved the sauce, although the rest of the dish is just alright. For drinks, we ordered the sangria which was great! We go every Friday for lunch. Today, my wife got her usual Seared Tuna Salad and I got my semi-usual Mahi Mahi sandwich. The tuna was raw and unable to even cut with a knife. They ordered her a new one and the tuna was so overcooked it was like leather. The mahi mahi is usually tender and flaky. Today it was pressed, overcooked and tough. A few of my girlfriends and I went to the Perch for breakfast and we love love loved it! We placed an online reservation for a 1pm Saturday table. It was starting to get crowded from the brunch rush once we arrived. To be secluded area, we requested the heated outdoor option. It was a rainy 45-50 degree day, but that patio was TOASTY! At one point we had to request for them to turn the heaters down. So if you are seated out there don't fret it is more than warm enough. They have a pretty diverse brunch menu which was appreciated. One of my friends is vegan and they were able to mix a bit of the brunch and dinner menu to ensure she had a nice vegan meal which was so so extremely appreciated, and nice of the staff at The Perch to accommodate for us. For starters we ordered the croquettes (aside from our vegan friend, these unfortunately are not vegan). Omg I can see why these are a menu highlight. With a nice fried crisp, after you bite in the potatoes nearly melt in your mouth leaving you with flavors of bacon, chives, and the spiced topping. If you get anything, get these you won't regret. For my entree, I kept it simple and ordered the '2 Eggs Your Way' basic but worthhh it! Who knew eggs, toast, and bacon and potatoes could be so yummy. The highlight were the potatoes, their hash browns have great flavor, a nice crisp and have a cream cheese type of mix in it??? I don't know how to describe it which means go ahead and try it for yourself. Recommend. Of course we had mimosas the entire brunch for a good time. They do no have a bottomless option, but they have a bottle for $40 with juice options which did great for us. Our server was absolutely the sweetest, I wish I remembered her name. Vibes are immaculate! Located in a really cool part of Division, my friends and I stopped here for dinner and drinks during a Friday night out and were seated in the relatively new outdoor dining area. We ended up ordering a bottle of red for the table as well as cocktails, all of which were great! We ended up chatting with the server who was such a gem and told us about how the outdoor area has all sorts of locally sourced art strewn throughout including a giant bust of a woman's head which is super gorgeous and actually ended up on my Instagram. It honestly felt like having dinner in an art gallery. I ordered the turkey burger with mashed potatoes and both were seasoned to perfection, the potatoes a little peppery, which I loved, and the burger was cooked well. Turkey burgers are tricky to do right, but The Perch does. Pricing is super fair, and I'm keen to return for lunch/brunch situation. read more

Are you ready for a review dedicated to carrots? Just kidding, kind of. I took my family to The Perch and a few things blew us away: the beer, the cheese curds, the cornbread, and the carrots. The Perch shines with its grilled food. I'd suggest being adventurous, as we found their burger/sandwiches less exciting than their vegetables and appetizers. I LOVE when restaurants make veggies exciting. Their carrots are grilled until tender and crispy, then paired with a smoky yogurt sauce. Our table fought over these carrots. Accidentally found The Perch as a friend and I were walking around waiting on our lunch reservations at a restaurant down the street. We saw the garden seating area and had to see what was going on inside. Right when we opened the door we were greeted with the beautiful yeasty aroma of beer brewing and decided we had to stay and try some beer. I tried their Raku IPA and my friend tried the Benliner (to which they can add raspberry syrup to and it is DELICIOUS). TBH both beers were very good. I love. A good IPA, but I could drink the raspberry Benliner alllll day. The raspberry really makes it springy and refreshing - I can't wait to come back and try the delicious looking food since I already know the drink situation is on point. This a great casual spot to check out for delicious food and drinks. You can make reservations ahead of time, but my husband and I have done walk in's with no problem. I love their appetizers. The skillet cornbread is really addictive. The lobster deviled eggs are really good as well. I also have liked their ahi tuna salad, salmon, and sausage plate. They brew their own beer, so you definitely want to check those out. If you aren't into beers, they also have a selection of other beverages that you can try.
