I moved from Kapolei to Town a year ago and planned to keep my vet in Kapolei, but things didn't work out with the distance. Like the saying goes, everything happens for a reason. The team at The Pet Clinic has so much aloha and I really wish I found them sooner! The ladies always greets us with a smile and by now they know to cover Frosty (their Cockatoo in the wait area) when I come with my two year old who gets scared of her squawks. I've never waited longer than 10 mins to get into a room. Dr. Harada is the BEST! He makes the visit comfortable and genuinely cares not only about your pet, but you and your family as well. The team as a whole does. Communication is impeccable and I've never felt rushed or afraid to ask a question. They have very accommodating hours. This review is long overdue. We were recommended The Pet Clinic from a friend and so glad we decided to trust our care of our pup with them. Been taking our dog to the Pet Clinic for seven years and they've helped with numerous issues on our beagle such as joint issues, gum and teeth issues, skin rash issues, etc. We also use them for boarding as it is affordable and they are able to perform all necessary exams while he's there. It's been a few years since I've been to this clinic, and I was so relieved to see that only Dr. Scott seems to be there now. He is knowledgeable and kind. Dr. Craig doesn't seem to be with the clinic anymore, which I'm unfortunately very happy about. He wouldn't bother to hide his irritation with my dog during examinations, and his communication was so terrible that he didn't even explain to me that he was going to cut off part of my dog's tail after the fur got ripped off in an accident. No after-care explanation, either -- he just slapped a bandage on it and sent the poor dog home with me without a cone, so my dog chewed on the bandage and splattered blood all over. He just didn't seem to enjoy working with animals, or care for them very much. read more

I was searching for a vet to bring my munchkin Persian cat. I am so glad I came across the Pet Clinic. Everyone here was spectacular. From my correspondence with Christine to seeing Dr.Scott Harada and his nurse (I'm sorry I didn't catch her name!), I felt so comfortable. It's the staff. They are so good with the fur babies. One of our dogs, who we adopted was a patient here and they took care of his neutering and baby teeth and he got through it great. The doc explained everything so throughly pre and post surgery. We also liked them so much we trusted them with our other girl and transferred her over to their care. They were great with her too. They facilitated transfer of records from the previous vet clinic and saw her for an bump (which turned out to be nothing). She loved them too. read more

My "kid"- MAKANA got sick last week as I thought he had injured his leg while my dad took him to the park to play fetch. Upon coming home, and I was about to feed him, he kept on licking his rear left leg. When I tried to see what was up, he kept avoiding me, and wouldn't let me touch his rear left leg. From there, I'd knew something was wrong..........who do you call for help? Dr. Scott Harada of THE PET CLINIC! :) Dr. Scott is my GOD, as he cared for my previous Golden Retriever - GOLDIE. She lived to a ripe old age of 14, before she crossed the Rainbow Bridge. When Goldie was around 7 or 8, she had gotten real sick & needed a major operation. If it was not for Dr. Scott, I would have lost Goldie at an early age, but due to Dr. Scott's knowledge, skills, & compassion he was able to bring Goldie back to us. When it was Goldie's time.........Dr. Scott also helped her cross through the Rainbow Bridge. As for Makana, he is on this way to a quick recovery! Dr. Scott diagnosed him quickly & accurately. Gave him a shot, and the proper meds. to assist Makana in recovering from his infection (no he did not break his leg). I just wanted to put my two cents in. I been going to the clinic to buy my cats food for over a year now and I've always been very happy with the service there. All the girls are very helpful and nice. I went in a couple days ago to buy food (my cat requires a prescription diet) there a new older lady, short hair there who seemed more interested in talking to the other girls then acknowledging clients. After standing there for a few min. she rang me up i just asked a simple question and I got the "i just help them out" answer. I left there feeling unsatisfied for the first time. I'm pretty sure other people in the room felt the same way. I hope their normal staff is there the next time or I might not come back. read more

Aloha Yelpers, I don't review often, but this place deserves to be written up and not in the good way. Our family parakeet, Stitch, died while on routine exam here. I don't believe our case was handled with the professionalism we all expect and deserve from our vets. Now the details... My mother is undergoing chemotherapy. We've had our relatives baby sit our parakeets, Lilo and Stitch, because we were concerned for my mom's health while she was particularly prone to infection during chemo. It was very hard for her because she was the one who would feed them and clean them. We routinely would hear her smile and say, "these are good birds, they always sing to me, they are my friends." Thanks be to God, she has her last cycle of chemo next week, so that means we better get lilo and stitch to have a check up before they can come home. Enter Dr Craig Harada. My father took the birds into the exam room, then he was excused. When he was called back, the doctor told him that just died! All done matter of fact, no deep sympathy, and we couldn't tell if he really cared at all. Of course when we get home, my mom asks how her beloved parakeets are. My heart sank. Dad looks at her and says, "Stitch just died." Stunned and dismayed, a lone tear welled up in here eye as she stared back at us. No call from Dr Craig to my mother, no sympathy for stitch's passing. I really struggled writing this, but it is my hope that it will help some of you out there. If Dr Craig or his office is reading this, and I hope you are, remember why you entered the honorable profession of vet med, and please remember little Stitch and what he means to my family. I will follow up with you at the office and if any of this changes I will update this post. Rest in peace Stitch, you were a good bird and we love you very much. read more

We moved our pet care from another veterinarian because, even though we liked them, we didn't feel like our pets were given the best care at that facility. Due to an emergency, we ended up taking one of our dogs to VERC and got much better care. We decided to look for a new veterinarian so we asked the staff at VERC and The Pet Clinic was one of the suggestions. On our very first visit we were hooked. Dr. Harada is very knowledgeable, but he's also soooo caring and compassionate! We've been bringing our pets to The Pet Clinic for 3 years now and we couldn't be happier! Very disappointed to say the least "-_-". I've be an loyal Client here for the past 5years+++ had (5) dogs go to them and I've never received the service and lack of concern, medical experience that I had this past week from the Doctor's here. I am unaware of which had diagnosed my pregnant dog as I was told to leave her for an x-ray and ultrasound ONLY!. (Our Normal is Dr. Scott Harada) When I picked her up I did NOT get an explanation of the bill and did NOT even question the price being around $550.00. I was only told that she seems to be pregnant and that I should bring her back in a couple of weeks for another x-ray and ultrasound. Our expected due date given at November 12, 2011. Unfortunate for me is that in the past week I had a feeling that something was wrong with my dog to say the least so I was looking around for a second opinion. (You folks know when your pet is ill you just feel it) So I did (See Other Post VERY HAPPY CAMPER HERE) Well I got the result from the other Veterinarian that indeed my dog was pregnant and that she was defiantly in labor by the time I took her in which was and EMERGENCY on a Friday late afternoon. Well all (3) puppies did fine at first then one died at 1:00am another at 4:30am and last 50hrs after given birth. Then I started to question WHY??? like any other concerned parent. It's NOT the MONEY let me tell you... You don't want to know what the medical bills are and how much the puppies were worth. If you are a human and a pregnant mother you are told NOT to take drugs, alcohol, smoke, etc. SO why did "The Pet Clinic" give my pregnant dog her yearly check up without my consent charge me for this without explanation then I read this after the whole ordeal call them to CANCEL my followup appointment to do the second x-ray and ultrasound and STILL NO PHONE CALL FROM THE DOCTOR??? Unlike my NEW Veterinarian who has concern even checked in on me to see how the family and are handling our loss. read more

She couldn't find the lady's name in her computer and she stay blaming the girl that her name not hyphenated! My boyfriend takes his cat there and woman just don't know how to talk to people. UPDATE: I'm updating my review to include indoor doggie day care. Since I learned about indoor doggie day care, my dog is much more relaxed and doesn't show any stress of outdoor day care as she had during outdoor doggie day care. I'd highly recommend indoor doggie day care. I want to review their Doggie Day Care services during the summertime. I assumed they had some means to cooling off the kennels that they use when doggie day care services are operating, but apparently, that is not the case. There is not AC and no fans for the dogs sitting in Doggie Day Care services. This is fine if the temperatures are not reaching the upper 80s to 90s which is the case for this summer, plus humidity adds to the uncomfortable environment. I would give them 3 stars if the weather was cooler with low humidity, but with higher temperatures and higher humidity, I would definitely think twice before dropping off my pet for doggie day care services. read more

Awful awful awful. We had a 10:30 am appointment and we're always there for a 10:30 am appointment. We signed in because we know that's the deal whenever we go there. We sat there and were cool about waiting because we figured they might've gotten backed up. But then a family came in after us and they were about to take them in to meet with our vet until I went up to the front desk and said something about how we had been waiting. I've worked a reception desk before and I know that if there's someone sitting there for 30 minutes without having ever talking to them that maybe you should check if they've been helped. Had I not said anything, we would've had to wait a whole hour. Although we had a 10:30 appointment, we were seen finally at 11:15. Safe to say, I've changed vets since then. Dr. Craig was okay, but I didn't like the feeling I got when he was doing his job...it felt like he didn't enjoy what he was doing. Either way, I'm happy with the decision I made to switch vets. Dr. Scott even helped and advised me what to do when I purchased my Silky male pup Kainoa on the mainland and the 5 months it took to get him through rabies vaccination and testing in Georgia until I was finally able to get him transported to Honolulu in January of 2021. Dr. Scott examined him upon his arrival and updated all his shots and vaccinations. Kainoa is now enjoying his life in Hawaii! read more

Dr Scott Harada seen my parrot. Never again! Took my baby into other room to run test. Never got got test results back in writing, he would just tell me. He was not even looking at my parrot's chart. My family has taken our pets to the Pet Clinic for over 20 years - since Dr. Scott and Dr. Craig Harada's father was around. We have trusted all the Drs. Harada for many years, as their compassion and love for our "kids" has never been surpassed. When he was a tiny puppy, we took our rottie mix to another doc for a short while (due to a free checkup promo with his adoption I think) but quickly returned "home" to the Pet Clinic on Beretania. We've sought care for our dogs, rabbits, cats, and even our turtle. When our rabbit passed away in 2006, Dr. Craig made a housecall to put her down gently because she was in so much pain and he knew the transit would put more stress on her. My 21 year old cat was cared for with much love her entire life, by Dr. Scott. From kittenhood to adulthood to the Rainbow Bridge, from scraps with the neighborhood kitties to her last illness, Dr. Scott gave her the best treatments and TLC. He is always up front about prognosis, cost, and alternate options. Yes, sometimes we have to wait over 30 minutes. But when one of my kiddos is scared or skittish, Dr. Scott and techs take the time to comfort and calm them before doing the procedure. If the reason that I'm waiting past my appointment time is because someone else's little one is getting this same compassionate treatment, I'm fine with that. Yes, TPC is pricier than other clinics, but the staff is always courteous, there are always reminder calls and follow-up calls, and when one of our kids crosses the rainbow bridge, Dr. Scott has always called to check up on my family, which has always shown to me that there is more than money on the line at this business. They know every family member and every pet by name. All of our pets trust Dr. Scott wholeheartedly, and so do we. read more

I have Dr. Scott Harada. He is the best. He takes care of my pitbull, Koa. When my dog got attacked by another pitbull who was loose, I called the Pet Clinic and they were able to see my Koa right away! The staff is so friendly, Christina is so sweet, sometimes Koa takes a leak or poops and she just cheerfully cleans it up, even though I offer to clean the mess. I haven't waited long for my appointment, sometimes they do have emergency visits, but its ok, I am a pet owner, so I understand the wait. I make sure my visits are on my days off. Overall I haven't really spent more than an hour there. read more

Although I had established myself with a vet shortly after relocating to Honolulu, my vet wasn't available when I needed to bring my cat in for an abscess. I went to The Pet Clinic and I liked that I wasn't high pressured into doing a lot of expensive tests or treatments. After an exam, my vet gave me an antibiotic, some cautionary literature about having an outdoor cat, and I was on my way. Thank goodness for the Pet Clinic. All of our pets have come here over the years and lately our mini schnauzer has had a number of obscure health conditions that were pretty serious. Dr. Scott is amazing in figuring out the diagnosis and treating her. Lots of close calls but she's 11 now and still doing well. Dr. Craig is not our primary but he has treated our pets when Dr. Scott is away and is equally wonderful. The staff is all very loving and professional. I am a proud parent of 3 dogs and 1 kitty. My babies love going to see Dr. Scott Harada (Dr Craig), the friendly receptionist-Christina and vet techs. while on one of my walks with the doggies, my baby Maya happened to step on a bee...within minutes she went into anaphylactic shock. luckily we were close to home so i paged Dr. Scott and explained the situation. He instructed to meet me at the clinic, within 15 minutes we had her injected with anti histamines and IV so she was steadily recovering from the deadly encounter. the next day she was a good as new...hopping and jumping around. This incident made me thankful for the close relationship we had with the doctor for the past 11 years. Dr. Scott knows each of my babies and treats them with respect and gentleness. I know that the care that Dr. Scott provides my babies will help them with their health and well being. good and complete care come with a price tag but as an owner you are the only one that can provide them with the best care possible. I would say i work for my dogs but the happiness they bring to my life is priceless! There are about 8 parking spaces in front. I have an adorbale little Beagle-Shih-Tzu mix puppy. She will be one-year-old on December 24, 2010. She has been going to Dr. Craig Harada since she was only 6 weeks old. She has been such a healthy and happy puppy thanks to Dr. Craig and all of his staff. I agree with the other reviews on here. The service is better than I could ever hope for. The doctor is very friendly and he does recommend products for your pet, but I have never known him to be pushy about you having to purchase them there. I was just at an appointment there today and he suggested a smaller nail trimmer for my dog. They can be purchased there, but he did not pressure me to buy anything today. I actually find that a lot of services are complimentary. The knowledge of the entire staff seems to be far above that of your average veterinarian clinic. I do notice that the wait time can vary. I have shown up early before and been seen right away, but other days I wait longer than my appointment time. I know some people do not have a lot of patience for waiting, but the service is well worth it. You have to consider that many people want their precious babies to be seen. The doctors also take care of some urgent needs and I'm sure you wouldn't complain if your pet needed to be seen urgently and you took somebody else's appointment. Somebody took my pet's time today, but the dog that took our time slot had been in an accident. Sadly, he could not be saved. I can't imagine being upset over waiitng 30 minutes to an hour. I spend more time waiting for my own medical assistance. IF YOU LOVE YOUR PET....YOU WILL WANT TO MEET THE STAFF AT THIS CLINIC!!!! read more

I took my rabbit who was having really bad eye problems to this place & although the staff were friendly I felt like they didn't really know how to handle a rabbit. By the time the dr took me in my rabbit wasn't restrained properly & immediately got scared and jumped off the table which is really dangerous for them because it could break their spine, after putting her back on the table the vet assistant didn't even want to restrain her because she freaked out. She ended up cutting her lip from that jump. Not only did I have to pay for her eye medication but also her lip medication which costed about $225. They told me she was just having eye problems 1 week later I researched why the medication wasn't working turns out it was nothing to do with her eye! Her teeth were growing funny which blocked her tear duct causing her eye to leak and losing hair around that eye. read more

The vet kept trying to push us to buy his different products- even to the extent that everything was placed in the bag and I was asked to pay the total... this is even after i said i would purchase the products elsewhere. Recently hasn't followed up on test results, no returned voicemails, then was informed that testing would be about $500 get a bill of $900. Staff is lacking, last straw was when I inquired about my dogs urine results, never returned message , called in didn't know what day I brought in my pets urine but had a result then laughed and said you brought it in on Tuesday right, no it was Saturday. Our impression about him and the clinic was not bad in the beginning, but we gradually came to distrust him due to unpleasant experiences. We now feel he is dishonest. He seems to be shy, that is OK. But the problem is that he lacks accountability. He does not spend much time to explain what he is going to do and even did. WOW.. This place is one of the MOST EXPENSIVE Vet clinics around town for X-rays. I think my dog may have hip dysplasia and have been calling several clinics this morning to get estimates. The other clinics are between $75-$120 for a series of X-rays. THIS CLINIC charges $89 PER X-RAY and the lady said would need 4 X-ray to check for hip dysplasia. Just warning other dog lovers not to get ripped off here. I actually found a very reasonable place on Young street. HONOLULU Pet Clinic $75 for X-rays and get same day results.
