Absolutely the worst place you could take a pet!!! They misdiagnosed both my dog and cat; they both died within a month They said my cat just needed something to soften his bowels, THREE meds were prescribed. I wanted him to get an xray they refused. I took him to another clinic, and they x-rayed him and found he had a"blocked anal canal." It was so bad his body was in a state of shutting down, and the only thing they could do was to " let him go" My dog was losing weight and had little interest in food. Blood tests galore were done...But I was never allowed to see the results! What? More medicine and expensive food - he got sicker. After what happened with my cat, I took him to the new vet. He was in a state of kidney failure! My God, I was so angry and absolutely distraught! So my beautiful dog, who was my soul companion, had to be put to sleep also. Went in for a bordatella vaccination for my daughter's dog because he was going to be kenneled while we were on vacation. THEY GAVE HIM THE WRONG SHOT!!! They administered a distemper shot that he wasn't due for and when I called and asked they said my daughter refused the bordatella vaccine even though the notes clearly said the DOG WAS THERE FOR THE BORDATELLA VACCINE!!! So when my daughter dropped our dog off to be kenneled she had to sign a waiver saying the kennel isn't responsible if our dog gets kennel cough (which is what bordatella is for). UNBELIEVABLE!! And horrible customer service. Whoever answered the phone kept talking over me and absolutely nothing was resolved. She kept saying "your daughter refused the shot" which is absolutely ridiculous because that's the shot we were there for!! WILL NOT BE BACK!! read more

I used The Pet Clinic years ago while living in Salem for a bunny to be neutered . I had a good experience with this clinic and decided it was worth driving from out of town. We needed our pup neutered and I remembered the options given for various aspects of the surgery or supply needed , and costs were very reasonable . We had a quote from another vet office which seemed rather high. So we decided to go with The Pet Clinic for the procedure and couldn't be happier . After an initial consult / exam , we brought our dog back for the surgery . We were given an option for him to wear a recovery suit instead of a cone which really was a godsend . Our dog is a working dog and not trained in the usual way so a cone would have been difficult . The vet used dissolvable stitches so no need to return . And the cost was affordable . I was content to just take down my former good review and leave it at that until I asked for my medical record. On the top of the file it said watch your language with client he is sensetive. Later it made several references to my being confused and even placed exclaimation points when indicating I dare call again!! a tacky at best, way to chart in a medical record. I came to the office due to my dog having bloody diarrhea. They asked me to provide fecal matter for testing. After the test they said she had a bacterial infection compounded by colitus. They recommeded two different rounds of anti biotics and anti inflamatories and a special diet. I had been giving her a bland diet prior to bringing her in and the blood lessened but later they took credit and said I told them she was improving. Soon after starting their recommedation she worsened. The first day I saw Dr. Genova in passing and I said I'm really afraid she's going to die and though I tried to put on a brave front I was near tears as Dr. Genova smirked and said "We're all going to die". Though she had clearly lost weight Dr. Genova said she looked "fine". As my dog wasn't improving I asked for an appointment and/or repeatedly asked to talk to the doctor. Mary Ann stated I needed to continue with the meds and diet and she would relay any information to me from Dr. Genova and would relay my concerns to him. Long story short within weeks and particularly after starting the recommed food she had a horrible bout of bloody diarrhea . She began vomiting soon after and would not eat. I then immediately rushed her to an emergency animal hospital where by just manually checking her lymph nodes, looking at her pale gums and doing a very rudimentary ultrasound followed by another more sophisticated one and a biopsy indiated that cancer had spread thoughout her body and she needed to be put down. This whole ordeal all occured within about one months time. The emergency hospital seemed appalled by her condition and were wonderful and very compassionate to my dog and to me. When I called the office aking to relay the fact my dog died to Dr. Genova and Mary Ann the person I taked to didn't bother to even say sorry for your loss. I don't blame the Pet Clinic for the cancer but I do blame them for the neglect and her needless added suffering. Our dogs became Pet Clinic patients 4 yrs ago when our dog Bruno was nurtured there as part of his adoption agreement. We were happy with the level of care that he received and started going there for all our dog's medical care. I find Dr Genova to be knowledgeable, caring and informative regarding my pet's medical challenges. The Pet clinic staff are also caring and attentive to our pet's needs. Non urgent appointments are scheduled out longer than I would like. But every time my elderly dog needed to be seen right away they found a way to get her in for the care she needed. read more

I took my kitten here for a spay after being recommended by a coworker. They did such an amazing job taking care of her that within a week she was back to her normal goofy self and her wound was nearly healed. I rescued a new kitten during this time who had a terrible issue with ear mites. I normally don't post about things like this but after what my husband and I dealt with last night was absolutely AWFUL and I want EVERYONE to know so that way this doesn't happen to anyone else. We had an appointment for my dog Nitro at 4:40pm yesterday for him to be put to rest. Keep in mind that I went into the clinic on Monday to pick up the sedative that I needed to give him prior to his appointment and I had CLEARLY stated that this was a euthanization appointment and paid for everything in advance that way we wouldn't need to deal with it after. My husband and I show up to the appointment, I get out and check us in then go back out to wait in the truck. We wait patiently for 30 minutes and still no staff came out to get us. So my husband goes in and mentions that we have been waiting for 30 minutes and not one staff in the clinic even acted like they knew what was going on. But then we finally got a room. We get in the room and the vet assistant comes in and says so " He's being seen today for a quality of life assessment? " Then proceeds to ask questions like " Is he eating and drinking water fine etc." At that moment I had to be blunt and tell her that we are here to have him put down as they should of already known that from when I scheduled the appointment.. so then she says let me go get the Doctor. Another 30 minutes goes by and still no Doctor came in. I'm so upset with the whole situation I'm bawling so my husband get's up to go see what's going on and spots the Doctor so then he finally comes in. At this point my dog is completely on guard and is having anxiety, the sedative that I gave him an hour prior did absolutely nothing. Doctor came in, did the first shot and then waited for him to calm down. As Nitro finally calmed down and started to fade he came back in and finished. But as my dogs body was lying on the floor with my husband and I crying and hugging him the Doctor left the room to get some vet wrap and left the door completely wide open so all the staff, customers are witnessing what's going on so my husband had to get up and shut the door himself. Then the Doctor asked if we had a spot to bury him and my husband said yes we have a spot on our property that I dug and made a wooden box to put him in and then he says to us " Make sure that hole is 2 feet deep and don't just cover him with plastic because the critters might dig him up". I couldn't believe that he would even say something so raw and straight forward like that at a time of grief! And then having to walk out the front door carrying our 70lb dog as everyone just stared in shock was humiliating I have NEVER felt like my dog and I were so unimportant as if it was nothing to them. I may have had one hell of a couple days and my emotions are going wild but this was EXTREMELY unprofessional and beyond wrong. They made it such a horrible experience. Ok. They aren't 'bad' here, and I am sure that there are decent vets there, but they really suck at communication and returning phone calls. I had to call several times over several weeks to get a prescription for my dog (and she needed it 'yesterday') and I am convinced that I finally got it because the actual vet answered the phone. I had the prescription the next day. I also know of a dog that had a severe health problem (could barely breathe or move around), but they kept finding little things that had nothing to do with it and never even entertained the possibility of a heart condition. I was terrified due to the bad reviews and it being COVID so I was unsure how my cat would be treated. They let me come in with her and they gave her a full check up and got medication for her eyes. She has a blocked tear duct luckily nothing serious! The vet assistant was extremely nice and the vet himself (Ken) was nice and looked over her eyes multiple times to make sure it was the tear duct! I took my puppy to The Pet Clinic in Salem to be spayed. When you sign the consent form for them there's also a bunch of options you can choose & the price they cost. I initialed NO on the microchip one & when I went to pick her up I found out that they chipped her anyways. Once they reread my paperwork they apologized & refunded the money for microchipping her plus 10 extra dollars. Then I asked if they could get the microchip out of her & they said yeah, if the doctor can still feel it. He could so I thought there would be just a small incision & they'd be able to pop it right out. Instead they shaved half her back & put at least a 3inch incision in her & caused her a bunch of unnecessary pain & suffering! I tried to have a decent and productive conversation with the woman I talked to on the phone who did not even identify herself. I was already stressed and very concerned about my little girl when I was dropping her off and then I noticed that my quote was several 100 dollars more then the first Quote I did question it at the time and was given all sorts of excuses so I asked why I wasn't notified earlier and I was given more excuses. The man who brought the last quote out to me and picked up Roxy was very nice and tried to be helpful but didn't have any answers.. I went home and talked to my daughter who I had borrowed her care credit to pay for the surgery and she agreed it was wrong and I should call The Pet Clinic and discuss the difference In The quotes. My first call was at 1:20 and I made two other calls after that to try to discuss the difference in the quotes and during these phone calls I was treated ver rudely, lied to and given excuses, later on even more stuff was said that wasn't true. When I picked up Roxy I was meet with by the same young man, he was very nice and understood where I was coming from but could not do anything to help. When I was given my Roxy and the receipt I was told I could not come back and if Roxy needed aftercare I would have to find somewhere else to take her. Later I was texting with someone at the clinic and I was told I didn't pay the bill lucky enough I have kept ever communication and was able to prove that it was paid. I feel that the quote should of never been changed without prior notification and the day of surgery was the wrong time to have raised it. I feel that whom ever I talked to should not be in the position of dealing with the public. I want others to know how I was treated and how this is a bait and switch scam and to be aware. I've seen evidence of the poor quality Ken Genova does to pets when being spayed or having a tumor removed. My mom has volunteered at an SPCA vet clinic and watched numerous surgeries done to both dogs and cats and the surgery he did to my friends dog looks like he butchered the poor baby. I have also worked walking dogs and seen them after surgery and never seen such bruising from being spayed or neutered either. I have shown evidence of my friends dog to several other pet advocates and vets and they agree the vet should be ashamed with his work. That much bruising is not at all normal from having a removal of any kind and especially not after in being spayed. I would definitely not trust this vet to do surgery on any animal of mine. I have a fur sister who had major surgeries on her luxtating patellas and she never bruised anywhere like whet I have seen from my friends pet. We almost took our cat here, but at the last second walked out. We were not greeted when we walked in, and waited 15 minutes past our appointment time before walking out. While we were there, they took a dog back and had the owner weigh it herself, which was strange. I also just felt weird about how unfriendly the staff was, so I decided to look on Yelp for the reviews. The Google reviews are saying like 4 stars, so it was REALLY concerning to see what a big difference there was on Yelp. I wouldn't be surprised if they're paying to filter their Google reviews. It seems many people's pets have been improperly cared for here, even maimed and killed. Also, apparently they lie about the prices and give more vaccines than necessary to make more money. Feeling a bit sick, and glad to have dodged a bullet, we got the hell outta there. Negligent surgery that was not authorized on pet. Consent was signed to do a dental on a 10 year old. They came home with a spay. Unfortunately for the doctor the pet had been spayed 10 years previously. Putting a geriatric dog with the risk of being under general anesthesia, creating a large abdominal incision sight that was not needed and she is at a higher chance for bleeding and infection not to mention causing unnecessary pain is not in your oath of do no harm. read more

I wasn't sure whether or not to write a review but seeing everyone else's negative experiences with this place has brought back upsetting memories. Tobi was our 6-year-old chocolate lab that passed away in August of 2020 from bone cancer. The Pet Clinic was negligent in their diagnosis. The reason I am sharing this is because their negligence (the nurses and doctor) put Tobi in more pain than he should have ever experienced. Also, I strongly believe the laser used sped up the cancer spreading. Tobi had leg surgery on both of his back legs years ago due to ligament tears (surgeries done by an orthopedic surgeon). It was also around this time that we moved so we switched vets to The Pet Clinic. Years went by and he never had any other issues with his legs. In April of 2020 he began having trouble walking and putting any sort of pressure on his right back leg. He wasn't sleeping or eating (uncommon for Labradors). The doctor at The Pet Clinic was convinced it was ligament tears and minor arthritis and that "special" laser treatment would help. He told me I should bring Tobi for a couple sessions a week. I would take Tobi; the nurses would take him back to do the laser and then call me when it was time to get him - usually 10 minutes. Because this was all during COVID I was not allowed in. After a couple sessions we noticed Tobi was getting worse and his leg was ballooning up at the knee. I expressed my concerns but was told to keep continuing with the sessions. Tobi - a dog that is always happy - would cry and yelp and fight to not go inside the vet's office. After a couple more sessions Tobi was getting worse, so I made an appointment with a bone specialist up in Portland. May 4th: the doctor at The Pet Clinic came out to talk to me and tell me that he's upset that I haven't been bringing Tobi for his laser treatments. I was deeply confused because I have been dropping him off like every other day and the nurses have been taking him inside. I informed the doctor that he has been coming for treatments, but his nurses are being negligent and not writing it down or something. The doctor was surprised because he would bring the laser with him when he came and take it back with him when he left. So, if he wasn't ever there with the laser what were the nurses doing to my dog? The laser confusion was confirmed (months later) when our customer at our market (an employee at the clinic) told us that every time I would drop my dog off for laser treatment and the nurses would take him inside, the doctor was never once there and the "special" laser he was talking about was also not there. The employee also told me that the laser they were using was one they were not supposed to be using. May 5th: The doctor was informed about the orthopedic specialist appointment and he weirdly does an x-ray (for free). We've asked them multiple times before to better examine the area. I get a phone call saying I need to come inside the clinic and was nonchalantly told that Tobi most likely has bone cancer. Why did it take so long to get an x-ray? Was it that troublesome? The doctor then said that he will send the x-rays to a radiologist to get it confirmed and he will also send it to the orthopedic surgeon Tobi is going to see. May 7th: the vet says they need a new set of x-rays. May 9th: they apparently have to resend the x-rays to the radiologist. Spoiler alert: it is now March 2021 and I have yet to hear back from a radiologist about those x-rays. They were also never sent to the orthopedic surgeon. I believe they were never sent to the radiologist in the first place. May 13th: The orthopedic surgeon confirms that it is cancer. We do his leg amputation and begin chemotherapy. BTW: Tobi would happily go inside for these appointments. Sadly, the cancer was really aggressive and spread to his lungs and it became too painful for him to continue. Tobi was put down August 6th, 2020. **They also ignored our concerns about a bump on my other dog Bruno's back. They said it was just hives. Once we switched our vet, the new vet did a full exam and found out it was a cancerous tumor. The End. read more

I've been taking our dog and cat here for the last few years. The people working here are always really friendly. We took our cat in who was limping and the doctor took a picture of his foot. It was broken. They sedated him because he's a feisty little cat and put a cast on his leg. While he was sedated they shaved off some matts in his fur and around his butt. My first impression was that the receptionist I encountered is not very nice. The vet assistant tried to put me in a room with wet floors. I appreciate cleanliness but I asked for another room and that floor was drier. When the veterinarian came in the assistant was no longer present, which I'm not accustomed to. My vet always has an assistant in the room with her. He is an older man, friendly enough but when he picked up my dachsund I thought he was going to drop him because the way he did it looked so careless. When checking out I was told to wait 3 days for an emailed quote for a dental extraction. The quote was a little higher than my vets but she can't get him in until the end of July so I scheduled an extraction for mid late June. I was impressed with their online patient chart. It is very nice but my intuition kept telling me something wasn't right about that veterinarian. I thought of the seriousness of the surgery and the things that could go wrong so I decided to look at the Pet Clinics online reviews. To my horror an older dog was there for a dental and was spayed by accident. Another dog accidentally chipped and the owner had them remove it (poor dog). Other cases where stitches were not done after a spay, only surgical glue. Young dogs are very active. Common sense would say place some stitches. After reading reviews I have to think that my intuition about this vet is right. Take your pets some where else. There is no excuse for that kind of carelessness. When I called to cancel the appointment I was placed on hold and hung up on after holding for 5 minutes. I called back and this receptionist was curtious. I told her my concerns and cancelled the appointment. I'm sad that my baby has to wait so long to get his broken tooth pulled but I trust my veterinarian and so we wait. read more

I don't understand what that one lady kassidi was talking about. First of all, I've had the same EXACT situation happen with my dog Charlie. Turns out, it was parvo, not "kennel cough". Parvo is an EXTREMELY contagious and deadly disease that unfortunately took my puppers life yesterday. The doc gave my dog an exam in the car to prevent the possible spread of parvo to the other animals inside the clinic. He also gave my dog some pain medicine to help. The exam was $45 yes BUT if you're going to a place for a service, they rightfully deserve to be paid. Also, my dog was given the same medicine and it was only $33. I did have an outstanding balance so I did have to pay around the same amount that other lady did. They were gracious enough to let me come in without an appointment being scheduled so I did have to wait about 30-45 mins. But that's to be expected when you don't have an appointment. I'm very pleased with their service and what they did to help keep my dog Charlie comfortable on his last days of life. I will be coming here again for future vet appointments whenever we decide to adopt another dog. read more

Took my dog here because other vet clinics are not accepting new patients due to COVID and my dog had a tooth abscess. I was grateful they took my dog in the same day I called in. I waited in the car for almost 2 hours when there was literally no one else in the parking lot and God knows what the employees were doing inside the building. Yes they were aware I was there with my dog in the parking lot. Once they finally came out and took my dog they gave me a quote and I immediately signed the quote paperwork. (Don't ask why I am just a weird person like that.) They told me pickup is at 5pm. I went home and was relieved my dog is no longer going to be in pain BOY WAS I WRONG!!! at 5pm my boyfriend and I went to pick up our pup and when we got there one of the girls came out and was telling us how well the surgery went and they will bring my dog out in a minute. After I paid, the same girl said they will need to have my boyfriend to come in because they were unable to wake my dog up so they said they gave her another injection to wake her up. My boyfriend told me when he walked in the girls were laughing at my dog because she was tripping out and look so scared. Her eye color is a light brown, but when we got her in the car, her pupils were so big you would have thought my dog's eyes were black. The same gal was telling me the aftercare for oral surgery and they told me to give my dog DRY DOG FOOD for the next several days because they said wet food will get in the wound area and will cause an infection. I thought that was really weird but I listened because I am not a vet. When we got home my dog could not stop shaking, unable to walk, she felt so hot, and when she tried to walk she would walk in circles. At first I thought it was normal but after reading the reviews most likely they gave her too much drugs and my dog was most likely having a panic attack. A week goes by and her mouth is not healing up, she kept bleeding and her mouth started to turn black like it was getting a bad infection. I called in about it, I send some pictures and they said it's fine and that is normal and to keep doing what I've been doing. They also said to pour water around the area. The next day my dog's mouth is getting more swollen. I received a call from Dr. Ken Genova asking me why I brought my dog in and said he would like me to bring her in if I want to and he will need to put her under again to check her mouth. I thought it was very odd the vet who performed the surgery on my dog is now asking me a week later why I brought my dog in. I decided I need a second opinion and took my dog to another local vet and when I told them what happened at The Pet Clinic. They were in shock and told me to stop giving my dog dry food and start wet food, they gave me more antibiotics and additional meds for pain (which The Pet Clinic only gave me 10 tablets of antibiotics and that was it! Also charged me for other meds that I have never received. Yes I am kicking myself for not looking at the receipt in detail) and this second visit at the other vet office they did not even put my dog under general anesthesia to check her mouth. I can't stand this place. I need to find a new vet. I can't even call them without them making me so angry and crazy. I have to make my husband call. They will quote you one price over the phone and then hand you a bill for double or triple. Some of their vet techs are rude or act like they have no brains. One time I had called in a prescription to Petsmart. Petsmart said no one from the clinic ever called them back. We went into the clinic and watched them pull the message from Petsmart out of the garbage. read more

We take all our animals there. Always met with kind smiling faces from people who genuinely care about our pets. Signed up for the puppy plan with our gsd Ripley and get notified when she needs all her shots and check ups at a reasonable price. Even though we moved to a different town I will continue to take my pets there. Highly recommend! read more

My heart is breaking. I should have read all of the ZERO star reviews before taking my baby to this clinic. I don't know exactly what happened while he was in their care, but once I returned to pick up my cat (after waiting almost an hour) the assistant had to ask that I go inside to try and get him out of the cage because he was growling and hissing and trying to fight off the guy who was handing him. My cat was covered in urine had feces in the cage - scared to death. He glared hard at that guy and wanted NOTHING to do with him in that room! I asked that he leave so I could try and calm my cat down to retrieve him but he was just to upset. Another assistant walked in and more or less just shoved me and my cat out of the office by taking him out covered in a blanket while he was still growing in fear put him in his carrier and was done with us. He was only there for a simple neuter. I REALLY WISH I HAD KNOWN THEY CONTINUE MALPRACTICE. The VET himself said to me "hopefully you can get him out of there" and "at least he won't be out mating anymore" my cat has never been outdoors mating!! I'm so disgusted by these people. I am fucking pissed off and I never right reviews but I'm just getting started! This is the absolute worst vet I have ever been too!!! First, I have a 1 year old Pit-bull puppy this was her second visit and LAST! I called the vet to inform them on my dog having what I assumed Kennel Cough so I brought her down there and I waited for exactly 45mins for them to even come out to my car! & than I get an Exam which costs 45.00....THIS EXAM WAS DONE IN MY CAR! My dog is already uncomfortable due to the vet not saying hi to her instantly jolting down with his fucking scope which makes her extremely uncomfortable && than tells me to keep her head turned....SHES NOT GROWLING SHES WONDERING WHAT THE FUCK YOUR DOING!! This dude is a full on PUSSY! Obviously he's scared of the breed! He than decides that her lungs sound fine but he wants to give her a shot, some antibiotics and something else I forgot! So he goes I'll be right back....umm okay? I than start thinking is he going to give my dog her shot in my FUCKING CAR?!?!?! Wtf?!?? I shit you not here he comes walking out with the "sterile needle" and I ask him is this sanitary? He goes "well the needle is sanitary" & I'm like I'm not comfortable with this situation at all so he goes well we can go inside let's go.....this is so unprofessional it's not even funny! They give her the shot in the fucking waiting room! Would you want to pay 105$ on a 3 min exam in your car to see that her lungs are fine and than to give a unsanitary shot that costs 55.00$ all outside in a parking lot next to a busy ass street...I think the fuck not! They charged me 55.00 for a Dexamethasone injection....the average price is 33-44. And than they charged me 45.00$ for the exam apparently that was an exam didn't even feel on her throat to see if it was "actually inflamed" just assumed due to him now wanting to be around her head. Didn't do shit! They wanted to charge me 70$ for amoxicillin....they were so pissed off that they over charged me. I will never be returning EVER AGAIN! Didn't know my car was an "exam room" and Bullshit on the excuse "well we didn't want to bring her inside due to kennel cough" well than they wouldn't have actually let me in the vet with her if that was the actual reason the reason was that he is scared of breed and doesn't care about the dogs at all!
