An excellent and highly positive experience! This being my first review on yelp, I'm pleased to leave a great review for "The Piano Warehouse" and its owner Garron where I had purchased a Yamaha piano in Oct. 2012. At a good size warehouse filled with grands and uprights of various brands, Garron was very patient and took the time to educate me on the difference between each piano and then allowed me time to demo as long as I needed with no pressure at all. He really listened to what my needs were and helped me to narrow down a few pianos for me to decide on based on my budget and piano skills. I studied piano for over 20 years so I was very familiar with the feel of a piano and ultimately decided on a piano that was fit for my level of playing with a fast piano action that allowed me to grow while maintaining a warm tone. I felt Garron was certainly an adept piano technician answering my many technical questions and he took the time to examine every inch of the piano with me from front to back and opened every board possible to take an even closer look inside. After researching what Craigslist and other piano store fronts had to offer in LA, I felt most comfortable dealing directly with an owner with a reputable background as a piano technician as oppose to a salesman from a large piano factory or a private party who's selling their piano that's been sitting in the sun or hadn't been played or tuned in years. The price of the piano felt very reasonable and after doing my own research on the current market value I felt Garron's prices were very competitive and with more savings than I had anticipated. The piano arrived in perfect condition from the piano movers Garron always uses and they really accommodated my schedule on when to delivery the piano. The movers were very courteous and were respectful of my home when they came in. They were in and out in less than 15min. They made sure I was happy with the position of the piano before they left. What a great experience this was. I was looking for a used Yamaha U3 and had visited some of the piano shops around L.A. I do music for a living and know my shit, and at all of the other piano stores I checked out I felt like running away screaming because of the high prices and the salesman-like approach...I'm buying a piano, guys, not looking for over-priced scented soap at Bed Bath and Beyond. Garron is quite the opposite -- he's a soft-spoken and gentle fellow who I would feel comfortable buying a piano from even if I wasn't in the know. He takes the time, explains everything thoroughly, is refreshingly honest, and his prices are notably better than ANY piano store I looked at. I ended up with a 2006 U3 that is one of the greatest sounding uprights I've played. He had a number to choose from (and is always getting in others), and helped me choose by playing for me on each them a number of times so that I could also hear them from a non-playing perspective. We trekked all over LA looking for a piano and were fortunate enough to come across Garron's store. I cannot say enough about how transparent he was about prices and the difference between US made and overseas made Yamaha's. Great service from Garron @ GL Pianos... so I was in the market for a Piano for my bratty 8 year old who totally does not deserve it. I was looking on Craig's List and shopping around and every piano I saw would have been a major compromise. I called GL Pianos, just in case they had a used piano in my budget. His wife spent tons of time with me on the phone, and even when I said that I likely could not afford their least expensive offering, she still offered me some advice on other pianos I was looking at via Craig's list. She also told me what to look out for. There was no pressure at all, I hung up, but kept thinking if maybe I should see what they had. I called her back later that day to get more info and to discuss a brand that I knew they offered. She spoke with me at length and eventually I decided to stop by to see one of their pianos. Fast forward. These two are wonderful; there was no pressure at all. After getting all the information, I felt this was a very safe and good deal, so I did it! And I have never felt better! I know I got a great deal, on a beautiful piano. They even arranged to have it delivered on Christmas eve- and I was able to hide it in another room and "roll" it into place so it seems like it came from 'Ol Saint Nick'! Their place is by appointment only, which i was unsure about, until i met them and got there, then i understood why- They are the real deal. They run the whole thing out of a warehouse to keep prices and overhead low. Inventory is great too. The business is the two of them, no pushy sales people or anything else. I would totally recommend Garron and GL Pianos to anyone. They will spend all the time with you that you need; there is no haggling and no pressure. That is the best part. When my wife offered to buy me a used grand piano for my birthday, wow! I asked my piano tuner if he would come to a store once I found a piano I liked to make sure it was in good working order, and of course he agreed. I am a very picky person, any thing I buy, I do lots of research to make sure I am buying the best item for the best price. I highly recommend Garron's work and the way he does business. Initially the plan was to ship my wife's grand piano as part of her move from the Midwest to Los Angeles. After talking with a number of piano restoration specialists we decided have it renovated here by Garron. The old piano arrived (along with all the family furniture) and was delivered to Garron's warehouse. It became clear that there were more hidden restoration issues than the family knew. Even though we were already budgeted and had the piano on site, Garron had the business ethics to say "I don't want to take your money for do this work. That family grand went to the scrap heap. We worked with an interim piano for a little while and then came back to Garron and found our new baby grand through him. We are currently in the process of buying a piano from them as we speak. Garron was very patient with me on the phone, and we met with his wife Cindy at their warehouse, where we brought our 3 boys (all under age 8 - the "lucky" recipients of piano lessons to come). Cindy was wonderful and encouraged us to take our time. They are both very low key/no pressure. We wanted a starter upright piano, and after checking out their inventory, both new and pre-owned, we are going with a pre-owned 1990 Yamaha ML-10. Our piano is going to be delivered next week! We purchased a Yamaha UX3 1985 from Garron last week and it was just delivered today. Here is our overall buying experience: - as a buyer of used piano, you have no clue what's the mechanics inside the piano. You are basically trusting the person who reconditioned it to do their job. We trust Garron because he has a reputation to uphold. We know that because the first thing he talks about when you go to his warehouse is what exactly did he to recondition all the pianos. He then shows you what's inside the piano. Most of the other dealers we went to would just talk about how amazing and rare the piano they are selling but never bothers to show us what he has done to recondition or what's inside the piano. - pricing is hard to determine for used piano because no pianos are exactly the same. Unless U are a piano dealer, U have no clue what's a piano really worth. With garron, you don't have to worry about this because when you first contact him. He tells U what he has in his inventory and how much he is selling it. There is no back and forth negotiation and thus you do not have to worry about whether you got a good deal. - definitely shop around other places first, get a good sense what other places are selling in terms of similar pianos, figure out what you want first and then give Garron a ring. I was very surprised that my husband made the purchase right away since he is the type that spends tons of time researching first and then will ponder before making the final purchase. read more
