This should be chicken on Beale, because hands down the chicken thighs took the prize. Had the platter, which included chicken legs, thighs, full rack and pulled pork. You also can chose four sides that are small. Sauce is decent and you have a choice of sweet and spicy. I prefer dry rub on my ribs but not an option here. Pulled pork is a mixture of moist and dry meat. I wished they took time to make a better presentation of their food. This is a tourist location conveniently located on Beale and primarily a bar with food. If you want true BBQ then this isn't for you. Great location for beers and late night bar food. read more

This place was horrible. The only positive I can take away is the one and only person out front seemed to doing his best however the ribs were not eatable. It had the best pork flavor I've ever had. Well, there is one other place that rated this high. It was a roadside BBQ shack on a back road about an hour SE of Birmingham AL. This was many years ago, I could not find if I wanted to and was before I starting reviewing on Yelp. There is a reason I am comparing The Pig to the Alabama place. Years ago at that shack, I marveled about the taste of the meat and was told that they get all their meat from a local farmer, down the road, down a back road and a ways down that dirt road. Oh. Quality BBQ starts with quality, high flavor meat. I believe that The Pig gets their meat from a quality source, maybe even private. With great meat there is no need to marinade, drown in slop, or smother in seasonings. It is just great. read more

Food was "ok", good but not great and IMO overpriced for what you got. The regular rib plate was 4 bones and a scoop of BBQ beans for $25. I got the chicken nachos ($21) - the smoked chicken and BBQ sauce were good but there was a large piece of cartilage/grizzle and some bones in it, which wasn't evident until biting into it. Service was good and quick, although our order did get messed up initially. I blame this on the loud music and inability to hear when someone is talking. My family made the rounds of ALL the rib joints in Memphis. This Beale spot is lacking ambiance. No music-- just a dull sound from next door. There is a lot of space in between tables, which is a good thing, perhaps. The service was kind. The food was slow to arrive. Ribs: 2nd best. We loved the sweet exterior and tender, smoky meat. Pulled pork is really good. It's served dry with sauce on the side. It's definitely delicious both ways. The baked beans are good too. I didn't try the sliced bread. The ribs were good in the middle and got dried out on each end.. kind of tired. We had sauce on half and dry rub on the other half. Waitress was nice. We didn't get the sampler because it wasn't ready.. that's what we were told. I would have liked to try that one. It would basically cover their entire menu of foods. Bottled Beer was cold. The bbq sauce is delicious. You have to overlook the decor to eat the food. At this point I would recommend this for lunch. We did a Sunday 4 pm meal. There was 3 other tables occupied. The menu here is simple and limited. That's why we thought the ribs would be succulent , not dried out. Like I said, the sauce is delicious. The pulled pork is delicious too. I will not be returning. Once we arrived in the restaurant, we ordered and the food we received was COLD. I sent my plate back to be remade, the owner was not pleasant at all, she had a very nasty attitude .. but she gave the "okay" for the food to be remade, but once the second plate was brought out, it was cold as well and my onion rings were extremely cold as if they had sat under a light. Nothing was made to order. The waitress was extremely rude also, we asked for drinks to go, she mumbled and walked off and we never received drinks. She never asked if we were doing okay or anything .. No friendly interaction and the food was horrible. This deserved NO STARS, but since I have to give one, that's all it gets. Two stars only because our server was nice. Beyond our server everything else was a letdown and disappointment. How does barbecue served on a plastic plate with plastic utensils sound? We asked for and received metal forks, but had to make due with the plastic knives. Beyond needing metal utensils because the meat was not really tender (especially the ribs for crying out loud!), it's a dine in restaurant, or almost a dine in restaurant! The condiment containers were filthy and sticky enough to adhere thermal tiles onto a spaceship re-entering Earth's atmosphere! Unfortunately for us the food was nowhere near hot enough to need any such precaution. If you order onion rings as I did, be sure you don't really have a craving for them because you only get three, that's right! You only receive 3 small onion rings per order! I had visited this establishment a couple times several years ago and enjoyed great food and live entertainment. I truly feel that I could have found better food thrown out the backdoor of some of the other restaurants than what I paid for at this one! Blues City Cafe and Central were excellent experiences!! The Pig on Beale should be unceremoniously euthanized so as to not disappoint additional patrons or tarnish memories of better days gone by. read more

I've been to this place twice now, and had completely different experiences each time. The first trip was accented by a less-than-attentive staff and ribs that were dry and just ok. I could not recommend this place based on that experience alone. However, I have since been back to give them another shot and am glad I did. This time the staff was much better and payed attention to refilling glasses, providing guidance on the menu, making good recommendations for sides, etc. The ribs were very good this time. Moist and tender, with a nice smoky flavor. I would not consider them championship level ribs, but they were very good. Had some "Q" at The Pig located on the famous Beale Street in Memphis. It was a quiet Monday night so it was rather slow. With that said, the server was very friendly and attentive. I had the Jumbo Pulled Pork Sandwich with fries and a side of baked beans. The pic also shows one onion ring I bartered from my dining partner . The pork was tasty and tender and the seasoned fries were particularly good. The overpriced baked beans (most additional sides are $4.95 each) were a real disappointment. The server said the baked beans are his favorite side. I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on that one. Overall The Pig was not a mind blowing experience but definitely was not a bust by any means. Granted it's right on touristy Beale Street, but the 12 bone full slab was on small side to start with for $22.95, and then they charge $5 for two tiny sides (cole slaw and onion rings for us tonight).
