Cocktails good with a heavy poor. Service was nice, friendly, and quick. BBQ is not a smoked process. My theory is they boil then add a little liquid smoke. Corn bread not fluffy, dense. Ordered Cooked Tips, more like chopped up scraps. Half of it was hunks of pure fat, had to return. If I were to go back I would probably get the pulled pork. read more

3 of us stopped in for a Saturday lunch. I had the pulled pork sandwich, another one of us had the rib tips an the third had the 3 (it was 4!!) rib plate. The food was absolutely top notch. Pulled pork was tender and smokey. The rib tips were awesome and the 3 rib came with an extra 4th! Corn bread had full pieces of corn in it, great flavor and moist. Coleslaw was as good as it gets. Bottom line, next time I am in Walker I will be stopping in for BBQ. Other reviews of the waitstaff seem harsh. We were warmly greeted and sat quickly. Best pulled pork I have had since moving up from Louisiana. Fork tender, pulled fresh for your order so the meat is moist. When you bite, it's so tender you bite right through without any gristly, stringy bits. With a bit of their creamy slaw on top it's sheer, meaty BBQ heaven! read more

The best barbecue I've had in Minnesota. If you can get them, try the burnt ends. The brisket, pulled pork, beans, and corn bread are also excellent. We were given complimentary kettle chips and a stack of quarters for each kid (for the small game room) upon arrival. Reservations are a must. Great BBQ. Pulled pork was really good. They had Mac n cheese for the special and that was good also. They give complimentary kettle chips that are super good- we bought extra to take home. The server was nice enough and attentive. The only thing that was a little off-putting: a couple guys came in who were obviously regulars. What a place! We stopped in for lunch last weekend and were blown away by the entire experience. Not only was the food amazing - we enjoyed a brisket sandwich, a pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw and an incredible slice of buttermilk pie. But beyond the food, we left feeling inspired by the owners. The husband and wife owners of The Piggy truly believe in making people happy with food. They don't want to turn tables quickly, they want their guests to feel welcome. They treated us as though we were friends they hadn't seen in a while. As someone who loves food and loves to cook, I admire these folks. They are living my personal dream - running a little spot, just the two of them, serving incredible food and doing it their way. We decided to try this place for lunch, against the advice of several locals. We had heard tales of long waits and poor service and both were evident within two minutes of our arrival. The girl that greeted us from behind the bar was pleasant enough so we thought we'd sit and have a beer during the 45 minute back-up, despite plenty of empty seating. However we were intercepted by an older woman who made it very clear she didn't want us to wait so we promptly moved along. We went to the Piggy on a Tuesday in August - we decided to go between lunch and supper because we heard that it can get crazy at supper and they run out of certain dishes. I had the beef brisket and my wife had the pulled pork. Both were delicious. The brisket was tender and juicy. The pulled pork was done perfectly as well. We liked that they don't add sauce....it's available to add yourself. Sometimes when the sauce is already added, it can be a little extreme. The available sauce was excellent. This is not a chain where food is frozen and comes pre-made in pails. The owner just makes a certain amount and if he runs out, it's all gone. You get a better product when the place is run by the owner, and not some manager on salary. Over all great place. read more

FANTASTIC meal! We had 10 people dine at the bar who enjoyed ribs, brisket, and turkey caesar salad. Steve and Kathy (owners) are the BEST! Ribs were smokey and tender. I'd heard about this place, and needed a change from my vegetarian diet on the farm. Did it live up to the hype, and meet expectations? Yes. The meat was great, smoked to perfection and very tender (I sampled the brisket and pulled pork, despite my vet's insistence that I should only chew hay). The sides of coleslaw, potato salad, and beans were good, what you'd expect if you're a human who's had those things before. The barbecue sauce provided was excellent. The cornbread - oh my, the cornbread. Get it with the honey; I ordered a second piece for desert, and next time might just order a trough of it if they'll let me. The ambience was nice (I ate outdoors, because I'm an alpaca, duh). It started to rain and the pitter patter of the drops on the steel roof brought me right back to my stall in the barn. And let's not forget about our server Jim. He really made the visit enjoyable, with his charm, wit, and knowledge. I'll totally let him pet me if he comes to the farm. read more

Walker is lucky to have such a great BBQ joint... I live in the Twin Cities, and I haven't found anything this good. The pulled pork sandwiches are under $10, and the take-home packages are great if you are having guests or entertaining. Just be aware that you need to go early in the day, or call ahead in the morning if you are wanting to pick up a large order or will be having a large party dining. Some of the previous reviewers talked about the poor customer service, but they are under new ownership, and I think their staff is friendly and courteous, so I would consider going back if you had a previous bad experience.... it is really a gem! read more

Delicious food tonight at the Piggy. Had read reviews and was concerned about service, but the NEW OWNERS are kind, courteous, attentive and the BBQ ribs were simply amazing. The sides were very good as well (especially the cornbread). Prices were very reasonable and we were able to get a nice craft beer and home-brewed root beer for the boy. Wonderful! read more

We have tried to dine here in previous years but were always disappointed that they ran out before we got there. New owners so the hours have expanded. Yay! And you can make reservations on Yelp. I had the brisket sandwich which was awesome. Thick slices that fell apart. Both BBQ sauces were excellent. Hubby had half rack of ribs. Portion size was more like a full rack. They were awesome too. We bought 10 pounds of the pulled pork for a party 3 weeks ago. It was $20 a pound and we had to pull it ourselves. It was real light on the smoke flavor. I may try eating at the restaurant and see if it's any better. It was not $20 a pound quality. read more

We had arrived in Walker Friday night to celebrate our 20th Wedding Anniversary. As we approached the door of The Piggy we noticed the sign that said they closed at 7:30, it was 7:34. The owners welcomed us in, and we grabbed a beer and pulled pork sandwich. Not only was the food spectacular, but so was the company. Let me explain what makes this place SO unique. The owners chose in retirement to create a business were they were the only employees, where they are served they way they wanted to be served, and where you get personal service and top notch food. And they did just that. Grass fed, never frozen, quality ingredients are abundantly obvious in taste. We came back the following day to get a taste of the ribs and brisket, and they were even more incredible. The ambiance of restaurant is traditional up north with modern amenities, with custom woodwork, a beautiful mural, and hand-made rustic tables and chairs. A homey feeling welcomes you as you walk in the door and the field stone fireplace adds to the cabin-y charm. Prices were very reasonable, reservations are welcome, but go early because everything is smoked fresh, when it's gone, it's gone. read more

Our family came into the restaurant at 1 pm on a weekday in summer - vacationing tourists, like every Walker business' target market. There were almost no tables occupied. The lady at the counter abruptly and extremely rudely booted us out, telling us she didn't have enough food to serve us. They had opened at 11 am. I really don't know how they expect to stay in business if she was lying OR telling the truth - if they are running out of food at 1 pm after opening at 11, or if they just don't want customers. Not sure I would call this BBQ, we had the sample platter with all the meats on it. No smoke flavor or rub flavor found. Meat was at least tender, but I can make it that way in the oven at home. Wait staff was courteous and beer was cold, just don't come for the food. read more

Really solid BBQ. Brisket and pulled Pork sandwiches were piled high. Homemade BBQ was a bit bland would have been nice if they offered something with a bit more flavor or kick. By far the worst experience I've had a bar. You'd think with 3 people at the bar the waitress would be happy to see a group of 13 of us. Instead we were not greeted with any pleasantries. we politely asked to change the channel to the World Cup game from midget wrestling and was screamed at by the waitress. Very good locally owned. Delicious smoked and barbecued meat. Lots of juicy meat on the sandwiches. The decor is very pleasing and the restaurant and bathrooms are very clean. I would order the sandwiches meat only, because the bun is just a grocery store oversized hamburger bun. The chips with the sandwich were kettle cooked bistro style. The beans were just canned baked beans into which they added pork. The beans were nothing special. Prices are reasonable if not thrifty for the amount of juicy meat that you get when you order the meat only without the bun. The service was super friendly. read more

BBQ!! Yep, in Northern Minnesota! You walk up to the storefront and you are directed to go between buildings and enter before you hit the smoker...into a side door! They get there early and smoke their ribs, pork shoulder and brisket daily. We pulled in off of Leech Lake from ice fishing and saw some lights on in this place. Went in and the first question you ask is whats left? Apparently everything sells out daily, and one taste and the reason is obvious! I had a beer and my buddy had one also. I ordered a brisket sandwich ($6.00) and he got a pulled pork sandwich ($5.00) and a couple of beers. The waitress (co-owner) said there may only be enough brisket for one sandwich, maybe not) The chef/owner came out and explained that the meat wasn't typical brisket, but juicy and pulled rather than sliced. Would I be ok with that? SURE! Well a few minutes later he was out with the sandwich, bread was soft, flavorful, some kind of locally made white bread dinner roll or something or other. Meat was plentiful and piled next to the bread and cole slaw on the plate. While we were waiting she brought a basket of flavored kettle chips and BBQ to the bar and we drank beers and ate chips. My buddy didn't get the sandwich, he got just a plate of pulled pork but he said it was great. Sure looked like a lot of meat, and looked tender and juicy. Staff was friendly, competent in a family owned store kind of way and entertaining. There were locals in there ordering To-Go stuff and while we were eating one of them called back and said they forgot to put something ordered in the bag. The owner was ready to take off his apron and run to meet them in the next town over, and bring the small plate of whatever was forgotten, but another patron was going that way so volunteered to drop it off. Great small town place, I hope no one finds it. I said I was going to write a review and the owner said not to do him any favors. This is his hobby and he didn't want to have to work too hard. SO stay away from this place! Food is great, its a local find and they don't have a monster sized smoker, so I want there to be some BBQ when I come in from fishing this summer!! 2 beers and 2 good sized meals twenty something dollars. Like a previous reviewer, we also don't know what the food tastes like. While on vacation we tried to stop by The Piggy for lunch at 12:45 on a Tuesday. We were informed while waiting for a table that they were out of ribs and brisket. When we said we were willing to have the pulled pork we were asked, "are you sure you want to stay?" as if they wanted us to leave. We decided to wait 20 minutes for a table to be cleaned off for us. After being seated we tried to order. One of us attempted to order a grilled cheese due to not being a meat eater and was told adults can't have a grilled cheese, even though it states differently on their menu. Half-way through ordering we were informed that there would be a wait for the pulled pork. When asked how long, we were told it would be up to an hour. So after 30 minutes of trying to turn us away, The Piggy finally figured out a way to do it. They are uninterested in serving customers, they only want locals to stick to the status quo. I would highly recommend that everybody avoids this restaurant except for the fact that it's one of three in downtown walker. Even so, we won't be going back even though we're in walker every year. read more

We live near walker and were in town doing some shopping and decided to give piggys a go. We travel two thirds of the year and eat a lot of bbq all over the county. Honestly never gave piggys a thought but had a fellow local buissness owner tell us how good it was so thought we would give it a try. We walked in at 1:15 on a sat and looked for a table. There were four in our party an decided to sit at a large table for lack of a table that would accommodate the four of us. We didn't see the that there was a reserved sign on the table and was promptly approached by a grummpy and snooty older lady that made sure to inform us we could not sit there and instead of accommodating us she gave us a look of disgust and turns walked away and started talking with another customer. When we asked if we could pull up a stool to a table, we were ignored. As we made our exit ran into an older man coming out of the back and with a confused look on his face but didn't engage us in any conversation. It look like were not the first ones to have this kind of service and reception. I m sure the food is great but the service stinks and would not recommend putting yourself through this experience. I hope things change but have a feeling as long as his wife is out front it won't. read more
