Recently renovated, feels modern and welcoming. Great menu, wonderful service. We had boom boom shrimp and grilled octopus as appetizers. For main dish hubby had the skirt steak five star and I had the skirt steak pine tavern style, both were really really good. Desserts were awesome too! And Jim was a great server. Food was good, portions and service could be improved. Made a reservation for six for indoor seating on a Monday evening. Was seated at a booth while regular tables were available, hostess dropped menus and left before we even sat. It was a mix of young and old so squeezing 6 in a booth was not ideal, a hostess should recognize this before seating. After chasing the hostess down outside we requested to be seated at a table. Waitress took drink orders right away and came back with them in a timely manner. Food took a very long time to come out and one meal came a few minutes after the others. None of the servers were overly friendly. No bread is served at the table. Everything is a la cart, waitress did not ask about soup or salad. Half the table order filet mignon, they got a piece of meat and a scoop of mashed potatoes for $30, no vegetable. 2 of the 3 filets were cooked as ordered, one was overcooked. Overall food was tasty but for the price maybe add a veggie or bread. read more

Been going here for years. We USED to love this place, but ever since the ownership and manager has changed this place is absolutely sub par. Flies everywhere, a manager who sucks up, but NEVER delivers. Worst of all they took a ton of Mother's Day reservations and couldn't come close to honoring our time. The manager was a jerk who gave me flack the whole time and didn't help at all. TERRIBLE. That manager deserves to be let go asap. Well the food was very good well prepared! The prices are comparable with other restaurants in the area !! The only complaint is the volume of the music and the style of music causes everyone in the restaurant to speak very loud causing the noise level to make it very uncomfortable my mother in law went back the next day with her friends and they had to leave due to the noise level. I will not go back until I hear they have changed the choice of music and the volume, I don't want to have to shout to talk to the person next to me. I could not even hear the waiter . the music kills the good food and prices !!!!! read more

As a fellow restaurateur I have to say we were very happy with our visit there. We went on a Tuesday night and we all had the prime rib special it was the best I have had in a very long time accompanied by garlic mashed potatoes and broccoli and also a side salad all were excellent. The bread was very good, the reason for not giving 5 stars was because of the chocolate cake and decaf coffee were not to our liking but the other 2 desserts were excellent the waffle with ice cream and the apple strudel with ice cream both excellent. Our neighborhood favorite for a number of years. Their menu is varied with quite a few international recipes. Try the Thick Cut Bacon. It's unctuous goodness! The Bar is very popular for Sports Fans. Excellent bartenders every night of the week! I'm a huge seafood lover and there are always creative options paired with pasta or salad. The salads are incredibly creative and always fresh. The BREAD! The bread is a Portuguese type brought to the table lightly toasted. Unbelievable! Another favorite is the Grilled Octopus appetizer. It arrives at the table still sizzling garlicky and tender. Tonight's Lobster special was splendid and I just about licked the shell clean, it was that good! The Grilled Octopus appetizer was a sizzling sensation! Love the new Garlic Butter for the toasted bread! 2/2/17. Haven't been back in a few weeks love the new look! We've been dining here since it opened. It has gone downhill. The prices go up but the menu doesn't improve. The drinks have gotten smaller. This time our server was excellent but we've walked out in the past because our order didn't arrive. This time we were appalled to be told by the server that there would be an additional service charge if we used a credit or debit card to pay for dinner. This information was not posted anywhere that we could see. We have been to cash only restaurants but that is posted so you know before you've ordered and eaten dinner! Went there for Thanksgiving, and I can't say enough about it. The food was excellent (I had the skirt steak), the servers couldn't have been more attentive or pleasant. The manager was very friendly and accommodating, even giving my son-in-law a drink on the house after one of the servers got busy and forgot his drink. I don't normally leave bad reviews but I am extremely disappointed in what has happened to the service of this restaurant. I've been coming here for years. Recently, they had a gorgeous renovation of the restaurant. I was so excited to see the new face of the place and when I arrived, we sat in a booth for fifteen minutes and had to flag down a server. This was last week. We decided to try again, today. We arrived, sat in a booth for fifteen minutes AGAIN before someone who wasn't a server came over and had to take our order. He was pleasant but since he wasn't a server he barely came back. No one asked how the food was, no one brought the check. I got up to use the restroom and saw three servers leaning on the all chatting. I have worked for a fine dining establishment for five years, and I can tell you I would be fired if I gave this kind of service. If a customer was waving their hands after waiting 25 minutes to get the check with dirty dishes and empty drinks in front of them? Are you kidding me? The food is delicious, and your restaurant is beautiful, but I would take the crappy old decor and GOOD SERVERS over the horrible ones you have now. You've lost a repeat customer. I've been coming to eat with you for years and years, and now I'll never return. I hope your service gets better. read more

I heard a lot of good things about this place and i really don't know why. It's disgusting. The fakest "classy" spot I've ever been to. I ordered the prime rib medium rare, it came out completely cold from sitting around. Asked them to take it back bc it was cold, reheated the same piece in a microwave and brought it back out. It was clearly not medium rare anymore and unevenly cooked. When I asked the manager to take it back bc it's over cooked he shot me an annoyed look and was extremely rude about it. A new piece came out and it was still way over cooked but I didn't feel like dealing with anyone from there anymore. Boxed mashed potatoes, over priced, crappy service. The only reason this place is still in business is because of the locals who go there to drink. read more

Food was good. The noise level is even higher after the remodel, and our party of 4 could not hear each other. All 4 of us got a headache. It's not for families or friends wanting to dine and be able to hear each other talk. Definitely make a reservation requesting a table away from the bar. I was excited about visiting this place, after always passing it by on the way to Big Ed's all you can eat BBQ ribs. A friend had told my wife that Pine had eall you can eat pasta, steak, & Lobster nights & specials. Our fav. All you can eat Lobster stops, The Quay, & Seaview Marriot, were no longer serving the lobster. She warned my wife it was a little dark inside, but said her family had hit it recently & one should not judge a book by its cover (I too believe this as well.) Well, my wife's friend must not eat much in one sitting, as there were no all you can eat specials, regardless of what day one comes to Pine. We had the lobster special (I ordered a double dinner, to get two for myself) & got two lobsters, overcooked, with soggy seafood stuffing that, in spite of the web site ad about it being mostly real seafood, was all breading. The lobster were so small, they might as well as been those little rock lobster hybrids (like the types you get 5 of over pasta, in the better saefood places.) We also attempted the pasta night, & then gace up. The pasta was not plentyful as people had said. The sauces were ok, but we paid extra for meatballs, chicken in the pasta, etc, & all the extras were dry & not worth it. Such a shame. Sometimes you CAN judge a book by its cover! read more

This place used to have the best burger around. Pine Tavern & Barnacle Bills were the burger apex around here. Wellll, I can now cross off the PT on my burger list. Did new owners take over this place the last year or so? It seems like it. Our burgers were as large as always, but were completely void of any kind of flavor. Its pretty sad when the bacon is the only worthwhile taste on a burger. It could have also been due to the fact that our medium burgers showed no nice of red or even pink. In retrospect, we probably should have sent our burgers back but seriously what kind of bonehead cook over cooks a medium burger to wellll done? Oh well... read more

Sigh, I don't like yelpers who post about one random dining experience (Steve S.). It stinks, i'm sure, but we want to know how it tasted, not to hear one vent about one experience (a bad one I know). My opinion (after more than ONE visit). Fantastic local cuisine. I wouldn't say it's amazing, but the garlic butter is really well made, and the prime rib/mussels marinara are steady performers. I do think it has slipped the past few years (due to the economy I think, as they are doing far too many price specials), but luckily they still have a thoughtful beer and wine menu. If you live in the area, give them two chances. Not because I didn't like them the first time, but you need to try a place twice to really know. read more

Was having a nice dinner with a friend of mine and after an hour and a half the manager comes over and says "Hi I have the table reserved and the people are now here." You can continue your conversation if you'd like at our bar. I have never been asked to leave a restaurant I am very insulted and will never go back. My husband and I have been there three times and we probably won't be back. The first time was when we had just moved to the area. The seating is terrible; almost every table is shoved against some type of wall/barrier. Those in parties of two are jammed into areas where you are practically sitting on top of one another. I couldn't cut my steak because my arm kept hitting the wall and the table wasn't big enough for me to move over. We tried a second time and ordered the guacamole as an appetizer- it was incredible! Definitely try to order it when you go- it's pricey but the best we've had in this area. After the awesome guacamole experience we decided to try the Pine Tavern one more time. The third time we went we only went because we were craving their guacamole. Unfortunately, they did not have avocados so we couldn't order. Instead, we just had the bread and butter (the garlic butter is good) as an appetizer and chicken marsala as the entree. The food we ordered was just okay, but not worth the price. Also, refills are not included on soda- I didn't know that. The decor is random, the seating is not comfortable, the food isn't that good, and it's somewhat pricey. Average meal. Took about 45 minutes to get our order. Wife ordered Filet Mignon which was cooked perfectly. I ordered the porterhouse pork chop. Overcooked and chewy. We both ordered mashed potatoes with gravy and the waiter came back and told us that gravy was an extra $.50. Seriously? It wasn't the cost but that's a lame charge. Probably will not return. i ordered a simple tavern, cheese burger, medium well, with saute onions it was just awful raw and bacon was on the top of it (i think she screwed up the order w someone else's) so i told the waitress to bring saute onions since it was wrong i should have told her to take the whole thing back but , i was tired and my husband would have had to eat without me well the whole meal was ruined because most of it was rare and when i pulled the bacon off the burger, the cheese came off with it so now, i had a burger with no cheese ruined meal usually bars have the best burgers but this was bad read more

The Pine Tavern is absolutely a hidden gem. We heard great things about it from a family friend and decided to check it out tonight. The menu is nicely organized and prepared and they have a fully stocked bar. We both ordered the prime rib and it was absolutely delicious!! The size was enormous and it was so tender you could cut it with a butter knife. The service, we had a great waiter named Niko, was terrific!! He went out of his way to explain things and make sure we had everything we needed and were happy with our meals. I wouldn't say this place is expensive, rather moderately priced. For a Greygoose Martini and a glass of Pinot Grigio and 2 prime rib dinners with two sides and a salad we thought the price was very fair for the amount and quality that you got. We will definitely be returning to the Pine Tavern and telling all of our friends and family about it. This was the worst service I've ever experienced at a restaurant. We sat in the bar area but at a table, and when we ordered drinks, the waiter looked at us like we were insane. He told us to order our drinks from the bar because it was happy hour. This would have been a pretty cool heads up except that after I ordered the drinks, the bartender told me that we had missed happy hour by ten minutes. We ordered dinner before I went to the bar to grab the drinks. Both of us ordered the prime rib, which was overpriced compared to other similar local restaurants ($35 here vs. $25-30 other places for the same size). I ordered mine medium rare, my uncle ordered his rare. Mine came out well done. His looked like it was well done the night before and then they heated it up for a couple of hours before serving it to us. We each had two bites - one from outside part of the rib and then one from the center. When the waiter came back, we told him politely that our prime rib was way more well done than what we ordered. He stared at us dumbfounded for a couple of seconds before saying he had to go get his manager. She came back with him, we told her the same thing, so she took them away and said she we would be back with steaks that were cooked to how we ordered them. She came back with the same steaks and told us that they didn't have anything rarer than these and since we had eaten "more than half" she could only offer us free dessert. I told her that we didn't come out for dessert, we had two bites each, and asked why we were served well done prime rib if they didn't have what we ordered. We would have just ordered something else if that was the case. Her reply was that when we ordered, they DID have it, but by the time our food was ready they were out of it. Obviously that wasn't the answer to my question. She kept talking in circles, and after suggesting that we take the steaks home and slice them into roast beef sandwiches for lunch tomorrow, I told her to just bring us the check. Five minutes later the waiter returned with the steaks in a box and no bill. A couple minutes after that he returned, without a bill, to tell us that he convinced the manager to take one of the steaks off. He takes one of the two boxes with him. When he returns a few minutes later, he puts the box that he took with him back on the table, and leaves with the other one after saying he took the wrong box. What the hell? We paid for the one overpriced piece of dried out meat and left the box but no tip. I would give negative stars if I could. read more

The photos posted on Yelp do not reflect the newly renovated restaurant. The new look is very clean and modern. The menu is the same as it was before. The Baked Goat Cheese with asian pear, dried cranberries and candied pistachios is excellent! The Shrimp in Garlic Sauce is great for dunking the warm bread. Maple glazed Salmon is always very well prepared. Waffles with ice cream for dessert is a winner! Wait staff was excellent!!! I would recommend a table FAR Away from the BAR area. The acoustics around the bar are horrible, you need a bull horn to hear the person next to you. read more

We have been customers for many years. Always a very good meal and drink at a very fair price. Tonight we noticed a convenience charge for using a credit card. Total turnoff, I find it outrageous that a restaurant would charge for credit card usage. Better they should raise their price by a quarter an item and realize credit card usage is part of the cost of doing business and not penalize the customer for its usage. read more

I have been going to Pine Tavern for years, last night I went and was shocked. The previous staff members were all gone. Claudia who was the Manager kept a well organized upscale environment, not now under the NEW MANAGEMENT! I ordered a Sangria, and it looked and tasted like punch.. When I questioned the POOR LOW QUALITY OF THE Sangria, I was told all the bartenders poor wine from the same box and was given a second drink in a SODA GLASS (not wine glass)..Both drinks I returned and said no thank you. The food was half ass.. There was food on the seat that I had to clean before I even sat down. The real kicker was when I ordered the DeSelamonte Bread (I am sure I'm misspelling this) anyway flat bread with tomatoes and prosciutto, I have had this in the past..The waiter brought what looked and tasted like MATZO'S that had been browned in the oven and then put tomatoes and olive oil on top. The female hostess was wearing a short skirt(skort) with black lace stockings, I commented on the look and she said they go for $60 (bullshit), she looked like a street walker from 42nd Street and 11th Ave, NYC. There was food in cracks where e booth seating was, Spring and Summer will get this place closed down, I have no doubts there will be many ANTS AND ROACH'S that will be dining as well. read more

What can I say about a place that is OUT IF THIS WORLD!!! The food is EXCELLENT, they have a big variety so you can actually go every night and order something different every night from Steak to Seafood, pasta to burgers, chicken parm to fajitas the menu and specials are endless. The restaurant is clean. Atmosphere is warm & inviting. Sangria is to die for. Now on to the staff. What can I say every time we go they go above & beyond to make sure that every thing is perfect. I live very close to the PT so already that's already one star. I've been here on several occasions and while the food is excellent, I've always enjoyed my food and the prices are very low, the service is meh. I don't really have a particular occasion where I've had very bad service, but it's just not good. I don't think the waitstaff is properly trained and for some reason it either takes forever for something, or a request doesn't go through. I love the food here, just wish the staff was a bit more cohesive. read more

I just read the previous reviews on the Pine Tavern in Old Bridge on Rt 34 and our experiences just don't jive with many of those reviews. My wife and I (who are not the owners or know the owners or anyone who works here) eat out fairly often, have been going here for the last few years; sometimes as much as once per month. It seems that we need to start playing the lottery because we never had a bad meal here nor have we ever had a problem with the hostesses or the wait staff. Actually they have been better than average. We're either lucky (gotta play the lottery!) or there must be something wrong with us! I really like the maple glazed salmon, never had the steak. My wife and I have had the pasta dishes and chicken and we've enjoyed the savings when we've lucked out and visited on a night when they have specials. I think their pricing is fair and that we've always gotten more than our money's worth. We've met friends here and know that other friends have gone here too. No one has indicated that they were unhappy with the Pine Tavern. I sure hope we continue to be lucky because we're still going to visit here and I suggest that you do too and make up your own minds. read more

Went here last night for my birthday, and it may be the worst restaurant experience I've ever had. Our food took over an hour to get to the table, and when it did, most of the meals were cold. My husband's steak was also well done, instead of the medium that was ordered. The manager, dressed inappropriately, came over after we'd already been waiting an hour and said the food would be up in 8 minutes, and when we pointed out how long we'd already been waiting, she claimed to have only just been informed of the problem then rolled her eyes at our complaints and walked away. The waiter wasn't terrible, but didn't really come back to check on us or refill any waters, not that I can blame him (I wouldn't want to spend a ton of time at an unhappy table either). BTW, I have a decade of waiting tables under my belt, and I like to give people the benefit of the doubt, but this was too much. Never going back here. read more

I like this restaurant, the food is good, but there's clearly something with the way it's being run. They have an extremely high turnover rate with their employees. I go here frequently and I never see the same waiters more than once. They always have signs up that they're looking for wait staff and bartenders. So, is the management mistreating the employees?
