We were up in Big Bear for the week. Found this place off other Yelpers! So happy we tried it. Small unique diner with delicious food. We actually went twice. Although the wait can be a bit they are super fast. I had the waffle combo the second time we went. delicious. Had a bite the first time and just had to come back for it again. Also had the sausage patty. OMG this was next level. Biscuits and gravy were also delicious. My daughter liked the waffle as well. My son and his wife liked the enormous pancake! Happy Fathers Day! Or at least it is now that we're finally eating breakfast over an hour after we had hoped we would be.. and not at Grizzly Manor either. Here's why: we arrived at 9:50 for breakfast, 6 adults and my 2 year old. We put our name in, and were told it would be 45 minutes. 50 minutes in the heat outside goes by. (Two of the adults are in their 80's mind you.) We're really hungry lol. Two 4 seater tables finally open up in this tiny place. A small family of 3 shows up and knows the hostess (pixie haircut and piercings, don't know her name but can't miss her.) she waves them in and gets them one of the 4 seaters, no wait for friends I guess! 2 minutes later a third 4 seater opens up in the same row but she sat her friends at the one right in the middle. So they call our name and then tell us we have to separate our family to get seated and take the two 4 seaters on opposite ends of the table they gave away. They don't give a (insert your favorite curse word here). I guess it's okay though because they warn you on their menu that the staff might be moody lol! A great scapegoat for terrible service. Never again. Here's a tip to anyone reading: go literally 1 minute west down the road and eat at the first restaurant you see. They were phenomenal! read more

Been here a few times in my life and each time it has been memorable. First off, the place is super tiny. If you are a big person like I am, you will likely feel like a canned sardine, but once you are over that one minor snag, you will have a whole lot to enjoy here. Namely the portion sizes of everything. The waffles and pancakes here are ginormous. I ordered one side pancake and couldn't even eat it all after finishing my 1/2 sized plate of biscuit and gravy. So keep in mind, if they offer a 1/2 plate that means their full plate can probably feed two people and the half can feed one. Get here early because the place gets packed after 8 or 9. Honestly I would rate it 4.5 and if they had a patio or more of a spaced out floorplan I would bump it up to a perfect 5. read more

Good old Grizzly Manor Cafe! Yes, it's a Big Bear institution that you must visit. The cafe is small and busy with a fun local vibe. Expect long waits due to its small size, but the food is so filling and delicious with huge portions and the fun and "sassy" friendly staff make it well worth the wait (shoutout to Charlie, who always made our family's visits memorable). Our family's go-to favorites that we recommend are: The Sissy Boy, The Mess, and The Blob. Really, anything you order is going to be delicious and LOTS of it! If it's your first visit here, a few helpful tips for you: go early before 9am or after 11am, and avoid weekends if you can as they are very busy. Come hungry as the portions are large. Hungry? Well, let me give you some advice, try breakfast here. Every order I saw served came on at least two large plates. I ordered their pork chops and egg breakfast, only able to eat about half. One plate was was two thick and juicy chops and a ton of perfect hash browns. The other plate had two thick slices of tasty sourdough toast and a couple of large eggs, served over easy; they were cooked to perfection. Service was beyond amazing even though this little joint was packed, the crew was happy, the music was perfect if you like lively tunes, even the cooks made appearances to circulate with the customers. My wife and I agreed, they all love their jobs, and the restaurant; they were having too much fun the morning we were there. It was a pleasure to behold. To Amanda, Doug, mary, Christina, and Max... yall are amazing !!! I just want to start there because you can tell there is just a rhythm when you work together. Now this Cafe holds true to the tradition of classic cafe's. I asked how long it's been open and it was in the 1950's and over the years it turned into a diner. There's some great history here and I love that they hold to the value of the classic diner breakfasts. Now it can get packed quick so you want to get there early, parking has a good amount of spots and there is a good amount of seating but if there is a wait ... I'd hang tight because it was worth it. Food wise you could not go wrong with country fried steak and eggs, I got the corn beef hash, you can ask to add sausage to you biscuits and gravy and their sourdough is perfect. Grizzly manor isn't anything special, but as the food options are limited in Big Bear - many flock here for a classic American breakfast. The restaurant is small, tight, cramped, filled with eclectic stickers that will have you staring at the walls. Parties over four are not recommended and you'll likely be five inches from the next party over. Not a restaurant for those that dislike crowds and cramped spaces. Visitors are warned of the long wait times (so keep that in mind!!!) It was a 35 minutes to get seated (not bad). A table seated after us were helped with their drinks and orders without anyone paying any attention to us. I wasn't too sure why we're getting ignored even though we made eye contact with the waitress...and we were immediately adjacent to the table helped before us. Eventually, 15 minutes after we had not been helped, I walked up to ask for service. We were helped shortly after by a nice waitress who im sure could tell we were all very annoyed. Some of our waters came after ordering and some came after all the food arrived. Interesting. The food was decent and well priced, but really nothing special that warrants a visit if this restaurant wasn't located in a spot with slim pickings. They only have one waitress, which is also interesting given business is always booming (hence the long wait times). There is an automatic 18% gratuity for parties over 5 (usually it's 6 in other establishments). This is not something I'd be normally bat an eye to, but for subpar service, it's definitely not something I'm pleased with. Overall: Food ok, wait is long, service is mid. read more

I got to try the grizz as I'd like to say it. This is a classic breakfast food place located in the heart of the Main Street of big bear. I would first like to say you go here mainly for the ambience, breakfast here is good though not out of this world good in my humble opinion. I think the location was once a house turned into a cozy breakfast spot. I do like the atmosphere of a small kitchen in the middle. And walls covered in stickers and pictures. The cool thing is you can leave a sticker or memento place it on the wall and perhaps see it again on your next visit. For food I orders the sissy boy breakfast combo. Yeah call me a sissy because one giant pancake is enough to feed me and my two boys and still not finish it. I got the strawberry pancake which was good. Along with eggs and turkey sausage. The turkey sausage was little disappointing for those who don't eat pork, being that it was pretty bland. We were lucky enough to stay at an Airbnb that was a 5 minute walk from Grizzly Manor. It was busy on a Sunday morning, as expected, but we were able to put our name down, go back home, and then come back with the rest of our party. They estimated a 1.5 hour wait for a party of 8 and let us know we'd be separated, which was okay with us. We returned in an hour, but our name had been called by then. The waitress was extremely nice and sat us right away even though we missed our time as there were 2 tables available. Later on, the table next to us left before our food had come and they let the other half of our party move next to us! All the food here is big portions and delicious! My sister and I shared the blob and didn't even finish it. We also tried the Rudy scramble, chicken fried steak, and pancakes (buttermilk, blueberry, and chocolate chip).
