    Chicken shawarma
    Karim J.

Not very often do I see a Mediterranean restaurant with a bar. This place is quite the hole in the wall (doesn't look like much on the outside, but is nice and spacious inside). I've had a salad from here to go and a chicken shawarma, both being very good. One thing about their chicken shawarma I found interesting was that it was ground/chopped instead of strips of chicken, but I really liked it. The sandwich was big, but not super dense or heavy. Definitely recommend if you work nearby and need a satisfying lunch.

    The Boss.

I forgot how awesome and delicious this place is! Tons of options to choose from! Pitas, pita melts, Mediterranean food, salads etc! And everything is 'make your mouth drool' good! My boyfriend and I stopped in last night for a quick bite to eat. You can dine in or carry out. They expanded the restaurant and opened up a dinning room within the last few years. We were quickly greeted by Joe, who also took our order. I ordered 'The Boss' which is a pita melt with chicken, ham, bacon, cheese, onions, BBQ and honey Dijon sauce. So good! We also ordered hummus and pita bread. Pretty big portion for $4.99! We got a carry out and even were asked if we wanted to sit down and have a couple glasses of water while we wait. Top notch service. Menu is very detailed on the walls and staff can easily answer any and all of your questions. Typical prices for a sandwich type shop. Definitely will return really soon!

The restaurant itself is pretty basic -- mostly a bar atmosphere with a smaller dining area. Since we had our kids with us, we chose to sit in the dining section instead of the bar area. Our waitress was fast and friendly and went out of her way to get kids menus printed up so the kids could color. My husband ordered the Corned Beef Sandwich, and I got the Corned Beef Dinty Sandwich. We also split an order of curly fries. For the kids, we ordered the cheeseburger meals and a chicken tender meal. Everything came out quickly, and the food was really good. The sandwiches were huge! Overall, it was a great first visit, and we would definitely return.

Every time I return to the Clinton Township area, I go here! Consistent, friendly, and mouth wateringly delicious! Now, let me preface, I cannot speak for the vast majority of their menu, but...if you ain't gettin their legendary corned beef...then you ain't doing it right!! It was a day like any other I had gone there. Friendly staff and a much loved sports bar environment smacking of the old mom and pop vibes you can come to expect from many local establishments. The Corned beef is STACKED! You definitely get what you paid for. Slather some horseradish on that puppy and you just got yourself a one way ticket to the gates of the divine. I will also wholeheartedly endorse their onion rings. Crispy and crunchy on the outside that hides glorious onion slices within! I have yet to find another establishment that comes close to their onion rings. If you are craving a corned beef sandwich, well, you might want to head on down to Jimmy Dee's and meet the masters!

Food: The food here is so good. I love the "pick two"…read morebecause it lets me live my best life without committing to just one thing. I always go chicken sandwich + Cajun pasta or gumbo. The salads are huge, but they are very onion forward, so just a heads up if onions aren't your thing. Shrimp comes piled on top of some dishes and you can add or remove it. Also worth noting, nothing is overly spicy, just solid flavor that doesn't knock you out. Service: The staff is genuinely kind and super accommodating. You can tell it's family owned. Everyone seems to care and wants you to enjoy your meal. Ambiance: The space is cute and Creole themed. It's cozy, casual. Easy 5 stars for me, this place is a gem and I'll keep coming back for sure.

The…read moreinterior has been remodeled and looks great, love the dark layout and the huge dining room, however the food remains touch and go. Certain dishes are great, others not. Got a huge bread basket that looked empty, when peering in, two small pieces of stale french bread smothered in Saran wrap were visible. Shame all that wasted space. C'mon Gumbo. Don't skimp on the bread. Serve it fresh too! During past dining experiences, the fried shrimp and hushpuppies were much larger. During this visit they were midget sized, like they were "cooking to a price point". That said, Gumbo's always excelled at frying and they tasted great. The fried catfish was dredged in cornmeal and flour. It tasted as good as catfish can taste, considering slimy-stank taste is natural to a bottom feeder and next to impossible to cook out. If you like catfish, gather up a chair, you're in the right place. The gumbo was watery with small dices of sausage and more midget shrimp. The broth had little taste. Mediocre gumbo is a misdemeanor violation. I wrote Gumbo's a ticket on that one. The cajun pasta was very good. In the old days they used bowtie pasta in a thick creamy sauce smacked with Cajun decadence and big ole' shrimps. Today they used penne (not a big deal, but it cheapens the dish) in a disappointly watery sauce with a few midget shrimp. It still tasted good but it quite clear at this point Gumbo's was cooking to a price point. The STAR OF THE SHOW was the shrimp crawfish etouffee. Wow! Thick, creamy, rich gravy with a heavenly base of toasted roux having notes of roasted peanut. They got that one right, midget shrimps and all. I want another bowl NOW! DIATRIBE ALERT: Service wasn't terrible but far from exceptional. The new generation of wait staff expects big tips for mediocre service, like we should should be honored by their presence. I always tip large despite my general grumpiness. Problem is, tipping culture has gotten out of hand. It's become a bottomless pit of greed. Front and back staff with their hands out perpetually. Cash registers programmed to induce tip guilt. Dirty looks for not tipping a carry-out order. CARRY-OUT RULES: If I don't sit down to eat, I ain't tipping your ass. Go back to Nursing School or something like that. Why should the customer pick up the slack for an industry refusing to pay employees a decent wage? SUMMARY: Love the vibe. Like the food. Gumbo's was clearly cooking to a price point. Midget shrimp? Sacriledge. New Orleans ain't like that.

I was disappointed with my first trip there for lunch yesterday. I ordered the spinach pie special, which included soup, salad, or coleslaw and came with rice. I ordered the soup of the day, cabbage. Cabbage soup is normally quite brothy. This was thickened, which isn't a plus. Worse yet, it was barely warm so I sent it back to be heated. The flavor was decent, though the thickener was obvious. The spinach pie piece was thick and I liked the filling. I didn't like the bottom crust being so overcooked and dry that I couldn't cut through it. I expected the rice would either be plain or have a tomato based sauce. It came with a floury yellow glop that had maybe a tiny bit of lemon. The fresh decaf was really acid and I didn't drink much of it. My friend ordered a chicken strip pita and was pleased. Service was good, not exceptional. One last thing...they have several TVs and the first side I sat at had Fox News playing. Since I was waiting for my friend I couldn't leave, but I voted with my feet by moving to the other side of the restaurant where OWN network was on.

I'll eat here, but not as often as i would if they polished up their menu/execution. The chicken dishes, all of them, are terrible. They advertise "tender chicken cut into slices," but if you look at any of the pics on here, it's all the same - tiny, little chicken bits, dry and overcooked. The more obscure dishes are the way to go. They fail hard on the basics, but hit home runs on their more unheard of menu items. If you've never heard of something, but it sounds good - that's what you should order here. Chicken lemon rice: 3/10 Not enough chicken, lemon tastes artificial and weird, soup is bland. I've had better CLR at most any coney island. Chicken Gyro: 3/10 Chicken was dry, the orzo was dry and overcooked, tziki sauce was thick and lacked flavor. Plenty of chicken... I would have rather had less chicken, cooked better. I haven't seen their chicken kabob, but it seems like this place uses the thick part of their breast for the kabobs, and uses the scraps bits for all of their other dishes. Grape Leaves: 7/10 Good flavor, good sauce... wish the CLR soup tasted as good as the sauce from the grape leaves. Stifado: 9/10 Excellent dish. Good amount of beef, great flavor, nice stew. This is the dish that I would come back for. Bread basket: Bread: 4/10 - they serve the bread ice cold. Olive oil: 9/10 - excellent flavor, super light, nice lemon zest Service: 8.5/10 - good job. They had one guy for all 8 or so tables, but did he did a good job covering them. The busser/assistant did a good job at keeping our waters and bread full, but he tries to carry too much, and it causes a big distraction (glasses clunking, nearly falling over, re-stacking)... sometimes two trips is better than one... He also says "of course" (pet peeve) when someone says "thank you." Perhaps I'm weird, but I find that terribly dismissive, and off-putting.
