TL;DR: One of the least responsive, least honest, least effective services I have ever encountered! We bought a home with a pool, and the previous owners had been paying the Pool Doctor to service it. We took over the contract about 5 months ago. Since then, the Pool Doctor has: 1) Sent people weekly to open the gate, walk into the property, turn around, and leave. They did not realize we have cameras. They charged the previous owner for months of visits that lasted 30 seconds and did nothing. They left weekly slips claiming that they had done work they had not done. 2) Sent about 5 different technicians over the course of 5 months. Although the owner of the Pool Doctor knows about our pool's specific requirements, he didn't share them with the techs. There was one experienced tech who showed up briefly, but he wasn't informed about our specific pool so made errors. 3) Installed a floating chlorine dispenser without asking or informing us. They did not secure the floater as is recommended by the manufacturer. Floaters are not recommended for this type of pool. The floater got caught under the cover at the stairs and stained the steps. 4) Spent the last three months refusing to talk about how to repair the steps. They've said a) it wasn't their fault, b) ok, it was their fault but they would soon to fix it, c) not called for months, d) ignored repeated calls and emails, and e) refused multiple different suggestions for how to fix the problem. Use Victor at the Pool Master, or anyone else. The Pool Doctor did not do any of the work we paid them to do, they did not upgrade our plan as we asked and asked us to call in to activate it, they never balanced any chemicals in the pool, they threw in chlorine once a week only, they left our filter so backed up it exploded. We asked for help and guidance over and over, to no avail. Everyone professional who has come out to take over the job has been horrified at how badly the job was done, the lack of care take with the chemicals, the lack of proper advice. I truly regret hiring them. They always had a reason they didn't do the job; they seemed, at times, to be unaware of what the job entailed. They are great at emailing back, the only thing done well. First off, the pool situation was never resolved with The Pool Doctor and despite them saying that they were sorry about the communication issues with us, they didn't actually follow up with our requests to get the pool pump re-inspected. Also, if we're being quite clear I did, as quoted below in my previous review speak with The Pool Doctor's employees on several occasions. "Our experience with this place is both a reflection of my father's and my direct interactions with this company." As I was present at ALL instances they were scheduled to arrive; whether or not they actually did show up is another story. So, if they're going to try to degrade my review, by all means try but I'm presenting an objective review of your service. Furthermore, I noted in my review that I was willing to work with them to resolve the issue and update my review to reflect their work. However, with no follow up from them it indicated to me that they did not care after charging us around $800 to do two chlorine bombs and sweep up some leaves for ~40 minutes. I should state though, they did look at the pool pump and gave us some tips on how to better use it but did not resolve the issue with the pool pump not working. All of these issues combined was the reason I chose to leave a review detailing our complaints and warning others. read more

I read some reviews from before this time but the owners of the last several years are top notch and provide great Customer Service. If you see bad reviews, check the dates, might be from the prior regime. Gary and crew are great. This is a great group of honest folks. I used these folks about 5-6 years ago when I decided to upgrade all of my pool pumps to variable speed pumps to save money on electricity. They were able to change my panel and pumps but let me keep my Salt generators that I already had so I can save a bunch of money. A great tech, Husein, came out to do the work and he did a great job. He did such a great job that I didn't need pool service for 6 years. Well, May 29, 2018 comes along and my pool pumps weren't working right so I called the Pool Doctor again and the same tech, Husein, comes out. It's nice to know that he was still there so he works for a stable company and he knows what he's doing. In a minute or two, he felt he knew what was going on but continued to check everything to be sure. He was right and since he left, everything has been great. Believe it or not, my problem was mainly having old filters, he could have gouged me but he didn't! You get a person that is honest and knows what they are doing, everything is fast and easy. I am upset about one thing though! I spent days trying to figure this out when he took seconds to figure it out. He should have struggled a little bit with it to save me some pride. I just wish I would have called earlier! No question, when I need help with my pool stuff, I'm calling them earlier. If you get this Husein guy, consider yourself lucky! read more

I have been a customer of The Pool Doctor for about a decade, and they have come to my rescue on numerous occasions, as well as doing a great job with regular pool servicing. Every time I am about to throw a pool party, something inevitably goes wrong with the pool pump, heater or sweep, and I call them in a panic. This past week they showed up within the hour on a non-service day and fixed the problem right there, even going beyond the repair to vacuum the pool for that fresh party look. I've had them service, repair, and replace the parts on my pool/spa, and they are always knowledgeable, competitive, and responsive. I love my pool service guys too! These guys are the best. True experts in their field. We bought a house in El Sobrante in 2002 and it came with a pool. Problem was all the equipment was installed decades ago and none of it worked very well. After coming over a full evaluation, they recommended a new pump (more efficient, multi speed), a new heater, and a new control panel (all digital). Installation and parts were all supplied by them. Their offer was extremely reasonable. The pool is now updated and runs great. All parts work great and they helped us learn how to use them. Now my electric bill is less, pool is sparkling clean and warm whenever we want it. The folks at the Pool Doctor are super nice and professional. They deliver to my door, so when I needed a new brush and leaf net, they offered to bring it to my door and bill me later. Highly recommended for ALL your pool needs. read more

I had ordered a spa cover over the internet, which was delivered damaged (after I'd waited 6 weeks for it). After that bad experience, I decided to just buy a cover locally, and found The Pool Doctor via a Google search. I had a lovely conversation with the folks in the Pool Doctor office, and they sent out a representative within a couple of days to measure the tub and bring color swatches. They followed up on the telephone to confirm the order... and then I got my cover DELIVERED in less than a week. The entire experience was extremely pleasant, professional, and efficient. As an asterisk: when Gary delivered the cover, he accidentally made a slit in the side when he cut off the covering plastic. He took full responsibility, offered me the option of a repair or a replacement, and came back quickly and made the repair based on the manufacturer's instructions, and credited me the cost of delivery and pickup of the old cover. Pool Dr installed a spa power box which soon after malfunctioned interminably ... when informed of this continuing problem they were "too busy" to come out and repair. Called them repeatedly but they stalled and stonewalled until 90 day warranty expired. Box stopped functioning altogether within a year, Called again for them to diagnose and repair their work .. informed they were too busy during summer months. The pool doctor is great, I needed a new salt cell and remote controllers all which would have cost thousands of dollars, but the service tech made a phone call to a friend of his at the manufacturer and got them to give us all free equipment even though our warranty was up, so I only had to pay for the Labor! Unfortunately I would love to leave a raving review, however I cannot. I have been receiving their services for a few years now and have been very unhappy, but trapped since there are few, almost no other companies that service our area. Our pool is salt water and has special flooring, and if not taken care of by scrubbing weekly on a consistent basis it becomes dirty and that dirt remains in the flooring. When brought to the owners attention, they defended their employees and did nothing about trying to ensure our pool was and is being cleaned. Very nice people e owners are, and I think its commendable to do that, however if the customer is unhappy and filing a complaint, it should be taken seriously. Our pool surface continues to deteriorate, and our hands are tied, a paying customer but receiving horrible service. I watched our pool guy, a nice guy, come service our pool, he grabbed the brush walked around the pool never even having used the brush and then went and put it back. Caught him in the act, I asked him, and he lied right to me. I told him I was watching him, and he still lied this is just unacceptable. Again, our hands are tied, because we have to have the service. Again, the team personally are very nice, professionally they have been able to fix broken equipment, etc. However, those are one time things, lets talk continual weekly service, this is where the problem lies. I surely wish there was something more that could be done. Hopefully others have had better servicing, this was just my experience that I want to share. read more

I have now been on the receiving end of the argumentiveness, rudeness, and refusal to accept responsibility, the likes of which I have never experienced in connection with a home repair or service. I am now searching for someone honest, reliable and competent to repair my non-working hot tub, which seems to be a big challenge in the Bay Area. I will never use The Pool Doctor's services again, and would not recommend them to anyone. They are on the list of "Diamond Certified" companies. I have learned that some of these companies choose to have a third party contact customers to find out about their experiences. Other companies self-select what they report, and The Pool Doctor is one of them. We hired Miracle Method to first repair the crack created by The Pool Doctor's technician, and they did an outstanding job for a modest amount of money. Sharon the owner is so argumentative too, its unbelievable how they treat their customers.
