Odd/hostile experience working with Dakota and Andrew at Sullivan. There was minor damage to the cover of our hot tub on a service call and instead of accountability, Dakota blamed the age of the cover. It was a strange mix of defensiveness and blame on the call itself. We had an issue with the tub draining after a power outage and Sullivan saying that was impossible unless there is a leak or crack. Ok, well if it is a leak and crack then possibly inspect those areas as a service/repair service? I'm not an expert in hot tubs. We purchased a house that had a new hot tub installed, and the continued response of the hot tub being old for the reason why the damage occurred is weird. The middle part of the cover was also ripped apart from the seams and there was minimal accountability there as well. The new Operations Manager had a weird, defensive response as pictured below. You can be the judge if this is an off response to damages in an inspection and repair. The hot tub after servicing is also still leaking. We needed to hire another local servicer to do this repair work who properly described what might be the issue BEFORE coming out to work on the hot tub. read more

Sullivan Waterworks usually works on hot tubs, but we have them working on our very old spa. Michael came last year for the 1st time and did such a good job we hired Sullivan to come yearly to empty the spa, clean it, and inspect all equipment. This year the jets would come on and then slow to a trickle. Michael was not going to leave until he got them all working correctly. He was here for over 3 hrs. and finally got them all going strong. A big shout out to Michael for his hard work and to Sullivan Waterworks for great customer service. Could not recommend them more highly. read more

Great company! Very honest! I had a really hard time getting someone out to repair the leak on our hot tub. They showed up when they said they would and they made the repair. I have a really old hot tub and Sean and his team have been great in keeping it running. Just recently the tub had a leak, and it was challenging to figure out how to fix. I was hoping for more. I reached out to Sullivan Waterworks in January, explaining that I've had trouble with my hot tub chemistry (the tub was about 7 years old) and hoping they'd partner with me to get things on track. After each visit, I emailed them that the water turned murky and would they help me trouble shoot. Team members and Sean had contrasting advice on how to solve my issues. After paying a total of $1,000 between drain and refill, replacing the ozonator, and 3 months of monthly service, I gave up. Sullivan replied they could drain and refill again at a reduced cost. After I'd already invested $1K-- the discount amounted to too little, too late. Seems to me they just wanted a routine going through the moves, but not to take me on as a customer with a more complex issue to solve. Disappointing. read more

I am very happy with the job that Nate did for me. I met once with Sean and he made himself available by phone when I had questions, and I appreciate that. Nate's work was incredibly clean. I've had a long history with Sullivan. At first, it was just him and the maintenance was extremely inconsistent. Communication was the same. Then he hired, and the normal maintenance of the tub water was done very well. I can't remember his name, but the guy doing the service was really nice, relaxed and competent. Unlike others in these reviews, my experience with mechanical maintenance done by Sullivan was abysmal. Bad communication, incorrect recommendations, etc. A response you might read will be along the lines of "he didn't pay his bill" - which is true of the last service period because it took me months to get a callback and resolution. They issued an invoice which was being filtered by a system I use to kill various kinds of spam and newsletters, so I didn't see it. Instead of calling to ask about it - months later he *showed up at my house as I was moving out WHICH IS SUPER WEIRD AND CREEPY* So, yeah, I'd pick another vendor. I think the people that work for him are great but Sean Sullivan isn't running his business professionally. read more

So pleased to be able to give an A+ review to Sean and his team, since I've felt like I've not been happy with previous hot tub repair folks. My hot tub died just after the New Year in the depth of the cold and rain. Sean was able to get someone out right away to do a diagnosis: looks like the pump was installed improperly by the last tech and the seal leaked water onto the pump and shorted it out. Since my pump requires a very specific type of pump, this is a very expensive repair, alas. Sean was extremely up front and informative about the costs (and the reason for the costs), got his guys out there as soon as there was a little break in the weather, and had me back up and running quickly. There was a tiny hiccup with the guys leaving a box of leftover materials on my deck -- when I called him, he apologized and came by himself to pick it up. I feel 100% satisfied with everything about the service: the quick responsiveness, the clarity of the communication the customer service focus. I had a series of very helpful emails with the owner. After I sent pictures, he gave me an estimate that was one third less than the estimate given by another company. Sean and Liam came out promptly, installed a new pump, discussed the whole system with me and offered some ideas for the future. Since he was out of town and unresponsive to my "heater doesn't work and I am freaking out and can't figure out how any of this stuff works" incident, Sean has been really responsive in helping out with what's a manufacturing issue on the heating element for the hot tub. He seems to have permanently fixed it by hacking it himself, and will soon be installing a Nest-style system so that I can turn on the hot tub from my phone! Yay for the Internet of Things. Very impressed with the service level! After initial contact, once Sean knew more about my problem, he directed me to a site with instructions to fix the possible issue. That worked, but then i found a leak so he still needed to come and help. He took care of the leak, replaced my pump which was failing. Went with all the great reviews for Sean and his business and called to set up an appt. His voice mail recording says to contact him by email which I did. He suggested a time and date which I agreed upon but once I requested a simple, general price quote for his time to assess the situation, I never got a reply. His suggested time/date came and went. Hmm... so I emailed him again, stating I wanted to make an appt as soon as he answered my question and never got a reply. I expected to pay a pretty penny for his time and work but I guess he didn't like to answer honestly? Or he thought I was being cheap? Poor business communication if you ask me. I called him on March 4th and got his recording that directed you to contact him via e-mail which I did. I left a message saying that our hot tub was not working and that we needed to get it fixed as our house will be shortly put on the market. Now, four days later, no response. So now I have wasted four days waiting for a response. Poor customer service. If you don't want work at least say so in your recording. read more

We are "elders" living in the Montclair District in the Oakland Hills. We asked Sullivan Water Works to replace an aging backyard deck redwood hot tub we have enjoyed for decades. Dear spouse is a Physical Therapist for whom evening hot tub sessions have been important to maintaining physical health. We knew that a redwood replacement tub was financially unrealistic., Sean suggested "Yellow Alaskan Cedar" as an alternative - we chose that. It is the densest of the cedars available, hence longest potential service. It's beautiful when installed, though it will fade to gray over time. Sean's installation was efficient & prompt; he used virtually all of our pre-existing plumbing, heater & water pump, a major saving. He took time to answer all of our questions, even those that in retrospect were not relevant. Out ageing (outdoor, gas fired) heater failed. Sean diagnosed the problem (that two other service techs did not) and the heater is working well now. Sean will work with you. I can say you will learn to trust him. read more

Later when I realized it was leaking a but he came back, checked it out and gave me very solid advice that led to the leak being fixed - No charge. I have had several dealings with other hot tub repair people that led me to believe they are all crooks and think i am rich and deserve to be ripped off for having a hot tub. I found it really hard to find a spa repair guy in the bay area. Sullivan was very responsive over the phone and showed up when they said they would. They charge $100/hour which is a lot but oh well (the next person I called said they were $125/hr). In less than an hour's time they had repaired my hot tub, showed me how to fix it if it broke again, and gave me a few tips to keep it clean without tons of work. I can't ask for more than that! read more

My hot tub wasn't working when I flipped the breaker on, so I called Sean at Sullivan Waterworks and he was finishing up a job only 10 minutes away, so he was literally her in 15 minutes and had the thing fixed in 20 minutes. He showed me the breaker that gets tripped by the moisture detector on the control panel so I could flip it myself next time it happened, and didn't charge me the full maintenance call price since he was already close.
