When I first got my pups, Healthy Pet was the only place where I could find natural food options for dogs. So that leads me to believe they are in the know on what's best for your pets, before other stores do. Another reason I like coming here, are the free roaming cats. No, I'm not a crazy cat lady!! It's fun when for me when I come across one, and a couple are very friendly and like to be pet. This is something I like because my daughter is allergic to cats and I can no longer have kitties in my place. Years ago, my father brought me here and we discovered they had cats available for adoption. Of course I fell in love with one and had to have her. The process and what they required for someone to adopt was a bit strict. They will not let you adopt if you plan on letting the cat out. At least back then they wouldn't. We got a lecture on the dangers of letting a cat outdoors and we had to swear we'd keep her inside. I thought this was a bit much. But when the lecture was over and I swore I'd keep her inside, I left with a kitty. They have a program for pet food, where if you buy ten bags, you get one free. I personally think this is a good deal. The pet bed and leash/harness selection isn't great, but they have enough. They have bulk bird food I buy for both my outside bird feeders and my inside parakeet, who has a preference for their bird food. They have a nice fish selection, both salt water and fresh. And they still have a cat adoption clinic, in their store. Every time I go there, there are quite a few available. If you're looking for specialty dog food brands, or the usual brands, and a more personal form of customer service, this is a nice place. I'm giving four stars and not five because of their requirements for cat adoptions, semi limited hours, and lack of non food dog items such as leashes etc. Oh, the cat I adopted, Sophie. She lived to be 13 and was an outdoor cat her whole life. She could often be found under the lilac tree or on the walkway getting a cat tan, often accompanied by the other outdoor cats of the neighborhood.

The- shelter tested her with cats after I left and we all made the decision Pearl would not be a good fit- she was very tense around the cat they introduced her to. The employees were SUPER patient and kind, which i appreciated because I was indecisive and nervous (but excited) about adding another cat to our household. The setup to meet cats is unusual-- you go into the room behind the cat cages and can open them one at a time to meet the animals. I thought it was a really good setup. We were asked to wash our hands in between times to avoid spreading germs. They also have reading rooms where you can sit and read to extra shy cats to help socializing them. I didn't look at dogs, but it seemed like they were working hard to take good care of them and socialize them as well. I think if we ever decide to get another animal I'd try here.

Vetrinary clinic would not quote spay or neuter pricing without a 1st visit appointment. The only good thing I can report is that they do allow early/spay neuter for kittens. It is difficult to find a vet clinic that will do that so if the office visit pricing wasn't so ridiculous, I would definitely go here.

The owner seems like she honestly cares about the animals but she disregards many employee concerns. It is not an ideal place to work. Employees are often not communicated with until last minute about staying beyond their designated shift and they are asked to perform tasks well outside of their hired job description. For example, incubating and raising ducks and chickens inside the bathroom of the business. This also led to the heat lamp blowing from being left on all the time, and causing a small fire that was thankfully caught by another employee before it caused any damage to people, the dogs or the building. The ducks and chickens remained even after. The entire bathroom was virtually unusable as the ducks and chickens were allowed to roam around defecating on the floor.

Monthly visits work best for me, and I gladly drive 35-45 minutes each way because I wouldn't trust anyone else with this task. A word of caution regarding any unfavorable reviews: They are poppycock. Professionalism isn't always warm and fuzzy and f you would rather hear flattering words while dealing with sloppy grooming, tardiness, and inconsistency, go somewhere else. We know that their health and well-being are the top priority at MAH. Dr. Rice takes as much time as we need to examine our pups, answer our questions, and provide thorough and easy-to-understand assessments, guidance, and suggestions to us. The clinical and support staff here are just as great...and believe me, we put them through their paces. They're not the closest. Their not the fanciest. But they are the best!

She would have to be sedated to be examined and groomed. It was traumatic for her, for us, and I presume the vet techs. Dr. Nolan and Christine came to the house, they sedated her while she was relaxed and snoozing---they worked quickly, compassionately and thoroughly and they were FAR LESS EXPENSIVE than the previous vet. I can't say enough positive things about them. For as long as we have Ginger, we'll be a client. They are busy though, so plan on approximately 30 days or so to get an appointment. Well worth it.

They carry only high quality dog and cat food, as well as treats and supplies. It's always nice to see that. They also seem to have the coolest kitty condos - they aren't like the ones you'll see in the chain stores, they're pretty unique looking - and comparably priced (I think I'm going back for one of those!). The guy who runs the shop is really nice and there are a couple of friendly cats who roam the store as well. There is a kitten rescue organization through here, Kitten Angels, and I think they have adoption clinics on Saturdays. We decided to rescue our cats through here and introduced them to our dog with our trainer present; the store was very accommodating. We ended up with two adorable little kittens - one black, one calico - and our house is now quite an exciting place with two cats and a dog. :-) The rescue fee was $100 which doesn't even come close to covering their costs of spaying and having the cats up to date on their shots. I believe some of the cats who aren't in the store are in foster care. It seems like a really good organization and it's nice to see them working with Delmar Pet Supply.
