For fine dining in Baltimore, it's good but nothing special. There's nothing on the menu that will blow you away- typical steak house menu which was a little disappointing. The lamb was well cooked and flavorful and the potato skins were nice but overall, pretty outdated and overpriced! I had an early date here (5:30pm) recently and we had a great time. The ambience of this spot is so comforting and the service cannot be beat; stunning. Thanks, to a dear friend who traveled from Atlanta and recommended this restaurant, I celebrated my birthday at the Prime Rib on Sunday evening. This is an upscale restaurant with a mature crowd. The live band in the dinner area is a great touch. Nathan was our wonderful server and he was very knowledgeable about the menu. He knew a lot of the history of the restaurant and suggested great food options. He was engaging and exceed exceptional customer service. I ordered the house salad which was very tasty! I also had the pineapple martini which was ok. I opted for a glass of Malbec to end the night which was a great choice. I ordered the USDA Prime Filet with the Lobster Tail .This was definitely the best steak I've had and the spices and taste was out of this world! Wow! I also ordered sautéed spinach and that was also tasty. Nathan had heard I was celebrating a birthday and brought out a dessert with candle on it. That really made me feel special. Everything about The Prime Rib is top tier! They have valet parking which is so convenient- it's kind of hard to find street parking, depending on what night you go on. When you walk in, you're greeted and seated pretty quickly. The bar was full when I came in, which told me that the drinks were probably good (I'm not a drinker), and there was a jazz musician playing near the bar. Once seated, our waiter, Solomon, learned everyone's names and didn't forgot for the entire time we were there! He was so attentive all throughout and even brought over Benadryl for a guest that had an allergic reaction. I ordered the sea bass which was so buttery and fluffy (I'm drooling just thinking about it). We also ordered apps and veggie sides for the table. There was honestly nothing that I didn't like there. I will warn you- the dollar signs don't lie. Expect to pay at least $100 for your meal, but I promise, it's worth it for a fancy night out! I've rarely been as disappointed as I was with my experience at The Prime Rib and it's painful to type those words. The crab cake was bland and had shell in it, and to be honest, at those prices shell shouldn't have been anywhere near my crab cake. The Greenberg potato skins were okay although the dipping sauce was broken and I don't know why I expected things to get better. Service was atrocious, the staff seemed angry there weren't more guests and my dinner companion remarked that she'd never had such an experience in a place where we'd both been coming for years. They were kind enough to accommodate our large party on a Tuesday evening to celebrate a birthday. Free garage valet, huge plus. The place still smells kind of musty at the entrance. Inside is cozy and warm. Live music, very attentive service. They have a standard menu and they do it well. The title of this review is, "just order take out" We went to The Prime Rib this past Saturday, November 19th to celebrate my dads 60th birthday. When you think of the prime rib, you think "old school, white table cloth, high end food and expert service". This experience was quite the opposite. Upon arriving at 7pm, our server completely ignored us for the first 15 minutes. When we finally got our wine, we requested that a certain bottle be opened, but he insisted that we start with the other bottle first. After that, he ran away for another 20 minutes. When we finally got him over to us to put in our dinner entrees, if someone didn't order a prime rib, he made a rude comment and said "thats not what people come here for". He was rude and condescending the entire night. When we finally finished eating, we were eager to get the check and get out of there given that it took 2 1/2 hours to "enjoy" this experience. However, I will say, the food was pretty good. Is it worth it to get take out? Maybe, but it's typically never as good. Is it worth going back to the prime rib? Absolutely not. Long story short, if you're looking to spend $800+ on a dinner... and actually want to enjoy it...Go somewhere else. True to form & mission, the Prime Rib delivered impeccable service, food, & beverage in an authentic " Rat Pack Era" style steak house way. Manager, Chavez, greeted our party of 10 at the entrance. Everyone got a drink at the beautifully appointed and stocked bar; Boulevardiers, Manhattan's, & Cosmos were the group's cocktails of choice. Our waiter, Brian, met us at the bar to greet us and inform us that our table was ready when we were but, of course, at our leisure. We were sat in the back of the first dining room to the strains of the three piece Jazz Combo that filled the room with the sounds of Friday night, not too loud, not to soft, just right. We were sat at the black the black leather banquet 5 on a side. Brian made sure everyone had a drink or if any were ready for another. He took care of those requests then filled us in on the fish specials. (The seafood is fabulous, if you're not into beef!) Kerry and I each started with the wedge salad- perfectly refreshing and lighter start to our meals. Others had Lobster Bisque & The Oysters casino were standouts. My Sirloin, recommended by Brian arrive perfectly Medium rare as did my wife's Filet. Each was a beautiful specimen of their respective cuts. We shared the not to be missed Greenberg Skins as our accompaniment. The couple nearest us each got Prime Rib which they agreed was "a plateful of meat"! They seemed to thoroughly enjoy it. The meals are served a'la cart and are not inexpensive but worth it if you wish for as fine a dining experience as you'll ever receive. Oh and, btw, Brian knows how to not only how recommend wine with your meal (Sancerre with Sea Bass, yes please!) but he also actually knows how to open and present a bottle which has be rare in the "after times" in my experience. I went to The Prime Rib for Thanksgiving dinner and I thoroughly enjoyed it! The turkey was very well cooked and lightly seasoned. This was the BEST turkey I have had in recent memory. My one concern was the stuffing was made with sausage and I don't eat pork. The chef gave me extra turkey to make up for it. The bread, mashed potatoes, mushrooms with Sherry and - the cranberry compote were ample size and very good! I got my leftovers to go and I ate it twice today - breakfast and dinner! (I wish I had more.) The key lime pie was extraordinary as was the service!!! The ambiance was excellent. The decor was elegant with a piano playing, and they have free valet parking! The dining room and ambiance here is really nice. the service, including wine service and food was on par for a fine dining establishment. However, this is a steakhouse and the centerpiece should be the steaks. My wife's filet was only average, and barely steakhouse grade, however, my NY strip was so low quality, I literally was thinking "WTF?" How does a cut like this even wind up in the kitchen? We've been to steak houses all over the country, and this was easily the worst. How does this even happen? Does management really think that Baltimore diners lack the sophistication and knowledge of what a dry aged prime steak looks and tastes like? Do they think assume they are provincial and stupid? If eating low quality steaks in a nice atmosphere is your thing, by all means go. So disappointing. read more

My wife has lived in Baltimore her entire life, but had never been to The Prime Rib. I made reservations for the day after Valentine's Day, because they're closed on Mondays. The complimentary valet parking makes it easy to get in and out, although we found it a bit odd that we had to wind our way up a narrow stairwell and through the building to get to the entrance. We were promptly greeted & seated in the center of the room, which was smaller than either of us expected, but not uncomfortably so. I started with the wedge salad, which was a surprisingly small wedge of iceberg lettuce, a handful of sliced cherry tomatoes, some very smoky & crispy thick-cut bacon, and just enough bleu cheese dressing to tie it all together. It was pretty good, but I do wish that it was larger and had more bleu cheese. My wife's lobster bisque was pretty good, but wasn't noticeably better than any other bisque we'd had before. At these prices, one would expect something better than the usual. These were a sign of things to come for the rest of our meal. I ordered the house ribeye (The Prime Rib Steak), medium rare, and my wife ordered the crab cakes. Sides are not included, even at these prices; everything is à la carte, and at highly-inflated prices. We knew that going in, but this was both a treat and a belated Valentine's Day dinner, so we decided to splurge a bit. We both ordered sherry roasted mushrooms, which weren't quite roasted enough & tasted like mushrooms tossed in cooking sherry. The grilled artichokes fared quite a bit better; they had a slight charred lemon flavor, and were perfectly cooked. The Greenberg potato skins were better than expected, and served with a mild horseradish sauce and sour cream topped with chives. The texture reminded me of a thick, crispy kettle chip. On to the main courses - My ribeye was well-seasoned, and smelled great. Unfortunately, it was slightly overdone & I didn't send it back because we'd already waited an hour and a half at that point for our mains. Regardless, even if it were properly cooked, it absolutely wasn't worth ~3x the price of a ribeye elsewhere. My wife's "award-winning recipe" crab cakes were pretty bland, and contained no lump crab at all. They were comprised mainly of shredded crab, and, other than a slight hint of deviled crab seasoning, had very little flavoring. If these were actually award-winning, I suspect that it was bestowed before the advent of Faidley's & Koco's crab cakes, which are both substantially superior to these. We opted for the Basque Cheesecake for dessert. It was very good, but, again, not world-class enough to justify the $14. Based on their appearance and texture, I suspect that the "fresh" strawberries were actually frozen at some point. Our waiter, in particular, was fairly slow the entire night, and didn't really engage us in conversation outside of our orders. The waiters at the other tables around us were quicker & friendlier. Overall, pretty good (but not spectacular) food & slow, detached service didn't justify the cost of this particular outing. Nor did it create a memorable experience for either of us. read more

Not too dark inside which is great When the waiter spilled my drink he brought over a small table cover for the mess which was nice. Things that took the review down: We had a reservation at 7, and when we showed up they gave us the a small table in the very corner of the restaurant, shoved so far in the corner that my left shoulder touched the wall and my right shoulder rubbed against another guests back, at the table sitting next to us. Thankfully they fixed this when I mentioned it, but the even beginning thought that anyone would be willing to pay $300 for a meal and be shoved in a corner is ridiculous. The waiter was ok, I asked two times what his recommendation for a drink was based on what I like and he ignored me both times to talk about the food specials instead. The "famous potato skins" were not great. Great for Olive Garden but not for a heavy price point. It is with profound sadness that I'm writing this review. I grew up in Baltimore and have been coming for many years. I now live in CA and come to the Prime Rib every time I'm home. WTF happened? Well as I understand it, they have new ownership and a new general manager who have absolutely ruined an iconic restaurant. Now for the details: --salads are served wet with brown lettuce. --the crab cakes that used to be lump and amazing are now golfball sized made with shredded crab. I dare say Krab. --the broccolini was cooked like my grandma's green beans in the 1960s. --the steaks that used to be Prime are clearly not. Maybe they should rename the restaurant The Choice Rib. --the crab imperial once the city's best is now cold and watery Well, you get the idea. Maybe the money they spent on the renovation drained them of working capital for quality ingredients. BTW, you cannot tell the difference. The restaurant solicits that business casual dress is required (collared shirt or sport coat) although various diners were in jeans and sneakers. We visited for winter restaurant week, which offers a three-course pre-fix option for $45/person. Opted for the house salad, prime rib, and chocolate mousse pie, which were all delicious. My wife and I went for our anniversary dinner. Food was not as good as usual, but was ok. We had leftovers to be boxed up to take home, and one of the busboys took dirty dishes from another table, as well as the dirty linen napkins and put them on the the tray with our food. The waiter was unaware and returned to our table with the contaminated food boxed up for us to take home. We made him aware and they originally wanted to take 50% off of my wife's rack of lambchops. The rack consisted of approximately 12 chops and only 3 had been eaten. When that was brought to their attention, they agreed to take off 75% of the chops. They gave me a new steak and new sides. We had to ask to see the manager who came out after being requested. We found out that the manager was in the kitchen cooking meals because they didn't have a chef. We paid what was asked but will never return. The lamb chops were overcooked and wasn't as flavorful as in the past. My roasted prime rib was not cooked properly as in the past. We took advantage of restaurant week at the prime rib. Made rez well in advance (3 weeks). Walked in at 7 PM on a Saturday and the place was PACKED. They have the tables set up like they are packing in sardines; it was quite a challenge to find a path to and from our table! The ambience is typical for an old school steakhouse. Along with the dark lighting and old wood came the old school fine dining service. Oh, and the 60+ patrons :) Friendly, knowledgeable service who asks where you're from, what you do. Absolutely spectacular service. On to the food: the house salad was average. The roasted tomato soup was way salty. Loved their house bread-warm and soft on the inside, crispy on the outside. The entrees were variable. The crab imperial was chock full of amazing lump crab meat but extremely heavy handed on the mayonnaise. To the point where it was so rich that I felt queasy halfway through! The filet mignon was perfectly cooked as ordered (medium), juicy, and flavorful. The chocolate mousse dessert was exactly as a chocolate mousse should be! Whipped, light, and decadent. I would give them a 5 for Service (oh and there free valet parking), 2.5 for the food, and 3 for ambience. As always, food has the most weight. For seafood/ crab I would look elsewhere. A tale of two servers... went to Prime for my besties birthday last night. Party of 7. Did my homework prior, reading reviews and looking at food pics! So I was really looking forward to the experience and menu. The valet, excellent, free and the work on tips, nice guys! Entrance, lovely door held and greeted with smiles. Now to our server. Our server, I'll call him B, seemed to pick and choose how he engaged with his tables. While he came to take our orders and offered to answer questions... he seemed to get impatient, especially if the question required him to "ask the kitchen". Our orders were placed, and we waited. B rarely came in between our almost 2 hour wait for dinner to check on drinks, over hot bread or inform us that the food was taking unusually long, due to the "packed" house. Meanwhile, waiter Rob who served the tables behind us, engaged with his tables. Made suggestions, informed them of the band that comes on certain nights. Answer questions from his tables with enthusiasm and knowledge. More importantly he used a "crumber" the scraping tool used to remove crumbs from white linen clothes... a "staple" of fine dining! I say this because I server did none of these things.... when you're potentially paying $150 pp for a meal... service matters! Engaging in its customers matter! Robs service is as phenomenal. If you go, ask for him. The food was pretty good, I had the Chilean sea bass, but my bestie had imperial stuffed shrimp and it was just "ok" and not plated well. More importantly after a long wait, many of the items came out cold or Luke warm... so I don't know... 3 stars is all I could manage. Not sure I will go back! We had a terrible experience at the prime rib. When the food came out there was a giant black hair (which happens) but it took nearly 20 minutes to get anyone's attention. I ended up going to the hostess to tell her because our food was cold by then (who was very kind about everything). It took 30-40 minutes after to even get the dish again. By that time it was late and they just wrapped it up to go home. We had a table in the middle and got shoved by waiters every 2 seconds because they pack in too many tables. The flavors were not dissimilar from what you'd find at Applebee's. The eponymous Prime Rib was certainly a half portion, but was nonetheless a generous size. A classy, sophisticated steakhouse with a 1940's vibe -- I thoroughly enjoyed my experience and food at The Prime Rib. A Baltimore classic since 1965, the flagship location of this steakhouse (there are two other locations: one in DC, and one in Philadelphia) offers much more than it's name suggests. Based on the (mostly) positive Yelp reviews, my boyfriend and I decided to enjoy a Sunday night date at The Prime Rib recently, and I'm quite glad we did. Upon our arrival, we were greeted graciously by an elegantly-dressed host. Before taking a seat at our table, we decided to first get drinks at the bar. I ordered a glass of Prosecco, while my boyfriend ordered a Dirty Martini -- the bartender was attentive and kind. So far so good. A short while later, we made our way to our table -- which was perfectly intimate -- located in the back corner of the main dining room. Our friendly Australian waiter introduced himself, brought us the wine list and menu, as well as some warm bread for us to nibble on. Given the extensive offerings on The Prime Rib's menu, we ordered what we were craving: that is, Jumbo Lump Crab Cocktail to start, Chicken Breast for me, Salmon for my boyfriend, and Steamed Asparagus and a Baked Sweet Potato for us to share. The Chicken Breast had a slight Terriyaki glaze on it, which was lovely. The Baked Sweet Potato was accompanied by some delicious cinnamon-infused butter on the side. Everything was very tasty, and cooked well. No, we didn't order Prime Rib, and we didn't regret it one bit! Because it was just a dessert kind of night (ya know, just because?), we glanced over the dessert menu, which was appropriately filled with American classics -- from Apple Pie, to Creme Brulee, to Cheesecake, and more. After much deliberation, my boyfriend and I chose to share the Banana Split, which was a delectable, sweet finish to a great meal. We walked away satisfied and happy, and with no complaints. The Prime Rib is perfect for a date night, or for a special occasion -- and a Jazz pianist in the main dining room adds the perfect, special touch to this retro-chic environment.
