Just flew in from Cali, and we (family) we're lucky to find this place out of the gate. Great food and service!

My wife and I have eaten at Provençal three times now, dropping about $1000. Three stkies and your out. Each time the experience has gotten a little worse. The restaurant is run by children and a few middle aged hipsters that are more busy bull shitting with each other then actually paying attention to their patrons. In addition, they never remember anyone, except for the local losers that sit at the bar. The food is seriously overrated, portions are extremely small, the food is prepared sloppily and presented the same way. In addition, between apps and your main dish, you practically have to beg somebody for new plates and silverware. The hard alcohol drinks seem to be watered down, the mixed drinks are not prepared correctly and the Cava's suck. From the minute you walk in the door you have to negotiate a table with the hostess and then you're constantly waiting on service. It's very small and the ambience is loud and its drab. I'll never spend another penny at Provencal and I strongly do not recommend it. read more

Dinner at The Provincial was very good. Pork chop was good although a bit under seasoned. Mussels and spinach/cheese appies were excellent. Tacos also very good. Put some white table clothes on those tables and I think you'd warm the place up a bit. I expected a bit more of a fancy ambience. All good though! I'll be back! read more

In town for work looking for a place to grab a bite and a beer. Ahi Tuna tacos were amazing and everything else that came out of the kitchen looked good too. Smaller beer selection than expected but they keep it local. Bartender (Jared) was friendly and extremely helpful. I will definitely be coming back next time I am on the area. read more

We enjoy trying out new, local restaurants, and since we are not far from downtown Apex, decided to have lunch here. We were greeted warmly and seated right away. The space is small, but we prefer more intimate settings, and we admired the tin ceilings, exposed brick, and beautifully finished floors. There were many good options for lunch, but we settled on baked goat cheese on baby greens with Dijon vinaigrette for me, and my husband ordered the chicken shawarma sandwich. We were both very pleased with our meals, and service was exceptional. We look forward to another visit very soon for dinner. Welcome to downtown Apex, Provincial! read more

This was my first time here and I left having mixed feelings. The prices are really high for what you get. If you're a picky eater, this place probably isn't for you. I ended up getting a burger because it was cheaper and I liked the side options more than the others. The burger was pretty good but very dry. Our waitress was really friendly but I think she was too busy with other tables because she didn't come back to our table very often. We had to go up to the bar to get another drink because we couldn't find her. When I got there there wasn't anyone around us so the tiny table we were at was fine. But the place started filling up and soon there were people on both sides of us. We were all packed in there so close to eachother, I could hear the people next to us eating and having a whole conversation. If I'm going to be paying that much for food I would expect to have a little more space between me and the person next to me. Not sure I'd come back here again. read more

This has become my favorite restaurant in Apex! Intimate atmosphere and the service is great. My meal was phenomenal! Salmon, Brussels and parsnips. It was well seasoned, balanced and delicious. Had another delicious meal here. I got the short ribs with whipped potatoes and carrots. Such tender short rib. The potatoes were truly whipped and buttery. Also shared a veggie plate. The brussels sprouts are still delicious. Also like the baby artichokes and beets. It's so refreshing to get real vegetables on a veggie plate that are prepared in a delicious way. Our party tried each of the three desserts available--the chocolate peanut butter brownie, the rum cake, and the apple pie a la mode. Everything was great. We love The Provincial! Finally had a kid-less date night and Provincial was our choice! We usually order takeout from here but it was a treat to finally eat inside the restaurant. Small, cozy atmosphere and friendly staff. Our favorite things have always been the Chinese spiced wings, spinach dip and the grass fed burger with the brioche bun! Sometimes we may get the shoestring onion rings which are also delicious. However, the burgers come with awesome fries which usually make the onion rings not needed. read more

Party of six (three couples) out to dinner here based on other reviews. My wife's and my dinner were fine, but another in our party didn't care for the flounder dish she ordered (flavor was just off), so she ordered a replacement meal which they got wrong (wait staff or kitchen error, we don't know). Bill comes, and the manager is requested for that couple's slip as they got charged for both of her meals (the uneaten fish and the replacement made up wrong). When the female manager comes to discuss the problems with the food, she says they "get the freshest and best fish available and prepare it properly" and that "maybe this isn't the restaurant for you"... WHAT? REALLY? Manager leaves, comes back after adjusting the bill for them, and says it again, THIS TIME TO THE WHOLE TABLE that "maybe this isn't the restaurant for you." With the limited menu available (I get it, part of the excitement to not having a boring list to choose from everytime), maybe the MANAGER isn't the one for this restaurant. read more

It was ok, cheese plate needs some help, just throwing on a few small pieces of cheese, a few grapes and a blob of jam with a cracker or two is not the greatest and most appealing. We had the mashed potatoes croquettes which was swimming in grease and oil, the shrimp was good, but needed some seasoning and flavor. Overall, it was just OK. We may try it again as it may have been an off night. But I'm not going to out of my way to come back. read more

My husband and I have been wanting to try this place for a while. I'm not one to write reviews, but I hope to save someone the experience we had. I called to make a reservation on a Wednesday evening around 8pm for the upcoming Friday night. To my dismay, during my attempt to make the reservation I was told by the male waiter/host that it was their "prime time" and to call back in an hour to make the reservation. Perhaps that should have been my initial clue. The next day I called again and made the reservation. Upon arrival on Friday, we were immediately seated at a table near the windows. The restaurant has an overall nice ambience and the hostess was friendly and accommodating. We were immediately asked our preference for drinks, which were returned to our table in a timely manner. The waiter then asked if we had ever been to the restaurant. When we replied that it was our first experience, he began diligently informing us that the chef plates all of the meals, was from New Jersey, trained in Florida under some other famous chef and that there were to be absolutely no exceptions, exclusions or substitutions and all plates are served as is listed on the menu. Firm. Given the fact that I have multiple food allergies and intolerances, I am obligated to pre-scan menus of restaurants ahead of time. Since the restaurant is known for its fresh, simple farm to table ingredients, I thought I would have no issue. I asked the waiter what people with gluten, lactose, or other intolerances do since most things on the menu included either one or both. His response was order a side or salad. We thought about leaving and going across the street to one of our favorite spots - Peak City Grill, but we already had wine on the table, and it just wasn't worth the hassle at that point. With that said I decided to order the trout, which was served with spinach and homestyle potato chips. When I simply asked for the chips to not be included on the plate, and if there was any way I could only have either extra spinach or another vegetable item, the waiter scoffed, and said "I know the chef won't do it but you can order an additional side of Brussel sprouts or salad if you'd like." Keep in mind the plate with fish and spinach and chips was $25, and then I would need to order an additional side for another $5-10 if I hoped to obtain satiety. After about 25-30 minutes, our waiter came out, brought my husband his meal and explained that my fish had been overcooked, and could be bring me a side salad while I waited for my entree. When he returned he brought a "salad," which was comprised of lettuce. Only lettuce. About 10 minutes later, my entree finally arrived, and surprisingly, without the chips. The fish itself was flavorful and seasoned well, but when you spend $30 on a meal, you want to be full after. Between the thin piece of trout, spinach, and lettuce I left starving and disappointed. When you are a new business (specifically restaurant) in a small city, you want to make a good initial impression for the customers so they will refer and return. Having grow up with a greek father as a chef, I I understand taking pride in your work, and being protective and detail oriented when it comes to the food you serve. At some point you have to be willing to make *small* exceptions with individuals who cannot consume certain food products. I just wish that the menu had cited (as most places will) that there were no exceptions or substitutions to be made in which case we would have refrained from going here altogether. read more

I'm in Apex visiting from Atlanta, and I have to say this restaurant rates right up there with some of my favorites back home. I wanted to relax and eat my dinner back at my hotel, so I requested my food "to go" and they were more than accommodating and very thoughtful. Staff was amazing and very welcoming. The chicken was grilled to perfection and the cheese plate was delicious. I'll be back my next visit in town! read more

Love this place. Menu changes frequently so each visit offers new meals to try. Very reasonable priced wine list. The food is very fresh and well prepared so not cheap but not crazy expensive either. Decor is nice! The waitress was very nice at first, offering suggestions and patiently waiting for decisions to be make. She really pushed the Rhubarb martini so I got it....and it tasted like pink lemonaide. Oh well, to each his own, right? I inquired about the vegetable plate. She said it was "all the vegetables on the menu, except the collards because they have ham in them". So I asked if anything was cooked in chicken broth or had any animal product in it and she said "no, nothing but vegetables". I checked the vegetable sides while my friends were deciding on their meal and there were no red flags...meaning, all vegetables, no animal product. So I ordered the vegetable plate. Well, it was served with a big glob of cheese in the middle. (News flash! Cheese is not a vegetable!) So, I pointed this out when it arrived and she said (in a harsh tone) "you didn't say vegan. If you had said vegan I would've known!". ok, fair enough. So, I apologized for not saying the actual word "vegan" when I specifically asked about animal product and they scraped off the cheese. (Note: Admittedly SCRAPED off the cheese.) In the meantime, my friend (whose birthday we were there to celebrate) asked if she could substitute one vegetable for another and was told "no"(something about the chef having the exact amounts of vegetables for each entree....REALLY?!). So she ordered an overpriced entree knowing she wouldn't be eating 1/3 of it and there was nothing she could do about it! Lastly, the hostess began stalking our table as we were finishing our meal. Literally seconds after we signed our checks she came to our table and said "I'm not trying to rush you, but our next reservation has been waiting".....who does that?! I mean, it's a small space and (for whatever reason) people seem to love it, but my friend still had half a glass of wine and we just signed our check! So, I gave it 3 stars because: the roasted brussel sprouts were fantastic, as was the swiss chard...the parsnips and carrots were great too. (Forgot to mention, I was told I could not have fingerling potatoes added to my plate.) My friends really enjoyed their dinners (tuna tacos and chicken with mashed potatoes). So, perhaps if they could be open to substitutions, and understand that "vegetable only" means "no cheese", and not ask their customers to leave....it would be pretty good. read more

Downtown Apex was alive this Saturday evening and we enjoyed dinner at the Provincial with friends. The night started off terribly as we had ordered three different glasses of red wine and one of staff (not our server) drops 2 of the wines at table in front of wrong person and doesn't identify wine...it was supposed to be a Pinot Noir, but was too dark and on taste not a Pinot ...and tasted off. Explained to waitress and she took glass back to bar but returned to tell us it was a fresh bottle of Pinot and brought the glass back indicating she could not take off bill.....She offered to bring a taste since we assured her the glass of wine was not a Pinot and the tasting glass was a different color than glass brought and was a Pinot. In the end we decided to drop it since the waitress wasn't budging...a bit of a bummer way to start a dinner get together. We enjoyed our apps, great dinner choices - Salmon was delicious but Salmon portion small considering price. Snapper was also good. Choc brownie dessert was good but meager too. The quality of entrees got this review the 4 stars but probably should have been lower. read more

I had the braised short rib last evening: OUTSTANDING. Served with a red wine sauce, roasted winter vegetables, whipped potatoes. The beef was SO tender only a fork was required to get the meat from plate to face. Very nicely done. Also, went with the vanilla bean panna cotta: again, OUTSTANDING. Served alongside blood orange slices and accompanying sauce. Super light, super delicious. Service? OUTSTANDING (seems to be a theme here...). Spent a glorious 1st night of Phase 3 outdoor dining last night! As downtown Cary residents we try and support our spots but finally got over to try an Apex place. The food and service were incredible! We are a couple in the food industry over 25 years and always searching for deliciousness in the Triangle. Everything including the lamb, hanger steak, scallops, caramelized brussels and the crispy goat cheese dressed baby lettuce salads was executed perfectly! Alright so I read reviews on yelp first. So let me start by saying I kind of knew when I went for lunch that I was going to pay a lot for Tuna tacos with no side. Ok. Well they were $20!!!!! For lunch!!! Holy smokes, but I ordered them anyway. There were 3 but I would have settled for 2 and a side and less than $15. This is way too much for a lunch meal? The question mark is because of course there is no side. I figured based on the reviews though that they would at least taste great. Not the case. They were way over dressed and super salty! My husband had the fried chicken sandwich. It was salty as well and the bun was quite toasty (burned). Anyway I'm writing this even after reading the other reviews and knowing some what to expect in hopes that they will change this. However, probably not ever going back. Service was very good though, our waiter was nice and quick. read more

My little grandson was happy with his fish. My meal was awful. The fried catfish sandwich had about 1 tsp of sauce, barely enough to wet part of the fish, and had some bitter-tasting slaw on it that I raked aside after one bite. The 2 pieces of bread were both BURNT BLACK and should have been thrown away. When the waitress finally came back, I said the bread was burnt, and I had laid it where she could see it and eaten the fish with a fork. She said, "Yeah, it's a bit charred," and walked away. No replacement bread, nothing. I was charged the full price of $14 although i had eaten about half the meal, the piece of unremarkable fish and a few soggy "homemade" fries. We won't make the mistake of going back! read more
