We like meeting friends here. They have an extensive beer menu especially if you like Belgium beers, and service is always on point.

When we got here, the place was packed! Not only was the bar totally full but there was an extra row of people standing behind the entire bar. We figured it was worth the wait so we took a walk around the neighborhood and got called in 40 minutes later (less than the hour they estimated which was great) We shared the full pot of mussels between two of us. When it arrived, we were initially amazed by the sheer size of it. We're talking about a medium sized stove top pot full of mussels. However as we started eating, we realized at least 1/3 of the mussels never opened up. They seemed to have small cracks so we tried to pry open a bunch. But they smelled funky so we played it safe and tossed the unopened guys. We got the pot 2 flavor, which was full of tomatoes and bacon. So the ones that did open up tasted great. And the fries that came with it were perfectly crispy and weren't greasy. Would come back for more fries and beer, but not the mussels. read more

Updating this review. This is one of our take-out go-to places since The Thing started. Delicious food as always. I miss the crispy chicken sandwich though ! (((Covid-free sniffles ensue))). But the grilled chicken sandwich has been an excellent alternative. The bacon is perfectly crispy. My husband continues to enjoy the bredoni (sp?). Hopefully when this Thing is over they can bring back some old menu favorites. Their online ordering is simple. And the wait times are extremely reasonable. Pick up service is very friendly m, even as they are back to having in restaurant patrons. They are very safe! When things are back to normal we will be happy to make this place our go to Sunday lunch. They were always so friendly with our kid. We ordered classic burger, NY steak strips and beer braised pork belly. I got guiness and belgium beer. Food were all solid and really tasty. Beer was so creamy and fresh. The Publick house is a classic, really good bar food spot in Brookline. Incredible drink menu and such a fun place to eat either inside or out. I used to order the Brendoni 2.0 and that was my favorite, but they haven't had it on the menu in years. The moules frites are fantastic, the spice rub chicken wings are to die for, and the burgers and sandwiches are good. I also really like the fish n chips. This spot honestly leans more 4.5 to me, but it's a great local place with good drinks, eats, and service running the show. read more

Judging by the amount of reviews, and the 1+ hr waits, looks like I'm late to the party....once again. Better late than never! You wouldn't know it at first glance but this place is more than just beer, although if that's your thing you'll probably feel like you're in paradise. The food is pretty spot on! When was the last time you went to a place with so many Belgian beers on tap that it easily qualifies as a pub/bar, yet there was a full kids menu. And none of it feels at all gimmicky! Mac and cheese: super satisfying. Anything in a cast iron skillet is probably going to be good. A whole list of additions to choose from. The truffle cream is a no brainer. Fish and chips: easily one of the best fish batters I've had. Extra crispy and full of flavor. Pro tip- substitute your regular fries with the monk version. Thank me later. Oh and truffle ketchup is so good, it should be a menu line item of its own! A concept like this isn't easy to pull off. Publick house has created a space that is full of energy, welcoming and catering to multi generations, with an equality successful menu. We knew it was a busy weekend and we were happy to be able to reserve seats online, even though we had to sit outside--a large umbrella kept the rain off and it wasn't a cold night. Our server was very responsive initially, particularly to the two allergies among our group. But then he disappeared for a long time (and apologized on his return), and didn't have some of the information we needed or tried to get it. After a long delay, our food arrived with one mistake (quickly remedied) but it took four more trips to get us silverware, ketchup, etc., etc. The gluten-free buns offered were dry and crumbly; it's nice that they tried, but the two people who ordered them for hamburgers found them almost unpalatable and impossible to pick up. Great location with indoor and outdoor seating. I have been to the publick house for both lunch and dinner, both were exceptional experiences. Would recommend a reservation for dinner, while lunch is usually not super busy. There are plenty of beer and drinks to choose from. The food menu maintains a nice variety while also not being that big. They have two types of wings, one in hot sauce and one with a dry rub, both are really good. The service for our lunch visit was exceptional. Our server Brian heard some silverware drop from across the restaurant and brought over some more without us even having to ask! You can't teach that. We had a mixed food experience here. We enjoyed the mac and cheese, especially with the added proscuitto and truffle cream. However, despite the phenomenal reviews, unfortunately it didn't quite match up to decadence our favorite, legendary mac and cheese (from now-closed Caseus in New Haven). We think the sauce had a lower cream-to-cheese ratio than expected. The top formed a delicious crust, but, even after cooling, the rest was not as exciting. But we still enjoyed it even if it wasn't our fave, so 4 stars for the Mac. The NY strip on special, on the other hand, wasn't great. It came with chimichurri (good) and a salad (corn, beans, cherry tomatoes, and some lovely sauce - good), but most of the steak itself was more well done when it should have been medium rare :( probably due to the uneven thickness of the cut. And it was pretty difficult to cut into. 3 stars for the steak. Also, service was not the most friendly, and the beer selection is very interesting but a bit pricey. Altogether, we weren't wowed this time. Still seems promising, since some elements were really good and the food prices are reasonable, so we'll probably give it another shot. Though I'll stick with popular items based on other reviews next time (e.g., fish and chips or burger). Will update if things change. read more

I'll put my badge up for takes for it.. here it goes! -- 7-9pm it's busy, people are eating and drinking. If you want a relaxed feel, come after 9. You won't wait long.. The beer & food list is eccentric! You'll find a list of drafts, bottles, wines, that are rotating every two weeks. The beer selection here is never boring. Alligash, Trillium, and BBB are always flying here. I will not leave out the fact that David curates his tap as second to none compared to places in town. beers from here, then and everywhere will be found at The Publick House.. Service is run by Ailish, who understands the importance of service as she's been in the industry for several years. The combination of this duo has made The Publick House a GEM in the the town of Brookline. Joe, the Head Chef has made this place a WONDER to eat. He and the crew have come up with ways, to surprise you with food, that you can follow (via IG), that will leave you coming back for another round. And it's good to note that they have great vegetarian options such as an in house recipe veggie burger, crab sandwich, & great tasting salads. Their Mac & Cheese is second to none, hands down. Went here for brunch. Kind of a strange experience- we made reservations for the patio which is 4 picnic tables directly against the restaurant as opposed to The Shed which is across the sidewalk and is picnic tables under a, you guessed it, shed. We chose to sit in the shed as it was pleasantly shady and offered some seclusion from the sidewalk and street. So outdoor reservations are rather unclear. Ended up having lunch because they only have 3 brunch options and they do not serve coffee- unless you want an espresso martini! So... they make espresso but only for alcoholic drinks??? No coffee/ not much brunch. That said, the service was lovely and responsive and the food was really good. Suggestion for management- stop saying you serve brunch. Why bother? Go with your strengths of serving lunch and dinner with drinks. Please consider adding coffee for non-drinkers, those that like to end a meal with a cup or those who have overindulged in your drinks and need to sober up. read more

Before COVID, I had only gone to The Publick House a couple of times for drinks on Friday and Saturday nights. They were good, at reasonable prices, it has a nice atmosphere, nice staff, and they have one or two tvs to watch if there is a game on. I recently went during COVID, where I sat at one of their tables outside, ordered a meal with friends, and had a great time! Our waiter was very polite and on top of everything! I had a couple of drinks and roasted wings with honey dip, and they were pretty good! The only shepard's pie I had prior was through Trader Joe's frozen rendition. This "real" pie blew me away. ++Anyone a fan of cheese should order their mac n' cheese. It's a popular dish with different variations ie. with lobster or scallop or short ribs etc. Service 3 - Strict seating policy. Everyone must be present in your party before being seated. - You are not allowed to sit at their dining tables unless you're ordering a full meal. This bar is my favorite local bar, hands down. I went here for some Sunday afternoon suds to watch the game a few weeks ago & it did not disappoint. Popped in here before an Elite event in the area for dranks and apps. Beer list was on point, and so were the apps. I ordered the crab cakes and a side of fries. My sister ordered the poutine. All were very tasty! Crab cakes were served on arugula (apparently now it's being called rocket in the states) with pork belly bits, corn, and a nice sauce. Olympic Themed Review! Gold medal- beer selection is outstanding Silver medal- food is tasty Bronze medal- service is very good Everything gets high marks from me! Great selection of Belgian beers...including my favorite La Chouffe (because I like when they serve it in the the gnome glasses). My steak tips and frites were great, esp. with the chipotle mayo!
