I stopped here on my way to Austin. I was seated quickly, which was great. I was given chips and salsa, and I thought they were delicious! I had the tamale plate and a separate order of two tacos. The tacos were good, but the tamale plate wasn't very impressive. I didn't finish eating the tamales. They were probably the worst I've ever eaten. The food was 3.5-4 stars. The dining experience was 1 star, due to the smell. We arrived shortly before 10:00pm. They are open until 11:00pm, so I figured the food and service would be fine. The bar area had several people. We were the only ones in the dining area, as 2 other people were leaving as we were being seated. The server was nice and friendly, but not especially knowledgeable about the food and drink options. I had green enchiladas and hubby had a mini taco plate. The taco plate had 5 small corn tortilla tacos, good charro beans, and grilled jalapeño and large green onion. The fresh salsa was delicious and nicely spicy. We both agreed the food was tasty and plentiful. We brought almost half of it home. The Really Serious Problem was the Horrible stench of the cleaning fluid. We got a whiff as we began the meal, as they started cleaning an area of the floor not too close to our booth, but luckily they stopped cleaning. However, by 10:30 they began cleaning everything in earnest. The smell was overwhelming and totally ruined my enjoyment of the meal. I literally had to hold a napkin over my nose. It's now an hour later, and I can still smell it on my jacket. I will never go back at the end of the day! I would be apprehensive about going at the end of the breakfast or lunch. I can recommend the place if you go early, or if you are assured they won't be cleaning. Otherwise, find someplace else. read more

On my way back to Austin I decided to stop for a bite in Waco. Found this place. I really like little hole in the wall type places. They're usually gems. This place does not disappoint. I had the mixed fajita special, and although it wasn't served like I'm used to in a piping hot skillet but rather on a plate with charro beans, rice and lettuce. They didn't disappoint. Served with homemade tortillas (had one of each) and an extra side of guacamole. While it wasn't a huge portion it was ample enough that I could not finish it all. The waitress was super nice and friendly and I must have asked for all sorts of different things (limes, fresh japs, water, extra salsa..) I would be annoyed, but she just smiled and graciously took care of me without attitude. She's awesome! If I'm ever back in town. I'll be back. Check it out. So I really wanted to give it 5 stars; the only complaint I had was the loud music and one dish came out later than the rest, which was probably a fluke, but otherwise it was so good. Staff was friendly, polite, and attentive. The chicken fajitas were tender and tasty. Do yourself a favor and pour the salsa (not the gravy one but the one with onions and cilantro) over the fajitas and cast iron plate when it comes. First it keeps the onions and peppers from burning and second it gives it all a delicious taste. The corn tortillas are packaged but by do they know how to serve them up! Nice grilled char to the tortillas. I'm not a fan of packaged flour so can't comment here. The Pozole was delicious. Pork was tender, had great flavor and came with fresh, abundant fixings! The food was so delicious. After starting with their awesome guacamole, my wife and I split a skillet with both chicken, beef and cactus. It was huge! Besides the flavor being amazing, the beef was tender and the chicken was juicy. Their house tortillas they provided were tender and flavorful. We barely finished the it. Was in Waco for the bodybuilding show. We went here the night before for my big fajita meal and margarita to help dry me out. This Place was amazing and huge fajita portions for such a low price. We liked it so much we came back the next day for the same thing. This time I got two large margs and they were strong. (In a good way bec I was plastered). Don't let the drive thru dissuade you from stopping here. This is quite good Mexican food. The quality is great and not typical Tex-Mex. My wife's beef and shrimp fajitas (#8) had a different flavor than either of us had ever had and a nice change from what we usually have at Mexican restaurants. My three taco plate was good also. The ground meat had more of a chili flavor and you can tell their seasonings are not pre-packaged. The salsa is fresh with just the right amount of Cilantro. I wish I had taken pictures of all our food. We are still laughing almost 24 hours later at the horrible looking "super nachos". Super gross! The chips were totally limp. You couldn't pick them up. Happened across this place because it's super close to my in-laws' house. Very tasty with really good prices and friendly service. We have to restrain ourselves from eating here too often. Great enchiladas, big kids plates, good drink specials, etc. The only thing we haven't been out and out super fans of were the tacos al carbon plate. It was a little skimpy for them, but still good. The quality you get for the prices you pay really is as good as it gets. I've had more expensive food that wasn't as good, and I've had better Mexican that cost a lot more but this place is really the whole package as far as I'm concerned. read more

Why is this a 4 star rating? Service is poor. People were sat who came in after us first. Wait staff was lacking. It was gross. I ordered barbacoa tacos. They were greasy and had fat globs in them, bland just bland. The taco shells were so hard they were like rocks. The chicken my husband ordered was dry, and had no seasoning. Maybe we ordered the wrong thing, but being from DFW we wanted to try something local. Next time I'll stick to something a bit more appealing, and walk out when I don't get service after waiting in line for 15 minutes. This is not good Mexican food period, and I have had plenty of the good food. Don't waste your time. read more
