My husband and I went here for Valentines Day. They had a pre fixed menu. While the price was on the higher side per person it was so worth every penny. The service is amazing the food is fantastic and the ambiance is romantic, very traditional pasadena and just fun. You can sit indoors or outdoors. If you sit outdoors they have outdoor heaters so you don't have to worry about getting cold and umbrellas if it is too hot. This place also features an amazing brunch on the weekend so it is worth checking out. Again the food is always really good. This place has been a local favorite in Pasadena for a very long time. The parking is a little strange so prepare to use their valet service and pay for it but other than that the place is amazing and great for date night. read more

Our reservation was at 9:30pm. On Valentine's Day. When we arrived the valet was no longer offering parking. Strike one. Seriously. When we got there they had us wait, in heels, outside in the cold, on Valentine's Day. Strike two. They had us wait for an hour, outside, in the cold, in heels. For an hour. Strike 3. They added gratuity in the tip when the kitchen and bar were unapologetically backed up and service could not possibly be good. Utensils given were dirty. They often forgot utensils. Service was obviously slow. Shut it down if you can't run it properly and respect people's time. We waited an hour in the cold in heels on Valentine's Day at 10pm for food. Unacceptable. Did they comp anything? No. We paid full price and it was expensive. We stayed because this had never happened before. Ever. In decades of dining. No apology from management. Will be sharing on my socials as well. A horrific experience. Truly. Not sure what the hype was about but now you know the reality. Worst restaurant experience ever. We worked with the Raymond to host a 70th birthday party for my Mom and it was amazing! Kevin and team were very helpful in getting us ready for the big day, and kind and supportive on the day of. The food was exquisite and the setting in the back patio was beautiful. Our family and friends had a wonderful time celebrating together. I absolutely recommend working with them for an event. Next time we're in town we'd love to also go for dinner to try more of the meals - the food was so delicious! read more

There's a history to this golden spot! It's cozy and nice. The food here is good portions are decent but the cocktails are delicious! I came here couple times because the parking is easy and it's a classic spot to enjoy a cocktail or two with lite appetizers to dinner. They're friendly but have to wait a long time to get their attention but overall the service is decent. If you haven't tried this spot I definitely recommend it. read more

I'm making this review for a dinner we had over a month ago. Our group went at my suggestion and the gnawing embarrassment I've had compels me to write this. We were seated 30 minutes late of our reservation time. Six of us at the farthest outside table on a particularly cold night and another table preemptively scooped up most of the heating lamps. We ordered the bread and butter, calamari and drinks. The baguette was so petite, maybe enough for a couple. The calamari portion was minimal as well. I wish the waitress would have brought this up with six of us at the table. It took 25 minutes for our waitress to return (we saw her tending to other tables) for us to order dinner. Our group ordered selections from the pasta offerings (no complaints), the burger (great), and then two of us ordered the $65 wagyu filet medium rare. One showed up well done which the waitress immediately returned, but that wasn't the most egregious of the wrongs. These filets are tiny, maybe 3.5" if I'm being generous. It presents as a little dot on a big white plate. My friends immediately ordered sides, at more expense, just so they have something close to a meal. The Raymond, you really need to do better. The bill for the six of us was close to $700, and some among us were leaving hungry. Yes, we had drinks, and they were good, but not enough to merit the cost. Our waitress was nice, but her attention was spotty. I remember The Raymond has wonderful brunches, I think for now I'll stick to that. read more

This place is truly a hidden gem. First time having dinner here and it feels like you are entering a train dining car. The booths are super cute. Ambiance is very cozy. Started off with drinks. I got the "princess ain't here" because I like gin. Its small but definitely got me buzzed Appetizers: we got the Brussel sprouts (possibly the best i have ever had), poke and olives. Main course: I got the sea bass (amazing... the black rice with kale was such a great bed) and my friend got trout. Dessert. We ended with the pear dessert. Just ok. We rented out the Fireside Terrace for a company event surrounding our annual conference in Pasadena. The experience was seamless start to finish. Kevin, the special events manager, was super helpful in ensuring we had the perfect menu (including vegan options) and wine selection for our guests. I almost couldn't believe how easy it was, all I had to do was answer a few questions and Kevin handled everything else. It was the highlight of the conference and we'll definitely be booking again. I haven't been to The Raymond for more than 10 years so it is great to revisit for Happy Hour now that I live nearby. I preferred the patio seating since it could feel a little claustrophobic and warm within the indoor dining space. The menu has definitely been modernized and I am so glad that they included one delicious and filling vegan entrée for someone like my husband who is vegan. Happy Hour (Tue - Fri; 4 to 5:30 PM) prices are still pretty steep but this is Pasadena after all - just know that you're paying for the price of ambiance, food, and service as well so it's worth it. Pork Tacos (from HH menu): 5/5; tasty and filling! Roasted Acorn Squash (vegan): 5/5; substantial and delicious! Tempura Maitake: 5/5; light, crispy, and flavorful! Harissa Marinated Olives (from HH menu): 3/5; good but not memorable. I booked The Raymond 1886 for my company's 2025 Holiday Party and was thoroughly impressed with everything from my initial call to the execution of our event. Working with Kevin, the Special Events Manager, was an absolute delight. Kevin worked very closely with me on all details of our event from the menu to the ambient staging of our space. Having never eaten at The Raymond 1886 prior to our event, I relied very heavily on Kevin's opinion to have a menu that had options that would appeal to an array of varying palettes. The cocktails, mocktails, wine and beer recommended were also incredible. Our event had 23 people and our head waiter and bus staff were attentive and never made anyone feel like they had to wait for their drink or food. Speaking of food.... ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!!!!! Everything was prepared perfectly from appetizers to desserts and drinks. I can't wait to come back with my husband for a date night and also book another special event! read more

The Raymond provides both indoor and outdoor seating. The atmosphere is relatively intimate inside in their booths. The food is great.

We had tuna tartar and sea bass. They were both delicious. But the cocktail drinks are amazing! You cannot taste the alcohol, so it can be quite dangerous. Lol so I would make sure you Uber or have a designated driver. We will definitely come back. It's a great place for a date night or a great place to bring family and have a great dinner. read more

I came here for a celebratory work gathering so was able to taste much of the menu and there were no disappointments! The seabass was cooked perfectly, the tater tots were irresistible, but my favorite bites of the night were the brussel sprouts (there was a spicy mustard flavor which enhanced the dish) and the ahi poke. The harissa olives were also delicious. The pot du creme and creme brulee was standard, and the autumn-themed butter cake was a nice, not too sweet, finish to the meal. For a restaurant to last since the 1950s, it has to be doing something right. I had no idea what The Raymond would be like. It has been on my list for several years and finally, with our spirits lifting along with the long shadow of the pandemic, we decided to give it a try. So happy we did! First of all, it is just 35 minutes from our house and in my favorite LA neighborhood, Pasadena. The Raymond is surrounded by elegance and beauty, some of it grand, some of it homey, all of it uplifting. Just driving through the winding streets from the freeway elevated our mood considerably. We decided to sit outside and try their brunch which, for a vegetarian/vegan, always promises to be more successful. We were seated in a small garden area. The entire premises were bustling quietly with other diners and, it seemed, a flotilla of servers. Each person greeted us with a friendly masked smile. They all seemed genuinely pleased to see us. How nice! The day was Pasadena-perfect: high 70's, dry, sunny, with a gentle breeze. If I had one place to live on earth, it would be Pasadena. The setting, the amazing efficiency of the service, the weather and the neighborhood all contributed to an atmosphere of welcome and having a simply wonderful time. There was a down-home, unpretentious vibe about the place, from the decor, to the diners and how they were attired, to the servers. Great food in an informal atmosphere is my favorite formula. I have seen fancy, paid for it and don't need it any more! The food was absolutely great, seriously, I can't think of a thing to say other than it was perfect for us. We chose two main dishes and the assorted pastries (which were just like dessert, and out of this world). There was a design your own omelette with spinach, cheddar cheese, and peppers, and an utterly exquisitely dressed avocado toast. See the pictures, it was like a painting. I added an egg for extra protein and miracle of miracles, they made it just the way I like it without my having to tell them how. All of this came with deliciously roasted potatoes that were crispy on the outside and tender inside. I could have made a meal of them. The bread was all obviously artisan hand-made somewhere (here?) as were the pastries. We had hefty silverware, giant glasses of chilled water that were constantly refreshed. To make matters even better, we were able to park on Fair Oaks, for free, within a stone's throw of our table, tucked away in the little inner garden. It is hard to describe what the magic of The Raymond is. Maybe it is the entire formula: a Pasadena historic treasure, set just below street level in a tiny forest of its own making over these last 100+ years since it was a grand hotel, the swaying mature trees overhead, the lovely scent of greenery that surrounded us, the smiling face of our incredibly attentive server, Leo, or the fresh, expertly prepared dishes. By the end of it, we felt like we had been on vacation, our habitual urban stress melting away. And now what? I have some other reservations coming up at the famous places I put on hold this winter but, I intend to make The Raymond one of our regular go-to places. I simply love it. read more

Such a cozy, lovely place to spend a 7th anniversary. It was just perfect ambiance, the fireplace was warm and inviting. Alexandros was incredible, I'm not sure if he's a mind reader but he seemed to know exactly when a thought popped into our heads and anticipated our needs without a single word being spoken. His laugh was contagious and we very much enjoyed our visit even more with his presence. We ordered a mushroom tagliatelle and pesto pasta dish, Alexandros suggested pairing shrimp and chicken respectively and it was the right choice. My group of seven had a wonderful dinner at the Raymond this past Tuesday. We enjoyed the great weather we were having in the lovely outdoor seating area. Our waiter was very helpful and fun but most of all we really enjoyed our food and drink. I had the sea bass, and I don't think there was a spot left on my plate when the waiter came to pick it up. I ordered a custom mocktail that someone at the other end of the table had dreamed up, and it was fantastic. Everyone else also raved about their food and drink. I always used to associate this restaurant with really special occasions, but it was nice to see that it's also a great place to meet up with friends. I look forward to returning! read more

I've been wanting to come to this place for awhile and I finally came to celebrate my birthday! The ambiance outside was very nice and they had outdoor heaters. I got to try the short rib, brussel sprouts, and the pork chop. I was disappointed in the short rib and I had the highest expectations for that. What surprised me was the brussel sprouts- they were so good! I usually will not order brussel sprouts because I can make them at home easily but this was something else and a must get! The pork chop was good. It was nicely charred on the outside but it was still a little dry. This place gets 4 stars for the ambiance but this establishment is comparable to Granville. I thought this place would be one above Granville but it is definitely comparable. I didn't get to try the drinks but maybe I'll be back if they bring back happy hour. read more

A painful experience. The main event? I've had better turkey tv dinners. Dry meat, soggy stuffing, elderly cranberry smear, rubbery uncuttable green beans, lumpy mashed potatoes, all bland to completely flavorless. The cocktails were good but tiiiiiny itty bitty. Service was sometimes delightful, too often subpar. Like, no serving utensils in the table's side dishes. Spillage on the already ungenerous cocktail. Then they tried to charge full price for the kids' meal! I remember when The Raymond was exceptional in every way, truly a special occasion place. Let's talk about the food. I ordered a Cesar salad and was given THE worst salad I've ever consumed. It is very hard to mess up a Cesar salad but somehow they did. Salad showed up without any Cesar dressing on it, very interesting. Also ordered a Peruvian brick chicken and wow... super bland no texture just awful food. The best part of my birthday today was having my matcha latte with my Yorkie this morning. I could have skipped having dinner here at the Raymond. My hubby and I wanted to try a new place that we haven't been to and celebrate my birthday. Unfortunately, our waitress wasn't attentive. She never got my husband's refill beverage and was unaware it was my birthday so my husband had to tell her toward the end. She wasn't coming around much at all and the outdoor patio by the fireplace wasn't busy. It was Nice that a dessert was offered after we ordered our dessert but it was already passed the point of making a good impression representative of the restaurant. Are the standards just subpar here? The food wasn't bad. Ambience outdoors is nice. I ordered the Pasta Bolognese and my husband ordered a Pork Chop that was dry and had some crisp to it. It was an odd dish with some interesting sauce. We had Roasted Califlower and Prawns to start. The food was edible but just didn't have that gourmet touch to it. There really wasn't anything about the dishes that stand out.Very disappointing. Ordered Raymond Classic dessert and the butter cake tasted like a day old cupcake. Added the vanilla ice cream to it and It still didn't soften the hardness of the day old dessert. Did we come in with high expectations? We at least expected something good, maybe awesome service if the food wasn't that great or to have wonderful entrees to boast about but we didn't get either/or of those expectations. When we had some left overs, we asked to box it up and the waitress handed us 2 boxes and walked away. Crickets. Overall, it was just lacking in general. Maybe if you're drinking all night long you won't notice this and they're always more attentive to the tables ordering rounds..so you might have a better experience than us if you're here to drink. But I'm a foodie and was here for the food. It was probably one of the most disappointing birthday dinners I've ever had. My husband is planning a redo and we will end up having a celebratory dinner at more familiar restaurants to us that we know are superb. 2 stars for decent ambience and ease of parking!
