Forget the shame, shame on Janet in previous review...there were several times displeasure or unhappiness was voiced at the table to the server...I know, I was there, and everything she said was point on. Right in the beginning I asked for separate checks..at the end, food for six people all on one bill, now to figure it all out and I complained..then came time to order...seems everything we wanted...out of pasta (5:00 and 2 people at bar)??, then no BangBang Shrimp, a main course wasn't available..ordered Onion Rings as Appetizer, never came, asked midway through dinner...finally came with take out boxes...voiced more displeasure. Of course we took leftovers home...there's a difference between inedible and not so good. More than 3 skinny Asparagus as the vegetable would have been nice. Mashed potatoes awesome. Reserved outdoor seating, and was ushered into a side porch/room...looked like a storage area with ladder, broken condenser and suddenly people appearing to come out of wall, perhaps from kitchen and heading OUTDOORS...maybe there is an outdoor eating somewhere, but that wasn't it--there was so much going on and things amiss, you gave up after a while and paid the bill. Perhaps it was just a bad day for the server and kitchen and by tomorrow all will be wonderful and good. read more

Food price/quality (value) 9. The atmosphere is kind of hunting lodge / roadside bar. They have a good sized bar, and several booths and counter style seating. The unique thing about this place is that they serve several fairly exotic meats including elk, wild boar, kangaroo and several others that one cannot find elsewhere. We stopped in for dessert after eating lunch at another local place. I had their homemade strawberry shortcake with fresh strawberries (very good), and the wife had their homemade blueberry pie, also very good. The owner, Christine, was on deck and told us the story of this place which you can read about on their history page (see photo). Very interesting. This place is very unusual, and I hope we can get get back here soon to try the exotic fare even though it's 75 miles from where we live. A recently found favorite of ours, as it's our new go-to for dinner whenever we head up to the property. The staff here is always so friendly and attentive. First time we visited we had the Gator Bites which are obviously a staple in our order now. I'm not usually a burger girl, but I had a hankering for one so I ordered the Southern Burger which had sautéed onion, fried green tomato, Swiss and Russian dressing. My jaw dropped when that thick patty came to the table, but it was SO GOOD! Love the decor all around the restaurant. Every piece there has a story and we're so glad we found this spot! Had early dinner here yesterday. They were able to accommodate our table of 10. The waitress Janelle was pleasant and brought out everything our kids requested, even hot chocolate which was a surprise since it was over 90 degrees outside. The burgers were delicious and kids got a kick out of eating alligator. Plus they loved looking around at the taxidermied animals, snake skin, and other items decorating the place. read more

This is a hole in the wall, bar and grill. Not sure it would be for everyone, but we liked it. The flies, as in the previous review, we're a little annoying. The drinks were good, the bartender was very friendly, and the food was good. I had the chicken wings with the honey garlic and loved it. My husband had the grilled chicken sandwiches said it was fantastic. Don't eat the popcorn lol. I could see this being a very local kind of place as it's off the main road. Had the SOUTHERN BURGER with "Russian dressing" (which is thousand island dressing) and the BREAKFAST BURGER. Burgers were good. The SWEET POTATO FRIES were perfectly crispy on the outside and delicious with a side of blue cheese dressing. Friendly, accommodating staff. Reasonable prices. This review is strictly based on the atmosphere and initial impression. We did not eat here On a high note, their street sign is fabulous. The website looks great. I am sure that the local crowd who are regulars there have created a real sense of community. ATMOSPHERE: I am really allergic to cigarette smoke and smoke in general so we could not stay to dine. As soon as we opened the door, we were accosted by a plume of heavy cigarette smoke. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure they're not smoking indoors, but may have been a carryover from those who do We peeked our heads in and the place was quite unique - taxidermy everywhere, including a black bear cub at the far left corner. Fortunately, the place was packed with a community event. (I was grateful because I really needed to get some fresh air). what a site we missed must have been to them. A bunch of city Slickers, who happened to have roots in the area for over 50 years. I cannot speak to the quality or service because we didn't get that far. If you were smoker and love taxidermy, this place would be for you. The website looks great - straightforward burgers, and bar fair. But jokingly we wondered if the name roadkill maybe too close for comfort for us. That's just a joke. read more

Stumbled upon this restaurant on Google Maps, and so happy we stopped by our way back up to our air b&b. Recently opened and woman-owned, with lots of history (including personal history for the owner and her family!). More power to her! We had a lovely time during our dinner, sat on the patio with our pup. The waitress and owner (Christine) were wonderful and very gracious. Our meal was very tasty - in particular the buffalo cauliflower bites (as good as wings!!) and the cowboy burger. Would definitely recommend! read more

After waiting almost an hour for our food in an empty restaurant, except a few people drinking at the bar, we finally got our food which was average at best. This is the coolest, funnest place ever! Before we went, I looked online and read the wild story of how Christine came to own the place (it had to do with her grandpa buying it for his mistress, and dying when he fell off his bar stool there, which is now memorialized with a plaque). The menu listed an amazing array of unusual meats, including kangaroo and camel (by comparison, gator seems rather ordinary). When we arrived, we were greeted by Christine herself, and given tickets for two free drinks apiece plus raffle tickets. Then we were informed it was Customer Appreciation Night, so there was a buffet of free food. And then Santa arrived, and everyone got a present because every raffle ticket was drawn (we got a chocolate snow man and a picture of Christine, which she autographed for us). Aside from all that, the food was excellent. We really enjoyed the burgers (just beef, nothing exotic) and the free food was amazing, esp. the bbq wings and the pasta. Everyone--staff and fellow customers--was friendly and in the spirit. It may not be this festive every time, but it will definitely be somewhere we go every chance we get. read more

Drove over from Kingston today for lunch because I had read about it some place although I can't remember where. Definitely our kind of place. Low brow and comfortable. Just a really relaxing group of people. A couple of bikers, a family, us, a couple of folks at the bar. I can't even imagine the stories of where all the taxidermy and all the decorations came from. Anika (my sincere apologies for any misspelling) was the bartender and server and was just such a wonderful soul. She welcomed us warmly, introduced herself, asked where we were from and then gave us a history of the place. The menu is so amazingly eclectic...rabbit, yak(?!!), wild boar but also tons of "regular" options. My husband had the venison burger and I had the blue burger. Both were definitely fresh not frozen. The onion rings had a batter on them I have never tasted before and were soooo crunchy. Sweet potato fries were amazing as was the cucumber salad. Both burgers (order medium rare) were slightly undercooked but still tasty enough to inhale in minutes. We will definitely be back soon. read more
