I used the Rear end shop many years ago and remember it as a positive experience. They also come highly recommended, and when you're getting ARB lockers installed you want people who know what they are doing. I went in pre-Covid and got a quote which was $3200. I lost that quote and they where unable to find it in their system. My new quote is $4200, but with out the other quote they can't explain why. I called around and found out that $4G to have both installed was the going rate. So I figured the $3200 quote was a mistake. Since I needed these installed prior to going to the Rubicon and my trip was approaching, I went with them, (and the other shop was saying they couldn't get it done when I needed it done by.) The day before my appointment I found out they didn't have the parts in and I wasn't going to be able to get the front locker. So I pushed my appointment back a week to make sure they had the rear in the store (since that was also going to take longer) before I I dropped off my Jeep. I was able to get the front locker delivered to me in 4 days after finding it on Amazon, so I'm not sure why they couldn't get one. (Maybe no profit for them if they get it at the amazon price like the general public instead of a likely discounted rate from a supplier, etc.) They had my Jeep for two days and I found out it would not be done by the end of day. They said that the seals in the front are different from the JK to JKU models and they got the wrong ones. I had to take a day off work and use 12hrs of my PTO because of this! Now on the third day I called at 11:00 am to see if the parts came in. I told Josh I needed this done by the end of day, and that I cannot miss another day of work- I said someone in town has to have the correct seals - He replied "he's waiting on UPS and if they could have gotten it local they would have, and waiting on ups is messing with him" So finally at 15:20 I heard back that I will get my Jeep back that day. I show up at just before 17:00 to pick it up. They had my Jeep out front and ready for me. I go to get my keys and I ask Josh so do I just turn on compressor and then flip switch for lockers? I find out at this point that they didn't install the airline or hook up the SPOD and compressor, even though I told them I had both. Josh told me ohh you wanted us to connect it. Normally people want to run there own air lines. That night I called and left a voice message for there manager or owner to call me. Thursday at 11am I called again and left a message with Josh, that I wanted the owner or manager to call me. Monday came around, and no phone call. I stopped by the shop at about 1600hrs and talked to Josh. I dropped off Jeep. I found that there was air leaking around both solenoids, luckily one of our club members is a mechanic and was able to help me. We found that there was nothing used on the threads to stop the air from leaking! We had to remove the manifold out of the jeep, and redo what was not done correctly. We also found that they were not tight. After properly installing the solenoids and re-installing the manifold we still had air leaking from somewhere. We found air leaking from the connection at the front differential because it was not installed tight enough!But we still had a leak so I crawled under the jeep and started to check the rear line, and when I found that it had burned through, they had ran the line so close to the exhaust that it burned through and I was left with two separate lines and two piece of melted tubing! This was under the jeep, so I could not stretch it to the manifold. We were able to use the propane line from my camping stove to do a "bush fix" with a couple of hose clamps. Sunday I had both lockers working and what a difference that made. Would have been nice to have that for the whole trail! I left a message about failure. 8 days no call back. I absolutely cannot believe that they are not even willing to return my phone call, after charging me almost $4,000, and me calling over 8 times. I cannot believe someone can own a business and care so little about the quality of the work, and even if for some reason some justification could be found for all the mishaps, with such little care for a customer's experience, and to not even have the common courtesy to return my phone call- this really undermines my trust in them, as they seem to just care about the money not the quality of the job and far less about their relationships with their customers. I will never use this shop again. It's sad because they used to have a good reputation. But now they over promise and under deliver... I cannot imagine they will stay in business long if they continue this behavior. As for my part, I will absolutely make sure that if I can save someone else the trouble with them I will- no one should have to go through this! Had to delete part of my review. I just found out that the rear end shop installed the wrong ring and pinion gears in my F150 4x4 when they rebuilt it. Now I must go to the Better Business Bureau and report negligence since they went out of business this year. After testing my cars alignment he determined that it didn't require any additional tweaking. This was not my first time here. I have had nothing but honest and fair treatment. You have to know I used to do the stuff they do here but no longer have the tools or drive to do it. Total professional and excellent work. I had a leaking differential cover I called 2 Dealerships, no one could get me in. I needed to be at work at Sonoma Raceway, where I work with Race Operation's, for our NASCAR weekend event totally under the gun. I called the guys at 2:00 pm, Thursday, they had my truck on the rack within 10 minutes of me walking in. It was more than a leaking cover,needing a new carrier assembly and axle. They arranged for a rental and had me set for my work weekend. I have never been to such an honest, efficient, well priced mechanic in my life! This place is amazing, and I never thought I would say that about a mechanic, but truly they are a special place! I brought in my 1991 Jeep Grand Wagoneer when she was making a horrible grinding noise in the rear. I was referred to them by my regular neighborhood mechanic in Petaluma. I had recently purchased my wagoneer, so I asked them to go over some other issues I was having in addition to the rear end, and they were able to fix her right up! They worked on the front end (they also have "The Front End Shop") and fixed some engine and alignment issues. Dan, the owner, is so nice and gives it to you straight and doesn't try to get you to do anything that you don't need to. Their prices are good and fair. All the other guys are very nice and helpful as well. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but as a woman I often feel like I should have my husband deal with mechanics, but I didn't feel like that here at all. Dan showed me everything that needed to be done, I was under my car looking at things I never thought I would, and he explained everything so well, I feel like I had a little crash course in mechanics! I almost never take the time to write a review, but this place made me do it. Not only was the service exceptional, but the quality of work is top tier. I have been working on my 2003 Mach 1 for years, and this time I could not fix it. My whole rear end blew out and it needed new pinion gears as well as housing unit and a few other things I was not going to mess with. Long story short they told me every detail of what had to be done and needed repairs, and also made sure I was receiving high grade performance parts. Anyone who knows their own car, loves these kind of details. Overall really great experience and I was able to up my gear ratio to 3.73 without losing to much mpg. I had a problem with my G37S making a clunk noise every time I put it into Drive or Reverse. I brought it in to get a diagnostic and this was my first time coming to The Rear End Shop. There Joshua greeted me and asked me for my availability, made an appointment and then I brought it in. From the start of when I came in to when they diagnosed the problem Joshua gave me great customer service and not only me but everyone else that walked in or called. He had Juan look at my car and test drive it. After they found out the bolts were loose on the rear axle and he ended up tightening up to where the sound was gone. It was an easy fix but coming in resulted in great customer service I really recommend this place. read more

This place was great the first time. So I took my truck in to have the brakes done. I had already bought the parts. They quoted me $400. They had to replace a caliper at $159 and charged me $765 total. I looked under my truck and a bungee cord was left hanging on my truck, that could of been fun. It just made me realize that they hadn't checked their work. Sure enough. I had to take it back in to have my pins adjusted, they were loose. What a bunch of hacks! They were honest once then super shady since. Always nice to your face, but they do sloppy work, at least with my vehicle. I'd give no stars, but I have to. read more

This place is a gem! Accurate diagnosis and the final price came in as quoted. They insist ion using only the best parts for the job and the results speak for themselves. My Mustang needed a new power steering rack as well as rear differential work. They completed the work in under 2 days (a bit sooner than promised) and addressed a few other minor things along the way without nickel-and-diming (is that a word?!?) me to death! I took a differential to The Rear End Shop to have it shorten and the differential assembled. When I got it back the case was full of rust that would have destroyed the new differential and they welded it up misaligned. I took it back and they fixed it, but the quality of work was poor and the took a long time and never even offered to make and adjustment for my time running back and forth and waiting. If my son an auto tech hadn't discovered all the rust in the housing it would have destroyed everthing. read more

I brought my 1992 Ford Explorer to them and had the rear end serviced and the inspection revealed that I needed a new axle because the bearing was on the way out. They installed a new axle, a limited slip clutch pack and filled the rear end with the proper fluid. I drove the vehicle to Montana and gave it to our son knowing that the vehicle was in good mechanical shape. Fast work and a fair price. I will be back if any of my other vehicles need differential repair. read more

Brought in a Ford 9" center section that I was aware needed a complete rebuild, my Jeep isn't a daily driver so I wasn't too worried about having it done asap but they had it done within a few days for me. The end price ended up being more than what I was originally quoted because of my center section having a rare, older style posi that had more expensive clutches (I was already aware that it had this style posi,and the owner was more than grateful that I knew this and understood the price discrepancy) but the owner was able to get the price back down within a few dollars of what I was originally quoted. Have a few hundred miles on it and it feels smoother than it has in years. The inside of the third member was spotless too when I picked it up, they cleaned the heck out of it in a parts bin I assume. Not a huge deal, but I was stoked that it looked so fresh. Great customer service, quality work and reasonable prices. Definitely wouldn't hesitate to bring them more work myself and refer friends/family. Thanks again! read more

Had an alignment done only to have the wrong specs input in. Went back to have them changed because I was questioning the specs on paper. Doug wasn't too enthusiastic about it and gave me a tone of voice mentioning, "will it make you happy if I put the right ones on?" Well sir, every little bit counts especially when my ride was pulling hard to the right even though it wasn't before hand. He made supposedly the changes on it and still pulled to the right even though my car is still new. Fascinates me how it barely took any time to make the changes even though I waited close to an hour my first visit and only 5 minutes on my second. I don't feel that he made any changes. Specs are different on every car but to him "it was still in the ball park, all models are similar." Ask any mechanic and they will tell you specs differs from car to car no matter what. Disappointed in having Doug tell me it won't make a difference. I wouldn't recommend this place. Not when they project an attitude of not wanting to correct their own mistakes. I paid for the service. So I should be entitled to get what I paid for not something else. I should of just gone to the dealership and paid the extra to have it done right especially since they can't deny service and hold themselves accountable to the fullest extent. Not this place, they will tell you all this jargon and argue with you so they don't have to re-do their service. Had they taken me back without a hassle I give them 3 stars but Doug gave me attitude for something simple as well as my car isn't driving straight. I go elsewhere... read more
