This place got mixed reviews but I was willing to give it a try. Sadly, I was very disappointed. Cons: Service was slow and unfriendly. Our server (I think her name was Audry or Aubry) passed our table once after about 7 minutes with, "I'll be right with you." When she circled back again, she took the order of a table across from us, then passed us, again saying, "I'll be right with you." After about a total of 15 minutes, she arrived at our table full of attitude and no eye contact to take our order. Needless to say, service nor attitude improved throughout our visit. We waited a few minutes for cream (creamer was out) and had empty coffee mugs. Another waitress was kind enough to refill our coffee with a smile, kind word, and eye contact even (blond woman, older than our server). Our server did not ask how our food was--I have a feeling she did not care. She dropped off our check minutes after dropping off our food without saying anything or even looking at us. As for our food....it was not great. I asked for crispy bacon and hashbrowns. I got burnt bacon (with the exception of the raw part you can see in the pic). My hashbrowns were not crispy at all and under the slightly brown on top they were almost raw. My toast was one small piece of sourdough. My over-easy eggs were ok, at least edible but a bit overdone. It would have been nice to have a decent amount of toast and good hashbrowns to eat with them. Pros: Inexpensive...but you get what you pay for. Food arrived quickly. I would not recommend. This was a very unpleasant breakfast experience. There are better places and friendlier places to eat in Carson City where the server probably won't have the personality of a snake! read more

Surley waitress, watery hot chocolate spilled all over the mug, what a beginning to my birthday lunch. The food did nothing to save this review. $10.99 two topping waffle was not worth the price! Waffle was 1/8 inch thick and white (as in not cooked). Two dollops of whipped cream, 3-4 strawberries and a sliced banana. Cold grilled cheese sandwich with cold french fries. If you like bread n butter pickles you are in luck. Pickle juice all over the bottom bun made it soggy. Cold fries "made" the meal. Oh yeah, the side salad came out with the burger and fries. Another waitress stopped by once after she dropped off our meal. We never saw the original waitress again. Skip this Red Hut and go to the one by Lake Tahoe. BTW We stopped by Wendy's and picked up two meals for $9.12 that were perfectly done AND food was hot. read more

Waited for several minutes at the hostess podium and made eye contact with at least four employees- no one came to take our name. Myself and two other groups added our name to the list. I saw five tables that could seat four and two tables that could seat two that were empty. Still, no one came to get our names or seat us. Two more groups came in to wait while the original two left due to the lack of service. (I have been here before and the food was great, otherwise I would have left too!) After waiting 15 minutes, we were escorted to a table. We asked for the booth that had been vacant the entire wait and were given a sigh and an excuse of, "it needs to be cleaned." It was cleaned quickly and we were seated. My turkey/cranberry sandwich was good. My husband liked his bacon cheeseburger. My daughter said she's had better waffles at a continental breakfast. (Not worth $10) Waitress brought out check with the food and we never saw her again. Had to ask another waitress for syrup and a water refill. Not going back for a LONG time! On the road from Bishop to Reno stopped for lunch about 12:30 Sunday afternoon. Place was full but not packed--no waiting to be seated. So there should have been no reason to wait ten minutes for someone to take our order. What made it even more exasperating was a couple sat down in booth across the aisle from us five minutes after we sat down and waitress who had our section took their order, chatted then walked by and tapped our table, "I'll be with you folks in a minute." Really? Food was okay, not worth the price however. Had the grilled turkey and ortega sandwich, nothing great to make it an $8-9 sandwich. My wife had a cold turkey sandwich, it did have a lot of turkey but was really just a sandwich. I like their story, but it seems their food has to catch up to their reputation of their original shop. Me with a friend for lunch. Place wasn't too busy. Staff is sways friendly, they seat you right away. I had the turkey burger with avocado. My friend had a salad. We both enjoyed our meals. Service is primped and good. Food is always hot and comes out fast. So if you don't have a long lunch this is a good place to come to. I was there at 1:00 so they were winding down. The Red Hut was not that impressive. The quality if the food was pretty good, but the service had much to be desired. We wanted to order a waffle combo and I forgot what else, but this was not an option. We asked the server how we could get what we wanted and she said we needed I order the eggs and bacon as a side. That seemed weird, but we went with it. Needless to say we ended up with a decently expensive bill as it was like we ordered three meals for two people and it wasn't even that much food. My first experience at Red hut was very enjoyable, so I brought my boyfriend in so he could try it! I ordered a Virgin Bloody Mary, very spicy, but very good. We both ordered a bagel breakfast sandwich with our eggs over-medium. His eggs came out over well and mine came out Over hard! I'm not one to send food back or complain, but this time I did. I didn't eat the sandwich at all and had asked them if they could take it off the bill because we didn't have time so wait for new eggs! If service had been more efficient we would have time to wait for my eggs to be remade! We had heard great things about this place so we decided to pop in. It was busy and loud, but it had a positive energy. I ordered a two egg breakfast and was looking forward to dunking my toast into my eggs (a secret indulgence of mine!). However, they only gave me one piece and I wouldn't have been able to finish it anyway as I ran out of my beverage after the first two bites. We tried to wave down our waitress (after politely waiting for over 10 minutes), but she walked right on by. The other staff ignored us as well as they were too busy chatting with regulars or others they knew. After being served, the staff walked by us over 20 times and not once did they stop. The waitress only came by once after that and that was to do a drive-by drop off of our ticket. So, the food was ok (the sausages are those preformed turds and the toast was scarce) and the service sucked. Not worth my time to go back as I would have more fun at the DMV. read more

It's not my favorite Red Hut. Nestled between an adult store and another restaurant, it's just another coffee shop. The food is OK - but nothing to write home about. The restaurant is very big, which gives it an impersonal feel compared to the other Red Huts. It just isn't the same intimate experience. I will say that the service is good, the wait staff is friendly and it is clean. But, it just doesn't feel like the old fashioned Red Huts in Tahoe. read more

OK, I've been going to Red Hut since 1984. Started at the original under the previous owners when you had RC cola and one salad dressing (Russian, IIRC). My work moved to Nevada and they opened the NV location a few years later. The Kingsbury location was great around 2000. But over the last decade the breakfasts have declined - even bad ham, once. So, we knocked it off our breakfast list but still had a couple of lunches a year, there. So, now we've been to the Carson City store twice. My go to at every diner or bar with food is a burger, substitute salad, no tomato on either. A few months ago, friendly service, everything acknowledged or repeated - and chopped tomatoes on the salad. Past Saturday, the server was in a different zone. My wife ordered the diet plate with fruit (cottage cheese, burger patty) and she asked if her dish came with egg or not. Mastering the menu used to be server task #1. I ordered one of the burgers, substitute salad, no tomatoes. Knowing the past trip, my wife echoed, no tomatoes. The server wrote v e r y slowly and repeated back the order. When she said, "salad, blue cheese", I again said no tomatoes. Of course, chopped tomatoes. Finally, she spaced our to go cup for about five minutes after I had paid the check. Lunch food is a solid three with an upside for not charging extra to substitute a salad. Service, not so solid. read more

I found myself back in the Tahoe area visiting family again and we decided to try the Red Hut Cafe in Carson City. The location on Kingbury Grade was so good, we thought why not? We walked in and it was kind of early 7:30 a.m. on a Sunday so to have only two people in the place wasn't a red flag for us. The menu is the same as the one up on the grade. We ordered the same thing to see the difference. The service was strange as it was slow and we were the only ones in the restaurant, beside the other table which they were already finishing up with their food. The biscuits and gravy were ok. Gravy was kind of watery. The Red Hout Rosti was okay as well. Not much flavor. It seemed to be missing some seasoning. Overall, it was just okay. I wouldn't go back unlike the location up near the lake. I don't know why things aren't the same since they are owned and operated by the same people. That is not faint praise because most places I have found, don't get the hash browns prepared or cooked properly. I like this place but, I had to knock off one star because the coffee is sub par. It is weak, weak, weak. What's up with that? Again, I like this place and it pains me to knock off yet another star but the waitresses are just not on their game when it comes to refilling the coffee cup. I really hate negativity, but, this Mother's Day 5/13/18 our Son and family drove up from California, just to take Mom out for breakfast. We found all the restaurants with waiting lines, so we went here, and no waiting, which should have been an indication. We had to wait about 20 minutes, and were seated in their back room, and service was right there for our order. It took a good half hour to get our food, but that was okay as we could visit with our family.. Everyones food was bland, and for those who ordered a sandwich with meat, the meat was flavorless. Our Grandson asked for Ranch Dressing to put some flavor in his sandwich, and 20 minutes later, they brought it...too late. I had just a simple Waffle, and couldn't cut it without a knife, and had to ask for syrup. The waffle was cold, and so was the syrup...?? All this for $7 My wife had an omalate (sp) which she couldn't eat because it was cold, and the raisin toast was almost burnt. I have to assume that since this is somewhat of a chain, that all of their restaurants are the same, and that's a shame. I can't give more than one star, as this isn't the way food should be served on a Special Day like Mother's Day. I will not recommend this as a good place to eat (anything) or even buy a T-Shirt.....too BAD !! read more

Been here for breakfast several times with my mother. Not a lot of places for a sit down breakfast in this area besides the casino coffee shops. I like the Red Hut. I've had omelets several times and they're very good. The last time I went here I tried the french toast. Not the best I've ever had, but still very tasty. I have yet to try anything, but breakfast food. They have sandwiches and burgers, as well as a small ice cream fountain. read more

My wife and I have been visiting Red Hut in Carson City since they opened and before that in South Lake Tahoe. Today we decided to have breakfast there because my wife sometimes likes a BLT with crispy French Fries for breakfast. This morning I deviated from the "Usual" and ordered Sausage and Eggs. I like my eggs Sunnyside Up. Sunnyside is a little more difficult to cook but just about any cook worth hiring can master the job. When we were served (the server did her job very well) I was appalled. There on my plate was three tiny ( about two inches long) very overcooked sausages. Along with the sausages were two under cooked eggs and overdone hash rows potatoes. I ate most of it, mostly because it was 10:00AM and I didn't want to wait for whatever may have been served if I had returned it to the kitchen. I brought it to the attention of our server and she did take $3.00 off our bill but the cook should be ashamed of herself for letting the plate go out of the kitchen. This is the second time I've lived right next to a Red Hut, but I've been deterred by the Yelp reviews. Seems you either love it or hate it. I went to this location (my first and only visit to a Red Hut) with my young daughter and a friend and her young daughter. We waited several minutes (probably 5 or more) to be acknowledged and seated (almost left). We ordered simple, traditional breakfast items like a 2 egg breakfast and country fried steak. My food was not warm and not delicious. The atmosphere was dark. The service wasn't horrible, but I will never return nor recommend this place to anyone due to the lack of speed and mediocre food and service. read more

As we continued to wait we watched as people would just get up and leave due to lack of service. Once we finally got our breakfast 2 of the 3 orders we made were wrong.
