Pastelillos de pollo y chorizo, modelo y mojito
    Jocelyn B.

Best pastelillos we had in all Puerto Rico! We were bar hopping on the upper end of San Juan, and decided to walk down and explore a bit. My husband saw the word BAR in red and took it as a sign. Looking at the pastelillos prices and most importantly the mojito deal we decided to try it out. There's so much flavor in the pastelillos, we ended up trying out the chorizo, carne and pollo, with both mayo ketchup and their salsa. We liked them so much, we ended up coming back again that night after stopping by a few other bars. Service was good, the first time we went the music playing was pop (Miley Cyrus, Dua Lipa, The Weeknd) which I like, but I wasn't loving it. Later during our second stop though, they had started to play reggaeton videos (Bad Bunny, Ferxxo, Myke Towers) so the vibe was more my style. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because their women's restroom was out of order, and the men's restroom was in bad shape. It seemed like the sink and toilet were leaking all over the floor. I'd definitely stop by for some more pastelillos and mojitos!

Cute little place with super fresh mint 2 x $13 (Barcardi) mojito special (yummy) and 2 x $6 Medalla beers. Some bar food on the menu too - but we didn't get a chance to try. Interesting rustic stone interior that looks like it's been there forever. No A/C (pretty standard) but lots of ceiling/floor fans. Bar pretty busy even early with mostly tourists and maybe a couple locals ... but bartender was very attentive and got to us pretty quickly.

This bar is such a gem in Old San Juan. We bellied up to the bar where they were playing music videos (80s, 90s alternative rock) on the tv. Such a cool vibe. They also have turnovers available to order which are so tasty! The bartenders were wonderful and attentive. We came here twice during our trip because we enjoyed it so much,

This will be our 4th time in Old San Juan. We have flow here and cruised from and to. If you take the time to walk the hilly cobble stone streets there are several little hidden gems. We stumbled across The Hidden Monkey and always come back to visit. It is a staple establishment with Old style charm. Juan is a great man and always greets us with a smile and a cold beverage. The rock music is very refreshing to the ears. Highly recommend you seek this place out, and tell Juan that Pablo sent you!

A friend and I were looking for a place to rest and get some drinks after touring the historic sites in Old San Juan and walking a ton. The Red Monkey was close by and had a great 2 for 1 mojito special so we stopped in. We quickly placed an order for mojitos and sat at a high top table facing outdoors. While we waiting for our drinks to be delivered, I saw a chalk sign with pastelillo options. I didn't know what pastelillo was, but I wanted to try the carne one and placed and order for it. My friend ordered chicken. We sipped the strong mojitos and soon the pastelillos arrived. They're basically empanadas, but crunchier, in my opinion. The waiter brought us a sauce in a bottle and I ripped a piece of the pastelillo off to dip in the sauce. BOTH were delicious. I gobbled my pastelillo up and proceeded to order a chorizo version. The chorizo pastelillo came out shortly thereafter, and while it wasn't as good as the carne, it was still very appetizing. Paying the bill was easy (and cheap!) and I was pleased to have had some local street food on my trip to PR. Great experience!

Wonderful random find! My wife and I were on a cruise stop in San Juan, looking for a place to eat that wasn't the ship (long story). We randomly ducked into this place and what a wonderful find it was! Pastelillos (fried turnovers like empeñadas but crispier) were a hit. Rather cheap too.

While visiting Puerto Rico in August, I made it a point to have a Mojitos every day with the exception of trying the two spots for famous Pina Colada's. We were all over the island for ten days and when we found this Awesome Bar right down the street from our Airbnb in Old San Juan, we kept coming back! The Owner Bartender definitely knows how to make a great Mojito. As we later found out when back home in Florida, from a friend of our who back in the day was his neighbor in Puerto Rico that he's Cuban. We went back so many times that even got a T- shirt .

We were looking for a place for dinner but many places were closed because of the Mother's Day holiday. When we walked by this place, it looked inviting and there was good music playing, so we decided to take a chance. The friendly owner greeted us and said that they only had a modest menu, but that was fine for us. We had homemade pastelillos with homemade hot sauce and they were great! Couple that with sangria and mojito specials and we had an unexpectedly nice evening.

We went here while exploring old San Juan a few weeks ago. We just stopped by for a mojito since all other places were extremely packed. The mojito was amazing which is why I'm giving this place 3 stars. The guy running the place was very bothered that we came in. We asked to see the drink menu and he huffed and puffed bringing it to us. We felt like a huge inconvenience even though we were the only people in the entire place. Once he got his money for the drinks he became nice all of a sudden. I don't come to restaurants for a half-nice experience. This was a waste of our time since our money isn't appreciated. We won't be back for sure

One room, the main area had salsa, dancing, and music and eventually at 9:30 PM a live salsa band came on. That was a whole lot of fun however it was very crowded. The second room had a nice house music going on. There was a bar and a DJ and it was not as busy as the main area was. And the third room was the bar that leads to the outside called La Cubanita, which was playing mellow lounge music with a tropical beat. The food at La Factoria was definitely overrated and just OK. I did not think it was worth the price and I probably would not eat there again. None of us really liked what we ordered, but we ate it because well... We were hungry. They do offer a wide range of beverages from your standard beer, wine, and top shelf brands, however, they are known for their own concoctions. All of the drinks we ordered were delicious. Overall, we had fun, and it was not too pricey for the beverages. I don't think that I would ever go again, especially not later in the week as it is so busy, and we went on a Monday and we were dancing cheek to cheek!!! Enjoy!

We were thrilled when we finally walked through the door again after wracking our brains to remember our favorite spot in Old Town. Upon entering, we were greeted by a young woman who, mentioned it was her very first day as an assistant to the bartender. Despite being brand new, she was warm, engaged, and genuinely welcoming, excited for us that we had made it back after several years, and impressed with our efforts. Shortly thereafter the bartender on duty approached us mid-conversation, visibly irritated. When I mentioned that we hadn't yet decided on drinks but were being well taken care of in the meantime, she interrupted sharply to bark at us that she was the bartender and the ONLY one who could help us. The tone was unwelcoming enough that after a moment, my companion and I determined that we would prefer to move on and left without ordering. The atmosphere is truly special, and it deserves to be matched by the experience guests receive at the bar. Our experience was simply not the vibe that night, and I truly was disappointed FOR the new hire who was doing what she should in engaging us until we could be served. I sincerely hope to return on a future visit to San Juan and to rediscover the experience that first brought me back to La Grieta.

I came here to celebrate my birthday and unfortunately, they fell short in every possible category. The layout is a major issue. We paid the $10 per person fee for the piano room, only to be squeezed in elbow-to-elbow with strangers. The tables are so tiny I literally had to eat out of my lap to avoid spilling food on my clothes. Even the basic facilities were a struggle; the women's bathroom was so cramped and unaccommodating that I could barely even sit down. When we asked to move to a more comfortable space, the hostess and waitress refused, citing nearby reservations. The kitchen and service were equally disappointing. After waiting over an hour for our entrees, the food arrived mediocre and tasteless. The steak had zero seasoning, and the mashed potatoes were dry and flavorless--essentially just a boiled potato thrown on a plate. The service was the final straw. When I tried to flag down a server to send the potatoes back, he told me he would "get her." When our waitress finally arrived, I explained the issue and she simply replied, "I know." No apology, no offer to bring something else, and no effort to make it right. To be met with that level of rudeness on my birthday was shocking. This was a complete waste of time and money--I won't be returning.
