Wow! I would give more stars if I could. I gave my wife instructions to find a new restaurant to try with the only caveat being it had to be Italian. She saw this place and was intrigued by the vibe. She said reviews are calling it a hidden gem. Let me tell you, the reviews are right. The day of the reservation I got a text to confirm with instructions how to get there! This was a very nice touch and appreciated. Once we got there, we were greeted by the manager and everyone said hello! I don't know if this is because it was still early but this made us feel special. Our reservation was at 5:45 which I thought was kinda early. Nothing else was available till 9 tough. I will say it was nice being there before the rush but getting there after 6:30 would have been better just to see the jazz musicians more. This place fills up fast. It accommodates at least 3 big parties with nice booths on the side. The bar looked very inviting too. Our waiter and the rest of the staff couldn't have been nicer. We started with wine and a meatball appetizer that the waiter prepared in front of us. It was excellent. For entrees, I chose the gnocchi and my wife had the cacio e pepe. Both were outstanding. We knew we were getting desert and were warned the chocolate souffle takes 45min so we ordered that with our entrees. We were not prepared for what came next. The souffle could feed about 10 men ill tell you what. Its enormous. We ate as much as we could and took the rest home. We were extremely impressed with The Red Room. The food was fantastic. Everyone was so nice. They are very efficient too. Even when it was super busy, they still came around pretty frequently. I think next time we will try and arrive a little later or sit at the bar. We went to The Red Room twice in a week. The first time we visited, I immediately fell in love with the place...the ambience, the food, the live music. Just a great "good times" feeling! We shared our enthusiasm with my brother and sister in law and they jumped at wanting to go and that following Saturday was booked. This time the owner, Domenico, was there and came by our table to welcome us. He asked all our names and after saying my first name, he almost immediately remembered my last name (which is not a common name), from my reservation. That was a pleasant surprise and made us feel just a little more special. We will definitely be back and next time try sitting at the bar to enjoy our meal and music from that perspective. What an unfortunate interaction we had with this restaurant, which in my opinion shows how little they truly value their customers and business. My awesome BFF made reservations to come here with me for my birthday on Saturday, August 9 at 7pm. Reservations were made through yelp and confirmed by her to the restaurant the day prior. Being busy people who have to specially carve out time away from our families to hangout, we were excited to finally get some facetime with good food and drinks, in what looks to be a fun restaurant with music. At 2:21pm on the day of our 7pm reservation, the Red Room sends her a message that our reservation is cancelled because a prior party increased their numbers. Screenshot of the message that was sent to my friend is from the Red Room is attached. She's so understanding, that she even sent them a follow up message to see if they had any other times available on the same day. After ruining our plans, the Red Room couldn't even be bothered to respond to her message! When she told me what happened, I was so flabbergasted as I have never heard of a restaurant treating their customers this way. I immediately told her that I wasn't interested in patronizing this business even if they had another time available. The way this was communicated to us shows a complete disregard for our time and business is honestly shocking. I understand that things happen: VIPs show up, reservations get overbooked, staff doesn't show up, any number of things. If the restaurant is at fault (as they clearly are here), I would expect a phone call from the venue explaining the situation, an apology for forcing us to change our plans when we had made reservations, and an invitation to return another day with a small gesture from them (free app, dessert, or whatever). This is what I would expect from a business that genuinely cares about its customers and is actually apologetic about the situation. Instead we have the Red Room. Disappointing all around. I would not recommend anyone patronize this business. Also be weary if you have a reservation here. You may think your table is secure for a fun night out - but the restaurant might bump you for someone else they deem more important than you! This place has great potential but is far from a speakeasy especially since I have gone to same really amazing speakeasies over the last couple of years that are truly an experience. The whole point of a speakeasy is the mystery of how to enter the venue with a password or a special door, but here the front doors were wide open after you got to the end of the red carpet. The Red Room is located in the "Celebrations" venue in Costa Mesa just off the 55 freeway. You walk down a long red carpet with twinkle lights into the bar/restaurant/lounge venue - reminds me of an old Vegas lounge vibe. My friend and I decided to split everything so we went with the bruschetta to start (sadly not great and looked and tasted like something from Trader Joe's that I could have made at home), the Caesar Salad (was fine but nothing special), and the Short Rib for our entree (Very dry meat with way too much sauce that was overpowering with mediocre quality root vegetables. Felt almost like banquet food that had been sitting out too long at a wedding). There was literally one other party on a Thursday night with not one customer who came in after us so the place was empty. The band was not too loud but the musical selection was definitely sleepy for a dinner environment. It was nice that the kitchen split everything for us in the back and all food was delivered extremely quickly, almost too quickly to be honest. For a $92 dinner per person after tax and tip ($184 total for two) the experience was not worth it. The venue gears toward Italian food, but none of the pastas were appealing and seemed way too heavy/rich. I regularly spend $100+ a person in Vegas for dinner/drinks, so for the right experience, absolutely willing to pay, but this place unfortunately did not match the 4.8-5 star ratings I had seen based on Yelp and OpenTable reviews. The owner Domenico was very nice and personable, but given the competitive market of better value and quality restaurants in the area, Red Room has some room for serious improvement. read more

What a great experience!! I'm from Newport and was looking for something a bit different for my girlfriend's birthday. Tired of A's, Ocean 48, and the rest of the same o'l restaurants, don't get me wrong they are good places, but wanted something different and boy were we surprised. Domenico the owner runs a very intimate setting and is also a great entertainer, he sings and has two band members playing Sax and the other on the piano, think frank Sinatra, dean Martin, etc. engages the crowd and just a great time. We came in at 7 and shut the place down, it's that entertaining!! I had a milestone birthday party at the Red Room and it was an absolute dream. The ambiance was perfect: Low lighting, fabulous jazz tunes and delectable food. We were a very large group and the service was perfect. All 18 of us received our entrees within about two minutes of each other. Quite a feat! Our reservation was at 7pm and we shut down the club. A lot of work for the staff, but it was all smiles. Domenico the owner is always so gracious and lovely and really pulled out all the stops for me on my special day. I don't rate restaurants 5 stars very often if ever. I found this gem after a night at "Daytime" at Time nightclub across the street. Upon entering we were greeted and accommodated promptly even though we were ahead of our reservation time. We were seated at a beautiful booth just to the right of the musicians. We were actually seated up close to the stage originally, but a few minutes after we sat, they said the booth opened up and asked if we preferred to move there. We felt a great vibe instantly in this venue. Red definitely fills the room and beautiful paintings dress the walls. The staff were friendly, professional, kind, and the ambiance was perfect. The owner, Domenico, whom we met later, was singing along with a saxophone and guitarist. They performed a variety of music genres of well known songs. I don't know if it's a common occurrence, but many folks around the room joined in singing, clapping, and dancing. As I said, the vibe lended itself to such. Then we ordered our food and I am bummed that I didn't not take photos but we had the Arancini and Bruschetta to start. Both were very good and our waitress split the Arancini for us at the table. We followed that with Short Ribs al Vino Rosso and Spaghetti Cacio e Pepe. All the food came out promptly and beautifully presented. They make their pasta fresh and the short rib is slow cooked. Both tasted delicious and in my opinion, perfectly seasoned. Nothing felt heavy or overpowering by some other element of the dish. As our meal neared completion, more dancing ensued and at some point another patron asked if she could sing. What a treat. Lily H. Clark who is a local singer and songwriter proceeded to sing two songs in Spanish. I don't know the name of the first song but the second was Mi vida es un carnival by Celia Cruz. Lily crushed it. After that, we ordered Tiramisu and gelato. Again, very good as was the entire meal. We had a great time and it was also great to see the staff was enjoying the vibes as well. We could see them vibing to the music and could tell they were happy to be working there. The owner, went around greeting the guest and that is when we met him and learned about his vision for the restaurant. Our server was warm, polished, & attentive, & Kenny's hospitality truly stood out--he even pulled our table out for us instead of making us squeeze into the booth, a small but thoughtful touch that showed both the cleanliness of the space and his attention to detail. Even when I called earlier to confirm the reservation (after my own mix-up), the woman on the phone was so professional & kind. The staff follows in Domenico's footsteps and, even when the night gets busy, they treat us like family and ensure our night is the best. The entertainment last night was the duo of Marcelo on guitar, and Walter on saxaphone. Both are talented, seasoned professionals and gentlemen whom we have come to know and appreciate.
