A north Jersey resident on the hunt for good BBQ, my wife and I drove 25 minutes to this restaurant. It was easy to get to and dig this; It had a drive-thru! I kid you not. We were 3rd in line and it took probably 20 minutes, but it was fine, we weren't in a rush. First, the good: I ordered a half rack of ribs, a chopped chicken sandwich, 1/4 of Brisket and a 1/4 of burnt ends. The ends were amazing, the ribs were juicy and the meat fell off the bone. The baked beans were thick and delicious, as was the cornbread. The chopped chicken improved with a serving of their "sweet sawse" BBQ sauce. The brisket I was really looking forward to and, unfortunately, it was both dry and under-seasoned in my humble opinion. It was just... 2 slices of brisket. All of the above and a garbage can sized coke for the incredibly reasonable price of $56. The ribs and burnt ends really made this an excellent stop. Enjoy :) read more

I read about his place in Our State magazine and it sounded great, so on this trip to see my grandson in Benson I mentioned The Lab to my son and he says "yea., that place is great" - so we went. In a gas station, so I was skeptic when we drove up, but once we entered the Lab all doubt was removed, oh that smoky flavor. Not a date night kind of place, no table service, you order at the window and eat with plastic forks. Pulled Pork was superb, 5 stars. They do whole hog Q, my fav. Jalapeno Mac and Cheese - 5+ stars. The competition sauce was fantastic, hinted that a case of that delight would make a great Christmas present - we will see if he took the hint. No room for the 10 layer cake, but it sure did look good. Maybe next time I'll just come for dessert. read more

the quality of the meat (especially brisket) is unequaled in NC. The quality of the sides are consistently outstanding. The portion sizes are unequaled. e.g. the chopped pork BBQ sandwich is a great value as they use a fist-sized portion of pork. The ordering system could use some work - they have a lot of inefficiencies in how they run the line that could be easily improved upon. The location (gas station) is ridiculously bad. Once they move to north Raleigh as their headquarters location, watch out; it could be inundated with customers for years. Good gas station bbq but really bad service. The cashier was rude while we ordered. After we paid we found a table to sit at. We waited 20+ minutes thinking that our bbq was taking long because there were many people who ordered. The manager then approached us asking if we were waiting on something, we mentioned that we were waiting for our food. The manager asked for our name and proceeded to assist us in finding our order. She went down the line of asking all the associates if they prepared our order. The cashier had deleted our order off the screen. The manager was clearly upset and coached the cashier in the moment without hesitation. From the moment we ordered to the moment we got our food, I notified the cashier staring at my family multiple times. The manager apologized and gave us some banana pudding. After we received our food the cashier came from behind the counter into the dining area and walked by us and rolled her eyes. Might be a long shot but we were the only people of color during our entire time dining and everyone else received their order within 5-7 minutes of ordering. Brisket 9/10- Tender and juicy. Recommend dipping into a mixture of the spicy bbq sauce with the vinegar sauce. Smoked Turkey 9/10- Not dry and had great flavor. Dip it in the spicy bbq. Banana Pudding 3/10- Artificial banana taste. Sweet BBQ sauce 3/10- Personally it's too sweet for my liking. Spicy BBQ sauce 5/10- Not spicy enough and it's still sweet. Vinegar sauce 5/10- Very acidic, tastes better when you mix it with one of the bbq sauces. read more

Excellent place for BBQ! This restaurant was crowded in the middle of the day so we suspected it would be the place to eat. We also heard positive reviews from coworkers. As a result, we ordered takeout for dinner the next day. We wanted a good variety so we ordered a pulled pork sandwich ($6.50), 1/4 lb pork ($4.50), 1/4 lb brisket ($6), sausage links ($4.50 each), cornbread ($0.75), chicken salad sandwich ($5.99), slaw ($1.99), and mac n cheese ($2.29). We enjoyed all of the items with the pulled pork and brisket being our favorites. I also especially liked how they buttered the bread on the chicken salad sandwich. Changed my mind on how chicken salad sandwiches should be made. Not only was the flavor of each item on point, but the prices are affordable. You will not be disappointed or hungry after visiting Redneck BBQ lab. We plan to visit again soon. Redneck has earned its place among my all time favorite places globally for great barbeque. The brisket is always good. The pulled pork sandwich is good but their sawses amp it up to amazing. On Tuesday, Thursday and Saturdays they have burnt ends - until they're gone. Last week they had as their off menu special this ridiculous burnt ends, sausage and melted provelone sandwich which is one of the best things I've ever eaten in this life. Prices are good. The staff are amazing. Very casual. Do prepare to wait as it's always a line but also always worth the wait. OMG!!! The best BBQ place I have had so far!! We thought we were I. The wrong place because this place is connected with a BP gas station. The burnt ends are amazing! It is so sad they only offer them on Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday. They should be available 24/7! We also tied the brisket, pulled pork sandwich, ribs and Mac and cheese. All were very good but those burnt ends were the star! I think their competition sauce was the best but you should try all three. Would skip mac and cheese next time. Good food, though service is awful. Over the last couple of months the attention to detail has fallen off the charts - specific to drive through. Two examples: Last week the girl at the window did not include sauce with my order, however, she managed to remember to ask me if I wanted to include a tip. We all have our priorities. Today I placed two separate orders through the drive-through. First order whole chicken, the second order whole chicken and 1/2 dozen corn bread. I also asked that the orders be placed in separate bags. I pulled up by the tree to await my order, which was delivered in one bag. I said "I asked that the orders be placed in separate bags," she said "we thought you wanted the chicken in separate boxes." AND there were only two containers of sauce for both orders. To management: if the person at the window is not mentally capable of performing that job, please place them in another position. I do not need someone to think for me. I placed two separate orders because I wanted one chicken on one box and the other chicken in another box and I knew from past drive through orders that they would not get it right,....and still they managed not to get the order correct. You can not sit on your laurels of past accomplishments and expect your business to thrive. I stand with local independent business,..but yours has to improve or it will fall to the way side. read more

The brisket was to die for. PHENOMENAL 10/10 Pulled pork. Excellent. Ribs could have had more flavor but cooked to perfection. The sauces....Texas Mess was our favorite. The NC vinegar was mind blowing on the pulled pork, and couldn't have been happier with all the leftovers we had. Also worthy of mention. Food Truck Time: The Redneck Taco Lab at Fainting Goat Brewing Company I really like the Redneck BBQ Lab so I was pumped to try their taco truck. The opening of the truck was delayed because they could not locate their tablet. We ordered queso & chips, 3 brisket tacos, a chipotle chicken taco and made one of them a meal by adding rice & black beans for an additional $4. The food was just okay, I liked the chicken taco and rice the best. I would not order the black beans again. The service was friendly though. I think they were a little flustered from the delayed start so I'll try it again soon. read more

The Redneck BBQ Lab has won me over!! This is definitely one of the best BBQ restaurants I have ever ate at! There is so much to love about this place! My favorite thing to eat here is a sandwich called "The Judy". It's smoked thick slices of juicy turkey breast, topped with a little BBQ sauce, provolone cheese, and thick cut bacon. I have also tried their burnt ends (they are the BEST, but you can only get them on select days), the jalapeño mac & cheese (I love the little spicy kick from the jalapeño), the collard greens (these greens are so good that when I have finished devouring them, I drink the juice left behind in the dish!), their cornbread melts in your mouth, and I have also tried the brisket and ribs, and both are amazing!! They have 2 kinds of BBQ sauces; sweet and vinegar based, and they are delicious mixed together. And you MUST order their banana pudding!! I thought my recipe was the best, but theirs is pretty damn good!! This restaurant is connected to a gas station, and seating is limited, but I usually get carryout from their drive-thru. Ordered 1/4 LB burnt ends, 1 sausage, 1/4 LB ribs, pint of mac and cheese, and small barbecued potatoes, roughly coming out to $41....man oh man was it worth it!! Not a good restaurant experience. Wife and my first visit. We entered restaurant and line to order was backed up-to entrance. Only one order taker. After approximately 10 minutes my wife and I, standing side by side each ordered a children's barbecue sandwich which came with chips. I asked if we could substitute a side for the chips and cashier said yes. I asked if there was a charge to substitute and she replied "No". I ordered Mac & cheese for my wife and potato salad for me. I paid what I thought was the right charge for 2 children's sandwiches approximately $15 (6.99 each) and waited for our food. When I picked up my order there was the Mac & cheese, potato salad and 1 barbecue sandwich. I told him I had ordered 2 sandwiches. He looked at my ticket said there was only one on ticket. I asked how could my bill be $15 if I only ordered 1 sandwich. He said you ordered 2 sides to replace the chips and there is an upcharge for replacing the chips. I told him we ordered together and why would I order two side replacements for one sandwich. He said he would prepare another sandwich and he charged me for another sandwich. He took my charge card and returned appropriately 5 minutes later with my second sandwich while I was still holding my first which was cold by the time I got to our table. The person that delivered our food and very short with me and was not interested in customer service, just making another sale so he could move the line. Very unprofessional and cashier was not trained well or again in a hurry to move us along to wait on the line behind us. read more

Based on their reviews, I drove quite a ways to try out their BBQ offerings. The brisket was good. When I ordered a half rack of their St. Louis Ribs, I was disappointed. The ribs were either day before leftovers or overcooked. The ribs were very dry and did not come off the bone like properly Smoke pork ribs. I've eaten my fair share of BBQ pork ribs all over our nation (West Coast, Texas, Memphis and places in-between) and so far this has been the most disappointed pork ribs in NC. The only thing that made the dry ribs palatable was having the BBQ sauces on the table to rehydrate the dry meat. Hopefully this was a one of issue with their St. Louis Ribs. Simply put: it's the best bbq I've eaten in North Carolina. I somehow envision hogs, the night before they're slaughtered, trying to sneak into the processor's office and adjust the shipping schedule to make sure Redneck BBQ is where they will end up. The meat is served perfectly cooked and in generous portions. The sides are awesome. And, considering the usual crowd and number of people picking up phoned in orders, the service is good.
