A little disappointed. Th sliced beef bbq was a little dry, great flavor but not as moist as Mission BBQ's moist brisket. Mac and cheese- yes it was baked but it reminded me of a velveeta type cheese consistency and flavor. There was the lack of cheddar sharpness to it imo. Very underwhelming. Cornbread- nice flavor, a little dry. Coleslaw- imo needed more Mayo to make it creamier. It had similar texture to my beloved kfc slaw just needed more creaminess. Banana pudding- the pudding was a banana flavored cooked pudding but it didn't seem from scratch . The vanilla wafers were soft but not mushy and still had structure to it. Bananas were in it. The meringue was not homemade- it was a cool whip type. Underwhelming. It was not like The Pitt bbq pudding in downtown Raleigh. Theirs is 100% homemade baked from scratch. Sauce- was good. My fiancés- smoked chicken was good. Service- cashier dude was off the hook attentive and kept the line moving. The prep servers were quick but made a small oversight in forgetting to give me the pudding. Had to go back and wait at the end of the line. The banana pudding comes In styrofoam cups under the counter so not sure why I had to stand there and wait 6more mins meanwhile my food was getting cold. The Redneck BBQ Lab is connected next to a BP station. It is a busy place. I really enjoyed my dine in visit on my way to the coast that I stopped again on the way back to get food to go. I wasn't as pleased with the to go food as they skimped on the sauce. There was even a sign with how much sauce you were to get based on the pounds you ordered. I didn't get half of what I should have but thankfully I had Dinosaurs BBQ Sauce sent to me for the holidays and that is better sauce anyway. The BBQ "sawse" at RedNeck is very watery. Out of the three sauces they had I liked the competition one the best with the yellow label. My first stop was on a rainy day and wasn't as busy. There is table and high top seating as well as seating in an additional room. The sauces were out for you to try three of them. I had pulled pork and beans on my first visit. It came with cornbread too that was ok. I wasn't a fan of it. I really liked the pulled pork on that visit. The beans were underwhelming too. Excellent bbq! You can order a plate w sides (8 options), or pick from their 8 sandwiches. We got the pulled pork sandwich with slaw, and they packed the most amount of bbq possible in it. The meat is lean and flavorful and slaw fresh and crispy. Each of their three specialty sauces are tasty. Sweet tea is a winner too. Good solid BBQ place! Husband and I stopped here on a recommendation from a friend and we were not disappointed! Tried the following meats: Brisket, pulled pork, ribs and sausage link. The only meat I would not get again would be the sausage, just a little greasy. The other meats were all juicy and tender. The ribs were fall off the bone tender! Sides we had the following ranked on the best to wouldn't order again: Baked Beans, Mac and cheese, cole slaw and potato salad. I would order the first 3 again as all were good, but the potato salad was just run of the mill to me! Wife and I love eating here. The food and service are always top notch. This week I got the pulled BBQ plate with potato salad and coleslaw. BBQ is always moist and is excellent with or without the Redneck BBQ Sauce. To me it's the best BBQ in eastern NC. Slaw was very tasty as was the potato salad. The BBQ is really good. It's convenient to 40, but like most great bbq it isn't the most convenient sit down type restaurant. Great for take out or solo dining. I met a coworker here for lunch on a Wednesday and it was busy. You walk in and order at one window and receive the food at the next. There's no table service and limited indoor seating. There is a drive through and plenty of picnic tables outside for nice days. They weren't out of anything yet, but judging by the crowd they may run out of popular cuts later. That's a sign it's good. I picked up the brisket meal with green beans and bbq potatoes (came with cornbread). Everything was awesome! I always say this, but I wish the brisket was a bit more fatty. It was still great. You ought to be able to shovel bbq out the door at a high rate, it's all cooked, it's just assembly. But here is the fatal flaw, and I haven't figured out why they do this. They pause between each order for multiple minutes while, well I don't know what they do. There is a whole crew doing assembly and drinks, and you pickup from a different place on the line. I didn't wait long enough to figure out all the details of their "system". If the line is short then go for it, but anything beyond a few people and it's going to be a wait, and there are plenty of good bbq places within a short drive, it's not so much better you have to eat here. read more

**Breakfast Review!** I'll start out by saying I'm a fan of Redneck BBQ Lab, especially this location. I just happened to stop for gas this morning and noticed they were open (9AM on a Monday). Was surprised as I didn't know they did breakfast. Went through the drive through and got a sausage egg and cheese biscuit and YALL. I've eaten biscuits all over the South and this was easily one of the best. It was so good I got on here right away to write this review. The sausage is their homemade link sausage which was a great surprise. Their sausage is one of their best meats on the whole menu IMO. It is wonderfully juicy and has great flavor as well as just a hint of spice. This biscuit was also LOADED with plenty of fresh cooked egg and multiple slices of cheese. The biscuit itself was huge, very buttery, and tender but stood up to all the toppings and did not fall apart. I might just get a plain biscuit to take home next time too as it was just that good. Overall the sausage egg and cheese biscuit was huge and plenty for two people to share for a quick breakfast. Service was super quick (less than three minutes at the drive through!) and friendly as always. I will go out of my way to stop here for breakfast again! I hope they keep going with breakfast. If they added some breakfast sides like home fries I'd go for those as well. read more

Decided to visit this spot on a whim as I've always heard good things and have seen their BBQ sauces in stores by me. The environment was fine (I wasn't expecting it to be connected to a gas station), the employees were very friendly, and the service was quick! My group's to-go order included: burnt ends, ribs, cornbread, and coleslaw. The ribs and cornbread were good, but I think that a BBQ lover would enjoy it more as I'm not the biggest pork fan in general. So I was off today and decided to take advantage of the beautiful day. This is an episode of TikTok Made Me Do It. I literally opened up TT and a sistah did a review of this spot. I was super curios and I saw it was only an hour and a half away from me. I think it's totally worth the ride. If you love good bbq definitely check this spot out. I will say this is one of the few times where I went to a bbq spot where the sides were just as good as the meats. I love that they had a variety and the portions were great. You're getting your money's worth. The TT did suggest that it does look a little sketchy as it is beside a BP gas station but don't be fooled, it is a restaurant and they also have a drive through. You can also order online and pick it up. The staff was very friendly and the place was clean. Now I will say I did see the questionable art in the dining area. I can tell they've gotten an uptick because of social media and on my visit, I didn't have to wait long at all. They have bbq sauce, spice rubs, as well as t shirts for purchase. It's nice to see that all kinds of people visit the establishment and how we're connected by good food and conversation. Definitely come hungry and try the variety of what they have. Very cool BBQ spot I came across for lunch today, it's not much to look at from the outside. The restaurant is attached to a gas station but the inside is very cool. Not tons of seating inside, but there is a side room and an outdoor picnic for seating. Food is excellent, I had the smoked chicken salad sandwich, chili dog and jalapeño mac and cheese. I just ate the beef ribs, which is only offered on Sundays. I have to say, those ribs are the best I've had. Super tender, very lean, and flavorful; to include their world famous barbecue sauce. The bake beans and coleslaw were also very good. Worth the trip. Great outdoor seating also! read more

I came here after seeing all of the good reviews and Yelp reviews after seeing their billboards on the highway for some time. I happened to be working in the area and decided to come by for lunch. I ordered from the drive thru since the line inside was long and didn't appear to be moving. I was in the line about 7 mins before making it to the speaker. I told the young lady that it was my first time and she did an excellent job of making suggestions. I ended up ordering the pulled pork sandwich with slaw and jalapeno mac and collard greens for the sides with an Arnold Palmer to drink and a piece of cornbread. I'll start with the good: The cornbread, albeit cold, was deliciously moist and sweet. The Arnold Palmer was perfect. The service was great and not too slow considering how many people were in line. The price point was good at right around $13. Unfortunately, that's where the compliments stop for me. The pulled pork was dry and unseasoned and they forgot the slaw. The roll was a classic Martin's potato roll which is always the way to go but the Pulled Pork really left much to be desired. I wanted to take the sandwich back to get some slaw but the long drive thru and inside lines made it difficult. The jalapeno mac wasn't fresh and the cheese tasted like it was from a can. I only managed a few bites. The greens were well cooked but lacked seasoning and were swimming in too much juice which made a mess. I managed a few bites of this as well. I was truly disappointed and only finished the cornbread, drink and sandwich (by drowning it in sauce). I prefer a Mom and Pop establishment over a chain any day but admittedly you would be much better off at Smithfield's over this place. read more

So to ensure i get a good idea of the food, I spend some money and order a trio of items for lunch. It included 1/4 lb of pulled port, 1/4 lb of brisket and a sausage of the day (some sort of black pepper). I also order the baked beans and jalapeno mac and cheese. So let me start with the sides. Mac and cheese, which came recommended, what very dry and little to no taste. Beans however, were pretty good. Now to the meat. Pulled pork: moist and not a whole lot of smoke taste. But I found it tasty with the sauce. I reckon it would be good as a sandwich with some slaw. Many of the customers were in fact ordering that. Brisket: Dry. Somewhat tender. it was just OK. Sausage: good flavor. Not sure why they sliced it the way they did. That makes the juices go away. It also came with Cornbread, which was crispy. Never heard or seen that before. As a certified BBQ Judge, I get to sample a lot of BBQ. From Vermont to Florida to Alabama to Wisconsin. BBQ restaurants are always interesting in various ways - where they are, what type building, what they are known for, and most importantly, how well do they present their BBQ. We have known of this location for many years. It just never fit in our schedule to stop. Until today. Normally we are going past there before they open or heading home well after they have closed. Today we lucked out. Located a scant 11 miles off I 95, we found ourselves pulling into a gas station. So the look out front is neither BBQ shack nor steel and mortar. When you enter though the ambiance brings you back to the BBQ shack of old. Trophies adorning the walls and not of bygone days. Recent accolades line the shelves. They offer an instruction manual to help the flow of guests. In what order to order. Pick you meat, pick your side if applicable and pick you drink and dessert again if wanted. The meat board shows the whole gambit of selections. From ribs, to chicken qtrs or halves, pork, brisket, sausage, turkey, oh my. The sides range from mac N cheese with jalapeno - Don't be scared off on this selection. if there is one thing I would say was lacking was the jalapeno as I found there to not be any heat or taste of such. I like spicy so I feel confident others who may not like heat would be more than fine with this as their side. But coleslaw, baked beans, potato salad, collards, Brunswick Stew..... the normal side fares found at BBQ joints. So, I had a concern. A valid concern. Well actually two. I've been to enough BBQ places to know, seldom can a place be great at everything. Maybe pork is great but brisket lacks flavor, or chicken is great but ribs are dry. I have only found a few places that can do it all very well. The second concern was timing. This was a late stop on the way home from a BBQ contest. Meaning we would be getting there maybe an hour before they closed. Anyone with BBQ knowledge knows that carry over BBQ is not as good as fresh. Meaning would we be getting the remnants being held over from lunch? I ordered brisket, turkey and a link of sausage. My wife got pulled pork. My side was the mac n cheese with the missing jalapeno, and she had the baked beans. Both came with a slice of corn bread. Brisket was sliced thin and had a nice pepper flavor from the crust on top and the limited fat strip was rendered perfectly to melt in your mouth. While it did not have the competition preferred ability for a pull test, there was nothing wrong with this from a taste and tenderness side. The turkey was moist and had good flavor to it. The sausage was perfect. So many times I get this and the greasiness overwhelms the taste buds. Not so with this. Nice bite, crisp, and no greasy aftertaste. Wife's BBQ, was not pulled in chucks as we normally would get. But it had some bark with it which many places toss and was very good. Her baked beans were also very good. In fact I ate half of hers while she ate my mac N cheese - she's not a fan of spice. So that worked out good for us. The overall was WOW. They CAN pull off several types of BBQ and not miss a beat with any of them. The fact that it was all was still this wonderful late in the day was also not missed by us. We also split a banana pudding. Another staple at many a BBQ place. Nothing wrong with it, Id say your average banana pudding. Id like to try their chocolate cake but they were sold out. Or, just forgo either and make the rest of the ride home and waistline of pants fit and feel a tad better. On our ride home we did say, this does need to become a more often visited stop heading south and or back north when we can. The last thing I will say - the work of the people behind the counter. We sat at the bar counter where we could watch the staff through the glass assemble meals. I was amazed at the work ethic these kids showed. I have zero idea how old any of them are. They all looked to be teenagers or early 20s at best. I've been to enough restaurants in our travels and so often the staff looks like they'd rather be anywhere than where they are. Not so here. From the girl who took our order with a smile and an thanks for coming to the young men assembling eat in and take out orders without a frown or a sign of miscontent. All with a smooth and efficient handling of the orders from the sides station to the meat station to the handing of the tray, all in what seemed seconds.
