The food was excellent, a unique take on exceptional fresh local ingredients; with a good variety of snacks, small plates and mains. Although the flavor profile on the salmon with citrus and saffron was not to my taste it was expertly prepared. All that said we received some of the most neglectful service I have ever had from a very nice server, who for no obvious reason left us alone for most of the meal. It got busier as our time stretched on, but it wasn't slammed and there was plenty of staff. We ordered plenty of food including two bottles of wine. We had to completely finish all of our appetizers before being asked about mains and we sat with empty glasses for ~20 minutes (possibly more) before we flagged someone down to get the second bottle; a bottle we left half drunk because it stretched our evening so long. I might give this place another try but honestly it was one of the most drawn out anticlimactic $400+ birthday celebrations (without desert) I have ever had. Farm to table done beautifully. The Redwood has cozy wine bar vibes with superb, fresh food where you can spend hours nibbling and sipping. It's inviting vs the stuffy atmosphere some places have. BABAGANOUSH PITA we got it for the kiddo expecting it to be run of the mill stuff you get. But the babaganoush had the extreme rich flavors of smoked eggplant and felt like almost half an eggplant went in there. Not diluted with tahini, garlic, just pure flavors of eggplant with tanginess of sumac. LITTLE GEM SALAD WITH RAINBOW TROUT was hearty, leafy and very refreshing. The pickled celery was the surprise. HAMACHI CRUDO - beautifully assembled with thoughtfulness, light, refreshing. A bunch of flavor bombs in there so each bite is an adventure. Basil making it refreshing, earthy crunch from hazelnut, sharpness from green onion, sweet tart kiwis. I think a bit of citrus would make this a superstar. Mandolin shaved limes perhaps? GRILLED MAITAKE MUSHROOMS - ok I think this was the chefs most technically impressive dish, with an exercise in playing with bitter profiles and turning it into a master piece. Grilled maitake gets the char from the grill is the first flavor layer, it's woken up by the wild thyme from the zatar. Next the Japanese turnips bring the second dimension with earthy beautiful bitter notes on a bed of a creamy tahini based sauce. It's finished with fresh parsley to bring a fresh element to it. Great stuff. Could raddichio be added to make this more challenging? I saw those crunchy POTATOES and I got them even after eating the meal lol. Do yourself a favor and just get them - they're hot, crunchy and perfect to pair with the vegetables. Finally we got their chocolate mousse with bruleéd bananas sorry couldn't take a picture before it was all gone. Great way to wrap. The staff were all super friendly and helped with picking things from the menu! I got the mystery glass of wine and they had made a fun game out of it. The Beaujolais was great too. Overall when you're surrounded by these amazing farms, vineyards and ocean - no better way than to bring them together - kudos to the creators of the Redwood for making this place with intentionality. It's such a fun place to relax with wine and lots of interesting snacks! Everything we ordered was 5 out of 5. The tinned fish was interesting. It came with a spread and a lemon squeeze really highlighted the flavor of the tinned fish. Yellowfish crudo with kiwi is refreshing. We didn't think of drinking wine and this dish made us ordered a bottle. By the way, they have Happy Hour from 3-6 pm everyday. On Monday, they have bottle special which they charge retail price on the wine with $5 corkage fee. It would save 30% to 40%! I definitely want to come back when I'm in town! read more

There's a dining room with a wine store section at the front and the other half is a bar with some more tables. It was quiet got a 6 pm Saturday seat but picked up quickly. Service was personable, attentive and loved that they were so accommodating. I couldn't decide on a Primativo red or Pinot Gris white, so I got half pours of each! Now for food. The Yellowtail Crudo was awesome. Fresh, citrusy, coconut milk with a little spice touch. The fried potatoes were da bomb. Watch out cause they're filling. Lastly. Rounding out wax the Black Cod Tajine. Good but I wanted the freshness of crudo instead of the tomato based sauce with olives over accompanying basmati rice. Finishing off the meal was a Chocolate Crémeux that was deliciously rich with brûlée bananas and whipped cream. Had a wonderful little crunch and blended so wonderfully with the bananas and cream in one bite. The table beside was enjoying a flight of wines plus their canned fish with bread. I went with a group and tried a few different items. The lamb shanks really stood out to me. Incredibly tender and deep/rich flavor left me wanting more. The shanks were provided by Sonoma county meat company. Harvested from blakeman farms in southern Mendocino. I'm always interested in knowing where the components of a dish come from. My wife is vegetarian and they had some nice choices. We started with a dish of Fried Chickpeas. Then the Route 1 Sourdough Bread and Butter was tasty. Checked this place out after searching Yelp and Google for a winery/wine bar restaurant that was still open late-ish, on a Monday evening. At first, we drove right past it but finally spotted it when on foot. The ambiance inside was giving me deja vu of an Asian fusion brewery spot in Tahoe interestingly... (Tahoe National Brewing). Service was very friendly and the menu was a mix of familiar and unique. We had recently seen a clip about "tinned fish" so it was fun to spot it in the sidebar and give it a try. It was great! I'd go back just for that. It's nice they pair it with chips so you're paced to eat it in little bites. The gem salad was delicious (especially with our added side topping of sardines ). The fried potatoes were good but very rich for only two of us splitting the whole portion. The natural wine was yummy - kind of felt like what cask is to beer. One of us was not a big fan of the type of mushroom in the vegetarian dinner plate, but the other loved it; so - a mixed bag! I can't tell how I felt about the cardamom panna cotta... but I don't regret trying it? Made it in for our visit tonight - and now can't believe it's taken us over a year to get in here. The space is airy, light and tells you exactly what it is: an upscale neighborhood wine bar casual enough for happy hour and sophisticated enough for a date night or dinner with friends. The Redwood is a combination Wine Bar -Restaurant and it is excellent at both. Walked in, we had a reservation and were seated immediately. Nice vibe to the restaurant. Good menu, nice amount of choices. We were told by our server the food comes "family style" with share plates which we enjoy. We ordered glasses of Jupiter Rosato, a super juicy and flavorful wine which was great. We ordered the Delicata squash appetizer which came with cured olives, pepitas, Stracciatella, brown butter vinaigrette. wonderful starter! Entrees wer coriander roasted pork collar with leeks, ridicchio, quince, celery and whole grain mustard. Also had black cod steamed in a fig leaf with cherry tomatoes, coconut milk, eggplant and preserved lemon. Both were excellent! Service was friendly and laid back. There is also a couple of racks of wines by the bottle that are on the menu and also for sale. We bought a bottle of French Cabernet Franc. Cute little place that was very charming and good for wine and dessert. We didn't stay long but me and 2 girlfriends had some wine, bread and dessert. The Meyer Lemon Yogurt cake was amazing, it was very dense and it was almost like an olive oil cake. The bread and butter was also great. The butter was really good, I don't know what kind of butter it was but we loved it and ate most of it. The mousse didn't have a strong liver smell/taste; which I preferred. **Citrus and Pink Celery salad: $15, has yogurt, hazelnuts, Aleppo, pomegranate vinaigrette. **Scallop Crudo: $16; comes with fennel, kumquat, olive and pink peppercorn. This was one of my favorites; fresh, light and a wonderful starter! **Route 1 Pita and Dip: $22 (for all three); Chickpea Hummus w/ Za'atar, Baba Ghanoush w/ Sumac and Labneh w/ herbs and Baharat. **Arroz Negro: $25; sautéed squid, pimentons and lemon. Love this dish as well; the squid was cooked perfectly and loved the rice that it comes with. Such a simple yet complex flavored dish! **Tinned fish; Octopus in butter: $22; comes with potato chips and pickles. The Redwood Wine just opened up their brick & mortar and it is literally everything downtown Sebastopol has been lacking when it comes to watering holes. The ambiance is just perfect, it's not super fancy or too casual, not too loud so you can have a conversation easily. It was awesome to see how diverse the room was too - folks of all ages and types were enjoying themselves. You can walk up & sit at the bar or have a seat at a table. The flexibility this space offers is really refreshing. We went with a group of 6 and had the loveliest seat in the window! I loved that I could see the action happening in the kitchen/bar but it felt more private than sitting at the bar. Our server was so sweet and attentive to our needs. We all ordered wine by the glass off of their extensive menu. The wines they offer rotate pretty often (about every 2 weeks) so there's always something new to look forward to trying. They have a cute retail area with lots of bottles and other goodies to take home too. We ordered a bunch of different small and large plates, they have a lot of options for different dietary needs which I appreciate as a vegetarian surrounded by omnivores. We shared the cheese plate, pita + all the dips, fried potatoes, roasted carrots and squid. The pita & dips were my favorite, the pita was served warm and really the best I have ever had alongside the dips. For dessert we had the chocolate mousse which has a fancier name than I can remember and is not to be skipped! I was blown away by the texture and flavors. They let us split our check 3 ways which was great (some places don't like to do that) and I was actually really surprised at how reasonable our bill was for the amount of food and glasses of wine that were drank! We had a great dinner for two. The food was really delicious -- it's a classy but unpretentious environment, and we were happy with the vegetarian options. We're not wine experts, and I'm often hesitant to deal with fancy wine people, but the waiter recommended a glass of wine for me and a local IPA for my partner, and we liked both a lot.
