Disappointing. I hope that we found it on an off night, but in all honesty it is far enough away that we most likely won't go back to give them another chance. Hostess asked us to wait while she checked to see if a table was ready when we can plainly see at least 3-4 clear tables. After a few minutes we were seated, and eventually a very nice waitress came to take our orders. This was an odd experience all around. Our appetizer, chicken tenders was quite good, though they gave us a tiny amount of BBQ sauce that tasted suspiciously like sweet baby ray's from the supermarket. I got steak tips, which comes with two sides and a salad. If you're going to offer a salad with an entree, at least give a guy time to actually eat it before bringing the main plate. I've had worse steak, and this was solidly average. Inexplicably, they brought another table knife instead of a steak knife with the steak tips. Had the waitress asked, the "grilled asparagus" sure looked steamed or boiled, but room temperature veggies are at least palatable, which I can't say for the room temperature fries. Interestingly, the otherwise nice waitress took no interest in the fact that the huge stack of cold fries remained when she cleared our plates. They have put in quite an effort to create a nice aesthetic, but skimped on sound proofing so even at half capacity, it is loud. I had to keep asking my wife to keep repeating herself. After another half the tables had cleared, I noticed they are actually playing music! So it isn't enough that it is an uncomfortably loud space to begin with. read more

We were just riding our motorcycles and asked where there was a good BBQ place. The Refinery was recommended. We eat at a lot of BBQ places. This has to be the best, tasty, large portions and priced reasonably. The potato salad and fresh fried mushrooms were out of this world. Owners and chef came out to check on and talk to us making us feel at home. Because of Covid we sat outside under a large tent but it was a great day definitely a return trip even if is a two hour ride. read more

We are so disappointed in this new restaurant! We went for the first time last night. We knew it would be loud, but we were willing to give it a try because we had heard great reviews about the food. I got the Lemon Chicken. I only ate less than half of it because it was dry and overcooked. My partner has the Chicken Caprese sandwich. He said the sandwich was very good but his French Fries were mushy and gross. He did not eat them. Our server was sweet, but she never asked why we didn't eat so much of our food. Given the exorbitant noise level and the bad first impression, we will not be going back. I really wanted to write a rave review today, but sadly cannot. read more

We thought this was the typical dive BBQ joint from the outside, but it's not. Beautiful inside. The food is outstanding, LARGE portions and great staff. Last visit I had the Briskit sandwich, everything about it was perfect. Wife had the ribs, fall off the bone, nice smoke flavor and the sauces are excellent. Wife loves the fried mushroom appetizer. We were very hungry after a long trip, so maybe that's why some of us loved the food, and a couple said the BBQ is better in Texas, where we live. Some of us liked the pulled pork sandwich, and others liked the chili and the brisket sandwich. The kids menu is good, the pulled pork for kids was great, and it comes with a side, milk and ice cream. Not bad for the price. However, the rest of the menu has high prices for what it is. Those were absolutely the best fried mushrooms I've ever had in my life, hands down. I absolutely would recommend and go back. I had the grilled chicken caprese with a side salad and Asian dressing and my significant other had a brisket sandwich with fries, and both meals were absolutely on par and perfect. read more

The Refinery has the best ribs. Which is why I an so disappointed tonight. Have been eating at the refinery since it opened. Food has always been great. Take out during covid was the best. When they reopened indoor dining it was better than when they opened. (Quieter and softer lighting). Tonight was different. Am hoping it was just a random error. Ribs could have used a lot more time in the smoker. Definitely less smoky and way tougher than normal. Noticed the difference as soon as I saw them. The waitress was great! That's where the greatness ended. Worst food I've ever had. The pastrami was tough as shoe leather. One of our guest was served a steak with uncooked asparagus. A much needed dining option for our region of the state. The BBQ is as good as you can find anywhere in the rest of the country, and I have had great bbq everywhere in and out of the USA. What I really appreciate is the great value provided in terms of pricing. So often side dishes can be disappointing in BBQ places, thanks to the vast knowledge and skill of One of the co-owners, the Refinery has sides which deserve merit on their own. In addition to bbq, there are other menu options which include excellent salads, grilled fish and steak. They have it all! Great service, extremely clean, roomy. Yeah it is a little noisy and it is drafty by the front entrance. The draft problem is being addressed with the addition of a new entryway. Horrible- Started with chili -Hormel in a can is better-basically beans in tomato soup. Then grilled bbq shrimp were steamed with a little yellow syrup on them Salads are a hand full of greens with one tiny grape tomato sliced in half- IT's TOMATO SEASON!! We ordered quite a few things here- 2 salads that were mostly leaves and not much of anything else, a bowl of chili which tasted like it came out of a can, and sweet potato waffle fries which were barely above room temperature but the best of the things we tried. Had a great meal, the food was delicious. The place was packed. It took a little while to get our food but it was faster than I expected since it is a new restaurant at full capacity. It was a bit noisy but not too bad. We arrived 15 minutes after they opened and they were already almost full, the wait was fairly short but it looked a lot lot longer when we left. read more

Ate there Saturday night (9/28). Food (Barbecue Brisket Plate and Steak Tips) was very good. Portions were generous and priced right. We're not "generous-portions-of-food finishers", so we brought some home. Service was very good. Greeting at the entrance was cordial and welcoming. We were told that the wait time for 2 was "just a few minutes", and it was. Waitresses were pleasant. We were seated in the dining area that has the bar area. The dining area is just a large open space, with little ambience. It has tables and chairs and very high ceilings and little or nothing to absorb sound. The noise was cacophonous. There is another dining area on the other side of the building. That may be less noisy. Will we go back? Sure. read more

Ok for local food. I've been twice and not impressed yet. Had a coffee rubbed steak which tasted like frozen coffee grinds from my freezer. Salads are bland and overall presentation lacking. Bar staff are inattentive and someone from the kitchen passed by and noticed we were sitting with our meals, but without silverware. The restaurant has a great vibe and is very clean. The cluster in front of the bakery case and bathroom entrance needs improvement as you have to tell people to move to get anywhere. read more

Superb. This is the best dinner I have had in the New London/Sunapee area. We started with a Caesar salad which had crispy fresh lettuce and tasty homemade croutons. I had a pulled pork sandwich which was deliciously sweet and tangy and tender. My husband had brisket which practically melted in our mouths. We have had the pleasure of eating at the refinery half a dozen times in the past few years and have never been disappointed. The creative sandwiches and salads are the perfect balance and blending of flavors, and the staff is friendly, professional and very knowledgeable about the menu and bar offerings. Being creatures of habit my husband and I usually order the same dish, for me it's the Asian beef salad and for him it's the hot brisket sandwich. I highly recommend both! This last visit we decided to try something new (to us). My husband had the hot pulled pork sandwich, which may now become his go-to. I asked if they would be able to make me a sandwich that wasn't on the menu. Ashlee, our waitress (who was fantastic) didn't hesitate to say yes. The sandwich was grilled brisket with thousand island, coleslaw and Swiss on marbled rye, and it was DELICIOUS! Do yourself a favor and give The Refinery a go! read more
