Refuge is my wife and I's go-to spot in Boise. We usually come every Friday for the prime rib, which we split and add an extra salad perfect amount of food. The kitchen will actually split the meal for you, which makes sharing the prime rib even better and super easy. Fridays do get busy, so I'd recommend coming a little early or later in the evening if you want to avoid the rush. What really makes Refuge special, though, is the staff. Everyone is incredibly kind, welcoming, and fun. We've honestly never had a bad experience here, and it's a place we always look forward to coming back to as often as we can. Bonus points for parking too Refuge sits in a massive parking lot, so you'll never struggle to find a spot. We are here for a convention and we went to all the " usual" restaurants, but this place was the best and the best value for our buck too. Great food, good atmosphere, and excellent service. The Refuge has been our home away from home since the Downtown Old Chicago closed back in 2020. We live in Southeast Boise and are there two, sometimes three days a week. It's our go to wind down on Fridays after work and NFL football on Sunday. Food is fantastic and comes out fast even when they're slammed. They do breakfast specials on Sunday. The pancakes are always fantastic when they have them. Prawns and chowder are my go to dinner, but the specials are always really good, too. I've never had a bad meal here. The staff is incredibly friendly, hardworking and has basically become family. They know our drinks when we walk in and what team we're coming to watch. Date day took us to the Refuge. Very nice place. The food is better than good, the service was great and the atmosphere very casual. We had a bloody mary and a glass of pinot grigio. Lunch was finger steaks and tots for me, finger steaks and fries for partner. She had a salad and I had a cup of clam chowder. The chowder was thick with lots of clams. The salad looked great. No parking hassles like in Downtown Boise. Very comfortable seating with large separations between tables, not crammed like Downtown. This place rocks with fast friendly service and great food. The best thing about The Refuge are the people who work there. Incredibly friendly and hard working. They are a well oiled machine. We ordered typical bar food so can't opine on other menu items. My husband and I actually ended up eating here almost everyday five days in a row! It was next door to our hotel. We were there for my father in laws funeral... Each day we walked over for either lunch or dinner: the service was amazing (kind, perfect, on point), the food was WOW yummy, and the bartending was needed and sheer perfection! Staying in a hotel next store and exhausted from a family road trip, so we decided to get food to go. It was pretty busy, I was greeted right away and I said I was placing an order to go, and said I didn't need a menú as I knew what I wanted. A server standing at the register called out over the noise of the crowd, asking me what I wanted. It wasn't bad but didn't feel super professional as I felt like I was screaming over the crowd and had to repeat myself a few times. Food was ready pretty quickly and was tasty and plentiful. Just a walk across the parking lot from the Marriott made this spot super convenient, and they are open late (kitchen closes at 10pm). The bartender was super sociable and the food was A-MAZE-ING. We were finishing a 2 week road trip along the Oregon Coast and the food here beat every place we ate on the trip; a great way to end the journey. Solid place like SOLID! I am pretty sure I judged this book by its cover. I have always had a beer on the patio in the summer but I have never visited inside ever. Great, great bar. There is character to this place. High, low and bar seating. TV's for games and booze and food when you are hungry. The menu has a wide range of selection from finger foods to burgers and more. Drinks are stiff. Yes please. The things I actually like the most about this place is you can hear your table mates talking. While the place was BUSTLING, you could still have a conversation. If I could give it zero stars, I would. Sat at the bar on a busy Friday night. Ryan, the bartender, was extremely busy....no bigs. We sat for 10 minutes before being served, again, no bigs. Finally got drinks. Then the bartender disappeared for 10 minutes. So we asked another server if they could take our order. Ryan came back and flipped out, starting cussing at us. I asked him what his last name was, he said "my name is fuck you." He screamed at us that we could only order from him, and if we didn't like it we could leave. So we did. I have worked in F&B since the 90's, have never been treated like that. PS: I was wearing a mask because of a recent covid positive test, he also berated me for that. They weren't very busy - but our waitress was busting around like a chicken with her head cut off. Even spilled a beer at our table. The food is nothing special. Saturday night and every place had a wait. Staying at the hotel right next door. Found an empty table in the back. Score! Our server was amazing considering we were a large party. While waiting for our food, there was a little drama going on with 2 intoxicated men and a woman they were arguing over. They made up. Our clam chowder comes first. Very yummy. Our entrees comes next. My brisket dip was great. My husband's Reuben was also good but the onion rings were like burger king's. The sirloin steak was suppose to be medium rare but came out medium well. Our server offered to take it back but we were starving so he just asked for blue cheese and hollandaise. The pork chops were okay but when I snuck a sweet potato fry, it was cold in the middle like it wasn't cooked enough from a frozen state. My daughter's prawns were okay according to her. Again, service rocked and our sandwiches were great. We even enjoyed the pool table. Oh yeah, the drama continued with the men arguing, then making up and wanting to buy the other another drink. NO!! Then the drama began again with the women they were fighting over who just looked away while they were arguing in front of her. Hey, tell your man to chill or LEAVE!
