Since it also happened to be his birthday, we made a plan to come back after our dinner reservation at another restaurant. We stuck to that plan at around 8 PM, before they're closing at 9 PM. We walked in to a charming, lovely and cozy atmosphere. It had just rained so the ambience was perfect. We sat down right away and was greeted by Justin, who was outstanding as our server. My husband ordered the chocolate mousse, and I took a chance on the Pavlova, which I had seen many times before on the great British bake off. I had always wanted to try it. We also ordered decaf French press, coffee, and it was also delicious. The desserts both came with Chantilly cream made in house and it was impeccable. We. We both loved our desserts. The Pavlova was a light meringue with lemon curd inside garnished with fresh berries. I was worried that it would be sweet too sweet, but it was not. The chocolate mousse was thick and chocolatey and the ratio of Chantilly cream was perfect. Now that we've come here for breakfast and dessert, we must come back for dinner. Again, Justin, our server was just lovely and personable and made the evening even more memorable.

The rotating cocktail menu featured a "Gin on the Barb." Local gin mixed with a rhubarb liqueur and mint was a tasty yet dangerous beverage for an 83 degree day. If you have a chance to try the Oeufs Mimosa (deviled eggs) do not miss the opportunity though the charcuterie is an experience as well. For dinner I suggest trying the beef bourguignon. It will change your life. It's not necessarily simple but it done very very well.

The bar is owned and locally operated by Ron Hopwood. Ron makes and bottles his own wines and bourbons. Most of the grapes are locally grown. I have passed by his bar for years because I was skeptical of Midwest wines until I had a bottle of his chardonnay at the local pizzeria. The chardonnay was so smooth and delicious, that I walked down the street to his tasting room. The cozy upscale bar is FILLED with Hopwood wines and bourbons. He offers tastings or you can buy a bottle or glass. and sit at one of his lovely tables and sip. He even sells charcuterie boards and dipping breads to pair with your wine. Awards for the wines cover a wall. Ron is most proud of winning the 2019 American Wine Societies award for best cabernet sauvignon. The wines are inexpensive and they offer special pricing to Club members. To be a member, one needs to commit to buying 2 bottles/month or 2 cases/year. It's such a great deal that I am going back over this week to join. Ron has special events for Club members! Hopwood is a great place to sneak away on a date or with your bff. It is cozy and delicious.

Unfortunately, I did learn that Hopwood Cellars is closing its doors for good in June, so it was a good thing I came back to visit. Hopwood Cellars is one of the best wineries in Indiana that I have been to since living in Indianapolis. The owner is a great guy and very friendly and helpful to the customers. His staff is very knowledgeable on the wines, and the ambiance is beautiful. The Cabernet Sauvignon is my personal favorite wine. They also have a great Chardonnay as well. The winery does sell flights of wine so you can sample a few wines. The wine milkshakes are supposedly out of this world, so I would stop by before the end of June 2025 to try one, or else you will miss out on the opportunity. The bar area goes around the facility and is very nice. They have a wine sample card you can purchase to try a bunch of wines as well. The staff definitely knows what they are doing, and they are very professional on presenting the wines. I'm sad that Hopwood Cellars is closing this year because it was a good winery and one of my favorites in Indiana. It was hopping on a Friday night. I had been wanting to come here for a long time.. Everyone I know says this place is really good. This is a 3.5 star review. The bruschetta was 4 pieces and soggy. It was also 15 dollars. They don't serve table bread for free so I ordered some for $4 and it was about 5 1/2 slices of the same bread they used for the bruschetta. It was served with a bowl of oil with balsamic vinegar. I also asked for my pasta to be saucy and the waitress looked at me and she said, do you mean you want extra sauce? So for $2 extra I feel I got a normal amount of sauce so I'm not sure what a regular amount looks like. Unfortunately the pasta was pre-denté. Everyone else's dishes were steaming hot and the pasta was visibly able to be twirled around a fork. Mine was warm and I had to cut it with a spoon and fork just to get it separated for many bites, which were very chewy, almost hard. The ragù was fine. The atmosphere was nice for dinner. I read some other reviews and they are definitely mixed. One of my friends who had been before warned me after I was excited to initially try the cheese wheel pasta, to be careful. She said hers was wet and vodka flavored, so I didn't get it. Similar reviews said the same. I will say the calamari was some of the best I've had lately. Not chewy at all and a lovely light batter, served with tomato sauce. I did find it odd that the sauce was cold. Everyone else seemed to really enjoy their meals so this gets the 3.5 stars.
