I sort of understand why jazz intimidates and/or infuriates people. Some jazz is really weird. But the Baked Potato--a jazz club--is really fun. And welcoming. And not weird at all. I mean, what is more fun than a highly talented band jamming a couple feet away from you? And what is more normal (and delicious) than being served a giant baked potato stuffed with your favorite toppings? You don't have to eat here but you should. Just about any variety of toppings tastes great on a baked potato and they offer a zillion options. On the other hand, you do have to drink, whether it is alcohol or something else. There is a two drink minimum (overpriced water and soda count toward the minimum). The servers here are heroic . I have never seen a crew of servers work harder anywhere. Seating kind of sucks. It is cramped. It is not great. You have been warned. We saw Don Randi and Quest and they were superb and not weird at all. If you are not familiar with Randi, you should Google him and then go see him as soon as possible. He is an excellent musician and is also legendary, seriously. He is also 88 years old. Metered parking is your choice here and, by a sheer miracle, we found a spot nearby. Give yourself time to find parking. Also: you have the choice of saving a couple bucks and sitting outside on the patio while watching the concert on a television. Now, exactly why would you do that when you could watch the real thing live in front of you? I am sure there are some bands which play strange music here. But live music, especially live music steps in front of you, is simply a great thing. And baked potatoes with wonderful toppings are also pretty great things. Give this place a chance. It is all ages, by the way, although you would not want to bring a young kid here. Better make a reservation, too.

Came for the late show on Sunday at this old jazz club and eatery in Studio City. Dennis Jones and his band of musicians created awesome sounds for the audience on the electric guitar, bass, drums, and vocals, with an extensive set list of blues rock tunes, the volume extra loud blasting through the speakers at the venue. The space was a tad cramped, but there was a good amount of tables and seating on all three sides of the stage, and music decor and posters plastered on the walls. No photos allowed during the performance. Doors didn't open till 20 minutes AFTER showtime... yes, they left patrons waiting outside way past the ticketed time. At least they got all our food orders in right away before closing the kitchen. Our dishes were slightly disappointing. They scraped so much of the potato out of the skin in order to stuff it with toppings, and there wasn't enough potato left to warrant calling it an actual "baked potato". That was unfortunate, making it severely overpriced if you're looking for a good baked potato. I wasn't interested in eating mainly a mountain of bacon, broccoli, and melted cheese, even if it was flavorful. I'd much prefer a little more balance with the ingredients... more potato please. Plus the teriyaki chicken potato was extra salty. The staff was nice and the live music performance was excellent, so I still gave 2 stars despite the issues with the food and delayed event entry.

So I decided to bring my mom to The Baked Potato as one of her birthday presents so she could experience a live performance. The show itself was great.. the environment is super quaint and cozy. There's definitely not a lot of room though. As far as seating goes, you obviously have to buy tickets to get in, but even after that, they seat everyone as close as possible to fit more people in. I think if they sold a few less tickets, it would be much more comfortable. But for the most part, the vibe is great. As long as you're not buying patio seating, you're going to be able to see and really experience the show up close. That said, our server was a sweetheart. The food itself isn't necessarily the best, but honestly, you're not really there for the food. Most of the menu is based around baked potatoes with various toppings. They did have a good selection of alcoholic beverages. They did mess up my order initially, but like I said, my server was great and brought me the correct one eventually. The performance was awesome, but if you're seated in a less-than-ideal spot, the sound can be either too loud (if you're right next to the speakers) or too low (if you're outside on the patio, where you technically can't even see the show live). Other than that, the environment was dimly lit, which I really enjoyed. And the artists they book are always a pleasure to see live. Overall, it's a good experience and definitely a staple spot to check out if you're ever in L.A. Oh, and as far as the tickets and pricing go.. that all depends on who's performing and whether you want to see the 8 p.m. show, the 10 p.m. one, or if you're interested in patio seating. Tickets typically start around $30 and go up from there depending on the artist and (I assume) how early you book. They do sell out quickly, so if you see someone you like, definitely secure your seat.

Ah! I've been wanting to hit a jazz spot for a long time and this experience is probably one that will forever be one of the best memories for me! I bought two tickets for Benny Rietveld and his Orchestra which costed $68.50 after tax. There are no seating arrangements, it's first come first served and there were two slots - an 8 PM and a 10 PM showing. We opted for the 8 PM as we didn't want to stay out too late in Studio City. We arrived around 6:30 PM and had plenty of time to relax, grab our drinks and eat before the band started at 8:30 PM. It's a two drink minimum per person - Non alcoholic drinks are included in the minimum. If you don't order two drinks they charge for bottled water and give it to you with your check. Parking is tricky - There's parking on Ventura but call the venue to see if there are other spots you could park at. This is a tiny venue - The seats are really small, and everyone in front of the stage is cramped into a tiny space with a small table (just big enough to hold two plates of food and two drinks). Be careful of sitting all the way back as someone's drink is probably right behind you. There is a bar with seats available and every seat has a view of the band. Of course, if you have neck issues, try to sit right in front of the stage or to the left of it. Some people bring earplugs. I noticed some of the staff wearing them, too. Not a bad idea but I didn't have any. Max volume! Their menu has nothing but baked potato items - Things like Marinated Steak Potato, Hot Dog and Sauerkraut, Teriyaki Chicken Potato, and Savanna's Mondo Veggie Potato. All kinds of things I could never dream about can be put on a potato! Prices range from about $18 - $26. I got their Marinated Steak with Pizzaiola Potato ($26.50) and my husband got their Chicken Parmesan Potato ($25.50). Both were full of cheese (which is an extra cost), meat, and perfectly baked potato - And the potato was huge! Each came with a side salad. It was surprising very good, not too salty, a bit pricy, but I get it. The drinks were a couple of bucks each and we got coffees and iced teas. Service is spot on and then they kind of leave you alone while the band plays, coming by during certain intervals to check on you and towards the end to give you your check. Great experience! Great music! Highly recommend!

I try to visit The Baked Potato and bring newcomers as often as possible, as to me, its a staple location in the greater LA/Hollywood experience. The classic music bar vibe is cozy and almost historic, without feeling dated or old, the baked potatoes are imposingly large and stuffed to the brim, and the bartenders (shout out to Yorlin, who was awesome) balance great service with the show. The musicians and the groups that perform here are always fantastic and if you're looking for a consistently high quality live jazz/blues show, look no further than here! Its a great, psuedo-intimate venue for live jazz enthusiasts and beginners alike.

I was so excited to finally try The Baked Potato. I had heard of the legendary jazz club with a fully potato themed menu and was thrilled. But what an absolute scam of a place!! I came recently and was able to score seats on the patio. It wasn't until after we paid the $20 per person fee and were escorted to the back that we realized our tickets took us to a space 2 rooms away from the musicians. There are 2 TVs where you view a livestream of the main room. Never once do you hear any live music. Also.... in terms of a patio? There's hardly any fresh air. It's just an unventilated shack attached to the back of the building in the parking lot. To make the experience better, on top of the cover to get in, they add a 2 drink minimum per person. Cocktails are an overpriced and watery $16. We would've ordered a second round, but we never saw our waitress again before the show ended (there were only 2 other full tables on the patio). Don't worry, they'll give you a $6.50 water bottle for the ride home. The baked potatoes are similarly overpriced and flavorless. Come here if you want to spend a minimum of $75 per person on cover and drinks alone.

I REALLY want to gate-keep this place but this 3.9 rating isn't doing this place justice!! I love the Baked Potato. It's such a unique eclectic spot with really cool live music and big a** potatoes that are quite good!! Don't try to pop in spontaneously on a weekend especially--tickets get sold out closer to a week before, and they really pack up the place so just be prepared for minimal elbow room. Our go-to potatoes are the Philly cheese steak and the chicken parmesan. I switched it up this weekend with the buffalo chicken and that was v good too! P.S. the beer is ice cold which was such a nice plus!

A must be place to Visit, great Jazz and food. The place reaks of great memories! Highly recommend this place!

Great music! Great Baked Potatoes! Anyone complaining about the volume has clearly never been to a rock concert. Up close and personal with amazing Jazz Musicians. Our server was delightful. I recommend you take in a show and be happy that this caliber of musicians would bother to perform for such a small amount of compensation. They are clearly performing for the love of music.

Before the show, a view from the bar. No photos or recording are allowed during performance.

Ask the Community - The Baked Potato

    Are tickets required every night?

The calendar shows the evening we are going as having two "sets". I'm used to bands saying a "set" is one list of songs and another set eg "2nd set" would be a different list of songs. Anyone know if the 2nd set is different or just 2nd show really?

Two sets means two different start times for the same show & setlist.

Where's the best place to park?

Best answer is to arrive really early, You will find plenty of off street parking behind or next to the businesses adjacent to the venue.…

    Can one wear shorts?

    Sure

IS this a smoking / smokers venue?

In 1995, California was the first state to enact a statewide smoking ban for restaurants.

Do you cook with peanut oil?

Do you need proof of COVID vaccination to enter?

My friend recently went and said there was no requirement.

What is the difference between inside and patio seating? Why is inside $45 and patio $15? I've never been and can't find the answer.

Patio seating is an enclosed area in the back where you watch and listen to the performance through a tv (granted, great quality video and audio) while inside is in front of the live band

When are the live jazz nights?

Is this venture REALLY all ages? Can I bring my 2 year old?

I would not recommend bringing toddlers since it is a jazz bar. Tight space and music equipment may also be dangerous to get around. They open for two shows starting at 9:30 and 11:00, beyond bedtime for a toddler.

For the 11:30 start time, how long is that set?

You open at 7. Is there live music, then? Or I need to purchase tickets for the show and wait til 9pm or 11pm?

The doors open at 7, it makes it nice to arrive and get situated in your seats, and order some drinks and dinner. The music starts at 9:30 I believe and the bands typically do 2 sets, the second starting at 11. It definitely gets more crowded as the…

Is there bar seating? What if you are Going solo

Yes there are around 15 seats at the bar, and plenty of people go solo.

Is there a dress code? If not, what's the usual attire like?

    No dress code, very casual.

    This place 21+?

I'm pretty sure minors can come in as long as they don't order alcohol.

What's the best night to go the Baked Potato?

I didn't have a good experience, but decided that it could have been a one-time bad luck thing, so I didn't review. I recently tried it again now that it became Brews Brothers, and I'm sorry to say that it really misses the mark for me. Here is the breakdown of the pros and cons: Pros: One star for friendly service and being dog friendly. One star for good alcohol. Cons: - Seating is very uncomfortable. When this place was Stout, seating was very comfy. But for some reason, they've raised the bench seating WAY too high, to the point that your feet dangle if you're under 5'6". You're WAY above the table, and it's awkward and quite uncomfortable. - Food is sub-par. We tried an Okie burger and an ahi sandwich. The Okie burger was dry, tasteless, and underseasoned. The ahi sandwich was bland and unremarkable. The fries were far too overbreaded for my taste. I used to love this place, but now, after two not-great experiences with meh food and bad seating, I do not think I'll be back. Please, guys! Lower your bench seating and improve your burgers! Like a year ago was the last time I ordered cider and he remembered! The vibe: I wouldn't really call this place a dive bar, but it's sort of got a hint of dive bar going on. The back patio is really nice during the summer but sitting inside the barrel is fun too. The bulldog is kinda small so you won't fit a ton of people in there but it's still fun. Lots of places to sit although sometimes it does get packed and it's standing room only. Not to mention, they allow dogs!!! This is a great place to come with a first date. It's good for dressing up a little but not too much and there are some corners you can sit in so you can have a little closeness. But the staff will also keep an eye out for you. If you are feeling uncomfortable in any way, they will keep an eye out for you and help you out. There isn't a designated dance floor but they won't be mad if you dance in the area that you've got available to you. Just don't accidentally knock anything over or hit anybody. The music: Chard is usually in charge of the play list but even when he isn't the music is usually pretty great and there's a band that comes and plays on Sundays for a while in the afternoon/evening. I have found some of my new favorite music because of this place. Drag brunch: I've never actually attended because I've heard it gets a little crazy and that can be a little scary overwhelming for me, but they do it everyday Saturday and Sunday and that's been going strong for a pretty long time so I have to assume it's a good time. The themed events: this is the kind of crazy I can handle though. They have done lots of the rings, zelda anniversary, a Star Wars themed singles event for Valentine's Day, a scholastic book fair, and Easter egg hunt, their Halloween and New Year's Eve events were AMAZING, I could go on and on. People turn up for these events and they are just some of the most fun especially with the costumes you will see. Go to Idle Hour. I've never loved a bar before. This place is something else. I promise you won't be disappointed, unless you're one of those kinds of people who finds something wrong no matter how amazing the place is or you're kind of an entitled jerk.

Loved everything about this place!…read more Staff was excellent and attentive. Food was amazing and very, very creative. The brick barrel vaulted ceiling that runs the length of the restaurant really adds to the ambiance of this place. Out of the seven dishes, only two were not as flavorful as expected. They were good by any other restaurant's standards, but just not great like the others. The other five dishes more than made up for this small blip. Can't wait to go again. Must tries: Quail Deviled Eggs with Ahi Tuna and Dill are amazing!! Hamachi with sprouted broccoli, tempura, ponzu, shiso aioli, Black Sesame Seeds Charred Brussels Sprouts with almonds, grapes, and Pecorino Romano. Lamb chops with Aji Amarillo, rosemary, and yogurt. These were the most tender lamb chops I have ever had. And that often overly-lamb flavor was not there. And do not pass up on the Charred Skirt Steak with yuca, chile de árbol, and aji mojo. Cooked to a perfect medium rare and extremely tender and exploding with flavor. The most expensive item of our dinner at $48 and worth it. A large portion that fed four of us.

I remedied that with my friend the other night. I would give Black Market 4.5 stars honestly. Great food! My friend loves her lobster rolls and she said this lobster roll is the best one she's ever had! I don't like lobster rolls that much but I had a bite and it was amazing! I think everything we had was terrific. The only thing that we didn't like were the fries that came with the steak. I did not get those at all. We should've just got regular fries. I think these were called Yucca fries, which I thought were gonna be like sweet potato fries, they were not. I don't know what they were made of, but it was like a fake french fry. Weird. Their clarified cocktail was fantastic. My friends nonalcoholic drink she thought was just OK. The decor of the place I loved. I loved that barrel brick roof. And our server was very nice and explained so many things to us. We'll definitely go back again. Glad to have a go to spot like this in the valley that I don't get to that much.
