Hadn't been here in a while, til a friend said - let's go see Luis Conte and some of his gang. WOW!!! First, the place is as I remembered - tiny, a bit cramped, and LEGENDARY! Every seat is literally 15 feet from the stage. If you're going, you better love the band and their music, because you will be right in the middle of it. Second, there's every type of baked potato imaginable- except "baked potato ropa vieja" - suggested by Luis Conte himself! Third, yes you need to stand in line before going in - worth it if you love the band that's playing. Sr Conte and his boys knocked it out. There were several guest musicians, and - surprise, surprise! - Andy Garcia himself joining in; he and Sr Conte are pals. If you haven't heard this group play, you must! We came here recently for the first time and had a great time. We lucked out and got a parking spot on the street right outside, and since we got there early we had great seats. They pack in a lot of people though so it can feel a little cramped. We enjoyed both of our potatoes (Philly cheesesteak and chicken fajita, which was the special that night). They were giant and we would probably just split one next time. Service was good. I wasn't expecting how cold it would be inside! Next time I'd wear long pants and bring a sweater. read more

It's fine, it's small, it's intimate, and the guy at the front door sometimes gets a little cranky if you don't tip him $2. No, but this place is classic and has been here since the 70s? I sort of understand why jazz intimidates and/or infuriates people. Some jazz is really weird. But the Baked Potato--a jazz club--is really fun. And welcoming. And not weird at all. I mean, what is more fun than a highly talented band jamming a couple feet away from you? And what is more normal (and delicious) than being served a giant baked potato stuffed with your favorite toppings? You don't have to eat here but you should. Just about any variety of toppings tastes great on a baked potato and they offer a zillion options. On the other hand, you do have to drink, whether it is alcohol or something else. There is a two drink minimum (overpriced water and soda count toward the minimum). The servers here are heroic . I have never seen a crew of servers work harder anywhere. Seating kind of sucks. It is cramped. It is not great. You have been warned. We saw Don Randi and Quest and they were superb and not weird at all. If you are not familiar with Randi, you should Google him and then go see him as soon as possible. He is an excellent musician and is also legendary, seriously. He is also 88 years old. Metered parking is your choice here and, by a sheer miracle, we found a spot nearby. Give yourself time to find parking. Also: you have the choice of saving a couple bucks and sitting outside on the patio while watching the concert on a television. Now, exactly why would you do that when you could watch the real thing live in front of you? I am sure there are some bands which play strange music here. But live music, especially live music steps in front of you, is simply a great thing. And baked potatoes with wonderful toppings are also pretty great things. Give this place a chance. Came for the late show on Sunday at this old jazz club and eatery in Studio City. Dennis Jones and his band of musicians created awesome sounds for the audience on the electric guitar, bass, drums, and vocals, with an extensive set list of blues rock tunes, the volume extra loud blasting through the speakers at the venue. The space was a tad cramped, but there was a good amount of tables and seating on all three sides of the stage, and music decor and posters plastered on the walls. No photos allowed during the performance. Doors didn't open till 20 minutes AFTER showtime... yes, they left patrons waiting outside way past the ticketed time. At least they got all our food orders in right away before closing the kitchen. Our dishes were slightly disappointing. They scraped so much of the potato out of the skin in order to stuff it with toppings, and there wasn't enough potato left to warrant calling it an actual "baked potato". That was unfortunate, making it severely overpriced if you're looking for a good baked potato. I wasn't interested in eating mainly a mountain of bacon, broccoli, and melted cheese, even if it was flavorful. I'd much prefer a little more balance with the ingredients... more potato please. Plus the teriyaki chicken potato was extra salty. The staff was nice and the live music performance was excellent, so I still gave 2 stars despite the issues with the food and delayed event entry. read more

So I decided to bring my mom to The Baked Potato as one of her birthday presents so she could experience a live performance. The show itself was great.. the environment is super quaint and cozy. There's definitely not a lot of room though. As far as seating goes, you obviously have to buy tickets to get in, but even after that, they seat everyone as close as possible to fit more people in. I think if they sold a few less tickets, it would be much more comfortable. But for the most part, the vibe is great. As long as you're not buying patio seating, you're going to be able to see and really experience the show up close. That said, our server was a sweetheart. The food itself isn't necessarily the best, but honestly, you're not really there for the food. Most of the menu is based around baked potatoes with various toppings. They did have a good selection of alcoholic beverages. They did mess up my order initially, but like I said, my server was great and brought me the correct one eventually. The performance was awesome, but if you're seated in a less-than-ideal spot, the sound can be either too loud (if you're right next to the speakers) or too low (if you're outside on the patio, where you technically can't even see the show live). Other than that, the environment was dimly lit, which I really enjoyed. And the artists they book are always a pleasure to see live. Overall, it's a good experience and definitely a staple spot to check out if you're ever in L.A. Oh, and as far as the tickets and pricing go.. that all depends on who's performing and whether you want to see the 8 p.m. show, the 10 p.m. one, or if you're interested in patio seating. Tickets typically start around $30 and go up from there depending on the artist and (I assume) how early you book. Ah! I've been wanting to hit a jazz spot for a long time and this experience is probably one that will forever be one of the best memories for me! I bought two tickets for Benny Rietveld and his Orchestra which costed $68.50 after tax. There are no seating arrangements, it's first come first served and there were two slots - an 8 PM and a 10 PM showing. We opted for the 8 PM as we didn't want to stay out too late in Studio City. We arrived around 6:30 PM and had plenty of time to relax, grab our drinks and eat before the band started at 8:30 PM. It's a two drink minimum per person - Non alcoholic drinks are included in the minimum. If you don't order two drinks they charge for bottled water and give it to you with your check. Parking is tricky - There's parking on Ventura but call the venue to see if there are other spots you could park at. This is a tiny venue - The seats are really small, and everyone in front of the stage is cramped into a tiny space with a small table (just big enough to hold two plates of food and two drinks). Be careful of sitting all the way back as someone's drink is probably right behind you. There is a bar with seats available and every seat has a view of the band. Of course, if you have neck issues, try to sit right in front of the stage or to the left of it. Some people bring earplugs. I noticed some of the staff wearing them, too. Not a bad idea but I didn't have any. Max volume! Their menu has nothing but baked potato items - Things like Marinated Steak Potato, Hot Dog and Sauerkraut, Teriyaki Chicken Potato, and Savanna's Mondo Veggie Potato. All kinds of things I could never dream about can be put on a potato! Prices range from about $18 - $26. I got their Marinated Steak with Pizzaiola Potato ($26.50) and my husband got their Chicken Parmesan Potato ($25.50). Both were full of cheese (which is an extra cost), meat, and perfectly baked potato - And the potato was huge! Each came with a side salad. It was surprising very good, not too salty, a bit pricy, but I get it. The drinks were a couple of bucks each and we got coffees and iced teas. Service is spot on and then they kind of leave you alone while the band plays, coming by during certain intervals to check on you and towards the end to give you your check. Great experience! Which is why we were so disappointed and did NOT enjoy the best musicians the night they had Luis Conte.They had Andy Garcia play- when I saw the name we assumed it was a musician with the same last name as the actor. I try to visit The Baked Potato and bring newcomers as often as possible, as to me, its a staple location in the greater LA/Hollywood experience. The classic music bar vibe is cozy and almost historic, without feeling dated or old, the baked potatoes are imposingly large and stuffed to the brim, and the bartenders (shout out to Yorlin, who was awesome) balance great service with the show. The musicians and the groups that perform here are always fantastic and if you're looking for a consistently high quality live jazz/blues show, look no further than here! If you're looking just for food, just, don't even bother, you'll find better food at the Carl's Jr across the street. I've been to bars where the food was the highlight, the highlight was leaving the place after being gentle parented to wait an hour and a half for 3 potatoes, with that half hour being spent waiting for the wait staff to do basic math so I could actually pay for it after they got my total incorrect 3 times. The waitresses were nice and obviously underpaid and understaffed by the dipshit running the bar. Though I didn't intend to drink, I did get a coke on the house after the first 30 minutes and it was watered down syrup, so I can only imagine how disappointing the drinks are. The audio of the live band was overly loud to the point you couldn't even hear your own thoughts, or how bad the owner was at simple math. read more

I was so excited to finally try The Baked Potato. I had heard of the legendary jazz club with a fully potato themed menu and was thrilled. But what an absolute scam of a place!! I came recently and was able to score seats on the patio. It wasn't until after we paid the $20 per person fee and were escorted to the back that we realized our tickets took us to a space 2 rooms away from the musicians. There are 2 TVs where you view a livestream of the main room. Never once do you hear any live music. Also.... in terms of a patio? There's hardly any fresh air. It's just an unventilated shack attached to the back of the building in the parking lot. To make the experience better, on top of the cover to get in, they add a 2 drink minimum per person. Cocktails are an overpriced and watery $16. We would've ordered a second round, but we never saw our waitress again before the show ended (there were only 2 other full tables on the patio). Don't worry, they'll give you a $6.50 water bottle for the ride home. The baked potatoes are similarly overpriced and flavorless. Come here if you want to spend a minimum of $75 per person on cover and drinks alone. read more

Upsides: An institution that hosts a number of musical talent. Downsides: If you want prime seating you need to queue up around an hour ahead. If it's pouring rain, you're on your own while waiting outside to get in and seated. If you don't carefully check, you may get charged twice for drinks. If you try to reach out by phone and email for resolution so you can be refunded, you will be completely ignored. If you're lucky, your credit card dispute works in your favor. It's such a unique eclectic spot with really cool live music and big a** potatoes that are quite good!! Don't try to pop in spontaneously on a weekend especially--tickets get sold out closer to a week before, and they really pack up the place so just be prepared for minimal elbow room. Our go-to potatoes are the Philly cheese steak and the chicken parmesan. I switched it up this weekend with the buffalo chicken and that was v good too! If you prefer a cushy jazz environment, there are other more glamorous places. And if you are looking for a restaurant that specializes in baked potatoes, you have plenty of options. But if you want a super intimate place to see and hear players play, I don't know if there is any place quite like it. To the people complaining about the patio, it is quite clear on the website that this is not in the room. If I can't be inside, I pass. But there is a vibe of being part of the night, if you want that. The bartender and waitstaff do a great job. I have probably been here 10 times now and the drinks have been excellent and when I have ordered potatoes, they were big (huge) and flavorful. The potato things works. It makes for a manageable kitchen. Pricing? It costs money to operate a club. Musicians expect to be paid. Sound and lighting is an expense. When you are a small venue, you can't sell more tickets. The combination of ticket sales, food and beverage is the equation. I love coming here. To sit three feet from master artists is incredible. To turn around and talk to a legend, is amazing. Every time I visit The Baked Potato, I'm always reminded how much I love this venue. Now. I am a Jazz venue aficionado. I love all the classics and The Baked potato is definitely on my list of favorites. Its been around forever and I like to say its one of the few venues that was passed down to me, since my parents visited often when I was a kid. What can I say?! Its small, intimate, and I've always had the best experiences there. Because of how small the place is, there isn't a bad seat in the house. Recently, I saw Danny Janklow and was seated perfectly at the bar, drink in hand and was beautifully taken over by the music. If you want to truly FEEL THE MUSIC, the Baked Potato has your back. Wonderfully classic venue! Since, i'm a woman who ventures out alone when I go out, Its also a great venue where I feel safe. This place is so much fun. Honestly had an amazing huge yummy baked potatoe. My daughter did the chicken Parm potato and I did the cheesesteak potato they were both delicious. Not only do you get to listen to music but honestly, this is some of the best people watching you will get! Wow. Honestly I felt like I was back in the seventies walking into my older brother's room. It's a super tiny place but so perfect for the jazz experience. My wife and I both love jazz so we had to check it out. The food was great. We each got a potato and they are no joke. Huge. Smothered. Delicious. I had the chefs special which was cheese, chicken, and broccoli. Why wife got ham, cheese and corn. Both were not over cooked, but still piping hot. No variety but that's not what you're here for, so who cares. Bottom line, get the potato and prepare to not eat it all. The drinks were great as well, no beer on tap but good bottles and the martinis were perfect. The service was impeccable. I love this place and will be back. Right when you walk in, you get the best vibes. Small, well lit, colorful venue with very thoughtfully arranged seating. The band set up kind of reminded me of NPR tiny desk concert. Small but effective!!! The sound was brilliant! We listened to psychedelic rock/jazz and our ears were beyond happy! The baked potato choices are exceptional! You get the largest baked potato in the history of baked potato and you basically can get anything beyond your wildest baked potato dreams on it! I ordered the hotdog and sauerkraut potato because honestly I'm always in the mood for hotdogs but also because how could anyone see this on the menu and not order it? It was SO freakin good! Hotdog and sauerkraut ratio was on point. The potato was cooked perfectly and I was so delighted with the salad dressing on the salad. My wife had a super cheesy veggie potato and she loved hers too. The staff rocks here!! Extremely sweet and seemed stoked to be there. We ordered French 75 cocktails and they were delightful. It's a two drink minimum at the baked potato! They have a patio to watch music from two big screen tvs. This is a cool experience and less expensive. There is only one bathroom here but it makes sense for the size of the spot. Parking was easy - right on the street but it's Ventura and I could imagine it gets busy so I suggest arriving early for parking alone. We had such a great night and we can't wait to go back! Had a great time at the baked potato despite the very rude boy at the host stand. Our waitress however was lovely and the music was wonderful and it was so fun to sit and listen to a live jazz band. The baked potatoes are inventive and heftily loaded with toppings and I appreciate the side salad it comes with. My only complaint is that once the music starts it's definitely too loud to order any more food, so definitely order before the show or in between sets. I was considering either the 8:00 or 10:00 show for last week's Ernie Watts Group show. I accidentally put tickets for the 8:00 show into the shopping basket in addition to the tickets I wanted for the 10:00 show and bought two tickets for both shows by mistake. I immediately emailed and phoned the venue trying to get a refund for the 8:00 tickets. When I didn't get a response after a day, I called and emailed again, this time speaking to someone who told me to call again the next day at 6:00. When I called there was no answer. When I arrived, the 10:00 sitting was delayed so we had to stand in the rain for 20 minutes. The doorman told me I wasn't going to get a refund. The band was good but the mix was terrible: sax too loud, drums overpowering the bass. I was sitting against the wall facing center stage so the mix should have been perfect. I tried one more email to Justin the day after the show, and again, no response. read more
