Vanessa and the entire staff are absolutely amazing. They were extremely accommodating, super professional, and most importantly, friendly (but not that fake friendly, the real friendly where my first visit seemed like I had been going there for years). They made my son and I feel very much at home. The visit was very thorough but still didn't take a lot of time. Most importantly, they didn't make me feel pressured into my dental health. Going to any spot, even health care places, I always feel pressured to buy, but with the staff at The Reno Dentist, we had a very honest conversation about my dental health, they made sure I understood all pricing and double checked what my insurance covered and most importantly didn't cover. BEWARE! BEWARE! The people running this place are dishonest and take advantage of you financially. Stay as far away as possible, if you have any other viable options within you dental network pick them. Once I am done with this review I will be immediately contacting the Better Business Bureau of Northern Nevada with my formal complaint as well reviewing this dental office on any other site that permits reviews to prevent others from being swindled like myself. I went in to have my teeth cleaned as well as x-rays for a wisdom tooth removal and replacement of fillings. They gave me an estimate of 271 dollars. I signed it, they signed it, emailed it me and etc. The next week RIGHT AFTER the procedure is over they hand me my bill of 556 dollars! I am like "What? That is twice as much as the estimate!!" And they claim "No, you are confused we are looking at the estimate and its 556." Very foolishly I take their word for it, figuring surely I read the estimate wrong or forgot the true amount over this past week. I pay the bill. Once I get home I see that I was right, the estimate was for only 271! They blatantly lied to my face when they said they were looking at the estimate on the computer. I proceeded to contact them and for the next week and get the ole' 'con artist' run-around. (They apparently forgot to charge me for the xrays and just figured telling me about the new price AFTER the procedure is done and it's too late to shop around) It takes them forever to return phone calls and have awful customer service; they weren't even remotely interested in making things right. They basically told me the error isn't their problem; tough luck. I am broke college student that 300 dollars is a week's pay and they cleverly scammed me out of it. It's like taking your car to a shop, them quoting 1250$ for a repair. The next day after they fix the car they give a bill for 2500$ and say "We forgot to charge you for the inspection. Pay us or let it go to collections." After this was all over I contacted the Better Business Bureau, a few dental organizations and they all agreed that what they did is regarded as an "unethical business practice." They made the error and I paid for it. So listen to my advice and the other negative reviews on here, don't get taken advantage of by these folks. read more

Everyone gets stressed out when they get to the doctors office. I didn't have a chance to eat breakfast when I initially got here, they had snacks. I have always been terrified of dental work, especially crowns. Had one done here and it was not bad. They make their own crowns so no two-week wait. And no biting down on that gooey stuff to make an impression. Done instead with 3D camera. In and out with permanent crown in under two hours. Very nice staff. I chose to utilize their TMJ services and all I can say is: Excellent! No more headaches, no more jaw pain, no more shoulder pain etc. Very professional office staff, always willing to go the extra mile to help out a patient. I'd like to call out one individual in particular: Cheyanne Frank is the TMJ specialist and she does a fantastic job! Very relaxing atmosphere, she is a true professional. I would've given them 5 stars but my only grievance is the cost. It's quite an expensive procedure, but that's up to the individual to determine. I recently went to The Reno Dentist and had two crowns done by Dr. Ben Whitted. My tooth had been sensitive and my jaw painful for a very long time. After Dr. Whitted gave me my new crowns, my pain is completely gone. I love my new teeth. I recommend Dr. Whitted and The Reno Dentist staff very highly. I moved out of the Reno area about a year ago. Prior to moving, I went to The Reno Dentist. This week, I came to Reno for a visit. I ended up with terrible tooth pain from a known issue that I had procrastinated on. I called The Reno Dentist near their closing time and explained the situation. They got me in the next morning without issue. They had to do some shuffling, but were honestly glad to do it so I would be taken care of. I'm impressed and appreciative. I usually do not write reviews, but as a registered nurse I feel compelled to write one about this practice. I am new to town and decided to try Reno Dentist. What a mistake! I went in to get a routine cleaning and my first visit there was several hours. I should have left when I observed in the waiting room the reception staff asking the gentleman next to me his name 3 times and what he was there for. I got a "tour" of the practice and a boasting of what the practice does for the community. I prefer humbleness. Then there was some sporty car adorned with a big bow parked out front as part of some giveaway if you refer others to this practice. I would prefer the savings be passed on to current patients. I recently moved from another state and saw my family dentist regularly every 6 months for preventative care for many years and at my first visit here, I was told I needed $5000 worth of work done. I believe services at Reno Dentist were based on how much could be collected from my insurance company. A staff person came into the room at one point and whispered "her insurance will cover it". I was then ushered into a space where facial and sinus X-rays were done. Topical fluoride treatment was done without my knowledge, as this is most definitely recommended in the pediatric population, but cost me extra. The hygienist asked me how I was planning on paying today before I could get out of the chair. This felt very high pressure to me especially when a potential future cost would be $5000. I was referred to an endodontist being told one of my molars was probably needing a root canal. I followed through with this but decided not to go to their referral dentist and was told that my tooth was ok. A welcome goodie bag was given to me which I put into the Goodwill pile. If you are looking for dental care, I would most definitely NOT recommend Reno Dentist care . Please search for another practice who is committed to you and not their pocketbooks. I have quite a bit of dental work to be done. After trying different dentists in town, I came here because I liked what they were "about". They were very persistent about getting me and my daughter in to see them. They spent about a week working on getting my insurance paperwork in order, and called and said we were good to go. I went in and they were SUPER SUPER friendly to my daughter and I. They walked through a long term plan for me and we scheduled 5 or 6 treatments that I needed done. The following day I am looking over things and I see that they ARE NOT a provider on my insurance list (which is exactly what I was afraid of, that is why I was stand off-ish about getting the appointment in the first place). I try calling.....during business hours.....and get a message that they are closed? I leave a message. I spoke with them later that day, and they were VERY apologetic and refunded 80% of the money charged back to my CC. That was nice, however, they stated over and over again in that phone call that it was their mistake and how deeply sorry they are. They should have refunded it all back....because now my daughter and I will need to go somewhere else, and pay for the initial visit and consultation AGAIN. read more

This office was a joke. I was sold more than a thousand dollars of work I apparently did not need. Never called me to set up appts to start treatment in over a year, Had to demand money back. Never returned calls. Vanessa in billing was awful to work with. She blackmailed me for my records. I asked her on several occasions to have Dr. Sykes call me so I can discuss my matters but never received a call. It was the oddest and worst dental experience I have ever had. read more

This long-ish review is very overdue, as this is from my experience with this office 3 years ago. The Reno Dentist is a good office with dedicated professionals and an excellent TMJ treatment program in my experience (thanks Cheyenne!), which I highly recommend (it's called TruDenta, if they still have it). They also were great for an ortho/braces evaluation, I felt I was in good hand with Dr. Sykes. I had to give this office a very, very generous 4 stars however because of the upsetting outcome of replacing my baby tooth/molar that had no adult tooth replacement. I initiated the conversation and wanted to have an implant, and I was referred to Dr. Redlinger (who I believe no longer works there). Because my insurance only covered a bridge that's what I went for. Dr. Redlinger's assistant told me those could be removed, which was a huge factor in my decision. Since it turns out this is a permanent treatment (we obviously had a communication issue), I'm now stuck with two crowns on what had been two perfectly fine teeth. I had no idea the process of crowing can lead to pressure and temperature sensitivity issues as a result of removing your natural enamel, or that crowns need to be replaced every several years - and I had very clearly stated I wanted to replace my baby tooth as a smart investment to make things easier for me down the line. Lastly, I had no idea a bridge leaves the area of your missing tooth to be susceptible to bone loss, which can affect the adjacent teeth. Perhaps it's on me for not researching all this beforehand. But in my opinion more care should be made to weigh the pros and cons with your patients, because us patients are not the professionals. And knowing what I know now, I have no idea why anyone would want to see a someone in their twenties crown two good teeth, and leave that area susceptible to bone loss, etc. Frustrating, but I appreciate the life lesson that she taught me: always get a second opinion on this kind of major work. Since leaving Reno two dentists have told me they would've never have had me undergo this treatment. Oh well, living life. I know dentists make mistakes, and I know the Reno Dentist was otherwise a great office. And since Dr. Redlinger isn't there anymore, I almost didn't leave this review, but I'm also happy to share my experience as a bridge procedure review for anyone who's considering treating a missing tooth. read more

I see the other reviews here are either all-good or all-bad. From me, there's both some good and some bad. Good part: First visit, Dr. Sykes told me I needed three crowns done. Two previous dentists had told me the same thing so I know it was for real. I was able to schedule them to spread out the pain and the expense. I had a whole lot of questions about the process and about materials the crown is made of, and other things. Dr. Sykes and his team were good about answering or finding answers to all of them. Each time, Dr. Sykes called me later in the evening to see how I was doing after the local anesthetic wore off. I appreciate that. The bad part, is mostly a personal style thing. The first few times I was there, I met team members who included hygienists, technicians, receptionists, bookkeepers, and so forth. And only one dentist, Dr. Sykes. Along about the third year when I was there for a check-up and it was time for the dentist to come in, it was not Dr. Sykes, it was someone else! A group practice is a fine thing, and it should be labeled as such. This one is not labeled. It would be better to call the practice "The Reno Dentists" with the practitioners listed as "Dr. Shane Sykes and Associates" (or better yet, list the names of the other dentists). It seems slightly dishonest to suggest there is only one dentist when there are several. If I were one of the other DDS's in the practice I'd insist on my name being there in some fashion. read more

Absolutely the most professional and caring dentist and staff in all my daughter's long history of dental work. She is a university student in Reno, away from home and has had several emergencies and then follow ups. They have always accomodated her and her schedule. Dr. Whitted has been patient and kind as she has been terrified of any and all dentists she has met since her first visit as a small child. Vanessa and the office staff have been beyond helpful with me handling billing and payments over the phone. I cannot thank them enough for making her visits such a great experience. Today was the second annual free dental day and my question to these folks is why would you have so many people waiting in line knowing there was no way you could see them all? Instead of taking only a certain number and putting another group on stand by? The concept of fate is becoming more appealing to me. My cavity became infected last night, little money, no meds and no dentist... went to school today passing new vehicles with the Reno Dentist all over it and two more behind it by my house. I rush to school and tell myself if it gets worse after my Practicum and classes I need help. If the cars are still there after school then I will call them for help. Well they were. I pulled over anf called. They were right there in the offices. I walk in and ask for prices and expressed my painful situation. They gave me a complementary exam, x-ray and a discounted price for an extraction. I am low on funds until payday and started to leave without treatment and they offered to only charge me a portion now and the rest on payday!! I cried yes and thank you. Now I have a good dentist close to home, affordable and very patient centered. I am telling everyone about the amazing care. I'm in pain still but not as much and I know I'm getting better. read more

Everyone seemed to go out of their way to make you feel welcomed and comfortable. This is the first dental office I have ever been to that didn't try to pressure me into additional treatments which i appreciate very much. Horrible service and truly scary expirance! I had a Novocain injection performed by dental hygienist and not the Doctor; ( A first for me - I was puzzled as to why the injection was not been performed by Doctor??) Clearly something went wrong within seconds, my right side of the face and eyes went completely numb hindering my visibility and causing a reaction that not only had me in panic, but it impacted my ability to see and move my eyes upwards for over 6 hours. Nonetheless, I was not able to drive home as my visibility was severely impaired, I had my daughter call my husband to pick me up - To his disbelief, upon arrival, he was not greeted nor approached by any of the doctors nor staff to ensure my safety or discuss the event. The careless and absolutely dismissive approach of this dentist facility is to be put to shame! No follow ups where made by Doctor post incident at all. Note, I'm healthy, in my mid 30's and never had any issues with Novocain in over 16+ yrs of exposure. read more

I hesitated to go here given all of the recent negative reviews (sort the Yelp comments by most recent to see for yourself), but many of the negative reviews had to do with billing issues. I am a physician myself so I thought I might be able to better navigate billing issues. On my first visit the hygienist was definitely the worst that I have ever encountered in my life. Very unnecessarily rough through the entire cleaning. My gums were bleeding all over the place, which is not something I have ever experienced before despite getting my teeth cleaned at least 3x per year. Her bedside manner was also about a 2 out of 10 with 1 being the worst. Like the other reviewers, I also got the impression they were constantly trying to upcharge. They attempted to sell me on a water pic, special mouthwash, mouth microbiome analysis, antibiotics, etc., all of which I declined. The hygienist wanted to do a deep cleaning, which I also declined. She was clearly annoyed with this. At checkout, I was told that they would charge my insurance for "periodontal maintenance" instead of general cleaning even though periodontal maintenance is basically the same as a cleaning except with them calling out numbers to signify the gap between tooth and gum. I argued with this at checkout but was told that my insurance would cover it. My insurance did not cover it because I had already had two previous cleanings that year. I called the office and spoke with someone from the front desk who clearly had dealt with these issues before (i.e. they have a well-oiled machine in place for maximizing the charges to insurance/patients). I asked if I could just get a regular cleaning at my next appointment and she stated that I could always decline a "recommended procedure" but, in that case, I would be going against the "medical" advice of the hygienist, and, therefore, they could only polish my teeth and not clean them or else it would be a risk to the hygienist that she could lose her license. LOL. I mean seriously? The dentist had previously stated that I can decline any procedure, but they have obviously figured out ways to discourage you from doing so. I cancelled my next appointment and will not be returning. This place is a complete joke. read more

Its been about 7 years since I have seen a dentist. I made an appointment to finally go to the Reno dentist because of a gum infection that was not healing. I figured I might as well go in and get everything checked out since had been so long. Dr. Foulk was the dentist that did the new patient establishment thingy with me. He clearly explained all the work that I needed and answered all of my questions very thoroughly. I was also given a very thorough break down of the estimate of the bill. As it turns out that I had cavities, lots of cavities. I decided to to go in on a Saturday and get them all fixed in one sitting. Dr. Foulk decided that it was best that I start on the side of my mouth that had the most cavities. GOOD CALL! After he was done with that side of my mouth I called it quits and decided to come in on another Saturday to get the cavities on the other side filled. But since he had done a majority of the work my next appointment would not be as long or as bad. I'm grateful that he decided to fix as much as he could. The second Saturday I came in I had Dr. Skyes do the rest of my fillings. He also did a good job. Overall, they are an outstanding team and am so glad to have gone into see them. read more
