The origami ceiling, lively bar, friendly staff, unique cocktails, fun bathroom, and photo booth in the corner made for an unforgettable experience. My friend said it was the busiest he had ever seen the place, and it was loud. But we got some awesome drinks that I swore I could've taken pics of -- the lighting was a little crazy, so I think I ultimately changed my mind with that. One was the periscope which was a refreshing and summery gin drink... And I think I tried the naked and famous too because I like mezcal. I had already eaten so I skipped the restaurant the speakeasy's connected to, but I cannot wait to return to Houston outside of a Con so I can really go all out on exploring. It was an amazing way to end my first night!

I ordered the Side to the Sun Rises (gin, yuzu, mint, cucumber) which was light, refreshing, and well balanced. I would recommend it if you enjoy gin-based cocktails with a slightly fruity flavor. Overall, a fun spot with great vibes and definitely worth checking out!

I rode with a friend to celebrate an Htown Legend in Live Music, Marium Echo. If you have never heard of her, shame on YOU! and if you have, then you know it was already a good time to just hear her sing. Her and her band were phenomenal! Two sets from 830 to 11. I did not drink so I cannot tell you about that but I saw plenty people at the bar consistently throughout the night, so I imagine its decent. As far as space is concerned- we'll its called the Liv'n Room. It's about the size of it, Stage is is front of the bar. Two people deep could actually stand and listen to the music but thats it. Otherwise, people stand or sit on left and right of stage, but it doesn't matter when you have a great sound system and someone that can blow. Top it off, Marium and her band know how to engage the crowd with one of the guitarist playing a mean solo into the crowd. This people is live music at it finest in Houston and don't let nobody tell you different. I plan to come back VERY soon cause this was a great time- and I was home by midnight without any drama. That for sure is a win win.

I stopped by on a Sunday around 6 p.m. While I Uber'd, I know that you can find free street parking in the area despite it often being busy. Ambiance (3.5/5): The Davenport was packed even on a Sunday evening. To the point where no seats were available. Luckily for me, about 10 minutes in, the lady next to me left so I was able to snag a seat at the bar. There are also high tops and a small patio out front. The Davenport is a pretty chill establishment, but one with a loyal following. Service (4/5): A full bar usually means service issues. There was a component of that here. It took a little while to order my drink and later to get the bartender's attention to close my tab. Given how popular The Davenport is, your experience will likely be the same. Luckily, they make up for it by going above and beyond with their cocktails. I'll get to that in a second. Food (N/A): I was on a liquid diet, and to be honest, while I'm not 100%, I don't think they have food. There was a guy walking around selling boudin though right when I was about to leave. Drinks (4.5/5): The Davenport is known for their martinis so that's what I recommend going with. It's a The Cheesecake Factory-type menu with 40 or so martinis to choose from. Paradox of choice situation. I ended up going with the gummy bear which was a solid cocktail, although a bit too sweet for my taste. Here's what makes Davenport next level... their martinis pack a punch. I always appreciate a stiff drink. And on top of that, they often give you more than your cocktail in a martini glass. There's usually quite a bit leftover so they'll pour that in another glass for you. Basically a drink and a half for the price of one! Given the strength of the cocktails and the quantity, it's definitely a good deal. The Davenport has been around for a while and has become a well-known spot. I'm glad I finally got to cross it off the list. After you down a martini or two, there's an Irish pub right next door and Trill Burger right across the street.

We came specifically for the chocolate martinis and I tried out an expresso one as well.. It was dangerously good. The bartender warned us ahead of time as they pour double here and yea.. he wasn't kidding. It was filled all the way to the brim.. you're getting your money's worth on a delicious martini. Vibe was a good entire time as they started playing some R&B/hiphop... the crowd slowly trickled in. By the time we left it was almost packed! We had a really nice little table near the front so got to see alot of regulars come in. The bartender even gave us a round of shots on the house for being our first time. (It was like a double green tea shot lol) Great experience overall and definitely be coming back if I'm in this area.. Parking can be tight but there's spots around in some of the nearby shopping centers. I hear it can definitely get busy in the evenings, so glad to have gotten to try out this spot! Unfortunately, after one of my classes there, I forgot my shoes that I had changed out of and I called them to see if they could look and they were very rude and hung up on me because they simply said no we can't do that. So I quickly messaged the instructor, knowing his classes were still going on, and not long after he messaged me back a picture and said are these your shoes and I'm so happy he did that because I don't trust this place to have cared, but to also have even looked after the class was over. He kindly left it with the staff there and let me know so I called and they were very rude and snappy to say "Yes OK?! we have them". I was unable to go that following week to pick them up so I went a little over a week later and I just wanted to call to confirm they were still there and the person again was very rude and simply said "YES WE ALREADY TOLD YOU A WEEK AGO THEY WERE HERE AND YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO HAVE COME TO PICK THEM UP SO IF YOU DIDN'T THEN THEY MUST STILL BE HERE!" and hung up. Since I was making the commute out there in traffic on a Friday with my daughter I decided to call back and ask that they confirm that they're still back there and the same gentleman answered, and very rudely said " LISTEN WE ARE NOT A SHOE STORE. SO NO WE ARE VERY BUSY!" and to no surprise been a surprise HUNG UP right after that. When I got there, there were tables open and the bartenders greeted me and clearly did not know. I was the same person that they had been very rudely talking to so I asked about the shoes he went and got them and I asked if he was the gentleman I had taught you on the phone and he couldn't even look me in the eye but still said "no". However, I recognized his voice and clearly knew it was him. This place is not only is very expensive for drinks and food, but the staff being the way they are no customer should ever be treated like this. I was not rude, was not angry, and yet was treated with such little respect. There are a bunch of other, really nice places with the same vibe and much nicer stuff that you can give your money to on a night out. **Update: completely disagree with your response, and the fact that you can't take ownership for the way that your staff talks to customers is exactly why I feel my review is very valid. I did not call 8 times. These were not house slippers. Also, some additional notes you made are not true.**

My profile: 40s, grown and sexy, open to trying new food in the city and I like an elevated dining environment and based on the clientele, the crowd skewed younger than my group **Greeting Area: Patrons enter front-and-rear pass-through elevator; It is a small area which got stacked up with people waiting for their table. You are greeted with a glass of sparkling wine and you are given a 15 min. grace period for your table, before your reservation is cancelled, per my friend. We waited a bit because I was 13 minutes late, delaying the seating of our party - when we were seated, the place was not full, so I'm curious why we had to wait. **Food: The food was hot and well-prepared. Nothing was overly salty and the side sauce on the kebobs was a perfect complement to flavor - I didn't have the burger that my friend had but he described it as flavorful and the fries looked very crispy and perfectly made **Ambience: You have two hours to eat from when the orders are put into the system - this always irks me because you feel like you're on a conveyor belt and rushed to eat. For $30 chicken kebobs, can I have a moment? But, I have a theory...the volume of the music helps to "bump" you right on out the door and speeds up your eating - it was too loud and made it hard for us to hear the server, much less the convo at the table. We asked for it to be turned down a bit, but not sure that ever happened. In addition, hookah. Why? The place is not vented, nor are these hookah-ers seated on the patio. **Decor: They were missing the brunchspot "flower wall", however, floral decor was abounding - there was nice furniture in the "regency style" was mixed with modern elements; it was tasteful but we need to do a good wipedown and dusting of windows, mirrors and lighting - I took a mirror selfie which had a giant smudge mark **Service: Aliyah was our server and she was very personable and she had a very welcoming spirit. We ordered some beverages and additional sauces, which were never delivered when the restaurant started to fill up and we ultimately cancelled them --Glows: Great service, good app (the wings), front end staff was pleasant and took a photo of our group, good/hot food --Grows: Wipe down the glass leading to the restroom (VISIBLE and clear smudges from people touching the glass), clean the chandeliers, clear out the (kitchen?) smoke from the men's room, allow for an approved list of side item subs (rice or fries/mashed potatoes, etc.), stop charging for 2 additional ozs. of sauce for the food - the food cost doesn't justify this "nickel and diming", don't serve a chipped or broken plate to a customer: THROW IT OUT (details make the difference) Hacks: Park on the 2nd level and enter through the front-and-rear pass-through elevator to get to the restaurant, get two hours of free parking at the front desk The verdict: I think it's a one-and-done. Great potential, great product but I'll leave this for the youngins.
