Absolutely love this spot! it's easily one of my go-to brunch places in NYC. The menu is consistently excellent, but the steak and eggs is my personal favorite and never disappoints. That said, you really can't go wrong with anything here. If you're in the mood for something sweet, the Belgian waffles and Japanese pancakes are next-level and definitely worth trying. My fiancé stopped in before heading up to the Yankees came. We started with the spicy tomatillo margarita and summer vibes and the fried basket. Both drinks were great. This appetizer was HUGE; enough to be a meal in itself. It included fried shrimp, fried fruits/veggies, calamari and a large piece of fried fish (maybe flounder?) Very light and not too filling considering the portion size. To eat I had the perfect smash burger, subbed for Parmesan truffle fries and my fiancé had the fried chicken sandwich. The burger was DELICIOUS. The beef au jus was SO GOOD. The Parmesan truffle fries, amazing; with the au ju, chefs kiss!! My fiancé liked the chicken sandwich but wasn't out of this world. It came with a side of mac and cheese which was ok. I wish it was baked instead of creamy. I forget our server's name but he was so great! He was attentive and talked to us about the Yankees but didn't interrupt our meal. Really added a nice personal touch to our experience. I I thought the food was OK. I had a sushi roll that I really liked and my friend had the prime rib. Everything was delicious. They put us in the back of the restaurant and it was really too cold though back there I wanted to sit in front, but if you don't make a reservation, you probably won't sit in front at least on a Saturday night. The service that we had was not spectacular. Even though there were not that many people sitting in the back, our waitress was very slow and tried to push stuff on us that we didn't want. They did not bring any bread which a lot of restaurants don't do anymore unless you ask There are no real desserts . I will say that the sushi was good but I thought it was a little on the warm side. I'm not sure if that was intentional or not but of course I ate it. It's $22 for one roll of sushi so believe me I had to eat it. The drinks are fine. Best thing about this place is that there's plenty of seating around the bar area, with long high tops. There's also a happy hour from 4-7pm for well drinks and bar bites. We had drinks in both the happy hour and regular versions and there's definitely a difference between the two so you get what you pay for. Gotta say the waiter had a bit of an attitude and I was a little annoyed that he took my drink order, served it, and then told the table about the happy hour. The restaurant is very spacious, with lots of dinning space in the back and even offers coat check, which was a nice touch, especially on a cold night. The service was spot on from start to finish, and the food did not disappoint. I ordered the skirt steak for my entrée and it was absolutely delicious, the sauce it came in was wow and full of flavor. For dessert, we shared the sundae and the monkey bread... wow, both were so good and the perfect way to end the meal. To drink, I had the Dotty, which was yummy and made with vodka which is not normally my go to, but still it was great. This is a great spot for a date night or for dining with a group. Riley got us seated in a comfortable booth seating for our party, and the interiors were really festive. Halloween is coming! Tried their Ribbon Lager, which was really crip and light and easy to drink. For food, we got a few things including Mac & Cheese and Butter Pasta for the kids from their kids menu. I tried their Parmesan Cheese Ravioli ($26) which was really good. Phillipe, our server suggested Fried Chicken ($32) for the table which for perfect for three adults to share. Their Truffle Fries ($14) didn't really have a truffle kick. The Tuna Crack Rice Flight ($26) was impressive as well. Noise levels were on the higher end, they had a private party going on. I came for restaurant week, hoping to sample a lot of the menu for an affordable option. The overall meal was very hit and miss for me. The hits: the arancini was great. But what's not the love about deep fried rice balls. The filling was great, the texture was great, the sauce was great. The crepe cake was also good. Tasted like a crepe cake should. Creamy, relatively light and with a great sauce. The miss: My entree was disappointing. The lamb kabobs were fine, not mind blowing. It was served with pearl couscous, which was not the best choice for it. And the tzatziki was not my favorite. It tasted a little too sweet. The dish missed points for coming together well. The service was fine. Our waiter was fine. But some of the other staff were really great. Overall ambiance is: very typical uptown eatery. Dark lights, vintage decor. There are not a ton of options for children so keep that in mind if you're coming here with little ones. There is a Mac and cheese and it's not bad. When the Ribbon opened several years ago, it was wonderful, and almost always crowded - good food and good vibes with $2 oysters and great drinks. Since then, especially the past 3 years, it has steadily declined. My Son and I went for brunch today, and it was disappointing and overpriced - probably the last time I go there. As far back as 3 years ago, my Son and I had a wonderful dinner there but, when I went back for lunch a few months later to duplicate the entre, it was terrible, I didn't return until today because they had salmon benedict on the menu, and that was what we were craving. It wasn't properly prepared. It was served cold on a non-toasted English muffin with hash browns and arugula salad, which were good, but the eggs were miniscule and mushy - hard to even find the yolks. The chef clearly has no understanding of the dish. For drinks my Son had 2 mimosas, which he enjoyed, and I had a bloody mary with way too much horseradish. Whereas the restaurants on Columbus Avenue were crowded, this place was almost empty, which tells you something right there. We were there at prime brunch time. The bartender did his job, but seemed very uninterested beyond that point. We had a very difficult time getting his attention to get the check. There were no other customers at the bar, and he was busy cutting fruit. Someone needs to tell him that he needs to pay more attention to his customers. read more

Fried oyster over pickled jalapeños deviled egg had a bit too much mayo but was very fun to eat. I enjoyed the broccoli rabe although it was a little tough. I was not a fan of edamame dumplings though. The service was exceptional-polite, efficient even with just refilling your ice water and clearing your table of mess. Great spot especially for Happy Hour (only at the bar and the high tables.) Had 8 draft options that I took full advantage. They also had a creative Pineapple Moscow Mule that packed a punch. Was able to try a few things off the Happy Hour menu. All were solid. Surprised they had oysters (West and East) on the menu - they shucked beautifully and had all the condiment fixings. What a lovely experience! We had a group of 7 with two kids. We had reservations for a Saturday morning. We arrived early (before they were open) and Ken the host was so very nice and accommodating! He let us sit at a community table in the front and we played trivia games while we waited for them to open. Then he sat us before our reservation time and got us waters. All very nice! Pros: Everyone loved their meals The crispy thin fires! Areas for growth: The wait staff could have been a bit more attentive The menu differed from what came out. For example I got fries with my breakfast sandwich when I didn't know I would and someone else got a salad they didn't know they'd get. I might have gotten that meal instead had I known it came with salad. The cauliflower should be crispier We'll be back next time I'm in town and will try their dinner and cocktails! We had tickets for a show in the neighborhood and found this restaurant on OpenTable. We were not disappointed. We started with a spicy tuna roll. It was delicious. Very fresh. We shared a Barada over heirloom tomatoes. Also very good. I would've liked some salt or pepper, but they were not on the table. I then had the rotisserie chicken for dinner. Our server, whom was tremendous suggested either the fried chicken or rotisserie chicken. I selected the one that he has most often. We finished off the night with churros which were also very good. I came to The Ribbon in NYC to celebrate a friend's birthday and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience due to the service. One of the waiters overcharged me for a glass of wine. When I politely brought it to his attention, he returned and gave me a receipt with the correct price. I paid him for the drink and included the tip. Instead of responding professionally, he waved his hand dismissively in my face in a very disrespectful manner, threw the tip money down on the table and said I don't want your money. The behavior was shocking and completely inappropriate, especially in a restaurant of this caliber. Billing issues happen, but how they are handled matters and this was handled poorly. This kind of service is unacceptable and left a very negative impression on what should have been a celebratory evening. read more

I've eaten here more times than I can count--and I keep coming back for good reason! Sure, it helps that it's basically next door to me, but mostly, it's the consistently great experience that keeps me hooked. The service is always on point--everyone there is so warm and welcoming, and they're great about recommending dishes based on what you're in the mood for. The management team is incredibly attentive, too. They went above and beyond for my (fairly large) birthday dinner, making sure everyone was comfortable and that we had everything we needed. It's one of my favorite spots for a casual weekday happy hour with friends--the menu is fantastic, and they've even updated it recently. The martini is always served cold and crisp, the burger is a classic go-to, and honestly, I think I've had the sushi more than anything lately (yes, sushi--and yes, it's great!). Walk-ins have not really been a problem for me, but if you're rolling in with a group, definitely call ahead to make a reservation--it just makes things easier. The Ribbon used to be one of our favorites. However, they recently switched to beer glasses the size of small water glasses while increasing prices to the highest in the neighborhood. They also changed their menu including many Japanese food options which is just not their style and seems out of context. Personnel is very friendly and professional. My husband and I ate brunch here last Sunday and both got terrible food poisoning. I would not eat here. I was meeting a good friend on the upper west side and we intended to get a cocktail or 2 and then fine a good place for dinner. I wandered into the Ribbon because it seemed like s decent locals type pub to have a beer or 2 while my friend was on his way. What i discovered was so much more. Once he arrived and we checked out the menu we decide to grab a table there and have an appetizer, then go somewhere "nice" for dinner. We ordered a couple of sushi rolls which were unexpectedly awesome both in presentation and flavor. So we ordered on and had the Bao Bun tacos which were even better than the rolls. Okay so now we had two cultural delights, and both were as good as you can get, so let's take another step forward and order entrees. I ordered the prime Rib medium rare and my buddy ordered a filet mignon. My prime rib was perfect temperature and the sides were also spectacular . The waiter also suggested a very complimentary Paso Robles red wine to go along with our entrees. Being a Bordeaux, fan it was reminiscent of a fine Pomerol or St Julien. Side note we had been drinking a wonderful B&G Sancerre previous to this, which was also delicious. The place was hopping by this point and it just felt like a real comfortable neighborhood hang vibe, but with hidden gems on the menu. Normally I don't make it to dessert but we drank wine for a little while and enjoyed the ambiance, just people watching on the street and inside ,chatting up some of the local regulars and the staff, who made us feel like we were long time regulars as well. So, we got some recommendations for desert and settled on the 16 layer cake and Japanese cheesecake, and some cappuccinos. Even as full as i was the 16-layer cake didn't have a chance. Needless to say it was a really cool and unique dining experience, and we will certainly be back because we did not even get the chance to try the highly recommended Oyster options. It's a great spot to pop in for snacks like their deviled eggs or oysters. They're known for their fried chicken so of course the beau was all over that and it didn't disappoint. The oysters were Blue Point and the perfect size for this finicky oyster eater. I loved the big chunks of bacon in the wedge salad too. The vibe of this place is definitely strange, but could be overlooked. If you like a corporate-ish Cisco inspired menu then this is probably a great choice for you! It honestly wouldn't have been that bad if the price reflected the food, but sadly it's quite expensive for what's offered :(. Here's a picture of the steak, someone in my party said it should have been titled "Curb your dog". In a city known for its food like NYC, you'd probably have a better experience just walking down the block and going in the first place you see. What a great find! The food was was delicious and our waiter was great. We got braised short ribs which were tender and delicious, fried chicken which was so flavorful, and an enjoyable fried chicken sandwich. We had sides of mashed potatoes, french fries, and macaroni and cheese. So good! I can taste it again as I write this review. We were so pleasantly surprised as we were looking for an open restaurant around 8:30 pm. When I called, the hostess gave the impression that they were closing soon (although they close at 10:00 pm). We went anyway. The place was nearly empty when we arrived but we were welcomed in, so all worked out. I'd go back any day. read more
