Finally stopped into Harvest Kitchen to have a bite. Every time I pass by it's always busy and bustling and the plates I spy look fresh and colorful and tasty. I'm glad to have paused long enough on a recent visit to the UWS to sit down for a meal while showing my middle.school bestie around the city during her vacation here. We were seated immediately since it was not a standard meal time, around 2pm. The restauant was still pretty full even at this odd time. We sat outdoors because it was sunny and bright there, while indoors it was dark but cool on this very hot day. Our server Alberto was clearly a pro. Went for a 5:00 reservation for 3 people. The waiter who seated us seemed put off from the get go, but maybe he was just having a day or something else. Then another server came to take our meal orders who was much better, more jovial and just overall better mood and we loved him but unfortunately he must have left at some point, maybe shift change. Appetizer came out and then food by a food runner. Food and drinks were all really good. Loved it. But then not checked on until we were pretty much finished with our meals if we wanted refills on drinks. If you don't want attention from waiters, then I suggest coming here. Though is tasted good, it was a little bit too sweet for our palate. 4 Stars- The classic burger and bacon cheeseburger was topped with lettuce, tomato, pickles, guacamole, and grilled onions. Burgers were juicy and moist, but the show was grilled onions. Sauté perfectly and has nice sweet flavor to them. 5 Stars - The Fries were the bomb! Double-fried in the cooler to get the balance crunchy texture and was seasoned with just enough sea salt. We could have eaten a platter of fries by itself. Definitely recommend the place. First course: salad for everyone; It was fresh and well seasoned. second course: I had the fried calamari; the batter was thick and less flaky than I would have liked; my family had the bacon wrapped dates and they liked it. Third course: I had the salmon and sautéed veggies; salmon was cooked perfectly and the veggies were good. My family had the turkey and they said it was too dry and the gravy was thin. This was the second year we have had Thanksgiving dinner here. The turkey was better last year. Fourth course: my family enjoyed the apple pie and pecan pie . I liked my berries with whipped cream. First, the server had great recommendations on menu items that fit with our interests. I had the chicken cooked under a brick, it was possibly the best chicken I've had. Our party started with the Brussels sprouts, which were great. I tasted the burger and it was very good, too. Service was attentive and the owner stopped by to check on us several times. Second, on the weekend they have a small group of protestors arguing that a former employee was unfairly terminated years ago. We looked into it and the courts have weighed the evidence and found no case. We then had no problem dining here. Don't be dissuaded, the ambiance and food were well worth the dilemma. Nice American brunch spot offering lots of classic options along with a bunch of alcoholic (and some non-alcoholic) beverages. I ordered the Caramelized Banana French Toast ($16), which was delicious. It came with three slices of house-made cinnamon toast, with caramelized bananas and caramel sauce on top. While this was quite a simple dish, it was made well. The toast was very soft and the caramel sauce was sweet but not too sweet. I do think that for the price, it would've been nice if they gave another slice of toast or had something else on there though. I also tried the Bacon Benedict ($18), which was a high quality version of this classic brunch dish with a tasty thick cut of bacon and side salad. The eggs were nicely poached and the English muffins were the proper softness. To drink, I got a Strawberry Fields mocktail ($8.50). This had real strawberry pieces in it to give a real strawberry flavor, along with some lemon and honey for a touch of sourness/sweetness, and the fresh basil added a hint of refreshing flavor to the drink. The fizzy soda added further to the refreshing nature of this non-alcoholic brunch beverage. The interior of this restaurant is decorated like a standard nice American brunch spot with white tablecloths and a bright and lively environment. They have a bar area as well as quite a lot of table seating. It was rather busy for Sunday brunch when we were there (we got a reservation the day before). The staff are friendly and attentive. The service speed is pretty fast. I will note that the prices shown on my bill were actually a couple bucks lower than what was on the menu, which was strange. Overall, while I don't think Harvest Kitchen had anything particularly special to warrant 5 stars, it definitely earns a solid 4 stars from me. If you are looking for a quality classic American brunch place in the Upper West Side, I would definitely recommend coming to Harvest Kitchen. read more

The huevos rancheros was a bit sad without much flavor. The black beans soaked the fried tortilla and it wasn't not warm to begin with. It comes with a salad in the middle which is fresh and plain. This restaurant doesn't look like much when you walk in, but I literally felt transported once we were inside. It felt like a place where you want to sit down and gossip with friends for hours and the staff would welcome it. Definite Sunday brunch, catch up with friends vibe. Every single person we interacted with from beginning to end was the absolute best. The guac was talked up as the fourth best in the country in HuffPost as we were led to our seats and our water cups were never empty. I love that they put their famous guac to include in all of the burgers which makes them stand out. The guac is definitely amazing-- it's lime forward and filled with flavor. We're not sure about fourth best in the country, but it was pretty good guys. I really liked my crispy chicken burger-- the crisp on the chicken absolutely came through. It was a bit messy eating it, as the guac and the onions fall out of the burger real fast, but such is the life of burger eating. Also shout out to the fact that they toasted their buns! It's the little things. They have a variety of non alcoholic drinks which was a delight to see on the menu. They had a bunch of different flavors of lemonade, and I settled on the passionfruit which was amazing. I will say that it was $7, which is on the high end, but the brightness of all of their drinks simply add to the vibe. We happened in on a damp Thursday afternoon, looking for a light lunch and libations. We sat at the bar and our bartender, Armando, made us feel like family from the moment we settled on the stools. He made suggestions, had answers to our questions. Always had a warm smile and ready quip. We enjoyed the food. It was well prepared and served hot. The soup of the day was a chicken vegetable and the broth was clear and delicious with lots of shredded chicken and the vegetables were fresh and cooked to perfection, not mushy. Fries were crisp, and we had never had anything like the charred broccoli. For dessert Armando suggested a dessert liqueur we'd not discovered, Amarula creme, from Africa. I liked that we weren't rushed to order or to eat, but the server was attentive, refilling our water glasses, etc. We ordered the classic burgers (it came with fries). This place fits the bill with a solid enclosure out front and plenty of seating as well. Started off with the Guacamole ($13) - chunky and not overly citrus or salty. Served alongside some thick cut tortilla chips. For the main course, ordered the Brick Chicken ($26) - lemon and thyme braised, with sides of corn/zucchini succotash and a gnocchi square. Chicken was made perfectly, not lime forward but marinated well. The gnocchi square was a first and tasted amazing, like a softer cornbread. Succotash is a nice respite in between.
