This is the place you go to if you're hungry and don't have any other options. I ordered huevos rancheros and a matcha latte. I'm not sure what they think huevos rancheros are, but what they served me had no flavor and was a sorry attempt. The matcha latte didn't taste good and honestly made my stomach hurt. I should've known by the way the cashier pronounced "Hhhuevos" I should've ordered something else. If you're a stoner and don't mind it smelling like weed, then the atmosphere isn't too bad. read more

This is one of those places. Small town cafes can go either way. If you're lucky, you'll find a gem and if not (insert poop emoji). The Ridge cafe was in the former category. The place was quaint in a very small town. On the inside, paintings and other interesting art scattered the walls, a few tables and a restroom with a fun bathtub garden. The display case at the front counter (where are you order food) featured some appetizing grab and go treats and bites such as peaches and cream muffins, various cookies, lemon bars, potato and a curry chicken salad. The woman at the counter was friendly and helpful with her recommendations. I had the NSJ Panini which was very tasty, it came with fries and coleslaw. I enjoyed everything. I ordered the lemon bar which was ok, a little tackier (sticky) than what I prefer but the flavor was nice. I was impressed by all of the smoothie and juice selections. They looked, well crafted and inviting. The next time I find myself in the area, I will definitely return for one of the salads and a smoothie! read more

Very cool spot! I love all the art and eccentric atmosphere! The tub in the bathroom filled with soil and plants is definitely interesting. This home was converted to a restaurant. I love it because it's homey and the backyard seating is refreshing, relaxing, and peaceful. Amazing customer service and food. Clean environment. I can't wait to try more. Cute cute cute country place. They have so many great choices for drinks. Both my kids loved their chocolate and mocha milkshakes; I must admit, I tested both out and they were so rich and creamy. My iced latte was perfect, nice and strong but not over powering. The nearest grocery is far away so they have a pantry-like back wall and refrigerated section with a small variety food and drink essentials. I love to people watch; a few little tables lined the front where some locals were enjoying their lunch (big burgers) while puffing on some ganja. Straight hippy place, happy place! read more

I was driving through the area to check out some camping and I spoke to Abby on the phone for further information. I stopped here and had breakfast. The people were very nice. It wasn't terribly busy at 10 o'clock on a Sunday morning. They had a nice little garden area out back, where I sat and ate and drank some, great coffee. Breakfast items come à la cart so you can taylor your meal to your liking. I had ham and scrambled eggs with potatoes. Food was good and it came out quickly. read more

Fantastic and super friendly cafe sort of in the middle of nowhere. If you find yourself on 49 heading north from Nevada City, it's close by. On the outside it's tired and weathered but on the inside it's warm and friendly. And the food was excellent, far exceeding all expectations. Always friendly down to earth people! Fantastic service... The vibes are definitely relaxed, outdoor seating available. We have never been disappointed been stopping here now for 4 years - can't say enough about the quiche! Delicious!! Very quirky. The community is a character in itself. This place is in a house on the main street through the community. The clientele is mostly locals. Staff is polite and the food is actually good. WE got the French toast and the special of blueberry pancakes. read more

Soooooooo I'm not gonna lie this place is popular but I'm in impressed. It's kind of a homey feel very small and quaint. Slightly on the expensive side but it is in the middle of nowhere so I get it . I was thoroughly enjoying my food right up until I found a hair in it, 3 bites into my meal!!!!! Fuckin gross! Obviously they offered to remake it. But What a way to ruin a good meal. I have to go with 3 stars mainly because they seriously need to de-web and clean that place badly!!!! Also cuz of the hair and the fact that I gave them $100 and my total came to $16.30 and she only gave me $80 back Smdh this was kind of a fail all around. The Ridge is an interesting place in a little town that you would probably pass right through without even noticing it existed if you weren't looking for it for some reason. The staff was super friendly and the menu was full of great homemade items for breakfast and lunch. Many of which are organic and local. Breakfast was good and fresh and the toast came with what had to be house made jam. Price was reasonable for a small town shop and the food came out quickly. Chances are, you will never get the opportunity to eat or get a cup of coffee here because if its location. But if you are headed through and hungry, dont be afraid to stop in. read more

My husband and I were in the area for a day hike, and decided to stop at this cafe for lunch. I read previous reviews and looked at the menu in order to make my decision. It exceeded my expectations! The service was above and beyond ,and done with a smile and friendly attitude. I had a matcha latte which was quite yummy, a wonderful chicken, rice, and veggie bowl , and my husband had the Gracie panini which had pesto, chicken, bacon, and lots of veggies on it. There are many vegetarian options as well. All the food was top notch, and they have a very cute outdoor area. In my opinion, this place is the heart of North San Juan. I have always stopped by this hidden gem on my way to Tahoe. The new owners are locals and great people, which makes supporting the business even more fun. The front patio is extremely relaxing and you can typically see a local farmstead selling fresh fruit and vegetables across the road. The back patio is quieter and away from the small amount of hustle and bustle on highway 49. The food is all made from scratch, great vegan options if you need that, and the smoothies are always great (Yuba Gold is my favorite). Today I got the Monte Cristo, which was just perfect. My fiancée got the biscuits and sausage gravy, which had fresh chives and tons of gravy. Both great options. They serve lunch options (burgers, deli sandwiches, etc), but breakfast is my favorite. Do yourself a favor and pull off the road and enjoy this gift to the Ridge community. Afterward, take a stroll past the tiny stores next door and see the historic brass rail bar. The Ridge Cafe serves people from all walks of life. It's is a cozy cafe in a house-like setting with a white picket fence. One immediately feels inner calm in its lush gardens with patio seating as musicians strum their guitar and hippies playing chess abound. I've made it tradition to find the garden Buddha, leave change, rub its belly and make a wish. The staff are super friendly and go out of their way to make sure my meal is to my complete satisfaction. Each time I have come here I ordered something different to try and was not ever disappointed. The food is exceptionally delicious and organic. The ranchero burrito was HUGE; stuffed with potatoes, spinach, salsa, chicken, eggs, avocado, sour cream and Salsa verde. Everytime I visit Yuba City National Park, I always grab lunch at the Ridge Cafe. My adventure definitely starts here!! read more

I have been going here for years and it is had it's ups and downs. Definitely an important piece of North San Juan. There's almost always somebody at the front counter taking up line space talking to the employees and the last time I went in there I tried to buy coffee beans and they were dated a month old and the bag felt moist and gritty which I'd never experienced before. the woman behind the counter said they were new. When I pointed out that they were a month old she said that wasn't that long. If you can get past the over relaxed atmosphere which is admittedly a part of its charm, the food is usually good if not a bit expensive and the outside space alone is worth going to sit in and appreciate and you always meet or at least overhear someone interesting. Very unique atmosphere but truly a Ridge institution. In more ways than one. read more

This coffee shop was very charming and cute! I drove from Sacramento to get away from the city and one of the main purposes was to get some inspiration to write music. Coincidentally, Ridge has a piano, three guitars, and one banjo in the back! I ended up playing some guitar, then I met someone with whom I chatted for more than an hour. The honey lavender latte was delicious! I got one for my stay there then another one to go. I also ordered the biscuits and gravy with sausage which didn't have much sausage in it. Very cute and eclectic cafe painted a cheery yellow with a little white picket fence and a few tables in front where you can sit and watch the occasional 4 x 4 go by, or a local strolling by. Inside is original artwork, a warren of small rooms, each painted in bright colors, and a few tables. The furthest room has a selection of instruments to play in the back including a piano and a banjo. As the kids toys are next to the piano, I'm not sure if it is to encourage children to play with them or it's just where they ended up but, with the comfy small couches, it's definitely a friendly and convivial place for adults and children. Not knowing if they do this or not, I think a weekly storytelling hour would be great, especially if done by 2 people, one being a musician to accompany the stories. The food is all locally sourced and organic as far as I can tell and they offer a selection of bowls, wraps, tacos, salads, sandwiches, and great coffee including espresso drinks! Vegan and vegetarian friendly too:-) I met Sarah who is the new owner with a partner and she is very charming and gracious so I hope she does well enough to stay in business. I came here multiple times to chill and use wifi during my stay with family this summer and it reminded me so much of a funky cafe you would find on the Big Island where I was visiting from. Super homey and the staff is great. The smoothies are soo delicious, I tried almost every single one. They could definitely benefit from a few more vegan options on the menu. What a treasure! This cute, funky, happy, delicious café is situated on Hwy 49 between Nevada City and Camptonville. It is co-owned by two young women who are dedicated to creating everything totally organic. The food is creative and delicious. The baking is amazing. Chicken Curry Pasties, Coconut Macaroons, Chocolate Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Chocolate Chip centers. Turnovers filled with Raspberry Cream Cheese or Ginger Pear Cream Cheese, or Blueberries, Blackberries, Persimmons, etc. And the pies! There is a wonderful music room and a lovely enclosed patio garden. Of course it's a must-stop if traveling Hwy 49, but making a special trip should definitely be considered. When I was there, I saw a napkin on the bulletin board - on it was written "I've traveled the world over and never tasted a better cheesecake". Absolutely no surprise there. read more
