Stayed here for five nights while attending a conference and conducting fieldwork around Manhattan. I was attracted to the price and location -- a short-ish walk to NYU, great food nearby, and in the Lower East Side/Bowery areas? I was sold. We arrived after a really long day of travel and received all of our access information on time, which was much appreciated and eliminated a long check-in process. Snacks in the lobby, a rooftop area with a gorgeous view, and a coffee machine, microwave, and mini fridge. Great! Unfortunately, that's where the good stuff ends. Room was an appropriate size for the location and price, but I was extremely disappointed to find that the king sized bed was rickety and unstable, so much so that any bodily move would wake up my spouse. The bed was NOT covered with any sort of mattress protector; just standard sheets, which was concerning for a second-floor room in Manhattan. The bed was also extremely uncomfortable and created a flare of back pain for me. I always risk this when I travel, but this only flares up when beds are not great. This bed was not great. The bedside wall-affixed lamps were barely secured to the wall and could not turn on individually, leaving us to go all-or-nothing with lighting in the bedroom area. There was also a strange semi-frosted window between the bathroom and bedroom areas that was only covered by a shelving unit. Mini fridge works, but microwave was not plugged in (??) and heated my food very weirdly. The bathroom was...fine? Low water pressure (fine, not unexpected for the price), and there was a weird piece of solid gunk in the sink before either of us used the bathroom. BUT...no washcloths. Frankly, I expected better, and I didn't even know who to talk to about the washcloths because the front desk is semi-virtual (I.e., there's not always somebody at the desk). You're also expected to go without any sort of cleaning for your stay (if requested, it's $35), and you're required to take out your own garbage. Lastly, I should note that, in addition to the rickety bed frame, you can hear a pin drop in the hallway or upstairs (and we literally heard every single noise). Numerous times, I heard what I thought was my wife asking me a question only to learn that it was someone else having a conversation in the hallway. Zero soundproofing. I do not recommend this hotel for anyone with back pain, wanting to have sex without waking neighbors with the loud bed frame, or looking for true comfort during their stay in Manhattan. My go to every year hotel. Everything is great. The hotel, staff, and location. My husband and I stay here every September for 10 days. Its perfect for us. Clean, ac, tv, fridge, microwave. Clean and comfortable. Jasmine at the front desk has helped us for several years now. She is helpful, friendly, and knows her stuff. The Ridge has a wonderful rooftop too. We take our coffee up there every morning. Great view of all parts of the city. Empire state building, the freedom tower, and the Edge. Beautiful. Nearby is a drugstore, a whole foods, and every food place you could want. I've sent many of my friends here over the years. They all love the hotel as well. Thanks Ridge!! The WORST hotel experience I have ever had. The Ridge hotel is an absolute scam. I booked and paid for a king-sized room, and after traveling 12 hours, they overbooked and tried to sneak me into a tiny, filthy double room without saying a word. The room was so cramped you could barely walk around the bed, it was dirty, and it looked nothing like the photos advertised. When I confronted the front desk that it clearly wasn't the King room we purchased, they admitted the lie and promised a refund. We had no choice but to accept the tiny room, or sleep on the street. I showed them grace and trusted that the refund (at least for the difference in rooms) would come, but it didn't. For almost two months, the owner dodged my calls and refused to take responsibility. I was finally forced to go through Expedia just to claw back a partial refund, because the hotel itself did absolutely nothing. This was no more than a bait and switch scam. The Ridge Hotel is dishonest, dirty, and run by people who have no respect for their guests. Stay literally anywhere else! read more

If you're desperate for a hotel room on the lower east side, The Ridge is ok. Its location is decent since it's near some very popular eateries: Katz's and Russ & Daughters. Otherwise, I wouldn't really recommend this establishment. There was a marathon going on this past weekend and many hotels happened to have inflated rates and The Ridge just happened to be not as expensive. This hotel is very bare bones, no fancy amenities, no concierge, no luxury. The rooms are very small. My room fit a queen sized bed, two Ikea night stands (REAL Ikea furniture), a wardrobe that was tall enough to fit an ironing board, small safe, and 3 hangers to hang some clothes. The bathroom is small enough that you have to maneuver yourself to allow the door to open all the way or to get out of the bathroom after using the sink. I can't say the room was filthy upon checking in, but it also didn't feel like there was attention to detail. The rooms have paper thin walls and doors and everything kind of echoes. The street noise is constant with sirens, cars honking, scooters with loud motors, and loud people. The rooms are hot and the thermostats inoperable. The room temperature hovered around 78F degrees. The biggest pro about this property is that the view from the roof is nice. read more

When something deserves zero stars but the rating system only goes down to 1 star. $300 per night and the bathroom is dirty, the a/c in the room smells so bad. The room is kinda tiny, i can't even open my suitcase. They don't have spaces in the bathroom for you to put all your stuff like toothbrush, toothpaste, makeup.....no cups for you to use to brush your teeth. Literally nothing. It's worth noting that it has more of an Airbnb vibe than a typical hotel, as it doesn't offer certain amenities such as luggage storage or daily room cleaning. It's a great deal with the price. Location is fantastic- it's on Manhattan island and close to soho so you really get a good feel of the city vibes. Staff most of the time was very nice and friendly. When I first checked in there were nobody at the front and had to call .. and there were some issues with the emails they sent me which had checkin information which is frustrating. The bed and the bathroom were pretty clean, the floor however is pretty dirty. It's nice they have fridge and microwave! Stayed at The ridge for 5 days recently. Overall, I had a good experience. Pros: price- considering its location and How expensive the city is. The hotel room was clean and maintained. Lots of attractions , food, and coffee shops near by. Subway station is walking distance away. Good sized restroom (twin bed set up). Cons: they have what they call a "virtual" front desk where you either have to call/ text a number to get ahold of someone. Because of this I wasnt able to get a package delivered from amazon. Walls are very thin. The rooftop balcony area does not get good wifi signal. The room itself overall was small (twin bed set up). Overall, a decent find- especially on a budget. read more

I recently stayed at The Ridge for 2 nights. I booked the hotel through Agoda with a special sale so the price was great. The hotel had virtual check in so you filled out the necessary paperwork online. They then emailed me with a code to get in the front door, and also a code to get into my room. Each room has its own keycode on it. There was nobody at the front desk throughout my stay, you must call a number if you need any assistance. The hotel itself was clean, and small. The walls were pretty thin so it was easy to hear your neighbors. The room itself was small, as expected but comfortable. The bathroom was larger then expected. The area the hotel is in is a great area, and within walking distance to many restaurants and Soho. read more

You have to get your own towels and throw out your garbage. As a frequent New York traveler, I can be very happy to have found this hotel. I passed by it a bunch of times and always loved the location but was afraid to book as I figured the rooms would be small. For a trip with a friend, it's always a challenge to find a room with two beds. The Ridge Hotel offered a solution for that by offering two twin beds. Not ideal, but definitely a great stay and nights sleep. The room is small, but when you are in New York, you can't expect too much. The bathroom was more than spacious and the linen provided were very nice but they'll need consistency in the design. In case the front desk doesn't mention upon check in like they did with us, there a basement with snacks and drinks and hangout area which is pretty sweet to have. Also, the rooftop offers some great views to hang out, make sure to BYOB The reason why I only give four stars is because housekeeping was loud in front of our door every morning at 7:30 although we had the "don't disturb"-sign out, which also means be quiet. And the fact that their was an AC control in the room that didn't work because they turn off the control in the room over winter. Our room, with window open reached a temperature of 78. read more

I am struggling to find positive things to say. There is absolutely NO way to justify the price of this hotel. It was $300 for one night with ZERO amenities. My room was small and smelled strongly of BO when we walked in. The layout is preposterous there is no way to fit clothes or bags with such a poorly designed floor plan. There is no shampoo or conditioner in the shower, just body wash that smells like pepper for some reason. I could MAYBE justify these things if the customer service here was good but that would be impossible because there is no front desk!!! You are emailed a front door code and a room code to get in and if something happens there is nothing and no one in the lobby to help. I have stayed in a few hostels for 20$ a night when I backpacked Europe and they were quite literally identical or BETTER than this $300 hotel. There is NOTHING here that would justify the price. This hotel made our NYC even better! As soon we arrived we were greeted by the amazing hotel staff! They were very helpful with giving us recommendations, directions, and tips about NYC! They even helped us book a car back to the airport which was amazing. We checked in and dropped off our bags off in the room. The room was a lot bigger than we thought which was a plus. We even each got our own beds which was nice. The room was very clean with comfy beds and an amazing shower! The elevator was super quick too which was a plus. They even have a place for free water, coffee, and muffins which was so convenient! The rooftop was amazing so don't forget to check it out!! Even though it was cold we had to check out the view and it was incredible!! In the summertime this would be an awesome spot to have a few drinks. This location is amazing! There is so much to see around here and so close the subway! For the price, service, and location this is my new favorite spot to stay in this area of NYC! :) I can't wait to come back again soon! read more

We stayed at this place because it's close to our daughter and the price. We knew going in it's by no means a 5 star hotel. So don't expect anything special. It's very small and good for a couple. All workers were very friendly. The cellar and rooftop are nice perks to hang out at. Cellar was nice cuz it has ice and cold and hot water. Know there's not always a worker at the front desk but if something is needed they usually answer the phone when called. My only issue is our keypad was janky then it just stopped working after 2 days. Which was fine cuz we just used a key the rest of the time. Our room was off the Main Street and was quiet at night. AC worked great in room. I would stay here again. There's a coffee pot in room but not a lot of counter space for it. There is coffee in lobby. Floors were a bit dirty so bring slippers or flip flops but IMO that's standard for hotel rooms. read more

Quick review here. Excellent surrounding location and a fairly safe area to walk around solo at night was my observation. As stated, the basic room is a closet. Just enough room to cram in a full bed, a couple nightstands and a portable closet and mounted TV. Limited cable, but HBO was a plus and the WiFi connection was excellent. Very friendly from the greeter at the door, to the desk help. Kind to bring me a wine glass so I could enjoy a craft beer on the rooftop terrace (see pics). Very reasonable price, but would not spend more than a couple hours in my room due to the space. Will pay a bit more to see what a large room offers. read more

Anyone that's traveled to NYC knows that it's not the cheapest place to get a room. I decided to alleviate a little bit of the cost with some points I was hoarding from a hotel booking site. Even though I had lots of points, it was still nearly impossible to find a decent hotel for three nights without shelling out a few hundred dollars. After weighing cost and value (determined by Yelp, of course!), we ended up at The Ridge. Probably the main selling point? It's a block from Katz Deli! But really though, the location is great if you want to spend time in the Lower East Side/East Village, which happens to be where my friends live and hang. There's also subway stops nearby so you can get around the city rather easily. I'll admit I wasn't enthused when I walked into my room. It's small which I was expecting; however, it just wasn't in the best shape. The chair was tattered, there were weird stains at the top of the headboard, the shower had the old logo of the hotel partly torn off, bathroom products were all sorts of different brands, and so on. That all being said, over the course of three nights, I got over it and it ended up ok. The bed was actually pretty comfy and we were out most of the day and exhausted by the time we came home. The TV had decent channels and the wifi worked well. The rooftop is nice but not the "bar" it once was. You are invited to hang out up there though. There's also a basement level with more tables, chairs, and amenities like water and a coffee machine. Everyone we encountered at the front desk was very friendly which is a plus, too! Overall, it worked out. Would I shell out $230 a night though? Probably not. read more

If you are pressed for time, here is a summary. The full description appears below. Summary: I have four major complaints, each of which is independently reason enough to never stay at The Ridge again. 1 - A Standard Double on Booking.com claims to be 200 square feet, 50% more than the actual area of 130 square feet. I verified this with a measuring tape. 200 square feet is not a rounding error, it is fraud. 2 - When I called to ask for a room that was closer to the advertised size, I was moved to a room that was exactly the same size. 3 - Only by running an air conditioning unit 24 hours a day was I able to get the room down to the lower 70's - while the temperature ranged from 42 to 55 degrees outside. Once the temperature hit 86 degrees. 4 - The bed was so hard, I had to put an inflatable pillow under my hip bone to sleep on my side. The full version: While not an entirely negative experience (the Ridge was clean and recently renovated), there are four major issues I experienced, each of which independently reason enough to never stay there again. I stayed at the Ridge Hotel October 16th-20th, 2022. When I arrived for my Standard Double room reserved through Booking.com (in Ridge terminology, it is a "Full" room), it became immediately obvious that the room was smaller than advertised. I later confirmed with a tape measure that the room was 134 square feet - not the 200 square feet listed on Booking.com. The room's advertised size was 50% larger than the actual size. This is not a rounding error; it is fraud! (Reason #1) The total area includes shower, toilet, bed, etc., by the way, not just space to move around. Walking space, including in the bathroom, is about 60-65 square feet I don't mind living like I'm on a boat, where every inch counts, as long as I know ahead of time and pay a price that reflects the size of room. But I overpaid and would not have reserved the room if I had known its true size. By the way, all the Ridge rooms - full, queen, and king rooms - are listed at Booking.com as being 200 square feet. I saw a queen size room and it is definitely bigger than a full size. A queen or king size bed would never fit in a full-size room. When I called the hotel (there are no live people; the hotel provides "touchless" service) to point out the discrepancy between actual and stated size, I asked if I could move to a room that was closer to the advertised 200 square feet. The employee agreed to move me the next day. So, I packed up the next morning and left my things to be transferred to a new room - which turned out to be exactly same size! (Reason #2) Cluelessness? Passive aggression? I don't know. When I called back to inquire, I was informed there were no other room available all week, so there was nothing they could do. The new room was actually worse than the original. It was slightly smaller (128 square feet) and the bed was so hard, I had to put an inflatable pillow under my hip bone to sleep on my side. (Reason #3) The first room got too hot (77 degrees); however, the new room was hotter. I woke up sweating at 2:30 am to blasting hot air and a temperature of 86 degrees and rising! (Reason #4) I had set the thermostat on "Cool" earlier in the evening and that did not seem to do anything, so I set the thermostat on "Fan Only" before I went to bed, thinking I would at least have some neutral air circulation. No such luck. I managed to turn the thermostat to "system off" - deactivating the heating, cooling, and fan- and I turned on a window air conditioning unit, which I was fortunate to have (most rooms don't have it). In the next 8 hours, I was able to bring the room down to 72 degrees. All this occurred while the temperature outside was 48-54 degrees. I kept the A/C on for the rest of my stay and I was able to get the temperature down to 68 degrees once, but only for a few hours, then it was back up to the mid-70's. Outside, the temperature never got above 55 degrees during my stay. If the room overheats that badly in the fall, what would it be like in the summer? I will never find out and I recommend you don't try to find out either! I could go on about lower-priority complaints, like the tedious online check-in process, lack of table and chair (though "all rooms have them", I was told on the phone), harsh lighting, lack of decaf coffee, inconvenient outlets, and cheap construction, but none of these were deal-breakers like the four issues described above. When in NYC, find yourself an ethically run hotel that covers all the basics and delivers on its promises - not The Ridge! read more

I need to update my previous review since I no longer consider this place reasonably priced. Room rates have more than doubled (nearly tripled) since I stayed here last, and instead of feeling like you got a decent room at a good rate, you are going to feel ripped off. Also, beware of rooms that are on the west side of the building. The ridiculous noise from the Rumpus Room on Eldridge St will keep you up all night. Even with the windows closed. read more

We booked here since our place is crowded, the hotel was having a deal, and this place is close to our daily routine. We also did a little research, and most of the recent comments from Trip Advisor and Booking said positive things. We can't believe our recent experience got worse! I used to stay at The Ridge before the pandemic, and everything about my experience this time around was pretty terrible. From the very sketchy texts about paying in cash to the uneven check-in process; no heads-up that this was a "contactless" hotel and so no one was going to be at the front desk; the fact that I had to scan my credit card and drivers license several times to an app they required before check in for what reasons I have no idea; the difficulty in getting into the hotel, and into my room; the noisy-ness throughout the night; the fact that I had to pretty much move all of the furniture to get to outlets to charge my devices; that the TV didn't work (no signal, and when I called the front desk, they said they could send someone in the morning)...... it was all just awful. I had an overall horrible experience at this hotel. 1. The hotel website states every king size room has a plush pillow top mattress. Not true at all, our mattress was in no way plush and did not have a pillow top. I know because I unzipped the mattress protector and looked, I could also feel the springs being shoved into my back all night. 2. The AC did not work, normally in January in NYC this isn't an issue, but oddly the temp was mid 60's and our room thermostat read 78, we turned the AC to 70 on cool setting and it continuously blew hot air and brought the room up to 80 degrees. When I told the front desk they said just open the window. I'm sorry, I'm not going to sleep with the window open on a busy street in NYC on a weekend night. We later requested after someone attempted to fix the AC to switch rooms as it was uncomfortable to be sleeping in an 80 Degrees room. The lady at the front desk said yes of course and told us to go ahead and pack our things and when we come back that evening the front desk would have the keys to our new room. When we returned around 6pm, we informed the man at the front desk, he said no we don't do change rooms! I only work here part time so idk! He was rude and clueless. The houseman "maintenance" came up and offered to check our AC, so we go to the room and all of our stuff is gone. We ask where is our stuff? He had no idea. The house keeper in the hallway overheard our convo and told us she moved all of our stuff to another room. We then were taken to the new room. But big surprise the AC still did not work. The houseman set it to the lowest possible cool setting and locked the thermostat with a lock box. The room went up to 78 degrees and we couldn't even adjust the thermostat because it's locked behind a plastic box. 3. Lastly, the rooms are extremely small, there's hardly any room to put a small suitcase, and to navigate around the edge of the bed. The walls and doors are paper thin, you can hear every detail of every convo, every fart, cough, and burp from next door, and there's constant doors slamming at all times. read more

Okay this hotel is one of the cleanest hotels I have ever stayed in, but that is the only reason for the four stars. We arrived and they allowed us to check our bags in and we were told that check in was at three. We left and went to explore the city. It is in a great location if you are going to see a show at the Orpheum Theater, but for sightseeing I would choose something closer to the center of town. We arrived back at the hotel to check in at 3pm and were told there was a delay in housekeeping and that our room would be ready in about 20 minutes. They told us that their were snacks and complimentary beverages downstairs. We went down and waited for our room to be prepped. Twenty minutes turned into an hour. When they finally came and got us we were given our room key and went to check out our room. It is one of the tiniest rooms I had ever been in in my life. It was fine for the night, but there was no where to sit except for one plastic chair in the corner. We had bunk beds which we were hesitant about, but from the pictures online looked manageable for a night. The bunk bed was nothing like the one pictured online. See the pictures below for an accurate portrayal. It was kid sized and the clearance between the beds was a whooping 20"...no lie I measured it. I couldn't see sit straight up because there was not enough room. The other downside was they had a lockbox over the thermostat. Our temperature was set at 73 which we thought was reasonable, but it was clear pretty quickly that something was wrong because when we returned from our show the actual temperature registered as 69 degrees. It was 32 degrees outside so to come back to a room that cold was not comfortable whatsoever. We climbed into our bed in full clothes and slept as well as we could considering how cold it was. The bed was fairly comfortable considering it was the tiniest bunk beds I had ever seen. We expressed to the front desk how cold our room was and that late check in was frustrating. She apologized and said she would past it on. I am not sure whether that will actually happen or not, but overall if you need a clean place to lay your head for a night or two this is the place to do it, but beware if you are disoriented in the middle of the night you may walk away with a concussion because you will most definitely bang your head. read more

I want to preface this review with stating the hotel manager, Victor, was incredible and went out of his way to make my stay more accommodating and comfortable. His presence, ethic, and behavior deserves a five star review, but Yelp isn't for managers, it's for establishments. The Ridge may not be the worst hotel, but it certainly isn't the best. This would not be a problem, if not for the false advertising disseminated by the company. Both its official website and hotels.com page showcase photos of what appear to be 4-star level bedrooms. However, the room I was initially checked into looked like it belonged in a seedy motel from a '90s network T.V. show: large brown stains on the upholstered headboard, chipped and cracked wooden furniture and wall frames, gaps where the floor meets the wall, and old, unnerving wallpaper. Alright, so that last one may just be personal aggravation, but it compounds with the other issues to create one miserable room fit for the side of a Stephen King thriller road. Thankfully, I didn't have to sleep in it. I called to express concern, and the hotel staff quickly sent the manager up to inspect my room. Victor immediately agreed its condition wasn't acceptable. He apologized and explained the hotel was in a period of transition and some rooms had yet to be renovated. My room happened to be one of them. He offered two options: a newly renovated room on a floor that was in the midst of construction, or a room upgrade on the ground floor. I chose the ground floor room; it was quite comfortable and very spacious. Though, the quality still fell short of The Ridge's advertising--the floor still had deep gaps where it didn't meet the wall, which makes any New Yorker (or someone who spends a lot of time in the city) wonder what small, multi-legged hell might emerge from those gaps at night. I didn't see any critters, but I did my best not to look for them. Aside from The Ridge's condition, as others have stated the location is PERFECT! I'm an LES, Chinatown, and East Village lover, so it is positioned perfectly--also a 30 second drive from the Williamsburg bridge, which I did have to cross several times during my stay. The staff, from the cleaning people to the front desk, were kind and helpful. The only exception was the one female concierge who had a disinterested tone and was not as competent as her fellow employees. If this place is now completely renovated, I would recommend it to someone looking for a convenient place to stay without destroying her/his wallet. I would also recommend it--if completely renovated--to someone on a budget who also needs a place that can accommodate a down feather allergy and provide a personal fridge. read more

I had previously stayed at this location in its previous incarnation. What a pleasant surprise to find a new group has bought the building and is doing a terrific job renovating the place. The rooms feel new; furniture, beds, bathrooms. You expect tight rooms in NYC, but as long as they're clean and fresh looking it's a place to sleep right? The bed being the operative thing here and this one was absolutely great. All the staff are super friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. Pulling up to the building, it's hard to tell it's a hotel, which I kinda think is cool. Given the new hospitality group is really putting an effort into upgrading the hotel I expect there might be proper exterior signage in their plans. No matter, it's what's inside that counts. The location is fantastic, 100 steps - turn the corner and there is an F stop. With the F you can get over to the 6 or 1,2,3 - A,C,E. I went all over the city without any trouble. Didn't need to hail a car once. The LES neighborhood is really coming along, lots of new galleries, shops and eateries. I'll definitely be back here. read more

All you get is a bed, bathroom and wifi. If that is what you are looking for then this is your place. There is no one at the front desk to answer or assist with any issues. Our room was over 75 degrees. It was so hot and uncomfortable. The temperature controls didn't work. We were on the ground floor and couldn't leave the windows open when we left the room for safely reasons. We were next to the inside door. Anytime someone went through the door it slammed shut. ALL NIGHT LONG. If you needed towels then you had to go and get them. There was no place to put your personal items (shampoo or cleanser) in the shower. I'm not sure why the cost of the room was so high and why we paid a cleaning fee per night when there was no one cleaning the rooms during the stay. Check in and Check out time is FIRM. There is no extending your check out time. We liked the area just not this hotel. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone. It's so impersonal. read more

TLDR; this hotel feels scammy I would recommend using a different place in Lower east side. There are plenty of nice hotels around. This place had the wrong email address on file and failed to send me covid related paperwork. When I called asking for this information, they sent it to me, and I was unable to complete what I need on time to make the trip (I wish they were better, but ok partially my fault as well). The person at the front desk was also continuously misspelling and mispronouncing my surname even after I tried to constantly correct it (this is important because spelling it correctly was required to receive said paperwork. I asked them if I could change the date and they said they need 24 hours... ok this seems like a terrible covid policy but it is what it is. They said to leave an email address to their manager but I'm almost 100% positive it went to the person I was peaking with on the phone, because the email address was to "frontdesk@ridgehotel" and I immediately received a rejection from my request. I afterwards asked if I could just have the future nights refunded since this is more than 24 hours in advance for those nights, and at this point they mentioned that due to a 3rd party booking the reservation was completely non-refundable... again I am literally just asking for a credit to use at the same hotel. I don't want to put 100% of this on the hotel, but they clearly were mis spelling my name or not having the proper email on file (I provided a properly spelled email when I booked) and seem all too happy to keep my money and not work with me, while others are working hard to be accommodating during covid. I lost my vacation time off and my cash because of this so I am pretty disappointed. read more

I am giving The Ridge a four stars. We booked the reservation through Air BnB and they were very helpful and answered all our questions we had. Upon arrival, the lady at the front desk helped us with any questions we had and checking in. Our room was nicely clean and comfortable for our night stay in the city. The 7th floor had a balcony that over looked the city and their bottom level of the hotel was a business center with snacks and drinks--very convenient. The morning of check in we woke up at 11am to start getting ready to check out, we received a call from the front desk and they asked if we knew what time check in was. I mentioned that we assume it was 12pm since that's what we were going off the app and nobody told us differently. I assured her we would be done packing up and down in the lobby in a half hour. She continued to mention how if we didn't check out by 12pm she would add a late charge to our bill. We also heard her walkie the house keepers and mention to them that we are still not checked out and they are aware of the late fee if we don't come down to check out before noon. We hurried and packed and made it down stairs to check out by 11:38am. Overall, the stay was not bad just wish management or the front desk would have been more understanding about the confusion from the app we used and their hotel check out time. read more

I was promised a two bed room was available over the phone. It was very late (3am) so the hotel employee knew I was desperate and he took advantage of my situation. Once I entered the room it was a one bed room which was not going to work for my group. I called the front desk and was told that all double bed rooms were now taken. In the span of 20 min from the time I first inquired about a two bed availability they sold out. His response was "come downstairs I'll cancel it". Buddy it's now 4 am, clearly I need a place for the night bad. People like this are disgusting to take advantage of others who are in need of help. read more

I hesitate to review this hotel as I want to keep the secret to myself. I don't think I'll be staying at any other hotel when I visit New York again. It's a perfect location with two subway lines just out the door and in walking distance to all the LES has to offer. Are the rooms small? Yes, but you're in New York and honestly I've stayed in far smaller both in and out of NYC. Honestly, the bathroom was huge, probably took up a 1/3 of the room. The room was very modern with luxury toiletries and we had a sliver of a view of the Empire State building. The front desk staff was always friendly and allowed us an early check-in when we arrived. There's also a rooftop patio where you can enjoy great views and bring back food or drink to enjoy. AND its affordable, especially for NYC... If you're going to New York and plan to stay in the hotel room the entire time then maybe you want to find somewhere with larger rooms (good luck?) but I find this hotel to be perfect in every way. Awesome. The only reason I'm giving this hotel a 4 out of 5 stars is because of the size of the room. Everything else about our stay was excellent. First off, the location is great. It's a block away from the famous Katz Deli and only a few blocks away from Ippudo (only the best ramen I've ever had in my life). SoHo is just a walk away as well, and the subway station was just down the street. I loved being able to walk everywhere and having the subway so close as well. And it's not CRAZY like the area in Times Square. After staying in the Lower East Side, I think I only want to stay here now when visiting NYC. Second of all, the staff was great. We were already stressed out from the fact that our airline had delayed our luggage and we had no toiletries with us for the night. They provided everything we needed and were super friendly. Thirdly, the view from the rooftop terrace is AWESOME. From the rooftop, you can see the entire city, and at night, when the summer breeze hits and you can see all of the city lights, it's amazing. My husband and I brought dinner back to the hotel so that we could enjoy the view. The hotel also offers free wireless and has 2 or 3 computers in their downstairs cellar for use (free of charge). They also provide complimentary bottles of Fiji water at the hotel (my favorite)! Aside from the fact that the rooms were tiny (but what else can you expect from a boutique hotel), I loved staying here. I would definitely come back. read more

The rooms are incredibly small, and suit an individual looking at a weekend stay or a short work trip. When I say small, I mean climb over the bed to get to the other side small, but suitable for someone not spending a lot of time in the room. One thing to note is that is no gym or breakfast, so should you want either you will need to leave the hotel and go down the street. I arrived late at night and found some different colored hair in my bed, which I was disappointed with as I had partially unpacked. Having told reception, I was pleased they immediately had me change rooms (so happy as I was knacked and would have fallen asleep on the floor if I had to wait for a bed change). My new room though had quite a lot of hair (let's just call it "top and bottom hair") in the bathtub, but I was too tired to really care. The hotel staff are lovely, and the hotel itself is fine, I just think the cleaning staff are not doing a thorough job as simple things such as my bathroom being scrubbed was never done. Which is honestly what I care most about over size and comfort of a bed. I have another booking for this hotel coming up, so look forward to updating this post with a more positive experience, as again the reception staff are lovely and I don't want this to get them down. read more

Hotels usually skeeve me out because of all the germs lurking around but HEH isn't too shabby. I was able to stay here overnight compliments of fs and a.young. They offer complimentary breakfast downstairs which includes bagels, fruits, coffee, juice and pastries. The elevators run EXTREMELY slow but their rooftop makes up for it. It overlooks the city and you're more than obliged to take a smoke break or enjoy a beverage. They don't have an in house kitchen or bar but you can order room service as they serve food/liquor from neighboring vendors. We stayed in the Orchard Elite and the room was pretty tight, the best asset was the bed and linens, the worst was the bathroom. For some odd reason, the architect thought it would be a great idea to have the bathroom wall that's adjacent to the room made out of smokey glass. In conclusion, you could pretty much see everything going on in the bathroom minus the person's face. Needless to say, we both had to either wait until the other person left the room or use the bathroom in the lobby. I wouldn't stay here again unless it was comped but overall it's an average hotel in the city. read more

I don't make a habit of reviewing non-food establishments - however when I was looking at the reviews here before I reserved my room I ended up a little concerned... so I figured I'd help my fellow yelpers out by saying this place was great. Clean hotel. I was actually impressed because you could see staff around keeping up with the the common areas... something I've never seen a hotel do before (normally as a guest you just see the cleaning crew changing up rooms.) The reviewers complaining about room sizes need to get out more. Compared to a Club Quarters my room was a palace - especially at the price we got on the room. Bed was a bit cheap - almost military cot-ish - but cozy enough especially for the price. Location was the greatest thing about this hotel.We found four great places to eat within a one block radius. Only down side was the kind of strange massive window (re: glass wall) in the bathroom. It was textured to make it "hard to see" but if you're at the foot of the bed you get a pretty clear idea what the person on the toilet is up to. I guess that would cool if you're in a room by yourself - but if you're sharing the room you'll spend a lot of time saying "LOOK AWAY." This isn't the 'W' - but for the price and location - I'm going with five stars. This will be my preferred "crash pad" in Manhattan from now on. read more

I loved my stay at Hotel East Houston. It's in a great location, right on the border of the Lower East Side and Soho. Also it's so close to the subway for easy access to Brooklyn. Yes, the rooms are small...but who cares? If you are spending all your time in the hotel room when visiting NYC...there's a problem there. ;p The key is to ask for a corner room and you not only get a bit more space, you get an awesome view. I highly recommend this hotel. read more
