I went to Marcia because I wanted a dress made for my daughter's wedding. I brought the brushed silk material I had purchased. I thought we were going in the right direction. And then things fell apart. I had pictures of a dress I had once had, we discussed the design at length. After the third fitting I had had enough. I was going to leave and go have the final alterations somewhere else. When I told Marcia that she began taking all the pins out and throwing them on the floor. By the way, she never had enough pins to begin with. So, I left my dress in her hands once again. I live in Sherman Oaks and she is in Inglewood. A long long drive. So I pick up my dress for my daughter's wedding. She had her own ideas and opinions that she did on my dress. I looked like a beached whale. Marcia became quite animated and rude the day before I had to drive to Inglewood for the 5th time. The next day when I picked up my horrible final dress to the tune of hundreds of $$$ she admitted that she gets 'high' all the time.......... what ever . After spending so much money and bringing the material........... it was a disaster. I am now having the dress altered for the second time somewhere else to see if I can salvage something to wear. I bought my wedding dress on a preowned site, and was pretty sure I'd have to take it in, shorten the straps, and shorten all gazillion layers of the skirt, including one small area where the tulle was torn a bit. AND...I needed it done in less than a month, which is a rush job for a wedding dress. Because everything surrounding a wedding is twice as expensive and twice as fraught and takes twice as long.... Turns out, Marcia is the antidote to wedding double-everything fever. She responded quickly and kindly to my yelp message plea, and said it was enough time, and not to worry. THEN, when I brought her the dress, she said: you know, it doesn't even need to be hemmed, and hemming it would cost a lot more (because of the gazillion layers) -- but she could just hem the single layer that had a tear in it, and i'd never know it was torn. She hemmed that layer, shortened the straps, added bra cups, and fixed the waist. In TWO WEEKS, I was back to try it on, and it was ready and fit perfectly. And the price for alterations was SO much less (literally hundreds of dollars less) than the price I was quoted by some other places as a "starting price," without even seeing what needed to be done. It's too bad I didn't know about Marcia from the get-go, because I saw some of the dresses she was making from scratch, and they were beautiful. She knows her stuff!! Marcia is magic. I needed alterations on my wedding dress. The fancy Hollywood boutique where I bought it wanted to charge me so much even the shop girl recommended I go elsewhere. Marcia is very affordable, fast and detailed. She actually called me soon after the first fitting to let me know she had finished the work we discussed ahead of schedule. I was able to come in early and get my dress much sooner than most places. I threw a curve ball at Marcia with an unusual bustle. We problem solved together and she made it work. I casually mentioned the waist was a bit itchy and she added a soft ribbon the cover the itchy seam. I originally tried on my wedding dress in a LG size at the store with all the clips they put on the back and loved it! I ended up ordering it through the phone a few days later with the measurements they had taken of me. They told me I needed a smaller size then what I normally order, I was flattered, so I went with it! Upon arrival, it took me a while to try it on but when I finally did, it and it was SO tight! It made me uncomfortable, it marked all my trouble/ insecurity zones. It was too late to exchange or return it.... I was so sad...But I found Márcia! She tailored it to the T! The quote the store gave for alterations was astronomical and I had already spent so much money on the dress that I was desperate to find someone I could trust that I could afford. I unfortunately purchased a wedding dress at a boutique that resulted to be an absolute mess, see pictures. Last year, with my wedding approaching, I was looking for an EXCEPTIONAL seamstress to help me turn a ball gown I had found into my wedding gown... and I SURE FOUND WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR!!:) Actually, Marcia is a better seamstress/designer than I could have ever hoped to find. (Why on EARTH she is not the next Edith Head, I will never know!) I explained what I wanted, and she sketched it out TO PERFECTION. I hired her immediately to create the removable train, as well as the special veil that I wanted from scratch. She also took in my gown, at the waist, added tulle to the skirt, added a stiff thingy to the back of the satin sash I had found so it wouldn't wrinkle, and added a reinforcing piece at the waist to make it easier to zip up. And it was ALL done TO PERFECTION!! EXACTLY what I had envisioned!!:) Our wedding was incredible... and no one could believe how gorgeous my outfit was. I've had dresses made by several seamstresses in the past and while I thought at the time that they were good, I've realized after having worked with Marcia what having a great dressmaker is like. Not only is she great at what she does (she actually made a whole trial version of the dress I've ordered to fit me in before cutting the real fabric I had given her for the dress), but she's incredibly sweet to work with, has very reasonable prices, and has a great eye for what'll patterns and styles will look good on her customers.
