The first time I went there I saw customers patiently standing in a line that stretched from one end of the business to the other, some were sitting at the picnic tables on the side, and others were waiting in their cars. What an incredibly delicious find -- this is the epitome of a neighborhood BBQ spot! I got the Fat Box and added a side to make sure I'd be nice and full. The $8 Fat Box comes with 2 big pork ribs, 2 fried chicken wings, a choice of one side (collards for me) and corn bread. I added the mac n cheese as a 2nd side for $3. I was thoroughly satisfied with my meal, for $11-12 I was absolutely stuffed. The spot was pretty crowded so there was a bit of a line and we then waited about 10 minutes to receive our food -- but let me say, the wait is worth it! The only con is that they are only open on the weekends and you will probably have to wait for at least 30mins-1hr because they cook everything fresh just for you which is completely understandable. My favorite BBQ place right now!!!! I remember when they had the grill and truck around Forestville. Ever since they opened up the building, I've been hitting the them up every other Saturday. I just wanted some down south no frills soulfood and by Golly Gosh I've found it! This food is so good I could dig up my grandmother out of her grave and bring her here and she would agree! It would freak people out so I won't do that, but you get my point. Now if I were you, I'd order online or go before the holy folks get out of church and come suck up all of the ribs. You will wait, but I song see a problem with that, for fresh food. They have a small area where you can sit and wait or either eat your food, next door to it, which is convenient. They food is priced REALLY well. The only thing I didn't like was the strawberry lemonade. If you like sweet drinks then that is the drink for you! I'm not a sweet drink type of person so my blood sugar was like oh heck naw girl!! Man I tried to put water in it, I tried to put vodka in it, heck I set it on fire to burn some of the sugar off and it turned into a dang cheese cake! Lol... But other than that! First of all if anyone says these are the best ribs they had...they are probably inexperienced with good BBQ. Considering the unorganized atmosphere of this establishment my expectations were low. I ordered a lot of things because I got the "I ain't coming back vibe" as soon as I stepped inside. The inside is small for customers, it was about close to closing time, so it was about 10 people in line. I had to wait outside for about 5 minutes for the line to move. No big deal because it was like the universoul circus outside and it was a bevy of entertainment. I stood inside for about 10 minutes. The ordering process needs to be tightened up. Only one register was open but with that amount of people all registers should have been. It took me about 10 more minutes to get my food, so that was decent. Warning there is a PA system for your order number to be called and the person on the speaker clearly didn't graduate with a bachelors in customer service so it teetered in between comedy and being rude and it was all the way annoying. What did I order. Got the fat box, rib tips, and chicken, some sides and sweet tea. Let's go for the good The tea Baked beans - very excellent had a mixture of beans and was spicy and sweet Mac and cheese Now the ok BBQ Chicken - needed some kosher salt and maybe some garlic other than that I'd go back for this Now the needs improvement Rib tips- these were damn near unseasoned, the texture was fine, but being honest they were chopped up ribs, not sure if this happened because it was late and they were out but my guess is they don't know what rib tips are. Collard greens - bland and unseasoned Cornbread muffin - it has potential but it was just semi- burned and hard Fried wings - it was cooked fine, but not well seasoned Now the yuck The BBQ sauce - it was just bad...get that on the side if you must. I was in the mood for some ribs and didn't feel like cooking them myself so I decided to try the rolling rib out... I'm happy I did!!! I've been going to Henry's for a large portion of my life and have loved the food at the U St. location. I think they do soul food just right. Not trying to reinvent the wheel and get all fancy in my opinion. I got the rib dinner with yams, Mac and cheese and an extra side of potato salad. I know... no veggies but it was one of those kinda days. My girl got the greens so I stole some of hers and they were great as I would expect. The ribs: they were great. They tasted like they were fresh off the grill and not cooked them wrapped is plastic and all soggy. The sides: Mac and cheese, greens, yams and potatoes salad. Like I said, all were great to me. Overall I'd say this place is great. I'm so happy. A lot of bbq places are popping up now but not a lot of them do bbq well. My only cons: they don't do call ahead orders so you have to go wait in line to order, for your food to be ready and then to pick it up. The food is good so there were a lot of people waiting. I went around 1:30pm thinking most people would be at work... I was wrong. I couldn't imagine going after 5. The bbq sauce experience: so I ordered my sauce on the side. I like to actually taste my food, I didn't know how the sauce would taste and I don't like messy ribs. Usually they put so much sauce on your ribs that they're swimming in sauce but then when you ask for it on the side, they give you this little cup. So I asked for extra sauce and the girl charged me 40 cents per sauce. Petty but cool. So she brings back two different sizes of sauce and I'm like if I'm paying for it, give me both of the bigger sizes. Then she comes back with one bigger and two small. Petty. If you're looking for hospitality and customer service here, go somewhere else (you've been warned). For this to be one of very few minority owned restaurants in Upper Marlboro, MD, it's definitely disappointing to experience what they offer in terms of customer service, attentiveness to order detail, and expediency. First issue, let folks know that if you order online, you're wasting your time. The online ordering through the TOAST portal only makes them prepare your order whenever they get around to it. Upon pickup of my order, I sat and watched 25 orders who ordered after me, be prepared and picked up prior to them bagging up my 4 ribs with two small sides of greens and okra. People walked in, ordered, and walked out with whole grocery bags of food that were ordered and prepared 30-45 mins after I ordered online 45 minutes prior! When I inquired about my order, I, as anyone else who approached the cashier in the "FATBOX" side of Rolling Rib 2, was rudely admonished for asking about our orders. So much so, that one female customer took exception to the "not so young" cashier's rudeness and snatched her bag upon leaving. Which, in turn, started a shatshow of both ladies yelling and cursing one another out about how rude the cashier was and how if there was a problem, the customer could "meet her on the block!" This went on for 5-10 mins while we, the other customers continued to wait for our orders. With not one older employee/owner/manager admonishing the "out-of-control" cashier and quelling the situation. Instead, an older gentleman came from the back to fist-bumped the rude cashier as if to show support for the non-sense. Which in-turn allowed the rude cashier to go about unprofessionally speaking to remaining customers as if they were bothering her for having to do her job today. To be honest, this will sadly be the last time I patronize this place and will be sure to deter anyone I know in this area, because I'm a resident of Upper Marlboro, to go there as well. Rolling Rib 2/Fatbox, you jokers are only open 3-days a week for like 5 hours a day, figure out how to run a business that relies on "customer service". Trim the fat and get rid of the unprofessional "help" (sorry, that's what the rude cashier amounts to). And establish a more efficient method of providing what you offer to the customers. Trust if another BBQ spot opens near by, Rolling Rib 2 will be shuttered. For many, it'll be good riddance! BTW, y'all forgot the sauce for my ribs...smh! read more

Disappointed on multiple fronts. My first option, Beef Brisket, was not available. Secondly, we ordered Chopped BBQ on a roll. The menu specifically stated "w/ Cole Slaw", which we reiterated. Of course the sandwiches came without it. When we inquired we were told that the Cole Slaw was "complimentary" and they were out. That's fine if you inform me of that when I order so that my expectations, and my balance can be adjusted but don't let me expect what the menu says only to be disappointed! Granted the food is very tasty, and I'm sure that's why people show up but quality in service should be from the front door to the back and in this day and time I expect more. We all should! I was looking for a spot close to where I was staying. I found this gem via google maps. I must say, google maps is my go-to for local restaurants in the area. So I drive up. Initially it looked like a biker bar. To my surprise it's a take-out spot. There is seating on one side. Very clean and great customer service. The sauce on the ribs were delicious. I order a fat box. It includes two ribs, two wings and one side. I got the macaroni n' cheese with my fat box. It was well seasoned. I ordered an additional side of greens that are smoked, delicious. Wasn't a fan of the amount of stalks in it. I also ordered the yams which were a bit hard for me. They could have been cooked longer. I would definitely try this resturant again. read more

Maaaaaan O Maaaaan! One of Upper Marlboro's Best Kept Secrets! I can't believe I just found out about the BBQ spot today! It was definitely worth every penny! I went here with my parents after church. I got the "Fat Box", which includes 2 pork ribs, 2 chicken wings, 1 side and cornbread. I am stuuuuffed! My parent both got the 2 meat meal. You can choose any two meats, 2 sides and cornbread. Oh, you thought Wendy's strawberry lemonade hits the spot? There was a long line so I thought this carryout would be great. First, the wait is crazy...45 to more than 60 minutes. If you decide to try this place, check the inside of each container to ensure you get everything. My fried okra was missing even though it looked like I had all containers. The mini cornbread muffin, and I mean mini, was in a large container by itself which I mistaken for the okra container. The collards looked good, but were sweet. Not sure why sugar was added to collards...this was a disappointment. The rib tips was good to ok. I was really looking forward to the fried okra, so it was disappointing that I paid for this, waited over an hour, and the order was not complete. During one of my rare trips to Maryland I stumbled across The Rolling Rib with the help of Yelp. Huge parking lot to serve the two business in this one building. Place is a small hole in the wall, there is a small counter that you could use to eat at but I couldn't imagine anyone wanting to do that unless they were dying of starvation. Take out is definitely the way to go. Staff is a lively bunch but very friendly, you'd have to see them operate to know what I mean about them being lively but they're all quite interesting. Food was okay, I had the beef brisket and fries. The serving size was huge, I was still nibbling on it days later. For the most part brisket was good, there were parts that were a bit too fatty but I mainly received quality meat. I had the mixed sauce, nice taste with a little bit of a kick. If you don't like heat, go with the mild but if you can tolerate it barely like me, the mix should be appropriate. Fries were nice as well, I believe they call them soul fries and use a bit of Old Bay as a seasoning. Also tried the half and half mixed ice tea and lemonade, basically liquid diabetes, ridiculously sweet like any southern BBQ should make it. While I wouldn't make a special trip to sample The Rolling Rib, if you're in the area, it is worth a stop. read more

This place is ducked off on a corner in what seems to be an old warehouse, maybe. Little hole-in-the-walls are my favorites anyway. I was here for it. It's not mom's food, but it's not a horrible compromise. If I could give them some advice, I would say lighten up on the fish batter and don't fry it so hard. I would also say maybe they had those grills a little too hot. The rib tips had a good texture on the inside, but the outsides were blacker than asphalt. Not cool. The flavor was good, though. The fried okra... I won't try that again. Too. Much. Batter. The greens were a little hard. Maybe they needed to slap a teeny bit of baking soda in that pot to tenderize those things.
