Went today and got take-out for a coworker and I. We placed the order and got sidetracked- I got there 20 minutes after the food was ready, but it was still piping hot! I got ziti; I didn't love the sauce but it was ok (red tomato sauce). The salad was delicious but wish it had croutons. Of course I got italian dressing and it had the perfect blend of spices. Overall, very good! Order was correct and done in a timely manner, and kept warm until we got there. Can't ask for much more than that! lol read more

My husband and I had simple meals of fettuccine Alfredo and homemade spaghetti with meatballs. He is a big eater and couldn't finish his own meal without having felt stuffed to the gills. Our server was very friendly and was helpful in choosing our meals. The meatballs had a little bit of spice to them, but had a great taste. We were there on a Thursday a little before 6 pm and the restaurant was filling up as we ate. They have a separate entrance/counter for takeout and they do great on their pizzas! So my fiance' and I drove from downtown Boston to attend a wake Oteri Funeral Home. I have always heard of the ROME so I suggested we try it out. We sat on the bar side at a high top table. Our sever was GREAT ! We were enjoying our soup when all of a sudden I heard the female bartender say ' what the F*%# ' to a customer in a their conversation! I was shocked. I am by all means not a prude however I have been I bar rooms and the bartenders don't ever talk like that. My only disappointed was with the red sauce on my lasagna blan. read more

A Franklin staple. This Italian gem in quaint downtown Franklin is just what you have been looking for. The food is delicious and the staff make you feel like family. Donna was our server and she was awesome. Super accommodating and she totally works her butt off. The Italian dressing (Ken's) is to die for. For some reason it just tastes so much better at The Rome. There is a parking lot in the back and they are very accommodating with functions. We were there for a bereavement lunch and it couldn't have been more pleasant. They also have great pizza for take out! read more

As a new resident to Franklin, MA. My girlfriend and I are always looking for new places to try within the area. We had drove by The Rome many times while traveling through town, but never had the chance to actually check it out until the other night. I can happily say that we both were very satisfied and impressed with our experience. I got the Chicken Carbonara with homemade pasta and my girlfriend got the buffalo chicken pizza. We were both very satisfied with the portion size and had plenty leftover to snack on the next day. The food had a lot of flavor and tasted very fresh. Drinks were also great and prices are very reasonable for the portion size. I would definitely recommend The Rome for anyone looking for a good meal in the Franklin area. Surprised I haven't reviewed The Rome yet - we always enjoy it. My son could live off the penne and sauce. Basic but that's how he rolls. Oh speaking of rolls, he also enjoys a loaf of the bread to wash down the pasta. :) I have a few favorites myself - the homemade spaghetti is so so good. I like to get it with the vodka sauce and grilled chicken. My other favorite is the fettucine alfredo with chicken - I like to get that and also a roasted hot pepper appetizer. Combine the two of them and it's the best dish they serve, except it's not on the menu. :) We also get the Eggplant parm and chicken parm quite often. The homemade sausage is delicious as well. And when I'm being "healthy" I go with a salad or the antipasto along with the buffalo tenders which are not your classic buffalo sauce but they are amazing. We mostly do take out but sometimes dine in. Love that they have Moretti and not Peroni and the small frosted glass is always a nice old school touch. read more

Well fast forward to present day: We wanted to try something different, and I suggested The Rome. Boy were we disappointed. The pizza was thin and tasted like cardboard. We will never go to the Rome again. I got the chicken parm, and although the chicken was OK at best, the sauce was watery and the pasta overcooked. My wife got the eggplant parm and was flat out disgusted. It was thin, heavily fried, and tasted like nothing but breadcrumbs. She barely ate any of it. The decor itself is also dated. Old carpets, dusty decor, and the place smelled like an old building or like my grandparent's house. Not exactly appetizing. We're never going back and I can't in good conscience recommend anyone eat here when there are so many vastly superior Italian restaurants all over the place. read more

I always look forward to dining in here. As a college student it is the closest meal I get to a home cooked meal. The portions are perfect and the food is amazing. I will never dine at this restaurant again. I have been here twice since moving to franklin, and both times I have gotten horrible food poisoning. The reason I attempted to give The Rome a second chance, after such a bad experience, was because so many people had given them such good reviews. So thinking it was a fluke I tried them again with the same horrible results. I spent all night throwing up both times. Not fun. If that wasn't bad enough, the food is not good quality in general and the service is horrid. The first time we almost left (I wish we had!) because it took an hour for our food to arrive. The bread they give you is literally just sliced white bread, and it is always cold. On top of all that it is pretty expensive to eat here. -10/10, I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

I honestly have never known why people think the Rome is so good. I come from an Italian family and it's a night and day difference. I went here one night with my boyfriend and it was so cold inside that I couldn't wait to get out to our car and warm up! I don't think there was any heat on at all. Not only were the chicken parm and cheese ravioli absolutely incredible (the marinara sauce is some of the best out there), but our waitress went above and beyond. It was as yummy as it was when I first had it over two years ago, and remarkably still cost under $9...
